RE: non-turn-based rpg rec's
Dark Cloud 2
I totally back this up. (History: I wasn't much of a gamer between the snes/genesis era and the current gen, so I missed the PS1 rpg heyday. I played some Phantasy Star as a kid, but I always thought the modern rpgs were overwhelming and too complicated for me.) However I adored this game like no other. It's not overly action-y (fighting is guard, circle, strike, repeat) but beating creatures with your weapon feels incredibly satisfying and never got boring for me. And the town-building is fun and it's soo much more attractive than the first game. If you haven't OP, PLAY IT! /geekout

Did Persona 1 jump up in price lately? I have a disc + manual (not in original case) copy which I can apparently complete by ordering the insert from Atlus' site. I could have sworn that last I checked the thing was only going for $10 on ebay, so I'd never felt particularly rushed.

Maybe I should send Atlus an order for a Persona insert and the Tactics Ogre insert and manual...
I know this is the wrong thread to ask in but it seems like there's alot of RPG fanatics here this morning. Is there any RPG you can recommend that doesnt have a turn based battle system? Or if it does .. feel free to recommend one that you think is so good that even someone that doesnt like turn based would enjoy. It doesnt matter what system. I have most of them and I have a strong hankerin' to play a really good RPG.
Tales of Symphonia for GC, open 3-D battle system, best RPG I've played in a while. Managed to play it through twice (~ 150 hours) before needing a break.

Has BG&E for GC been on the site at all lately? I don't really wanna pay $15 for it at Gamestop, and thats the only place I've seen it.
I got a good PS1 haul this morning:
X-Com UFO Defense
Kartia
Tail of the Sun
R-Type Delta

Grand total: $20.76
GODDAM NEWBIES. I've been looking for tail of the sun for the better part of a year.... ;)

33 bucks shipped and complete
The uncertainty of its completeness scares off some people. The one I bought 2 weeks ago was complete, but I'm uneasy about buying another one to resell. I'd lose my rear from a disc only and not have a right of return.

Because sooooo many peoples backorders got cancelled, I checked my King Of Fighters EX2 Howling Blood backorder..... Cancelled. All I have to say is bleh on them for not informing me about it after their customer service representative kept apologizing to me last week about sending the wrong game out. At least they sent me a post paid envelope which I will keep to mail something else out USPS Priority (yes I am an ultimate cheap ass!)

your going to need a double cd case since persona came in a double case. I just dumped off a persona 1 with case (no book ) for 22 bucks. I gave up looking for the book and took 22 for the game.

i just ordered from atlus 2 tactics orge inserts and manuals 1 orgebattle manual. cost 14 bucks. thinking about sending in another 2 bucks for a orgebattle insert, but i have no idea where i can get double cases

Don't know the conversation, but i must add to this. Dark Cloud 2 is one of the best and most overlooked games of this generation of consoles.

I completely agree. Whenever I saw the original Dark Cloud I would think, "That looks kinda cool - I should try that," but I never got around to it. Then Dark Cloud 2 came out, I read a bit more about Factor 5, and I decided to pick both up. DC is nice, but DC2 is by far one of the best RPGs of this generation.

If you see it for < $20, buy it.

Of all RPGs released this generation, I've sank more time into DC2 than any other - easily 120 hours. It is one of the few games that I have no qualms about having paid full price. $40 at full MSRP, I think.

Great, great game.

That sounds like a fun Adults Only game :)

I prefer that EB does not fulfill backorders placed over the phone. I enjoy the game that occurs every morning when the update occurs and that would make me feel as if I were cheating.

some people do not have the time to do that. so the only way they can get games if they lucked out in a morning update and they call about the backorder. I think its fine if they don't put "everyone" on a backorder list (up to 5 would be it)

i wonder if anyone ever called up eb. Yes i would like to place and order for everyone of your games you have on backorder : )

they do fill phone orders i got Rhapsody A Musical Adventure shipped on backorder

Dark Cloud 2 would be a great example of why I don't need to get a Xbox 360 or PS3 at launch.

