Official Ratchet & Clank Future Thread

I have the demos for Ratchet Deadlocked and Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, and hated both of them. But the demo for this game is solid. Will buy at some point.

This is the first R&C game i've played. At first I thought it was just going to be another platformer, but the storyline is pretty good and the upgradable weapons gives it a lot of variety. I recommend it to anyone with a PS3

Just finished tonight and have to say wow. I haven't had this much fun since Oddworld on the xbox. The imaginative weapons and the humor in the story is just great. I never had one camera angle problem or character control problems at all, which I think is something just because almost every platformer I have ever played has had those problems at some point in the game.

just finished this on sun.

great game indeed
the ending leaves some thread untied but hey thats why there is a next one.

in regard to previous ratchet and clank games

which are best? (i have just about all the ps2 ones now...but havent played any of them)
and in what order should the series be played? im guessing in release order.

thanks. :)

I still like the original the best, simply for its story. Going Commando was good, and Up Your Arsenal had tons of variety. Deadlocked is still in its shrinwrap at home, as it had average reviews, and there was very little platforming and story telling in it.
So, if I had to play them over again, I would still play the original first, and then it would be a toss up between Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal.

As for missing on story lines, it won't matter, as the story does not matter as much after you play the original.
I guess the exception would be this last version, since they purposely leave you hanging.

Oh, and I really liked this last game (finished two days ago)...everything but the Rino IV. It seemed like they just ran out of ideas...

Just started today. Quite a charming little game. It sucks that I had to delete the GT HD Concept demo for it to install because of the bug, though.

Also, is the rumble in this game really that weak? I do the wrench slam in the air and it barely rumbles. I didn't see an option in the menus anywhere to adjust it.

what bug???
what bug???
It's a weird hard drive space bug. If you have a certain amount of hard drive space, the game tells you that you don't have enough space to save the game. The easiest solution is to add or get rid of 500 MB, which Insomniac suggests the RCF demo, and you can save.

Finally got home to my PS3 and had a chance to play the demo. All I have to ask is, how in the hell did Gamespot give this game a 7.5? It's unbelievable; fun, refined, with amazing presentation. I need to pick this up.

On Kreeli Comet, when you play as Clank, what is that code that popped up? Something about a secret about the next Secret Angent Clank. The code flashed on the screen but I couldn't write it down. What does it do?

Yep, I ran into the bug when I installed the game. I thought my HD was going bad. I just deleted the R&C demo to clear the space.

I'm wondering how anyone gave it above a 7.5.

That Secret Agent Clank code reappears if you go back to that spot, I guess its for an upcoming PSP game?

I just beat the game. I really enjoyed it. Game wasn't too short and wasn't too long. Just right for me. I loved the weapons and overall feel to the game. Can't wait for the sequal. I'm going to play a second time through on challenge mode to get all the skill points and all the weapons. Great game!
I was wondering about the ending.

Is it leading up to a sequel on the PS3, or is it just to plug the new Clank PSP game?
A sequel. SAC takes place before ToD:
The story is set before Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction but after Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters and involves Ratchet being framed for a crime that he didn't commit. Clank dons his alter-ego secret agent persona to investigate who is really behind the crime. [2]
Anyone else having problems setting the Space Controls to Y-Axis inverted? I keep setting it to that in the menu, but it doesn't invert the controls. I have a hell of a hard time hitting any targets as a result.

I had the same issue. Eventually I just got used to it...
I had the same issue. Eventually I just got used to it...
That sucks. I hope there's a patch coming 'cause I really can't get used to it. It's not very intuitive when you play the rest of the game inverted.

I played Ratchet A LOT this weekend. I absolutely love this game. I don't know if that's the graphics (thank God a dev actually knows how to use detail maps - don't you hate it on most games when you get right next to a texture and they look like crap? - and no it's not anti-aliasing or mip-mapping that fixes that it's detail textures...).

The 7.1 discrete LPCM soundtrack might help make me gush with joy...it's really a combination of things, but man I love this game.

woot! Just got email from Goozex. R&C is on its way.

Actually, I feel a little guilty. I was going to buy this one to support Insomniac. For some reason I feel bad that this game is not selling better.

I beat Ratchet last night.

It does get quite a bit harder at the end...but not impossible.

Ratchet is probably one of my top 5 favorite games this year. I really enjoyed it.

I envy you and your 7.1 system! Glad you beat the game and enjoyed it.

Well a title of R&C quality, with a dev cycle of ~2 years would atleast want 500 to not be failure. 1 million would be good.

A sports title which gets recycled everyyear, with a 9 month dev cycle needs 200k to not be a failure.
edit: sports titles have licensing fees, but still you if your team was much bigger than 30, margins would be tight.

