Official Sears Clearance Thread II - post Sears finds/deals here
What system was the Lego Rock Band for?
Playstation 3. Went on a clearance a long time ago, found it for like 4.97 at one store, while it stayed at 19.99 at my home store. It finally adjusted at home
Anyone (besides Cheapy) could be banned from this site for ticking off the wrong people. Just ask ZL, oh wait, you can't!
Exactly. That's why even though I have 'speaks his mind' as my custom user title I know when to bite my tongue and avoid saying something that may be a bannable offense.;)

Anyway, I got a call from the general manager of the Sears store I gave the poor ratings to yesterday afternoon. He kept asking me if there was ANYTHING he could do for me at the end of the call and while the cheapass in me wanted to ask for a gift card for my time/trouble/aggravation I didn't wanna come off as only looking for a quick payoff for complaining.

So I just kept saying no and that I just wanted to make them aware of the issues at that store.

The thing that's crazy is that for all the things I couldve/shouldve been banned for, what I ultimate got a 1 week suspension for wasn't even that bad. In fact, it was just stating the truth. I guess it was what they call a "makeup call" in sports.

IATTCG - not asking for something free puts more weight on your complaint. I usually refuse any sort of gc or coupon when I'm really steamed about something.

Did you specify the name of the one guy that WAS doing his job or is he going to get put through the wringer along with his lazy co-workers? (Though, in my experience in retail, the guy doing his job will still get yelled at because the department as a whole always gets punished regardless of who works their ass off and who doesn't).

Good call on refusing freebies though. Like confusious said, the issue will be taken more seriously if the person in charge knows it is a legitimate complaint and not just a customer trying to get something out of it.

The problem I have run into is when I don't even ask for anything, companies still think I am trying to get a gc or something else and ignore the letter. I wrote a letter to an amusement park chain in 2008 about some problems I had at the park. They sent me some exit passes to skip the line on a future visit. I then wrote again in 2009 about completely unrelated issues to the letter in 2008 like a ride operator having his cell phone out and texting while the ride was running and some other problems, they ignored the letter completely probably thinking I am a complainer only looking to get something back.

Unfortunately I was in a bit of a fog the other day since I didn't sleep the night before, so I didn't even think to jot down the guy's name who had helped me while the others were watching ESPN.

Hopefully the guy who was being helpful will speak up and not let himself be grouped in with the rest of them if it comes down to them all getting yelled at.

They were doing the same thing at the store closer to me, but since there's nothing left there on clearance I haven't been back to the local one in a while.

Hello. I'm relatively new to CAG and find myself already pretty obsessive about checking the site for deals. I appreciate the amazing deals shared in the community.

I am trying to figure out exactly how the Sears clearance prices work. I know it's a YMMV. I read the beginning of the thread and several recent pages but I'm still not sure how this is working. I would appreciate help with two questions if possible.

1) Are the low prices you are finding games at ONLY from their clearance bins? My store has newer titles I've read in this thread as being really cheap, but are still in the "new" area. Should I be price checking if I hear about a good deal on a specific game from this thread, or is it a pretty strong YMMV?

2) Are the clearance bin sticker prices usually higher then what they actually ring up as? In example, my local Sears has a BUNCH of PS2 games on clearance but most are priced at $19.99. I'd love to pick up Shadow of the Colossus but not for $20. Is the actual price most likely cheaper then what is shown?

I stopped by my local Sears tonight (I reported yesterday about sears.com listing 1600 Microdsoft Points for $14.97) and found lots of red/pink stickered items but not at the prices I am reading here. None of the gaming items at my local Sears are behind glass, so that should help.

Thanks for any help you can provide! Paul

Price stickers are not always updated with what the price should be. Case in point, most games that I find that're $2-4 are marked $30-40. If price stickers were marked correctly, then most normal customers would probably pick up cheap games and we wouldn't find anything.

As for the newer titles being marked clearance, some of those were probably just on a store by store basis and only because those stores were clearancing out all of their games to eliminate their gaming section completely. Unless it's being reported as an across the board drop by more than 4-6 people in different areas of the country, I would not take the newer games being clearanced as anything more than a fluke.

Since you said most of the stuff at your Sears is in a bin or two, I would just take those items you want to get a current price on over to a price check scanner and scan them yourself if no one in electronics is helping you.

Thank you very much for the help. I appreciate it!

You're quite welcome. Up until I joined CAG I had rarely visited Sears, Target or Toys R' Us for clearance games, but ever since joining they've been semi regular stops for me.

Went to one sears last night, they had GH World Tour for 360 & Wii but both rang out of system. Bakugan 360 was still $12.97 and Hawx PS3 was $11.97.

Now that SHC Gamer said that the "days of $5 games" are over, I wonder how he really plans to get rid of all the crap games that are sitting around.

The days of $5 games may be over, but I picked up SIX games the other day for less than $7 total.;) I'm ok with that, even though it's going to take forever for them to get to that point with the $1, $2 and $3 cycles we've been seeing as of late.