I liked the demo I played that they mailed out. I got the player's guide for a penny and bought the game for $5 during the CC sale (summer 2004) but still haven't opened it.

If DC2 escapes my play why get a new sys when the only advantage (initially) will be "coolness" and graphics?

Rather than regretting overpaying for the new systems (and games) I'm going to try to wait.

I too haven't touched Dark Cloud 2 since buying it at the $5 CC sale. I've played a bit of the original Dark Cloud but wasn't impressed. Still, I'm surprised at the glowing commentary the sequel is receiving.

There were a few copies of BG&E for GC about 2 weeks ago. $9.99 b/c, ~$9.02 a/c + tax. I snagged a copy and would be pretty satisfied with its condition if it weren't for the gazillion label stickers on both front and back. The small ones came off well, but I've still have to work on the enormous circular EB preowned sticker...

Anyone know where to get a brand new single disc GC case?

update on phone backorder.

It seems eb got an email that a lot of there RARER games they will not be getting anymore copies. They were cleaning out wherehouses and coming across these games is what they told me. What you seen on the webpage was the last of the games Probally. The cancelled everyones backorders yesterday (that is why my order got canned on the sulk 2) the person i talked to said they are not going to allow anymore back orders though the phone lines due the the fact they probally wont get any of those games back in again. im going to call them back up after work (around 5pm est) to see if i can get a different worker and see if they say the same thing (about how they got the email about a lot of their games wont be back in) . not really going to reorder anything. I blew way too much freaking money this past month

found out they cancelled my Orgebattle 64 backorder as well as the sulk 2.

if this is all true then i guess i get to sleep in the mornings soon since all i was after in the early updates was Ps1 rpgs .. I will post again if i hear anything new

First day in a long time I check the update, and someone steals Cannon Spike and Mars Matrix from my cart as I type in my credit card number.......

There's always tomorrow :)

EDIT: Fatal Fury today AND Bangai-O a couple of days ago!

Where'd all these good DC games come from all of a sudden???

you did however pick up a lot of great games in your run though.. don't feel too disappointed.. they are rare for a reason..

i wish you good luck on your quest.

How much was Tail of the Sun going for? I had this game about 6 or 7 years ago and took it back. Just wondering how much it's worth.

i post that cause i had a few pms asking how did i get a backorder cause eb isnt allowing them to do it when they call . Im not disappointed at all

I wish Sony and Microsoft would offer empty cases as well.

Anyone know where to get official PS2 (black) and xbox (green and silver) cases?

man i just got my Stuff from ebgames today. It looked like Xmas in a way with all the packages

first

hot shot golf 2... going back disc really badly scratched

koudelka ps1 going back disc 2-4 perfect Disc 1 wont boot up badly scratch

bridandine ps1 like said before going back (though they are very good shape i mean no scraches to few)

keeping

vanguard bandits -- MINT

rhapsody a musical adventure ps1 MINT no scratches & it came with the music CD

SADLY ALL CAME DISC ONLY NO BOOK OR BOXES

i think i will just go back to gamestop and pick up Koudelka for 13 with box and no book then pay 12 for Nothing .

and

Orge battle Game only
Tactics orge Game only

both going back way too much to pay for disc only and some light scraches on the disc ( tactics wont boot either)

ON THE OTHER HAND

i got my buy one 29.99 higher and get 1 29.99 lower for gamestop

Monster rancher 4 and Glowlancer generations BOTH CAME COMPLETE for total of 37.00 shipped

im starting to like gamestop more and staring to dislike eb

In my experience I have found gamestop has better stock of new 'rare' games. They also take better care of their used games (just in my experience!).

The best thing about ebgames is SAVER, CAG15 and my edge card! :)

I got my Thousand Arms in the mail today, and of course it was disc only. I'm not too picky about having disc only games, so I just did what I normally do and fashioned up a halfway decent case for it using coverXP and the covers over at www.cdcovers.cc

Here's a few pics of the case that I made:
(Note: The picture that I took of the back is a bit blurry, I just didn't feel like redoing it. The insert I made is fine.)

