Official Prey Thread
I feel bad for you 360 players... it takes FOREVER for games to drop in price for you guys.

Quake 4 is already $19.99 new for PC, while it's still $49.99 for the 360. I got a feeling Prey will quickly drop on PC.
My guess is once the Wii and PS3 come around, games will drop faster.

I wish Battlefield 2 would drop already. I mean hell EA, you dropped Burnout Revenge $20 after less than 2 months but Battlefield 2 is still full price? I think they only drop the prices of games I buy, if I don't buy it, it stays full price.

Very true. Battlefield, Far Cry, Blazing Angels...these are all games Im really shocked havn't hit 39.99 not. Also, there is no reason games like Gun and THAW took so long to drop, and they should have really dropped to 29.99.
Hmmm and so it begins, I can easily see this game getting mixed reviews.

I can't wait for the EGM where one guy gives it a 9.0, another a 7.5 and the third one gives it a 5.0 ;)
Why did you put a wink at the end? That will probally be what happens.:)

I thought the demo was fun, but I just bought G.R.A.W. a week ago (and have enjoyed) and I'm still playing Oblivion heavily, so I don't really need a new game at the moment.

Oblivion (which I've played for over 120 hours and will continue to play for months) and Ghost Recon (which I just bought but have played dozens of hours because I've been staying up until 4-5 AM) just came out a few months ago and are tremendous games that can be easily played for hundreds of hours. These two and Project Gotham Racing 3 along with demos will last me until Gears of War, Dead Rising, NBA 2K7 (hoping this will be polished more than 2K6), Rainbow Six Vegas, and then the 2007 lineup will show up and it will be filled with quality 360 [console] exclusives with Halo 3, Fable 2, Mass Effect, Alan Wake, Lost Planet, and a couple others like Crackdown and Too Human which are supposed to have great potential.

I'll skip games like Prey which are borderline and wait for the games that I'll be sure to like. The end of 2006 and the entire 2007 year should be great as long as the games are spread out. I'll have plenty to keep me busy.

Well I solved my Battlefield-less problem. I found a used copy on Ebay with a buy it now of $19.99, with shipping it came to about $29.

I finally played the multiplayer for PREY...I will pass for sure now. The game seems interesting, but mulitplayer was boring....very Quake-like. It may be worth a rental for the single player game, but we'll see....

Hopefully the DEMO is just laggy in MP too....it was horrible.

Blazing Angels isn't worth owning at any price.

Played the game one last time yesterday, can't get into it. The SP was ok, but the game just plain makes me dizzy when using the gravity walkways. Multiplayer was a lot worse. I could care less for the weapons too. Will have to cancel my preorder at GR.

Gamespot's having a live video review today at 4:00 PM PST... so that should at least provide a little more information... I'm really not sure what to think about the game at this point. The reviews are all over the place so...

Well anyway, just a heads up.
Blazing Angels isn't worth owning at any price.
I thought it was decent, and a nice diversion from FPSs and racing games.

WTF, Gamespot's review almost sounds like they loved it but are forced at gunpoint to give it a bad review.

I think they're just doing that for "street cred" because everyone hates them

Yeah, looking at gamerankings 6 or 7 reviews, they're the only one below an 80% so far. I don't really get their review. It's about an 82% average so far overall, and you can usually brush off the very lowest and very highest of the early reviews IMO. Here being gamespots 7.5 is probably harsh and IGN's 9.0 is probably exaggerated.

I cancelled my outpost order after getting that annoying "call to let us know you still want it" e-mail and picked it up at Best Buy at lunch time with some reward zone money. Feel free to send me invites tonight if anyone is on for some mp.

I didn't get that e-mail this time, but if they cancel my order, I'll just call and give them shit like when they tried to cancel my Oblivion CE.

Just wait until F.E.A.R comes out for you 360 folks... then you'll see what an awesome FPS is like. I feel bad that so far you guys are only getting the mediocre stuff like Prey and Quake 4.

