Here's some screens.

Looking pretty good to me.

Now can't wait to play it at E3.

beleive me, I think everyone will be happy when they see this game on a PSP. I think a PS2 version would be nice, but the PSP version is more than enough for me! Yay!

... now let me go practice my EWGF and Debuggers...

in the first set of screenshots, top right corner, is that Xiaoyu in a chinese dress with pigtails?

Sonofa ... I was expecting DR to be the Greatest Hits version of Tekken 5, too, like what Sega did with Virtua Fighter. Considering I've worn out two controllers playing T5, I can't say I'd want the same thing to happen to a $250 PSP ...

I think this would be awesome on the PSP as long as it doesn't come out on the PS2... and if it still has Tekken 1, 2, and 3 included.

I'm sick of seeing PS2 ports on the PSP so we've gotta have something exclusive... this would not be a bad choice.

strangely I am happy it's on a portable since I spend more time playing portables than standard consoles for no particular reason. Plus, the PSP can very easily handle the graphics of the PS2 since it is so close to the PS2's power, or even better in certain respects. High chances it wont carry the old Tekken titles due to capacity of the UMD, but depending on how much space TDR takes on the umd, we'll have to wait and see.

I also tested out what it would feel like to do some tekken moves on the PSP d-pad (emulating them) and it sure feels more natural than what 2d fighters do on the PSP since there's less focus on quarter circles... in fact the onyl character with alot of circle movements in Tekken is Jack-5... which kinda pisses me off since I'm trying to make him my secondary character...

Well since Tekken is less focused on motions than taps then that just means Namco has to make sure that diagonals are forgiving. Because if they aren't I won't be able to do any moves! Oh Noes!

Ok that Namco guy said "online" but in the little features list it just says ad hoc?

Of course we are getting Ad Hoc, but they guy said "ONLINE" so does that mean this will have infrastructure as well? Someone please just tell me that he's lying because if this game is online I'll fucking explode into flowery gibs all over the place.

hey, there's a tunneling program for the psp, right?

and those screenshots look awesome. a little jaggy, but I was expecting that. this is pretty amazing.
It's just ad hoc online... Eseentially it is online via wifi connectivity... but it's still just ad hoc :/
You mean that as in Xlink Kai or a built in online?

oh, and you should add this to the OP so people can get info straight from Namco:

http://www.tekken-official.jp/tkdrpsp/index.html

it's also interesting to hear that all characters will have their endings... i bet the only new endings will be for AK, Lili, and Drag.

The graphics are absolutely amazing for the PSP. If this turns out to be the VF 4 Evolution equivalent for Tekken 5, then fuck the PS2 version -- I want this for sure.
http://www.tekken-official.jp/tkdrpsp/mode/index.html
they still haven't announced the mini games, so I'm looking forward to see what those are (tekken ball again would be great).
I hope the main "loading screen" is still there for shits n' giggles.

I'd love to see Tekken Ball. That crap was so much fun, and it could be even more fun with four players but I guess that's asking for much.

it's alot easyer to happen with the fact of wifi. who knows... maybe namco will be nice to everyone ;)
Tekken: Dark Resurrection for PSP will be releasing on July 6th in Japan!

Going to have to import this one! :)
namco is god...

some better info:
The new Famitsu issue has revealed some more information about Tekken's online features. While there won't be a "real" online game mode, players will be able to download "ghost character" data to their PSP, similar to racing games. They can then face off against these ghosts in a local match. Namco themselves will select the best ghost characters, and showcase them on a dedicated website. You will either download these ghosts directly from your PSP, or via PC, putting them on the Memory Stick afterwards. This kind of system has been working successfully in the arcade version of Dark Resurrection, where players can check on their character's status via a cellphone.

Dark Resurrection will arrive in the US on June 26, and on July 6 in Japan.
Not anymore chief! We get it first! ^^^^

So it's just Namco selected ghosts? I was hoping for a more VF4 style created character system. Oh well.

I don't think US will have access to the ghost and tekkennet system :(

Namco LTD is currently testing/localizing the game in San Jose.

God I hope I'm wrong too. :(

from the looks of it, I am guessing namco will probably update their official site in the next week or two... they seem to have a good habit of doing that after new info has been released in famitsu.

lol I guess I was right... they have new pics of the new intro and whatnot...

also, I think I have proof that USA will get the Network mode as well...

or at least I'm concluding that by this pic:

pic18.jpg

you can see the US clearly connected to one of the "files" in the pic :)
This game is looking fantastic, I just hope the d-pad is up to the challenge.
I know it wont be as much as a problem as most fighters since jumping and quarter circles are rare in this game. I can say for high level players it's almost a must to mod your D-Pad for this game. I plan to mod mine soon before release.