Hawx for PS3 was $6.97 at a Sears I stopped at the other day, so maybe the store you went to is behind by a couple cycles?

Yeah $5 dollar games is not over.

I just purchased VVVVVV f/ Steam for under $5 and using the TRU $10 off XB games got The Saboteur for under $4 and passed up many under $5 due to lack of interest and not to horde on the deal.

It might be harder to get the good deals but currently I've saved a lot of money doing minimal amount of driving and effort to get some Cheap Ass Games..

Anything I have any interest in the 5-15 range is something I will work towards getting.

When did SHC say the $5 games are over??? He is a CAG face for Sears/KMart so why would he do something like end the glorious $5 games?? Also I picked up tons of games for less then $5 from Sears the last couple months (Boy and His Blob, Loco Roco 2, Singstar Vol. 2, Viva Pinata, TNA Impact).

Point being there are still $5 games it's just a matter of if you can find any or not.

1) No they are everywhere you just need to keep up with the thread to see what games are on clearance (a while back they put Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and Metroid Prime Trilogy on clearance and they were still in the glass case)

2) No the sticker price doesn't necessarily match actual price (though I have seen stickers placed over the real UPC with the "manager's clearance price") grab the game you think is on clearance and go to one of the price checkers to see if it's on clearance

Loco Roco 2 was only $.50 this month at Sears, $.97 last month. So the days of $5 games may be over, but if $.50 games are the future, then I welcome our new clearance masters with open arms.;)

SHC just said that the other day. He said that the reason is that it doesn't make financial sense. He expounded on the thought by saying that he has no issue with 9.99 or 14.99 but $5 makes no sense unless it is a last gen game.

I get what he was saying, but the games won't move at 14.99 unless they mark them down to that price at a much quicker pace. I'm sorry but a two year old sports game will never sell for 9.99.
Shc said it recently on the kmart thread. He meant the new drops wont be going down to 5
Well then, that means Kmart is off of my radar, since that's the only reason I was still going to their stores was for clearance.

I guess if new drops won't be going to $5 that means they'll NEVER let the PStwo slim systems drop to $10(90% off of the current $100 MSRP) so I can't find an insane deal on a PStwo like I did a PSone at the end of that gen.

The only way things might go back to 'normal' is if the current trend towards $20 off coupons on games were to miserably fail. Unfortunately I don't see that happening, just like I don't see Best Buy going back to putting out alot of coupons via the Gamer's Club anymore when people are willingly buying the @Gamer magazine.

Well this makes me unhappy. With the exception of bundles with mics, DDR, etc, who's going to pay those prices? Most of what they have is shovelware that will just sit around. If they don't want to sell it for the price the market will bear ($5 for much of it) then maybe they shouldn't stock it in the first place! He's clearly doing a poor job as a "buyer". With all those guitar hero, rock band, etc bundles they have sitting around in multiple stores that I've seen.

fort wayne has the SEPT price drops... nothing to get happy about

1 ds game FF wings

2 PSP games R type someothing and some other junk

2 or 3 ps3 or xbox 360 games just junk

It goes for Sears too

I know the first post hasn't been edited in ages, but does anyone know if the 120GB 360 hard drive price is still valid?
It goes for Sears too
So stuff is just going to drop out the system after $9.97? I basically will have no reason to go to Sears or KMart now. When there was a drop I always enjoyed printing out a list and looking for the $1.99 and $4.99 games at KMart or the $0.97 - $4.97 games at Sears and usually would pick up a non gaming item when going to KMart (like some snacks that are on sale) or checking the clearance clothing at Sears.

I know $9.99 might be considered cheap for a PS3, Wii or 360 game but there are plenty of games I saw for a couple of dollars and thought they looked interesting but wouldn't have considered getting them for around $10.
It goes for Sears too
I do understand their reasoning for not wanting to sell games for too cheap, but at the point that many of these games are at in their life cycle in the chain already they've long since passed their prime selling point.

With how lazy some of the Sears and Kmart employees are(case in point the store I hit on Monday) none of these games will ever get properly whored out to the general public and will languish even further in the cases causing them to become clogged with games no one wants even for $10.

So where's this post from SHC saying the $10 limit on game price drops on clearance?

Did you try searching the K-mart thread with Sears & Clearance? :applause:
The days of finding $5 games at Kmart have most likely come to a close, that is just not a profitable way to do business. We should however be pricing games competitvely in terms of catalog business and would love any feedback towards that end. If there are titles that are slow selling we will definitely drop them to sub $20 as quickly as possible but as I have stated before the best way to build this budget is to increase overall revenue which these sales are accomplishing. We will be launching a value fixture later this month that will end up being the home for this strategy. We will definiely see a pick up in clearance activity in October.
He didn't mention Sears at all in that statement, though Kmart/Sears are pretty much one and the same at this point since it's all one company.

