Playstation 3D Display $199.99 at GameStop & Best Buy

CAGiversary!

Best Buy

Edit 5: Seems Best Buy is back in stock, Newegg is now $249.

Edit 4: [damn this thread won't die!] Newegg is now @ $199 [free ship, not tax for most, also Shoprunner eligible] Best Buy still has it @ $199 but it is back-ordered on .com, check for stock in store. Thanks to TheTruth1983 [that you Paul?] for the Newegg info!

EDIT 3: Now dead at Best Buy, YMMV Price Match?

EDIT 2: This does not include the extra glasses/MLB bundle at either location. Just the monitor, 1 pair of glasses, and Motorstorm Apocalypse. Thank you to all the posting Caggers for the updates!

Ok, Don't kill the messenger, this is just a kindly FYI service, the Playstation 3D display/bundle [what ever they have in stock] will be $199 next week.

Buy 4 and use them to prop up your bed for extra storage :bouncy:

EDIT:
I will just add this bit of information, though we will not be able to confirm it until the 27th. When I was talking to the GS employee who told me about this sale last week; he indicated that GS was "clearing out" the stock on hand and that what ever stock/bundle he had was going to be $199. Again, I CANNOT CONFIRM THIS. However, I will be in that store Wednesday morning just in case the bundles [with extra games/glasses] are $199.

Got the display 2 days ago and so fair so good. I got it from Gamestop only because I didn't know till the last minute that Best Buy had it for the same price. The box it comes in was a little surprising. It's thin with a sleeve over a white box. Heavier than I thought it was when i picked it up. Out of the box, everything was good. The game was there along with the glasses and power cable. After removing the protecting cover (white foamy cover that every TV comes with) I notice a few fingerprints on the screen. I thought I was sold a used TV but I figured Gamestop could have opened it for whatever reason or it was just shipped like that. I just wiped it off and continued the setup. Everything plugged in nicely and then i started the hunt for the buttons. The buttons are behind the TV towards the right side. These buttons are not easily accessible. One thing I did was turned it around and took a picture with my phone so i can blind press them when i needed to. From what I remember the inputs are 2 HDMI's one headphone jack and a component. I'm just using this for a secondary station for the bedroom.

For the picture quality, it looks as good and as smooth as my plasma screen. Every game I've played so far looks vivid and bright with a lot of pop. I'm very pleased with the picture. And for the 3D, it's good but dark. I own a LG passive 3D TV for my living room and I thought the picture was a little dark on that but on this active screen, it's much more darker.

For the price I would consider the TV a keeper; Now just to see how long it'll last.

PS I forgot to mention the glasses. They feel sturdy and well built. They are tight around the head and a little more uncomfortable than the passive glasses. They come in a box, in a bag with a USB wire (shocker for Sony to include a wire). They charged in less than a few minutes.
I finally gave in and picked one up at the West Madison, WI Best Buy over lunch.

I'm really anxious to give it a try with 3DTV Play for Nvidia as well. I have more than a few PC games that I'd like to see in 3D as well. Now I just need to clear space on my desk for the monitor.... damnit.
This display is not supported by nvidia for 3D.

Youre gonna have to modify some INF files to get it to work, and I guess it locks it at certain refresh rates or something of the like.

Exactly. Although, I just tried the 3D Vision demo and it worked...to my surprise. So, there might be some hope after all, but who knows. This thing looks gorgeous! :applause:

Great, I just witnessed my new display give me the blank screen issue. Only happened once so far. All Bestbuy stores in my area are showing out of stock so I probably can't even get this one exchanged :(
By the way, for those with an NVidia card, I found the following site to be helpful when setting up 3D for gaming http://forums.redflagdeals.com/nvidia-3dtv-play-mod-sony-playstation-3d-display-1175972/. I've tested it successfully with Diablo III which is great in 3D. You still have to download the 3DTV Play trial (14 days).

I have a GTX 670 and I don't believe the 3D function will work...kind of the reason I held out for so long. It still looks amazing as a monitor though. I compared prices online for the same specs, and this monitor was easily cheaper by about $50. Just a heads up!
I was able to get it working with my NVidia GTX 560 using the site I posted above. It worked great for me on Diablo III.