Thought I'd rebump this with my impressions/findings:

Here is some info I have compiled the recent weeks:

Requires 2.6 Firmware.

Here's my initial impressions on the game:

Tekken: Dark Resurrection(PSP) is a really good port thus far.

There are some noticeable differences and of course arcade will always be better than this version. But something is better than nothing right?

Some noticeable things:

- Cut scenes during story mode and pre fight animations and round ending animations/win poses seem to be displayed at 30 FPS.

- Network mode has less lag than before. It's good stuff this time around, the KO lag doesn't annoy anymore or leave you guessing whether you won or not.

- Game sharing and playing vs mode with 1 UMD disc is an awesome idea. The initial loading process takes awhile(about 2 minutes) but after it loads the matches are almost instantaneous(if you keep selecting rematch that is).

- There is a tutorial mode when you first boot up the game. It teaches you movement/sidestepping/and basics of gameplay pretty much. That was a good move by Namco to help cater towards people that have never played this title before.

- Endings and Intro CG sequences are amazing. Really top notch stuff from Namco yet again. My favorites being Dragunov's ending(WOW WHO IS THAT!) and Armor King's ending...(classic, pure classic).

---

All the old T5 characters have their old endings. There are however a TON of new cut scenes. Example, playing through with Devil Jin, at stage 8 you fight Asuka instead and have a nice lil' cut scene with her before another new cutscene with Jinpachi.

For the dpad attachment, I just left it on. So I'm not sure about the durability of the sticky part.

I'm just playing on default difficulty, it's about the same as US version. The only difference is the ghosts(Japanese players) in arcade/dojo mode do actual good combos.

From what I've tested so far, everything is in. It is based off of Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Ver. B that came out in the US.

---

Also, I urge everyone to play/learn from Tekken Dojo mode. At the higher levels(at least from the JPN version) the AI actually does GOOD combos that you can learn from.

Basically Tekken Dojo mode is much like the quest mode on Virtua Fighter 4 EVOLUTION. You travel from region to region in Japan and challenge ghosts modeled after actual Japanese players. There are actually some real big name players in the Tekken Dojo mode.

From time to time as you win tournaments and league matches, you'll be prompted with a new challenge. Each challenge helps you earn G$ and also earn items that you can outfit your character with.

I'm more than positive that the US version won't have all of the stuff included in the JPN release. For one thing, titles. This is pretty much a JPN exclusive feature. Much like Tekken 5(PS2) for the JPN market and Arcade, players there can purchase titles via tekkennet to add on their character. Think of it as more of a customizability.

---

This is more of an upgrade.

This was Namco's gift to the Tekken arcade team by allowing them to come out with the release. It has been in development since after Tekken 5 was released in arcades in Japan. The Tekken team, led by Haruki Suzaki, used Tekken 5.1(the free arcade upgrade) as sort of a survey/data collection of player's impressions from all over the world.

Think like Virtua Fighter 4 and Virtua Fighter 4 EVO.

The true Tekken sequel will be the next game on the PS3/ARC. By the way Tekken 6 will not be a launch title for PS3.

Namco Ltd. and Namco Arcade in Japan are not releasing it anytime soon.

---

When connecting online to DL ghost packs, there are a few messages that pops up.

The message notes about some T: DR wallpapers that you can DL for your PSP. There are also the ghosts from some actual Japanese players that you can DL.

It also prompts you to register for the world ranking portion the game. It's an online ranking system, pretty neat. There's a little disclaimer that notes to make the name you choose appropriate and not foul language etc lol.

2 UMD play definately has more lag. But you are able to change match options such as rounds/times/life handicap. You can also select stages and have ranking matches.

But that lag though, totally kills it.

It's a lot like the E3 build. Which is pretty sad.

If you use game sharing there is noticeably less lag, but longer load times between matches(when changing characters).

So there's the equivalent of VF 4 EVO's dojo here? Everytime I think I've heard everything I need to know about this game, something new pops up. That's insanely cool. I just hope that all the stuff from the Japanese version makes it over otherwise I'll have to import and wait even longer...

between this and Valkyrie Profile, I think the PSP has finally earned it's place in my heart!

Yeah, I'm starting to like the PSP more and more... it's finally where the DS was last Fall. Hopefully the system will remain strong for a few more months at least and it seems like it will with all those Capcom collections and the Metal Slug Anthology.