Results of my order last week...

Kartia - disc only - pretty much mint - keeper - will order extra stuff from Atlus
Hoshigami Ruining Blue Earth : Good shape, but disc only - for $19 it's going back, complete copies are only like $25-$30, and Atlus doesn't sell the instructions any more.
Saga Frontier - disc only - cracked. Nice : It's going back.

EDIT: I was mistaken. Hoshigami was the only true disc only, Kartia and my broken Saga Frontier are just missing instructions - they have the insert/back part of the case.

I wasn't aware that Hoshigami was rare. There's a mint/complete copy at my local GameStop for $14.99. I've been eyeing it forever.

I have actually had quite a bit of luck finding BG&E at BB B&M. $9.99 (which is $4.99 + tax) after using the $5 off PS2 coupon.

that is why i cancelled my hoshigmai before it shipped. i was able to get a copy with back of case for 15 bucks few months off ebay. Theres a few complete ones going for around 28 shipped now .. i have no clue why i order Kartia i have one disc only.

i think atlus does update their sites like once every 6 months so they might have those books in later, but like you said 20 bucks for disc only isnt worth it. I think Im going to give up on the Ebgames morning updates for Ps1 stuff. Tired of getting disc only games for 20-30 buck games

9 hours and 15 mins till the next Eb games update.

heres hoping they have some good PS2 stuff in, cause i think im done with ps1 game only games and i think they are getting sick of me returning the junk

That's why I won'y buy an PSOne game unless it's less than $15, it's just not worth it.

On a side notem, 4 of 13 of my orders came in, all PSOne games, all disc only :(

Order1
Puzzle Fighter 2: Pretty much mint.
Jupiter Strike: Ditto, but boy howdy is it a shitty game.

Order 2
Wild Arms 2: They didn't even have the decency to send me a whole case:( all I got was the middle black part of the double cases that are typical for PSOne RPGs. To make it even worse, it looks like it had a BB sticker pulled off it, one of those ones that cover the entire CD. It works, at least.

Order 3
Somewhat Decent condition, a couple of scratches, but being able to golf with Gex more than makes up for it. :)

According to my EB order page 6 more orders containing 8 games shipped the day after these orders came in, so if I'm lucky I'll have 6 more games to play tommorow :)

I just got Twisted Metal for PSP from them today; I had sent the previous one I bought because the plastic case was in two pieces (I took out the game to look at it's condition and it came apart in my hands). On this copy, when you flip the game over, the plastic window thingie in front falls out along with the game. Darnit!

Damn that sucks. I've never recieved a broken Item from EBGames, and I've ordered over 100 games. Must be lucky :p

Forgive me for not reading through 120 pages of this to see if this theory's been posited yet: are the games being recycled amongst a small group of people (namely CAGs)?

In other words, does slidecage order a PS1 RPG, get it in shitty condition disc only, and within several days, what appears in the morning update? Why, that very same PS1 RPG, and it sells out quickly, too! Is it even feasible that a game that rarely pops up is simply being resold online after being returned for being in such poor shape?

I don't believe Eb would pay to have the game shipped to its warehouse again.

Anyway, I think I am kinda with slidecage. I will continue to watch the update, though, just to see if any of the games are at my local/quasi-local B&Ms. Bay City and Saginaw (the other 2 of the tri-cities) are only 20-30 minutes away and I am frequently there for other reasons...but I can't exactly constantly stop in and check stock.

Course every Gamestop I call for a game, doesn't have it anymore...but the webpage still says that they have it. Must be employees hoarding.

They may not be as rare as suikoden ii, but my orders of Tactics Ogre and Ogre Battle shipped today. I'll keep buying as long as I am not backordered. I hope they haven't run out of Rez and Gitaroo Man! The SNES update seems doomed though...