Did anyone make a purchase when the initial link went live at Gamestop? I ordered at 10:30pm pst the night before and was able to lock in the bundle with the extra pair of glasses and game, but was wondering if anyone else saw this or received yet? Thanks

Just used this Playstation Display and my NVidia card to start play Walking Dead in 3D. Very impressed.

Hmm I think I'm doing something wrong. I initially enabled and calibrated the 3D Vision before installing the .inf file and 3D Vision driver. I followed the steps exactly as stated in the article you posted, but it still not showing as the 3DTV in the Nvidia Control Panel. Any ideas? Thanks for posting it by the way!

My friend brought his alienware laptop and we hooked it up with the tv. When we were playing battlefield I was amazed by the picture, I really want to keep this now for when I get my new computer.
Was pleasantly surprised to be able to use my universal remote on it, it is a Sony branded one but just a standard one, doesn't work on a ps3.
Are you able to turn it on and adjust volume with it? If so... I need that remote! ha

Display = IR
PS3 = Bluetooth
Looks like this will be the last run for this display? Don't think it can go $150 now right.
I think its going to be very slim pickings at the $150 mark, however with the game trade in its roughly $175 @ BestBuy.
Display = IR

Yeah I know that part, was just nice to be able to use a remote I had sitting around already.

FWIW, I get the black screen problems that everyone else is describing (goes black for a few seconds occasionally), but on my regular TV, and only if I use a certain HDMI cable. Switching HDMI cables fixes it. Granted, there's been enough reports of it with this monitor that is probably is an issue with some of these monitors, but a faulty HDMI cable can result in the exact same problem.
How is this for watching tv on? I will be using this as my main tv in college.
I don't think you can watch tv on it. Only game.
I don't think you can watch tv on it. Only game.
Yes, you can plug it in to a cable box or dvr box and watch it as long as what you're plugging it into has component or hdmi hookups.
I don't think you can watch tv on it. Only game.
There's no tuner, so you can't watch anything straight off a coax (which I guess could be a problem in a dorm?). HDMI out from any cable or satellite box, though, will work just fine.
So overall how is this screen for pc gaming? Thinking about buying one while my best buys still have some.
It's amazing. I went from an old Acer 21'' LCD 1080p to this, and it blows it out of the water visually. I highly recommend it if you're using an older model monitor.
Honestly if you're worried about price this is probably a better option.

It's reviews say the sound quality is horrible, so that is something to consider, but the built in TV tuner means no need for additional box. You'll lose the DVR functionality so it all depends on how much extra you'll have to pay per month.
Hmm... but you don't see 3D on that one.
No defects so far.
I think it may be too early to tell. Most users in the forums say it will show its defect after at least 1-2 weeks of usage.

Have you bought the ext. warranty with it?

I read that since Sony will replace it anyway within 1 year, perhaps no need for ext. warranty.

It is after the swapped with Sony, they will fix whatever that was defective (blank screen) and you may not need to worry about it anymore.

Usually monitor will last very long time..

Perhaps Sony will come out with the OLED of this monitor after PS4 launch.

Have you rebooted the PC? It showed right away with me after a reboot. Also, what version of NVidia Control Panel are you using? I am at 4.3.790 and it works great so far.

Yep multiple times actually. It's showing as a Denon monitor in the Nvidia Control Panel, which is weird. I'm using version 4.4.730.
Yep multiple times actually. It's showing as a Denon monitor in the Nvidia Control Panel, which is weird. I'm not sure what version I'm using...I guess the newest one that comes with the newest drivers, which is 301.xx.
Mine shows as Denon in the NVidia control panel as well but as NVidia Unsupported 3DTV in the computer's device manager. After turning on Stereoscopic 3D, you have to change the resolution in the NVidia Control Panel to 720p, 1280x720 under HD 3D. Have you done this?

If anyone has Comcast, the HD/DVR remote works, code 11100 I think it was. Found it on YouTube if that's wrong.

I got the 3DTV Play software working with older drivers.

Has anyone got it working on the newer drivers as well after an update?

Thanks
Are you able to turn it on and adjust volume with it? If so... I need that remote! ha
I have access to everything, model # is RM-VZ320. Controls up to 7 devices, picked it up @ BestBuy maybe 3 months ago tops for an LG bluray player. On a side just watched Advent Children and WOW!! is all I can say, I'm stunned by the image quality. Also unlike every other monitor I've had, this doesn't give you that horrible fade when your out of the "proper viewing angles". This kicks the crap out of my Samsung PX2370 and that monitor is awesome too. BTW I don't use this with a PC, before I get the nay sayers.

