Official PixelJunk Thread - 4/20: PixelJunk 4AM out May 15, Beta for PS+ Begins May 1

yeah, superb maps. hella lotta work put into them.

on a side note I finally got to garden 10 and got one spectra on it... I don't think I'm going to play it for a while... the game is damn hard, I'll be honest about that, and I suck at it.

I actually need to go finish PJ Monsters since I got it a week before this came out...

garden 8 and 10 are my bane. too of the stupidly big maps = wat a ginormous timesink, takes me an hour to get through garden 8 now

Managed to full clear garden nine, so now I just need to get the last two Spectra in garden ten to be done. Then I need to go for all of the seeds in garden seven and eight since I focused more on getting the spectra than the seeds.

In garden 9, there's one spectra alll the way on the left that is tucked just under a platform. What's the right way to get it? I try to jump as vertically as possible off the right side and catch on to the wall, but it's really hard this way. I spent about an hour losing in garden 9 yesterday so I don't really want to try it again until I have some chance of success. The one all the way at the top is a pain in the dick too thanks to the laser enemy.

There's hope for you yet Rolento.

GREAT NEWS!

As for Eden, well… that’s way too easy a game to make it any easier, surely???!
At least in co-op you can reach out and catch your betrothed if she falls, the veritable juliet to your romeo so to speak.

However, we do have lots of ideas for the expansion pack as the controls are too much fun to waste on just one set of game rules. I’m sure we will try and add a more namby pamby mode for the “lighter” people out there.

When you activate the seed that gets you to the first lifts, collect enough pollen so that out-the-way seed is filled and make your way to the left filling seeds until you see the second set of lifts that can get you to the top of that rock formation and just jump over to where that seed is. Grip to the bottom of the straight plant and use your tether to drop down and get that last seed. It's a much easier way to do it than just trying to jump from under that rock formation.

Looks like there will be a patch coming for Monsters that will include trophies and difficulty levels, as well, which is good to hear because some of these levels are just too hard for me to beat. :whistle2:(
Yeah, I accidentally started playing it with Encore and the first level kicked my ass. Then I went to the other island. I even had a hard time on some of the early levels though. For someone who sucks at tower defense but enjoys the game this will be great.

great freaking news, although i'm pretty good at monsters so it even helps those out on the other spectrum. harder difficulty. wonder if that'll be allowed for better ranking on the scoreboard.

i pretty much got all the trophies for eden besides fill all the seeds for 8 9 and 10...and i'm just taking my sweet time cuz i love this game

Great news for Monsters pretty glad I picked it up with Pain. Eden sucks up so much of my time I want to get Uncharted but I feel I probably won't touch it for awhile since I play Eden 90% of the time I turn on my PS3.

I wouldn't say Monsters is hard. It's just challenging for each set of levels until you unlock the special ability for that section. Encore is just hard as fuck.

Monsters is too hard for me... I can't wait till they come out with the easy settings.

I was referring mainly to encore, I only have 3 levels or so I haven't beat in monsters, but I can't get past the easy levels in encore.

I just played Garden 7 for the first time and WOW. I thought it was cool when they started adding the things that shoot you, the portals and the moving walls, but garden 7 is just a whole new level of awesome. I've managed to get 4 of the 5 spectra so far, then I decided to try gardens 8 and 9 and my instincts were totally thrown off by normal gravity, it's crazy.

As a side note, what's with all the reviewers claiming that the time is a bad thing, it's like they want to game to be flow/flower. I like the challenge, and there are enough time pickups everywhere that the few times I have failed are not from the clock, but my failures.

the only reason i hate garden 7 is after you finish it, when you fall straight vertically, it feels weird in the other gardens

I think I got to a point where I'm plateauing on this game. I've put it down for a few days, and I think I'm going to give it a rest for a while. It just got too difficult for me, and I haven't even opened up level 8! I am the worst!

Now that someone's posted the map for Garden 9 I think we're talking about different spectra. I'm talking about the one in the lower left. Still not sure how to get it :whistle2:k

Oh, thought you were talking about one of the seeds that are hard to reach. Just fill the seeds to the right of those lifts you use at the beginning of the level. It's one of the easiest to reach.

Is one of them a cannon flower?
Is one of them a cannon flower?
Oops, meant to the left. The one by the tulip cannon has a seed above it that sprouts a sunflower that you hang from and you'll be able to reach under that rock for the spectra.

holy damn, finally finished off the last of the challenges that I was missing, garden 10 all seeds. there were times that i almost lost but managed to find little time crystals to just keep myself alive. i didn't even waste any tiem on the 5th spectra, i hit it on my first try, strangely enough.

doneeeeeeeeee.

that godforsaken elevator on the leftside on garden 10 goes nowhere!

and btw kickass job oatmeal, i had to use garden 07 and 08 o find all the seeds

Wow PJM is hard. I finally went back to the game and I am liking it but the game requires a lot of trial and error. I just played a level with 20 waves of enemies and I was just building not knowing what to expect.

