Official Ratchet & Clank Future Thread

Well what I'm thinking is they can focus on Single Player for the release, and probably add on Multiplayer through DL Update down the line.

I don't know what you're talking about, Deadlocked was far from awful. It may have been more combat focused, but it was still a great game.
Well, I'd agree if the multiplayer were the main focus like the pretty awful Ratchet : Deadlock. But if it's in addition to an awesome single-player game like Commando or Arsinal, then it's just extending the game's life and since $60 is a lot of money, I was hoping for both. But yes, single player is by far the most important aspect of a good R&C game.
I can't say I've found the multiplayer to much more than just okay, so I'll gladly embrace a focus on single-player.

From the devs:

- Frame rate much better than demo, which is E3 code and from June.
- Frame rate is always over 30fps and mostly 50-60fps.
- 22GB on disc, without all the padding and international stuff it's still bigger than DVD-9
- Only about half the levels in the game have ever been shown to various media.
- Max groove-a-tron capacity is now 3 instead of 5 and there are like 15 songs for it.

I'll meet you half way. It wasn't awful, you're right. But compared to the original trilogy, it was far shorter, less fun, less charming and an overall disappointment (at least in the single player game).

In any case, I'll be getting this one the day it comes out. Can't wait. Still need to find that demo, though.

I heard a Gamestop employee say he liked Deadlocked the most, lol. I still enjoyed Deadlocked a lot, especially when I updated the control scheme.

Anyway, I got the demo and it rocks so much. Although I can see some graphical problems, it's fun.

Question about resolution:

Is this going to be 720p only again like Resistance was? My HDTV that I'm currently using is 480i/p and 1080i only and I won't buy this game if it's 720p/480p only.

The reason I ask is the demo seemed to only be playing in 480p but I didn't test it to make sure.

No worries there.

The demo doesn't, final build will.

720p seems to be the sweet spot for this generation of gaming. Anything higher is just too many pixels to render.

To give an example, take your favorite most recent high end 3d game for your PC. Set it to 1920x1080 resolution at the high to medium-high graphics settings. How fast would your PC run it?

720p = 921,600 pixels
1080p = 2,073,600 pixels, that's double 720p.

Therein lies the problem. This generation of consoles just don't have the power to do 1080p with all the fancy graphical tech turned on. They can try, but then you get those inconsistent framerates that we saw in Lair.

I'd much rather games be at 720p with stable or faster framerates myself.

However some games don't use all the fancy effects out there, and 1080p can work just fine for them. (like GT5)

I have never played R&C before (never had a ps2). I may pick up a ps2 version to tide me over. I likely will only have time to play one of them, keeping this in mind, which one would you recomend getting. Thanks,
~S
Debating if this would make a nice rental, or if it's collection worthy.
Can't really answer that until it comes out... But If you look at the past R&C games, you'll see that there usually is a lot to do in them. If you're like me and want to find everything and max out the weapons, then I'm not sure you'll be able to do all that before the rental time came around.
From the devs:whistle2: Frame rate is always over 30fps and mostly 50-60fps.
Weren't the old R&C Games nearly always at 60 fps?

Sony sent me a demo. It still has the fun, but the screen tearing was UGLY. It almost looked like the first scene was done in-engine (because there was a bit of tearing) impressive, but it could have been done in FMV.

This pic remind anyone of a level in Resistance?

Same release day as Guitar Hero III now :whistle2:(

I might wait to buy this and Uncharted until I get a Dual Shock 3. There are way too many 360 games with multiplayer that will probably take up my time. Although I'm super pumpted for Ratchet.

Wow all this PS3 shit getting pushed back is really starting to piss me off.

Same here, it seems everything that has/is released on the PS3 experiences some type of delay. In a way I don't mind it if it REALLY is for full-proofing/tweaking/fixing/enhancing/etc.. the game, but dammit people, if your going to give a specific release date, stick to it!!!
Most of the hostility doesn't go towards this game though, since it's only been pushed back a week, but other games (i.e. Lair) were delayed and it didn't prove to be of any benefit for the most part (well, review wise and to a number of the public).

Yeah Lair, Stranglehold, Home, MGS4 (well, still :D ), just a ton of stuff. It really is just uncalled for.

It's nearly reviewed in the new EGM (it's in the review wrap-up section in the back). They give it a very positive review. They note it's with a lot more platforming like the original game and that the emphasis has moved away from just being a shooter. They like the sixaxis mini games. I'll copy it over later if anyone's interested.
I don't think it's that big of a deal. Now we'll have 3 weeks to complete Folklore which is supposedly around 20-30 hours.
The problem is that those of us who own consoles other than the PS3 might not have time for it now. There is a hell of a lot of games coming out in November.