Edit: This remote has 3x the RF signal strength, so you can control the monitor from just about anywhere in the room, without a direct line of sight. I had to aim it in the most retarded ways to get it not to work.

I have not! Thank you! I'll give a shot now and restart it. Hopefully that gets it done. *Crosses fingers.

Edit: Darn! No luck. I was able to successfully change the resolution to the 720p 3D one, but games (Diablo III and Battlefield 2) did not show in 3D. What's even more weird is that under the Enable Stereoscopic 3D section (which is enabled), it shows as "HDMI Blu-Ray 3D" under the Stereoscopic 3D display type, but the article/forum post shows it as something different. I think that's where I'm going wrong.

Also, I'm using the latest drivers in anybody is interested. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

My Dec $300 w/BB 4yr ext warranty also just (rarely but evident) momentarily goes black. Thought I was lucky but no further. Will ride it out for replacement and/or one time glasses replacement.

I use the packaged Sony HDMI w/ether cable so the culprit must be a power issue like so many.
I was using the .inf.

I should have been more clear. Has anyone updated their Nvidia drivers and had everything still work correctly. The new drivers have some decent enhancements in framerates for newer games.
My bad. I ended up updating the drivers and ran into the problem of not being able to get 3DTV Play to be recognized within the NVidia control panel. Because I enjoyed playing Walking Dead in 3D, I installed the 296.10 driver which works fine.
Is it common for people to not have cable boxes? I don't know anyone that doesn't have one, but it seems to be a common question.
Sure, poor people who don't have cable, or people with netflix/etc who don't want to pay for cable.

Awsome timing for this deal! I just started building a pc and was in need of a monitor, and this will be perfect! I was able to grab the last one at my local BBY (Nashville west).

On another note,
Is it common for people to not have cable boxes? I don't know anyone that doesn't have one, but it seems to be a common question.
I was thinking the same thing, then I talked to a buddy of mine who lives on campus at UNF in a dorm and he said they dont offer cable boxes. If you want to watch tv then you have to have a set with a built in tuner.

Lots of college provided housing has built in analog cable. I also have a setup on my computer with a cablecard instead of a cable box. I wouldn't say common but i'd say it's more common in colleges with already built infrastructure.

My parents' cable company actually just got rid of all of their cable boxes in the entire county. I live in an apartment complex right now, and I don't have one either. I actually assumed they were becoming less common, not more common.

There are several in stock at the gamestops near me. Thinking about picking one up next week. Can I expect this deal to extend into next week?

Another 24" TV/Monitor that just came out is the Samsung T24A350B. It is 1080p with 2 HDMIs. It has a tuner. This may be good for those looking for ATSC tuner for over the air HDTV. I think this is also good for PS3 gaming (non-3D). Also, it can be used as PC monitor (via VGA input). Much better sound quality than the Target's Sceptre.

This kind of pisses me off, I would have loved to have this instead of my monitor I ended up buying used off Ebay... Oh well. It's waaaaaaaaaaay too small to use for anything else though or I'd consider getting it as a bedroom TV.
Sure, poor people who don't have cable, or people with netflix/etc who don't want to pay for cable.
Not just these categories. It used to be you could have cable without a box (with our local monopoly cableco.) unless you wanted plus (like G4) or premium (like HBO) channels. At that point, basic and extended cable was all analog.

Then extended cable went digital, so you needed a cable box if you had an analog tuner TV, but could still get by without one if you had a digital tuner TV. Then they encrypted most of the extended cable channels, so you now have to have a box (or a CableCARD and compatible device) to get anything but a very limited set of channels.

Haha, yeah what is he like 12? Unless you had certain premium channels you didn't NEED a box until recently.

It's all about them getting more money anyway. There's no reason why we shouldn't be able to receive digital HD channels through a cable on a DIGITAL tv without a box when I can receive them over the air with an antenna. They just want us to either rent or buy cable boxes.

The Marvel movies all have decent 3D, better than most post production 2D -> 3D conversions. IMAX 3D stuff has great 3D effects, but the movies are all short and boring.
