These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60.

No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

I've bought and used multiple coupons from Power up rewards and used them sucessfully. You're fine. I think I redeemed and used 5 of the same deal of the week coupons before.
 
I think they're starting to make room for the Wii U. I saw in another thread someone's connection said there's about to be a massive PS2 fire sale.

Well, I finally got rid of my PS2. I just couldn't pass up $30 with no pre-order conditions.
Especially on something I haven't turned on in years. Easy to drop off policy was nice too.
 
I found a store with the new super-slim Uncharted 3 PS3 bundles and finally did the trade of my old 160GB fat system (which, interestingly enough, was the original Uncharted bundle).

Unfortunately the 1-month trial code did not work on my son's account (I guess because of his age) so I just ended up losing his locked saves. He isn't happy about it, but maybe I'll preorder NBA 2K13 for him to make up for it (normally I'd wait till it was $30 or so to buy it).

So on the receipt it shows that I got $135 for that system. That is the "guaranteed" value (ending today, 9/30) of any PS3 for $125 plus $10 for purchasing the new system. Under the bonus section it says "Bonus: $45.00 Promo #13840" so I'm guessing the base value of the 160GB (fat) PS3 is $90, then? Or it might be $80 since the extra $10 got added on top of the $125, which was itself a promo price. So this is one of those cases where the promos stacked, or they were linked, or something. Still, I'd lean towards it being $90 base which is interesting since that is an increase of $20 from the last reported value from way back in March.

And once again, I failed to bring in the worst of my Dual Shock 3 controllers - that makes 3 I've traded in and each time I seem to not bring the worst one (still works fine, it is just the most worn out looking). Oh well...

So the trade-in covered half the value of the new system. So for $135 more in GS credit, I get to upgrade a slightly used controller to new, get 90GB more of HD space (the other one was full and my son wanted more of the PS+ games to play so that is a significant bump in storage), and I get the Uncharted 3 GotY Edition plus the Dust 514 code. I'll probably sell the UC3 GotY since I have the regular one and as I understand it the extra stuff is all for multiplayer. So hopefully that brings my cost down to around $100 which is worth it for the controller refresh, the extra space, hopefully less chance of a failing system (or a new 1 year warranty at the least), and the smaller, less heat-producing system (the room it is in gets very hot during the day, especially with that old furnace of a fat system running in there).

You cannot change the birthdate. I would have done that a long time ago for both my boys since they can't play any EA games online (even E-rated ones) because of age restrictions - on both PS3 and 360.
 
Will someone be kind enough to answer this for me,on gamestop's powereward site they have a coupon for 50% extra trade in credit towards select games but blops 2 isn't on that list would it be possible to preorder one of the games on that list and later on transfer that credit towards blops 2 without losing any credit?
 
Does anyone no what the trade 2 for 40 is about just noticed it on the website and usually it tells u whats exepted but just says only limited games? Thank you

4GB Slim 360 - $75
250GB Slim HDD - $40
Core 360 w/ Wireless - $55

Though those could change by tomorrow for the double value
 
I saw Call of Duty Modern Warfere 3 for Wii for $17.95 from a seller on Amazon. With shipping and tax, it came out to be $22 something. Gonna flip that and SR3 when the arrive.

Would some kind soul who is in trading a system for the double promo please ask what the 160GB PS3 (fat system) gets? I'd call but since I just did that trade yesterday for their "guaranteed" $125 value I might get pretty angry if I hear that it is still $80-$90 base.

Damn, that means my 160GB fat system is probably the same - it seemed to be $90 base from the receipt I got yesterday anyway. I got $135 for it so I got screwed out of $45 by taking advantage of their last promo. I even rushed to a far away store before they closed Sunday since my local one didn't have the new super-slim bundles in that I wanted to replace it with.

I was able to go back to the store and have them adjust my trade to get the difference between today's promo and yesterday's credited back. That came up to a whopping $45! I used that to preorder NBA 2K13 both as a treat for my son (who lost his locked game saves on the old PS3) and as a bonus for the clerk that helped me with the adjustment.

What he did (at the manager's suggestion) was to sell me back my PS3 at a discounted price of $135 (which is what I got for it yesterday). He rang it up with an override discount of $84.99 (which means they are selling the used 160GB fat system for $219.99 which is a pretty small profit off the current promo trade-in value of $180). Then, on the same receipt, he traded it in again for the current $180 promo value. He tried to get me the extra $10 for the super-slim purchase (a promo that stacked with the $125 value yesterday) by ringing that up, too, but it did not stack this time.

So it all worked out in the end even though I had to make an extra 30 mile trip back to this store and I lost my son's locked saves (had I known the promo would work this way I would have bought the super-slim yesterday, did a proper transfer with Ethernet cable thus preserving his saves, then traded my old system in today). But thinking about it, I should get some extra bonus PUR points out of this. According to my receipts, it looks like have traded 2 PS3's in, and bought a used system in addition to the new one. I'll have to see how that plays out when the points show up.

I am very much relieved now. It would have bugged me to no end had I not been able to take care of that. That would have hurt down to my cheapass soul ;).

Yeah, the reason for selling it back to me and then trading it right back in again was to keep their inventory correct while issuing me the difference.

Like mine who sells me new games at used prices, gets any item I want transferred to his store, lets me do return/rebuys when running a store specific B2G1, etc.

Yeah, I don't know if this is a good thing or not, but this manager has been an EB/GS manager for as long as I've been going to Gamestop - that would be the entire "modern era" of my video gaming life (since about 2004 or so when I got back into it after my early Atari/Colecovision days). So he ought to know a thing or two about how to use the system ;). I don't know if anyone remembers the Gran Turismo 4 trade-in promo they had way back when. I forget the exact details but basically you could trade in 2 (I think) crappy PS2 games for a brand new (at the time) GT4. This guy was the manager of an EB Games store and processed that trade both for me and my wife. His store is not local to me and I don't go there all that often but he still remembers me by name all these years later. It is quite remarkable, actually. I had only gone over there because my local store didn't have the super-slims in stock yet. It is probably a good thing because while the guys at my local store are nice enough, they pretty mcuh throw their hands up when it comes to dealing with promo issues and the like. I'm sure they would have told me I was out of luck.

Yes, and I more than made up for that with my son by preordering NBA 2K13 for him ;).

JP - I added the $90 value for the 160GB fat and $95 value for 160GB slim (from the other thread) into the PS3 hardware section with today's date. There are a lot more hardware quotes in that other thread. I'd shut it down and direct everyone here but people tend to get a little pissed when stuff like that happens. The deal is good enough to have its own thread for a few days at least, anyway - then maybe I'll move it over here. Maybe I'll cull the rest of the values out of that thread later tonight and post them here.
