Official Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver thread of 10 year nostalgia rush
Man I gotta get this, but no time! aaaagh. Went to visit my buddy in his lab, and he had his pokewalker... sitting on the minishaker in the lab. lazy fuck
That is possibly one of the laziest, but smartest things I have ever heard of.

The goldenrod game center is so annoying... Why is it not slot machines? What kind of remake is this? It better be slot machines in the other city or I might break my DS in frustration.

Seriously, voltorb card game? It is so annoying, so slow, and so random. It's just bad. Yet I'll probably have to play it for the special stuff you can get.
Can anyone spare 3 ganlon berries? I really want to evolve Feebas. lol I can trade these: Magby, Dratini. Gible, Bagon
I'm working on growing Micle berries right now in Pearl. I'd trade you one for the Magby.

PM me if interested.
Seriously, voltorb card game? It is so annoying, so slow, and so random. It's just bad. Yet I'll probably have to play it for the special stuff you can get.
It's not too bad. There are many blocks you can just ignore, as it's obvious they won't net you a 2 or 3. Any row that has 1/4 or 4/1 or 2/3 or 3/2, you can just fill in with the markers.

I scored a Dratini there after a few days of playing. I'll probably go after some of the other prizes too. It's not a bad diversion.

"Outside of Japan, the Game Corner got completely replaced. All slot machines were removed but replaced with a special game, the Voltorb Flip."

I think they removed it since they didn't want to promote gambling. Unless I don't understand it correctly, some of the grids are impossible to solve without guessing the correct panel to flip over. I solved the first few levels fine, but quit after a while.

If your playing HG/SS then the new way to max out the beauty for Feebas is to take it to Daisy Oak in Pallet Town. http://www.serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/daisyoak.shtml.

I like this new way better as I had to go thur 3 Feebas's b4 i could evolve it.

Yes i hate the new Game Corner, i Think it sucks. I played it and got a few hundred coins but dont thinks its worth it for me.

I agree with you icedrake, Im training my Pupitar and i give him the EXP Share and fight more then his share of battles. My only warning when you fight Claire is have something for her Kingdra as Lapras and Thunderbolt couldnt take her out. Had to use Dragon Pulse. Never tried Ice BEam as I heard it doesnt hurt it.

Time for lots of training before i fight The Elite 4 as they are way to weak and the Victory Road pokemon are in low 30's. Not much help.

Since Kingdra is Water/Dragon, it's only weak to Dragon moves. I traded a Dragon Pulse TM from Diamond to SoulSilver and gave it to Dragonair. It needs a Dragon type move and Dragon Rush only has 75% accuracy.

So I was looking at Seribii, since i was planning on taking on the Elite four as soon as my Tyranitar evolves.

Take a look.http://www.serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/elitefour.shtml
It seems the lv have went down. I can so take them I think. The strongest looks like a Level 50 Dragonite from Lance. Really, somehow i remember them being a lot tougher and going at them 2-3 b4 i won. It seems the rematch teams look way better.

What do y'all think?

Nah, the Elite 4 in the original versions were this bad too. All of the Kanto Gym Leaders had higher levels and Blue or Red should have been Champions with their teams. The biggest problem I had back then was finding higher level pokemon to train against to get a 100 level team (I was a Stadium 2 addict). The saving grace in the new versions is that the levels do go up.

Finally got to the Elite 4 in Platinum....what a pain in the ass.

All my team were either levels 52, 53, or 54. I got through the Elite 4, then I had to face Cynthia and by that point, I had no more potions, and no more revives (I went in with 15 of each...which was not wise), and 4 of my Pokemon were already fainted. I took out one of hers then lost. I also noticed that her Pokemon were in the 60s....

Was I just under-leveled, or have the previous Pokemon games had this kind of level discrepancy in the end-game? I haven't played a Pokemon game since Red just FYI and I got back on board with Platinum, so I have no real frame of reference.
Alright, Eevee. You're going to stay in that Pokéwalker on Rugged Road until you catch me a Magby. Got it?
I'm psyched. I managed to get a Magby a day ago after piling up 5k steps on Rugged Road. It totally made my day.