This delay stuff with the PS3 is getting a bit silly now.

I've had my PS3 for a little over 2 months and this will be my first PS3 disc game.

Wish I could find a preorder deal on this.

EARLY REVIEW from an insider I respect.

Just finished the game (review code).

It's AWESOME from start to finish. 9/10. Period.

It's rather long (as usual with the franchise and with the Insomniac production) albeit a bit on the easy side. Took me around 12 hrs to finish it, but didn't max everything and I have A LOT of secrets to dig.

I can also confirm screen tearing is completely gone. Some frame rate drops, as already stated by the devs, but trust me you wont bother. Most wont even notice. The amount of stuff on screen is just overwhelming. The "Resistance engine" is definetly improved and I cant wait to see how Resistance 2 will look like considering they will probably stick with the 30fps thing. Some textures are incredible and there are a lot of reflection effects on metal/wet surfaces that you will stare for hours. And the space shooting sections... OMFG! Gameplay wise they are pretty straight forward (albeit you have to control the crosshairs and the ship indipendently, one stick each, which needs some getting used to) but graphically are truly amazing. Your retinas will burn if not disintegrate when you'll see them. Believe me.

Aliasing is almost gone, not as clean as the "doctored" pics but it's pretty close. Basically think Resistance IQ-wise, but with a tiny bit of "out of focus" filter on top of it. Hard to explain, and probably dependant on my screen overscanning, but you wont notice it after a while. It's very subtle and not disturbing at all. I guess it's some kind of cheap FSAA.

What else... hmmm... Ah, the ending... R&CF2 will be interesting to say the least ;)

Oh, and the Insomniac humor is still there. Strongly. I was ROTFL at some point during the cutscene that shows the first space strip of the duo. Cryogenic sleep...

BUY BUY BUY

Insomniac delivers again.

PS: finished the game in one loooong no-sleep session. Not because I have to review it tomorrow, but cos I just couldn't resist the temptation to see what's next. So addicting.

Damn that blurb about the ending. This game needs to get here soon. Has there been any news on whether they can read PS2 memory cards and transfer some data/money over? Is that even possible techincally?

They want to start fresh with Future, so they're not doing it.

Can't wait-- I'm a huge fan of Ratchet and Clank. From what I've seen on the demo..(Can anyone say ps3 golden week vis a via Folklore and the R&C Demo dropping on the PSN?) It looks like the type of game I remember and love from a few years ago.

I wonder how "less of a shooter" they made it though, that has me a little worried-- the original R&C was alright I guess, but kinda meh. Going Commando hit the balance spot on however, I loved it.

Hopefully they emulate more of the latter and a little less of the former.

Just played the demo -- I like it a LOT. Those Insomniac guys have a great sense of humor. Yeah, it felt like more of the same, but in a very good way. The game if freakin' beautiful and they've got potential with even the sixaxis stuff. Can't wait til the end of the month!

Played the demo, looked amazing. Gameplay wise though I'm a little off-kilter. Is it just me or does the movement/shooting/jumping all feel a bit sluggish? I'm not even talking about the lackluster lock-on or the RE4 style 3rd person aim bit, everything just feels slower--- I dunno maybe it was the fact that the Lancer isn't in the demo (is it in the game?) but the starting blaster just felt insanely weak and molasses levels of slow.

Grooveatron was fun though, I like how each enemy had a different dance--I wonder what the powered up version does?

Kinda odd, my local Gamestop had a big poster that said coming on Oct. 21 :whistle2:k

Maybe it was b/c I was in Burbank, I dunno :/ (Insomniac Games is in Burbank,CA if you didn't know)
any way to invert the up and down look in the demo? It's kicking my ass not being able to change it.
Maybe not the demo, but the full game will probably allow it (previous R&C games did).

Well I got through the game, I just kinda wish the world was larger and the character was a bit smaller, and that everything would move at a quicker pace.

I like the groovitron though ;)

Hmm, great graphics, smooth framerates, and for once, anti-aliasing! Why can't companies like EA and others do the same?

Is the PS3 really hard to program for, and are Insomniac people programing geniuses? Or are people lazy?

The game was pushed back a week.

I think EA is just plain lazy. Just look at Madden every year and see exactly what they change to make it better than the last.

.....no shit.

That's why I was perplexed by the Poster up at Gamestop.