Picked it up from BestBuy...I've never seen so much writing on a box before...they even put a line on the spine :p

But anywho, like I said, gym first then I'll play the game. I can't be a lazy ass gamer :)

The game is locked into god mode, when you "die" you are taken to the "spirit realm" where you shoot "spirits" for life, but you don't even have to shoot any of them you will be respawned anyways.

The game takes 4-6 hours playtime, when initially the "leaked" version was said to be an extended demo, too bad it turned out to be the actual game. The marketing and hype this game got were overblown, it's completely forgettable. This game doesn't restart any hope for the Doom 3 engine in my eyes so maybe quake wars will...

$20 - $30 by Christmas, guranteed.

I'm starting to think the Doom 3 engine is largely overblown and that devleopers would stop using it. What sucks is that Prey is the result of something like 6 years of development time.

Great idea, cause I'm sure not playing anything at all on my 360 is much better than playing a solid FPS like Prey. In fact, why don't I just play the 1 or 2 top tier games that come out each year and skip everything else...

I'm enjoying it so far. Looking forward to some mp later (kids are home now...)

I finally got around to the multiplayer demo. Wow, lotta fun! The plasma gun being able to get different types of ammo from those wall units, great new idea. The gravity walk thing is pretty fun too. I wasn't too sure about single player but multiplayer has me sold.
I hate the Doom 3 engine, except the shiny walls...oohh shiny.
It just seems like the Doom 3 engine sucks on AI compared to the Source engine or the FEAR engine.

I havnt goten far in the single player, but like the demo, I still find multiplayer to be a blast!

One major problem though....lag when you get 8 people in a match.

It was a problem in the demo, and its a problem now...this better be fixed asap.
It just seems like the Doom 3 engine sucks on AI compared to the Source engine or the FEAR engine.
Yeah, but the Source engine sucks in that (at least in HL2) it stutters like a motherfucker even on good hardware.

I personally think the FEAR engine is the best one out there by a mile. Doom III's engine though... I hate to say it, but it does kinda suck all around. I remember seeing the graphics for the first time back in 2002 and they were amazing then... but damn... it ended up being pretty weak in practice.

I just dl'ed the demo and gave it a half hour test run in single player. I was almost sold when I had a bar fight with a pipe wrench and Ted Nuget blaring in the background. I'm going to give the multiplayer a spin tomorrow and then I'll have my final decision.

But man, that juke box in the beginng was so funny...

I played the first 6 or 7 levels last night in sp. I really like it. I think it's a better game than Doom 3 or Quake IV, but in that vein. Kind of an old school fast paced shooter with some interesting weapons and very cool puzzle elements in between the action sequences.

I also played several mp matches with 6-8 players per match, and never saw any lag last night. I did have major problems with that in the demo, even with only a few players. Last night I had no disconnect or lag problems at all. MP is a blast - chaotic, fast, and surprising. From frustrating moments like being arrowed by a spirit and having no idea where the body is, to very original and mind boggling maps. Good times. I don't know if I see myself playing this every night for months on end, but there's definitely some fun to be had for a little while. I'd say I probably agree with TXB's 8.3 review score.

I had some lag in a few of my games in multiplayer which caused me to die a ridiculous amount. The games where there wasn't any lag were a lot of fun though. I like the single player mode to but I'm stuck on the fourth or fifth board. I'm at this spot where you drop down in to this area and I have not figured out how the hell to get out. I'll be looking for a hint on this today. Overall it seems like a very solid game so far.

Spirit walking is almost always the answer. And think about where you leave your body when you do it...

I think I know where you're at. See those blue things on the floor, ceilings and walls? Shoot one on the ceiling or wall and the level will flip around.:D

I think your right, I'm going to try that this evening. Thanks a lot for the tip.

Can someone take a pic of the collectors edition for me? Like inside and all that good stuff. I got mine open from GStop cause it was their last one. It has no case and a weird insert dealie. help a CAG out please.

Ok I have yet to get in an 8 person game without lag...however, 6 seems to be the sweet spot.

Once you get 7 or 8 people, you hear audio glitches and you can barely move...atleast from what I've played.

However, with 6 people the game is a blast! I LOVE the sunbeam gun. I also dont know why people arn't really using the crawlers. I set those little bastards up around the door, which makes for a great kill. :D

As you can see from my achievements I havn't played single player much, but I'll get around to it eventually.

