PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

Project Morpheus is coming out the first half of 2016. It is updated to OLED display with 1920x1080 resolution and 120hz refresh rate. Framerate options are between 60fps and 120fps.

Ign also posted an article with hands on impressions. I'm very excited for Morpheus but it really depends on the launch price. If priced right Playstation could be moving towards a very different future.

Also the new DLC for Wolfenstein looks really great.

And MGS5 releases 9-1-15.

I'm really anticipating these games: Wild, Everyone Has Gone to Rapture, Rime, No Mans Sky, The Forest, & What Remains of Edith Fitch. Hopefully by E3 most games at least have release dates.

Also has anyone seen the info about what's included in the Heist Update with GTA? Looks really awesome. I can't wait to chase cyclists with a semi.

I would love to own this, but two questions.  Does it have a premium price tag and does it include the game in the bundle?  Slick looking PS4 no matter what.

Just seen the teaser trailer for the game "Hunger", from the developer that made LBP Vita. It looks like something I would enjoy, and it has sort of a Limbo feel. Playstation Exclusive, I'd imagine. Anyone else see it yet? Not sure how to post videos on here from my ipad but check it out.

If they aren't included with today's store update, then yeah, that would be a problem, but not announcing them ahead of time isn't a big deal to most people. In an average month, I would guess most people don't even know what the games are until they are actually available to download. Some people are blowing this way out of proportion.

Also, PS4 is finally getting the HBO GO app today!
Doesn't work for Comcast subscribers wtf. Get your head out of your ass Comcast/Sony.
I don't think it has much do with sony as it does with Comcast
Fixed that for you. OnDemand applications don't work for a lot of applications with Comcast anymore. Comedy Central app? Nope.

From what I've read, it has to do with contract disputes.

Comcast sucks. Always has, always will. My wifi *I have the highest-speed they offer* was at a standstill to the point it took 2 hours to download one song on iTunes, and when I called customer service they tried telling me that I wasn't paying for wireless internet access.

I actually miss my comcast internet. Ever since we switched to DirectV, we have to have Frontier, and it's absolutely terrible. Like 2-4MBPS download speeds. Thinking about switching back to Comcast , and I think the X1 interface is pretty sweet used it at a friends house. I will say I love the DLNA features built into the DirecTV boxes.

That's one of the big issues with Comcast: lack of competition. They know they can pull all kinds of crap and get away with it because their customers either can't go anywhere else, or the competition can't compete with main features. Pretty much a monopoly.

thought the same as you, until I was told you have to have phone to be eligible for the X1, and no matter the cost I am not getting a landline...

I just left Comcast fully for Directv, still had Comcast internet... but two months ago Century link came into our neighborhood and installed new internet lines for 20 MBPS speeds, they also were only charging $28 a month for Internet guaranteed for a year, no contract, and I can call after the year to get the same rate. They also took $10 extra off my Directv bill, so right now I am paying $80 for decent internet, and Directv which I love.

This. They will never give you a lower cost plan either unless you talk to retention about cancelling service...Even then they will most likely offer you the last price you had. Every plan change is only for an upsale.

I also noticed that their telephone system automatically boots you if you have been a customer in the last 120 days and cancelled service. It will not let you talk to a representative in any department.

Of course I now have comcast internet again because I am paying 19.99 for a basic 3 mbps service (I own my modem). The alternative, AT&T would be a required landline for 14.99 and internet service for 14.99.

I don't think it has much do with sony as it does with Hbo/comcast
I haven't tried HBO Go on the X1 but I'm pretty sure Comcast is supported on the Xbox systems. So to me, it just seems that Sony is the one that's not willing to bend on how much Comcast shares in their HBO Go subscription revenue or at least some sort of app fee if it's not related to the former. It's possible Comcast is just being the stick in the mud when it comes to HBO Go and MS is just willing to accept pennies on the dollar while Sony doesn't want to settle, but it's just really frustrating that guys like me get screwed just because I happen to use Comcast and Sony products.

Looks like suspend/resume is finally coming in the next FW update according to leaks. There will also be a preview program for beta testing new updates. Nice.

Lord Im hoping we get some organization/pin options, friend login notifications, and the ability to delete shit from the library.

