These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60.

No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Do GameStop employees check the working conditions of controllers when trading in systems? I want to trade my wii in for the wii U promo, but one of my wii motes only turns on about 25% of the time. Do I risk bringing it in, or should I just bring a fully working controller with me to cover my butt?

they didn't check my system at all... so I'd say give it a shot. maybe just bring the other one and keep it in the car or something
 
Went to GameStop to trade in some games and asked if I could have the life size NBA 2K13 display promo and the guy put my name and number on a sticker and stuck it on the back of the poster and said they would call me at the end of the month to come pick it up. The game doesn't even come out til the 2nd of October, I love GameStop. Does anyone know if those displays are worth anything because he said I could've gotten the other BL2,Madden, Dishonored etc. displays but that some other ppl have already claimed it.

Was in store and saw something about trading 2 games to pay off Borderlands 2 (Not sure if it was 30$ each, or you had to trade 2).

Got a quick glance and saw a few games like GTA4 Complete, RDR Complete, UMvC3, and quite a few others. Not sure if anyone knows the full list though

Just came in here to ask the same thing. The girl at my store said you have to trade 2 of the titles for the $30 credit. But she had a store-only copy of the list so I don't remember everything that's on it or when it ends. I remember seeing Darksiders, Portal 2, Orange Box, Mass Effect 3, AC:Revelations, and some others on there.

Base value was $50 yesterday (9/16). But I got $100 for it by purchasing a 3DS XL. It might rebound a bit now that there is not a trade-in promo for the 3DS.

As for that Wii U trade-in promo, Sweet Lou, I'd be careful because that is no longer on the site. Since their preorders are mostly sold out (at least for the Deluxe, not sure about the Basic yet) I think they pulled this promo. The guys at my GS were unable (or unwilling) to do the 3DS trade-in for my already-existing preorder a few days ago. They said they'd have to cancel it and put in an order for a basic. Of course I turned that down and just did the 3DS XL promo (which is now over) instead. But just in case the promo is still active, what it means for PUR is that you get an extra $10 in trade-in for the system. So you get $100 for the 3DS instead of $90.

From the sounds of it you get $15 for each game (not $30) and if it's 2 games from the list and put towards Borderlands 2.

some do, some don't. i went to two different gamestops, neither of them checked. i recently went to a different one to trade in a wii and they checked everything on it.

Or you can plan on going to four different GS stores. If it works 25% of the time, it's bound to work right at least once, right?

yes it is there job to check and my job as the consumer to check. but you selling a faulty product is also part of the problem

i am all for whatever you can sucker someone into buying capitalism mentality but the fatal flaw is when people lose their sense of morals and thats when capitalism tends to fall apart.

Seriously don't trade in broken shit to Gamestop. We always complain about how Poor the of condition their stuff is , yet we're trying to trade in faulty stuff. We are better than this.

Does the :360: Elder Scrolls: Oblivion 5th Anniversary Edition get treated like Oblivion GOTY? A friend of mine who collects steelbooks gave me the disks and I ended up preferring to play it on PC.

Gamestop is full of shit. I'm really sick of the scams the try to pull on consumers.

I was able to get last week's power up coupon for the extra 50% trade in credit towards ANY pre-order from their website for 3,500 points.

I go to the store yesterday and trade in about $250 dollars worth of games.

I completely pay off Assassin's creed 3 ($64), Black Ops 2 ($64), and Black Ops Vita ($53). Which adds to my list of PAYED OFF games. (Tekken Tag 2, Borderlands 2, RE6 x 2, PS Allstars Battle Royale, Sly Cooper.)

They tell me i couldn't put the remaining balance on my card for store credit and that it had to go towards a pre-order. How not i said? I've paid off 3 Pre-Orders in Full!!

They tell me i HAVE to put the money on other pre-orders.

So i say, "so now you guys are forcing me to pre-order games i don't want"? Every game i want is Bought and paid for.

They print me a list of games and tell me to choose two more games to pre-order and pay off.

I said i don't want any game off that list just give me my store credit.

They threaten to cancel the whole transaction, and since my 50% coupon is now marked through and put into the drawer i can't use it again.

So i buy another copy of Black Ops 2, Assassin's creed 3 for the vita, and two PSN network cards

The manager and clerk told me they were sorry and that they didn't want to get into trouble with (Loss Prevention) WTF? and get fired.

I can't see how putting my money on a Gamestop Giftcard equals loss...

I'm going to leave terrible feedback and call the DM

Just go back and cancel all your preorders on whoever was giving you problems. I did that once because some douche was lying to me about preorder bullshit. Unfortunately I cancelled on someone else so it wasnt as effective as it could have been but I sure felt better.

If any of the game on the list were to be released today or in the next couple of weeks you could just pick them up and return them to get your credit back.

...but I would do what ShockandAww mentioned above. :)

Not sure what the problem is... the coupon only works towards Preorders and if you have the extra credit leftover, you still need to put it towards preorders because thats what the coupon said nothing more nothing less.

I used the coupon yesterday to pay a preorder in full and the clerk made no mention of the rest having to go towards another preorder. She put the rest on the card without issue.

Most trade promos have this stipulation and are rarely enforced. This was YMMV. 90% of the time you can pre-order with $5 down and get the rest on a card. The other poster has a reason to be upset. You defending GS is kind of funny.

Exactly... The coupon which i paid for stated that i would receive 50% extra trade in value if applied towards any (Pre-Order) not Pre-Order(s).

I in fact applied $181 dollars towards preorders..3 games. And was subsequently forced to pre-order games i did not need or want.

Is it my fault i brought $250 worth of goods to trade in according to their values?

Is it my fault they don't have a $250 game i can apply all my credit towards?

Currently games cost $64 dollars and until that changes let me buy the games i want and just put the rest on my card. Forcing someone to purchase games they dont want is unethical.

I know of one manager who's done that to me twice. I don't go through with the trade if I SEE HER.

I disagree there. Go when they're working and get them to do it. Why should another employee get hammered with numerous cancellations while the dickweed still gets credit?
 
I have a quick question. I was sent a 20% off coupon for my birthday. Is that somehow tied to my PUR account or can I give it to a friend?