It does if you activate the seeds that are above there first, which requires you to build up a bit first and then work your way to the left.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/10/22/pixelpatch-pj-monsters-updates-incoming/

Hi PixelJunkies! I’m Matt Morton, Associate Producer at SCEA Santa Monica Studio and I’ve had the great fortune of working on the PixelJunk series since the very first title, PixelJunk Racers. We’ve been working hard to keep spreading the PixelJunk Love (as Deb Mars calls it) and wanted to give you a heads up on the upcoming patch for PixelJunk Monsters and PixelJunk Monsters: Encore.

The patch will be releasing VERY soon, with Japan getting the first patch release on October 23. If all goes well with final testing, you will see the patch in SCEA and SCEE territories on October 30. If there are any delays to the above mentioned dates, we will be sure to update the blog to let you know about it, so stay tuned!

The Q-Games team has been hard at work on the PixelJunk Monsters patch and has packed a TON of great features into this great game. I’ll give you a quick breakdown of some of the new features you will expect to see:

Game Difficulty settings
You can now choose between three different difficulties of gameplay! There is a Casual mode, the Regular/Ranked mode, and Hard-core mode. The great news here is that you can use any combination of difficulties to complete your progress through the islands! Is there one particular map that’s too hard? Try it in Casual mode. If you Rainbow the level, that rainbow counts and will remain on the map no matter what difficulty the other rainbows were achieved at! Only the Regular difficulty will register on the ranking boards, though.

Tower Menu selection
You can now set the default menu to appear when selecting a tower! How many times have you sold off a tower and run over to another tower to quickly upgrade it and accidentally sell it by mistake? I know I’ve done that many, many times. Now you can choose which option appears as the default, instead of the last action you selected.

Tower Balancing
Those of you who have purchased Encore know about the reduced cost on the Ice Tower, and balanced functionality of the Tesla tower. This patch applies those changes to BOTH islands, not just the Encore island.

Video Recording / YouTube Support
Ever since Q-Games included this feature into PixelJunk Eden, we knew it needed to be in Monsters as well. You will be able to record up to 10 minutes of gameplay and upload it directly to your YouTube account, or send it to your video folder on your PS3’s XMB.

XMB Custom Soundtrack Support
You can now make your own custom soundtrack to listen to as you play PixelJunk Monsters and Encore! I’ve personally been enjoying listening to the PixelJunk Eden soundtrack while I play Monsters, as well as listening to the PixelJunk Monsters soundtrack within Eden! It’s great how well those fantastic soundtracks work in other games.

With these features being added, and several other small bugs being fixed in the game, we think you’ll have a great time playing PixelJunk Monsters and Encore all over again.

I think that’s about it … But it feels like I’m missing something … Hmm … I can’t quite put my finger on what I might be forgetting. Wait a minute … I remember now …

TROPHIES
Trophies are now added for both PixelJunk Monsters and Encore. We weren’t able to retroactively apply Trophies to the previously played data, but Q-Games didn’t want to force people to play everything all over again. They came up with a great idea by creating Trophy Challenges. These challenges have specific maps with set rules or objectives that will reward you with Trophies if you complete them properly.

Recently, Jeff Rubenstein got to visit Q-Games in Kyoto (the lucky so-and-so) and shot an interview with Dylan to talk more about the patch for PixelJunk Monsters. Check it out …
Check out the link for a video of Dylan explaining the new difficulties and the trophy mode. Can't wait for this to come out, though why does it have to be during this big holiday rush of game releases? :whistle2:(

Wow, it's great to see such support for a downloadable game, that patch sounds awesome!

I'd be happy if it only included the menu fix he mentioned (with default selections). That's happened to me so many freaking times.

:whee:
Can anyone actually beat all of the expansion levels on the normal difficulty? Having another even hard one is crazy.

Exactly. It's bad enough that they choose to release so much goodness in just a 3 month span, and now they revive older games to further increase the backlog! My only hope is self-control. The CAG part of me has to keep telling the gamer part to not spend $50 on new releases, when there will no doubt be great deals before half a year has passed.

I fear the Hard-core mode. :cold: Diablo III will probably have more rainbows than that one.

Me and my wife did. Now getting rainbows on all of them, that's another story:bomb: .

Just got the patch and did the first challenge (no leveling towers) after 3 or 4 tries. I really like how they added trophies through new different challenges to give a new type of replayability. Now if only they would announce the next pixeljunk game - supposedly there was talk of a dungeon crawler

I had previously beat all the levels with rainbows via 2 player so this new reason to play is great. So I DL the update just now and dam if the new levels seem to only be single player. I have never played even one game of this in single player the joy of it is 2 player. So I go ahead and beat the first one and get a perfect score and get to the next screen after the one saying my score and it get a internet error 00000000 saying my score was not uploaded and I cant get the trophy. WTF!!!!!

/cry

Why no 2player????