As long as what he said in THIS thread still holds true(not touching Sears clearance), then I won't have too much of a problem with it, since Sears has had better games on clearance versus some of the ones at Kmart(X-Blades).

how much can you get for splinter cell conviction on xbox 360? and also this game i dnt no wat its called but it has some scenes in it - www(.)youtube(.)com/watch?v=DARjSqs2JBY

Hmm SHC=Sears Holding Company
Anything that happens at Kmart will eventually be at Sears. It was stated earlier that they would be on the same page when it comes to video games.

I really hope 50 cent games are the future!!

Bad news tho I went to 2 Sears today and pretty much all the clearance games are now off clearance (Lego Rockband, Dirt 2, Red Faction, Brutal Legend, TNA Impact) WTF???

I did find 2 Loco Roco's for 50 cent each but that's it... discuss (?)

I really don't believe they are going to go along with the whole limiting clearance games, we have a really good example with MARK OF KRI.

That thing never dropped for the longest time, that it got dusty inside the glass case (literally), if that's how kmart and sears are going to move inventory then they better get more dustbusters.
I didn't bother checking my local Sears. Instead I went to the local Best Buy and bought 2 $4.99 games.

what games are 4.99 at BB?
I picked up RB Metal Pack, Fairytale Fights and Terminator Salvation all for the 360.

Central NJ, found a bunch of games on clearance from other stores but not at mine :(

Did pick up REdbull game for 27 cents. But nothing else was under $13. Unreal Tourny was $13, and other games I can't remember were all showing $19.99

When were Red Faction and Brutal Legend on clearance? I know Lego Rock Band was, at least for the PS3 anyway, since I picked up a copy a while ago.

Wow. That is one of the quickest price dropping games in history then if it's already $5 at some Best Buy stores. Then again it did suck and it was only worth free like some of us picked it up for a while back.

Shoot, my Sears never has things priced right. In fact the have the main area with the games behind a glass case, a clearance bin now (everything is 14.99 - 29.99....wouldn't call that clearance), and another glass case area with games stacked up high and some are actually obscuring ones behind (in that case you can't see most prices either).

Do they WANT to sell them or what?

Also my TRU doesn't have a clearance bin, and my Kmart is never priced right either. Fun fun in my area.

Damn JK. It sounds like you have a goldmine waiting to be explored on your hands there. The one Kmart by here was like that before the edict from corporate to properly price everything and to re-arrange the cases.

Before the cleanup I found at least 50 games that were on clearance and at 90% off already AND at least one 120gb 360 HDD for $15 when it was on clearance.

But since corporate started putting the clearance lists on their internal site AND the store cleaned up the cases and marked everything right I have found jack and shit in the last 3 months.

Yea, there's a lot of stuff I think they're just never going to get rid of. There are a couple stores in Orlando that still have games like Singstar Rocks, Singstar 80's, Monster Hunter Freedom 2, Warhawk, etc. Unfortunately they're back up to full price (or out of the system, cant remember). The Brandon, FL store has hundreds of titles going all the way back to 2004 still at $29.99-$49.99.

I dont really see how games that old could still be counted in the "revenue stream". Even if your company didn't see profits in the fiscal year, keeping junk around for 6 years because you don't want to sell it for less and "lose money" seems moot.

Visited Sears for the first time in a couple of months. Only one big score:

Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings :ds: for $9.97

(I might be off by a penny or two.)

For everyone complaining about SHC, he doesn't control any Sears pricing. It's a separate division, and thats why the prices are different at both stores.

But SHC has said that games on clearance at Kmart will no longer go cheaper than $10, which is still bullshit and will probably prevent me from actually getting any really good deals there from here on out.

I've become accustomed(some would say it's entitlement)to getting games for $2-5 at most from both Sears and Kmart and most of the ones I've bought weren't worth much more than that to me. So if clearance were to completely screech to a halt or stop dropping as cheap as they have for a loooooong time, then both stores and their management can get bent as far as I'm concerned.

Of course, I'm not the type of customer they really want in the first place, since I ONLY buy clearance games 90-95% of the time and they want people buying them at MSRP or close.

Picked up FF XII: Revenant Wings (DS) today for $10.

Is Loco Roco (the first one) on clearance? I know the second one is, but didn't see any :(

i just got back from sears. everything has been marked up to 9.97 or more. i picked up unreal tournament for the 360 for 4.97 only because it was marked that price. it rang up 9.97 but the manager honored the marked price.
Bye Bye awesome clearance prices.
i agree. it seems the shc...aka josh clearance tyranny is well under way.
The curse of corporate meddling strikes again.

But hey, at least we get those AWESOME MSRP priced games with coupons we can use on the NEXT game we buy, right?
im starting to think that the next gen cant come soon enough so i can late adopt and get good clearance prices on these systems.

Good luck. Unless the rest of CAG stops buying up the games they're putting on 'sale' now with the $10/$20/etc coupons it's looking like SHC and crew are here to stay.