You already can suspend/resume. On the download screen, highlight something downloading and press X and it'll pause it
Que? With Suspend/Resume you can now enter rest mode but the game you were playing wont close so next time you boot up it will still be open and you can continue right where you left off.

 • HBO Now
 • Playstation Vue
^Those 2 future services could actually help steal customers from Comcast.

Oh my bad, I thought it meant while downloading.

Yeah this one sounds like a good update. Still more to be done but this one's a step in the right direction:

suspend/resume is one of the best 'next gen features' ...can't believe it took so long for you guys to get it. It's great for short gaming sessions  since you can bypass all the start-up logo's and loading screens.

I don't even think the Xbox One has Suspend/Resume like this. They said you can play a game goto Rest Mode, come back hours later, turn on ps4 and continue the game right where you left off.

Xbox has had that since day one. It's really great for games like Dying Light.

Really? I have an Xbox one and everyone my kids play mine craft and goto tv then back to minecraft they have to boot it up again. Maybe their doing something wrong? I have my Xbox one set to allow me to turn it on by voice and such, so isn't it in the same as rest mode?

Depends on the game.
Well that makes sense, since I only have exclusives for the Xbox, besides Minecraft.

Posted this in the GTA Thread but since most people don't look there.
Anyone planning on playing Heists when they come to GTA? I'd like to find a group to play with.

Here's the signup for the PlayStation MVP program, maybe you'll get lucky and get beta invites for future updates.

Im glad its finally coming after the long wait. Second best next gen feature behind Shareplay if it works as advertised.

By "go to tv", do you mean they switch to the tv app on the xbox one or do you mean they shut off the system and switch inputs to tv?

If your xbox is set to "instant on", it should boot right back into the last game you were playing. Make sure that setting is turned on.

Check system settings. It's under "Power and Startup" unless they moved it. You should have the check box checked for the option that says "resume games quickly".

TV app, my direcTV box runs through the Xbox.

I'm not seeing any mention of pins or folders anywhere as far as leaks go. :whistle2:(

Yea, I'm a huge playstation fan, but I can never seem to take the time to fill it out. Post back if you get into the beta.
I filled it out, it didn't take that long. Im not expecting to get in this beta but Im hoping I get invited to future ones.

Still no MP4 or avi support....
Yeah it's kinda sad when my chromecast that i paid $30 for and came with $20 or so in credit for google play is a better media device than my $400 ps4. Heck even my ps3 has better media support. Gotta say if i was going to buy a second ps4 or second xbox one i would grab a a second xbox one just because it can be used as an allcast receiver. And just a psa the hd i used in my ps4 is on sale for $40 after rebate which is a great deal assuming rebate comes through http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?sdtid=7713567&EdpNo=9659770&SRCCODE=LINKSHARE&cm_mmc_o=-ddCjC1bELltzywCjC-d2CjCdwwp&utm_source=Linkshare&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=lw9MynSeamY&AffiliateID=lw9MynSeamY-1eHvgLeUOqdhpcnLsJsB1A

I personally find it kinda sad that so many of you guys have contributed to making these consoles into multimedia boxes the industry standard. I mean, I get that some people like it and it can be useful, but they're GAMING consoles. You know what I use my PS4 for? Playing games and watching the occasional Blu.

You kinda have to wonder how much these companies could put back into the gaming side of things if they weren't constantly scrambling to add in all these (mostly)useless features just to keep up with consumer demand that is the vocal minority. Sometimes I miss the simplicity of days past. /rant.

So it's sad to want something that is connected to my tv to do you know tv related stuff? I don't want a million things connected to my tv that do duplicate functions. I put up with gaming consoles because I like to play games. I watch tv once a week or so just for sports otherwise all my video watching comes through netflix/hulu and stuff like it. Heck the second I can watch my local teams games through internet based services i'm packing up my cable box and telling them to fuck off. In the perfect world for me I wouldn't even have anything connected to my tv at all just have everything built into the tv. But, smart tvs are pretty garbage right now

That might make sense if there was an onslaught of games coming out, but there isn't. Have family or anyone else in your household? Then media features are useful.

It's not like media features are exactly hard to develop, or truly take away from gaming.

Relax guys, noticed how I prefaced my whole statement with "I personally think"?

Just reminiscing on the days when you slapped a game in a system and automatically started playing without all the fluff and added BS... I get why people like these other things, they just aren't for me or my family.

But you still can do that. And more.