Since a few CAGs pointed my to serbii.net, I've been planning my walking routes by the 'rare' pokemon at each path. Magby is the only one I've found so far and I needed a fire pokemon.

I don't really know what to do now. Not that I have nothing to do, but what to do next. I'd like to go catch Lugia, but I don't have my guide with me. Considering I'm almost done with the Johto part of the game, I'd like to actually use the guide for getting through Whirl Island (I hate caves and surfing. Even back during the RBY days). I also don't know if I should keep grinding Dragonair (level 43) or grind my other 3 some more.

I also want a Pokemon that resists Rock since I will have 3 that are weak to it (Typhlosion, Gyarados, Lugia). Dragonair resits it but will be neutral once it evolves. Heracross is neutral due to fighting. Unfortunately I can't decide on what Pokemon to pick.

BTW, for those who want Magby, I caught a Magmar in the basement of the Burned Tower. I was grinding there so I spent a lot of time.

I had the same problem with Whirl Islands and then remembered I have the interent.
Check out this video to get to Lugia. The voice is a lil loud but just follow what he does to get to him.

I want a Chikorita, can anyone make breed it into an egg so I can have one?

I don't have much pokemon, but I can send a lvl. 19 Heracross and a couple of others.

I picked this up yesterday. Chose Totodile as my starter and am having a blast. The nostalgia this game makes me feel is incredible. I don't want to put it down. The addition of the Pokewalker is wicked neat too, keeps things fresh.

This is basically my "hey, I'm playing too and I wanna read what you guys are up to too" post. I'll be knocking out the second badge tonight after I grind my team up to ~15 or so.

And if anyone happens to be breeding and has a spare Eevee egg, well, I'd love to try and work out a trade ;)

I have two Eevee eggs. You can have one if you still want it. My friend code is 021730677509.

I feel like this game is a little harder than the other ones. I don't remember losing one fight in Platinum, but I have had to reset multiple times since getting the seventh badge. Claire destroyed me the first time I fought her. I am having a hard time leveling up without massively grinding. What is the best spot for grinding, because everywhere I go the wild Pokemon are only level 20-26.

Oh man, I've hatched three Dratini eggs and all three have been Female, UGGGGH!! That's over 30,000 steps total. My brother's are sending me the eggs so I can have most of my final team before I even go to the second badge, and I swear like half of my playtime has been dedicated to hatching these stupid eggs.

Hey I have the JP version of the game and I want to know how to trade pokemon via wifi to other people . does anyone have the exact steps on how to do this on the JP version ?
I'm psyched. I managed to get a Magby a day ago after piling up 5k steps on Rugged Road. It totally made my day.
After keeping one Pokémon in the Pokéwalker for two days, I finally encountered Onix, which is the one you get on Rugged Road if you don't get Magby. Ugh. Have to start over with a different Pokémon there.

Mewtwo is in the game and a bitch to catch.

I found the Ice Path good since I had Typhlosion and Heracross (fire and fighting moves OHKO most Pokemon). For my Dragonair, I just used it constantly. I used it against every Team Rocket member in the Goldenrod Radio Tower part.

I have a question about the Pokewalker. I'm at the second Gym, about to earn my second badge, but haven't heard anything about the Pokewalker yet. Is it introduced in the game at some point? Or am I just suppossed to figure out what to do with it on my own?

As far as i know, it's not mentioned in the game, it's just something you use on your own.

Though I agree with Mewtwo being hard to get...I have always been more prone to use the masterball with pokemon who like to move areas constantly. Mewtwo is at least stationary. Save beforehand and try, try again.

It really though is your decision. You can always win a masterball through contests in the game (not that it is common, but the more you trade, the more chance you can win one). Think I only won one masterball and two experience shares when I had Diamond.

Not to mention sometimes in the GTS you see people trading pokemon holding a masterball. Can't say if they are legit masterballs, but they are there.

It is on your own. Pokewalker is never mentioned at least not early in the game (still at the 4th gym). You do have to save at least once and you will be able to use it. You need one pokemon to be in the PC. "Someone's PC" which will be "Bill's PC". I have to say that now because last time I said put a pokemon in your PC and people were trying to do that. So more than likely you need at least one extra pokemon and a save file to use it.