***EDIT***

I decided to see if the developers were aware of the lag problems, and found this thread.

http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showthread.php?t=19825

Sweet...looks like a patch is in the works.
And people complained about the PC games being rushed out and then patched... looks like that problem has finally hit consoles as well.
Ok 2 things Roufuss, and I'm not trying to turn this into anything cause you're generally one of the people I like around here (of which there are few people):

1) Have you even played the game yourself or are you just going on the reviews? Further, if you have played it, did you play anything more than the demo?

2) Why do you hate this game so much? It seems like in every thread about this game (which brings up the question of why are there 3 threads but that's another issue), you have nothing but negative things to say about it. Didn't your momma ever teach you the addage, if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all?

Like I said, I'm not trying to start a flame war or argument, I'm just curious.

I played it, it's highly mediocre IMO (not just the demo, either)... I was really hyped up for it, they worked on this game for years, and I really expected something great. I felt this same way about Quake 4... something they hyped up and fell short of what I expected.

At this point, I mostly blame the Doom 3 engine, it looks nice but I just don't think it's on par to the superior engines out there, espically in the AI dept.

Prey would have been great if it really did come out a long time ago... hell, it might have been revolutionary. But now it stands up against games like Half Life 2, F.E.A.R, Call of Duty 2, SiN Episodes (which gave me 6 - 7 hours for $10).

I didn't try multiplayer, but the fact it only shipped with DM / Team DM was a disappointment... it's like, what the hell were these people working on the last couple of years? I expect Duke Nukem Forever is going to come out with like 2 hours of gameplay.

My last comment wasn't something against Prey, more along the lines of everyone always using "PC Gaming sucks because you have to patch games as soon as they come out to get them running", but now we're seeing the same things on the 360 (which makes me kind of sad, because it means developers will get lazy like they did on the PC, which I hope Microsoft dosen't allow).

Maybe I am a bit too vocal for my own good, but I just don't want someone to rush out and blow $60 / $70 ($70, wow, insanity). But hey, maybe Multiplayer really is that good... I'll know once the PC version drops down to $20 - $30 by Christmas and I'll give the game a spin.

Believe me, I wanted this game to be something great, more than anyone.

I can see where you're coming from.

However, you have to realize that its not like they were working on the game for 6 years straight. They've shelved and restarted the project at least once so its definetly not the same game it would have been 6 years ago.

I know the portals don't seem to add a lot of depth to the game but once you get into it they really do. Same with the gravity effects and the out of body. There's a few puzzles that I've encountered now that actually use all 3 of these things to have you solve it.

I think this game is the equivalent of a summer blockbuster movie. Its not too terribly challenging and its main goal is to just keep you entertained. It's mindless fun at its best.

I played the game for nearly 3 hours earlier and not once did I get bored or think about putting it down. Now, if you knew me in real life, you'd realize that that's really something. I usually have a very short attention span when it comes to games but this one definetly keeps my interest.

I did read in one article what seemed like a hint that there was a plan to release newer multiplayer game modes via download. I guess my opinion on that will depend on the cost (if there is one). Although, I've had plenty of fun playing multiplayer and the only multiplayer I've done was on the demo (I think I played it for about 2-3 hours).

I'm not saying its the best FPS ever but it does do a lot of new and entertaining things that set it apart from Doom 3 and Quake IV to the point that it really seems like a different type of FPS altogether.

I think that's really an excellent summary of this game. I'm curious what modes they have in mind. I think there's so much variablility just in deathmatch with the gravity/spirit/portal stuff that maybe they just knew they would hook people for a while. Adding all those things into a CTF game or something similar could really be fun and challenging.

All Prey threads merged because I was sick of seeing three of them bumped all the time. Chose to merge them into this thread because morpheus keeps it updated.

Any discussion regarding the game goes here.

Um... why did you merge the PC Prey thread into the 360 Prey thread? That's kind of stupid.

I went to go ask a question in the PC thread, and it's gone, and I'm pretty sure 360 people won't be able to help me with a PC related issue.