Ratchet hasn't been out for long, so It should hit 500k, eventually, but I would have thought it should be there already...

The development cycle was just over a year, as they started around September 06, shortly before Resistance was being finished up.

Finished it this weekend. Don't know what the hell took me so long, but I played for 3 hours or so to finish it out.
WOW.
Easily my personal GOTY.

I am thoroughly enjoying R&C. Its great building up your weapons and releasing hell on the enemies. Story is great, good humor, fantastic graphics, difficulty just right. Yeah, I like it.
Seems like a great game. Why didn't it sell?
People are going a little too far saying Ratchet bombed because of the NPD sales in October (when it was released in the end of October). The truth is Ratchet & Clank games are normally released at the beginning of a month, and they typically sell under 500k during an 8 month time period (also, being priced at $10 less than most third party games helped a little). Ratchet Deadlocked (which was released at the end of October in 05) did worse than R&C Future, but ended up doing fine in the end (mostly because it gained a lot of sales when it hit GH status). What causes them to become big sellers is under a Greatest Hit status. That's what happened with the Ratchet and Jak series (actually, the majority of Sony's first party franchises are that way). I expect Ratchet to sell very well when it becomes a GH.

The game definitely rocks though. Easily my 2nd favorite game in 2007.

I might as well post this here too:

Beat R&C:FTOD tonight. It really is a damn good game not as good as UYA IMO, but still a great game. I really only have two things left to say about it.

1. Wtf kind of ending is that?

2. Good
shaqfu.gif
ing god it costs a shit load to upgrade your weapons to omega. I probably wont play it again for some time since after seeing those prices, and seeing how my fully upgraded weapons from last time are weak as hell it's like starting all over again. Also to get the best armor, (I am assuming anyway) it's 10 million bolts.

Yeah the ending was messed up haha.

And about the upgrades... I figured it was coming, why I never bought armor and used a few weapons as I could. Also when you replay, you should get a multiplier for killing enemies (who also drop more bolts). Not 100% how the mulitplier works. Think you get more levels by not getting hit and killing many enemies.

It was a great ending until
The damn Zonis took Clank away. I was a little sad seeing him go like that, and Ratchet not being able to get him and being emotional like he was made it sad. Guess I just have to look at it as a sequel is for sure coming now. I was shocked to know that dude killed Ratchets dad, the Lombaxes ran away, and Ratchet isn't Ratchets real name. Too bad we will never know his real name either.

I played a little bit of it after I beat it just to check out the prices of the weapons, and armor and to get my ship again. I like that they give you a multiplier, but it's damn hard not to get hit. I can get a good chain going and then I get hit and have to re-build it up. Also I would of liked to be able to customize my ship like you could in UYA. Not a big complaint but I liked doing that. When I feel like playing it again, which I probably will soon enough it does add a lot of replay value to the game. I mean with the weapons to upgrade not only in bolts but raritanium as well.

Anyway it's a great game and overall I'd give it 9.0/10. I will probably start it up again in a few weeks, since I have always had everything maxed in UYA I'd like to do the same in FTOD.

I don't get hit very often. Guess why I beat the game without upgrading armor so easily. I'm used to the last game, it was WAY more intense then this one. I was a little disappointed there wasn't bigger groups coming at you from all over like in some of the matchs in Deadlocked.

I loved it when the screen was so full of things blowing up and people shooting at you it lagged the PS2. I figured with the PS3 they were going to try out doing that and have it run smoother. They did it to a degree, there was more background stuff going on this time.

I like getting all the upgrades/bolts too. I got the bolts and working on maxing everything out. I can't wait until Home is released and we can earn rewards for doing this kind of stuff in future games.

I was able to upgrade everything to Omega by about 2/3 of the way through my second playthrough. Some of the arena matches make it easy to build up the multiplier, plus planets like Sargasso. I found it easiest to upgrade my nets , rockets and swarmers first, then upgrade the rest. I preferred UYA as well, although that may be because it was my first R&C game.

I was thinking maybe in the arena I could earn enough bolts to upgrade my shit to Omega. Since I usually do really well in the arena matches (Why didn't they have more of these?) I could avoid getting hit there a lot easier. Yeah, UYA was also my first R&C game as well. After I played it I went and played the first, and the second one too. I didn't care that much for the first one, but I did enjoy the second one. I liked Deadlocked as well but it doesn't really compare to the others since it's basically arena matches.

I'm just now playing this one for the first time. Can anyone tell me if there is an "auto target" or "auto lock on" when firing?

It should be on by default, so that you see a red target on enemies when you've locked on if I remember correctly.