You can still use your current pokemon, you just have to bring him back from the stroll and then put it back. This changes the pokemon up. Might still get an Onix as it is random, but it is not affected by what pokemon you use. The only way you can affect it is if you use a certain type you can meet the group A pokemon sooner as it decreases the amount of steps required by 25%. You can see what type is needed in the serebii course area you have been looking at.

I only have 3 gym badges, so I can't speak for the entire game, but they do mention the Pokéwalker at the National Park, if you go there when there isn't a Bug-Catching Contest. The characters there were just chatting about how much they like it; they don't fill you in on how to use it.

What you need to do is get a Magby or Magmar or a pokemon that knows Flame Body so that your steps are cut in half. Its what I used to get my Eevee eggs to hatch for my Flareon and Jolteon.

Raikou and Entei you can get around by using a Golbat/Crobat with Mean Look or Diglett/Dugtrio with Arena Trap. Using a Fast Ball on them also helps.

Even if you miss them, there's a trick to encountering them:
Have a level 40 Pokemon in your party. Go to an area with low level Pokemon. Go to where there's a border between two places (2 routes or a route and town). Walk past the border. Whenever you do, their location changes. When you're in the area they are, use a Repel (that keeps Pokemon lower than your lead Pokemon away) and walk in the grass.

Even if they used an Action Replay to get Master balls, they'd be legit. I used an AR in Ruby and traded some to my FireRed. They all worked.

Nice tip. That would have been nice to know when I hatched my Eevee and Totodile eggs yesterday considering I have a Magmar chilling in my PC with that ability.

Anyone have recommendations for a 6th Pokemon to use in my team? I scrapped my original idea and have Typhlosion, Dragonite, Heracross, and Lugia right now. I'm thinking either Starmie or Vaporeon for my 5th. Don't know what to use for my 6th. Has to be Johto or Kanto though.

If you going to use Starmie, then go with Tyranitar. If you want Vaporeon go with Magneton. Personally, I would use Lapras and Tyranitar. You'll have a felxible and diverse line up that covers a lot of enemy types and each other.

Any tips to raising my eevee's happiness? I am trying to get umbreon but it seems like every level I gain with him his happiness is staying the same.

I have too many Rock weaknesses as it is so I wouldn't use Lapras. I would put Ice Beam on Starmie/Vaporeon (may put it on Lugia, too). I was leaning towards Tyranitar since I never used him in Silver.

Take him to Goldenrod and get him a haircut. Made my Togepi evolve on the next level.

My bad, you did already mention a rock weakness. Well then you can't go wrong with Starmie. Maybe put Thunderbolt on it too.

I planned on it and I have Thunderbolt on Dragonite, too (for now at least). I also like Starmie for Power Gem since most Rock moves have some downside to them.
Do I teach my Level 55 Torterra Earthquake in replacement of Giga Drain? Yay or nay.

His other moves are Razor Leaf, Crunch and Cut.
You don't want two grass moves so getting rid of Giga Drain would be ok since you have Razor Leaf. Or you can get rid of Razor Leaf, but you'll be losing a lot of attack pp's. Even if you use a PP Max on Giga Drain.

Giga Drain has 10 PP which is fine. I'd get rid of Cut and do both Giga Drain and Earthquake. Or re-teach it Leech Seed in place of Giga Drain. In FireRed, I used to love to Leech Seed+Toxic with Venusaur.

Awesome! I won't be able to connect to the WFC or whatever the abbreviation is until later tonight.

I just made it to Goldenrod. In the fields while grinding I caught a Ditto! I'm so pumped. He's still the be-all, end-all when it comes to breeding, right? If that's the case (which I hope it is!) I can breed a round of Totodile eggs if you guys want. Just let me know.

And I hate my Beedrill. If she didn't know Cut, I'd have her constantly in my PC.

Ok, just give me a time and your friend code (in a PM if you want) and I will try trading tonight.

Ditto is great for breeding. You just won't have any different/new moves transferred to the baby.

Okay, cool. I'll shoot you a pm around 7 PM est. Is that a good time? And I'm afraid I can't offer you much right now in terms of trading, but if I've got a Totodile egg then, I can send it your way.

Sounds good. Don't worry about trading. Anything will do, even if it is just something you want to get rid of.
