PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

8bit let me ask you this if rolls were reversed and ps4 was priced 500 bucks and forced to buy a camera would you stick up for sony and have purchsed a ps4 at that price or would want xbox one for 400 bucks?

my guess would be yes because you are a sony fan and enjoy their games. I'm sure you would also defend it left and right because it's something you enjoy and think it gets bad name for no reason
if sony tried to pull the same shit MS tried to pull, i wouldnt have bought either. i dont like halo, gears or forza, so i have no need to buy an xbox. plus the whole rrod fiasco, having to pay to play online and disliking the controller.

i bought my ps3 and bioshock 1 for $200 at gamestop in 2009(check my trophy card) when they were running a promotion to trade in your ps2 towards a ps3. my ps2 was just sitting there so i thought why not. my ps2 ran perfectly for 9 years and my phat 60gb ps3 is still running strong after 5 years and literally 1000's of hours.

you can assume all you want and call me a fanboy. im not, sony product and their games have just appealed to me the most and have been incredibly reliable. plus PS+ is the best deal any company is offering right now. nintendo lost me after the wii, although i still play my nes and snes on a weekly basis. microsoft never appealed to me and probably never will.

there wouldnt be any arguing in this thread if you werent posting bullshit 80% of the time.

Gotta admit, it makes me a little warm and fuzzy inside every time I come in this thread and timbo is getting all butthurt over the fact that xbone sales are bad, titanfall is not next gen (900p is not next gen), etc.

Let me see if I can answer Timbo a little better. I was a 360 guy last gen, before that I was all PS2. I am the consumer that speaks with my wallet based on value. I had a PS3 and loved the games, but the experience was not there. Not to mention I wanted to adopt PS3 when it was released but they alienated me with the pricing from the get go. I wanted to go with Xbox after the great experience I had on 360, but then all their announcements came out and then Sony's and Sony catered to my every want and need and I made my mind up then. Even when they reversed their DRM and such, they didn't fix price and I could care less about kinect.

If the roles were reversed and Sony priced higher and forced me to have a camera, then Xbox One would have been my choice. I can tell you that I speak for the big majority of gamers with my actions, and I believe it is showing with sales now. Sony is 100% making a games driven system that caters to gamers. Microsoft made it a point that they are making a multimedia device. As far as I am concerned the PS4 is the only true gaming only console this generation.

Titanfall looks fun, everyone says they are having fun, but no one is saying it looks incredible. It is because of that, it doesn't matter what you get it for because it will be the same experience. Microsoft made the error, you want to sell consoles based on a game, then sell a game everyone wants and make it exclusive to a specific platform. I have seen screenshots for the game on all platforms and they look nearly identical. Just a few more details in the XB1 version, which make no difference to the player when so much is going on. Titanfall will be a top selling game, but not a system mover.

Sony goes out, buys publishers and gives them the financial backing needed to develop great games. They then sit back and let the developers create whatever they want. It is why so many great first party games have come out. It is documented several times that Sony's relationship with it's studios is some of the best out there! Go look at the Kaz documentary, or the history of Naughty Dog on IGN. Sony got those games because they were the only company willing to let people do their jobs without interfering.

Yep. This was exactly the situation for me for the most part. The only exception is MS alienated me eariler with terrible customer service when my Live account got hacked (see my 2 CAG blog posts) and by focusing on Kinect and releasing hardly any worthwhile exclusives for core gamers after Gears 3.

I ended up getting a PS3 during that hacking debacle, and it became my main platform from then on as I found Sony just had a much better library of exclusives and PS+ is a great value and has given me access to a ton of great games for minimal cost. It's a big part of why I haven't taken the next gen plunge yet. There's just no reason to with so much to play on PS+ and having a decent backlog for that on PS3 and Vita, as well as stuff to play on 3DS and Wii U.

But otherwise, I'm not loyal to any company. I vote with my wallet and support the platforms that have the types of games and experiences I want. 8bit and 16bit generation I was a kid so could only have one console, and we had NES and SNES. Then I was obviously a pretty big Nintendo fan, so I went N64 the next go around, but eventually got a PS1 too. But I definitely played the N64 more.

The next gen I got a GC first, but ended up playing the PS2 most. Also got an Xbox 1 when KOTOR came out, but I really didn't play it that much. Beat maybe 10 games on it. Last gen I got a Wii first as I bought into hype, had long been a Nintendo fan and the 360, and especially PS3, were too expensive at launch. Sony really alienated me with the $500-600 launch price due to Bluray which I didn't need at the time as I didn't have an HDTV, hence why I didn't get one until Jan 2012 despite the PS2 being my most played console the prior gen. Again, my loyalties don't stick. I got a 360 for Gears of War and it was my most played console by far from 2007-2012

This gen I impulse bought a Wii U in November as I just had to have my Nintendo fix--especially now that it was in HD and didn't have motion control nonsense shoehorned into every game. And I'll eventually get a PS4 as I love Sony's exclusives, PS+ and look forward to remote play on Vita so I can game when my fiancee is using the main TV like I do on the Wii U gamepad currently. MS is just too locked in on casuals and dude bros with their focus on shooters, sports games and racers. I like a good FPS, but there are plenty of those on Sony's platforms and Sony just has a lot more genre variety with better indie and Japanese developer support.

MS has completely lost my interest with the DRM shit they tried, lack of exclusives I still care about, and forcing in kinect when I loathe motion control stuff. Never say never, but I have a hard time seeing MS doing anything that would get me to buy an X1. I'm already drowning in games and own too many platforms. So with definitely getting a PS4 first, I doubt I'll ever pick up an X1.

That said, when the next gen rolls around I'll be open minded as to which platform(s) fit my needs and things change generation to generation.

I was never hacked but I couldn't agree more with everything else. Even the games on the (exclusive) Xbox 360 that I liked a lot - Alan Wake, Gears of War, Fable 2/3 are not "really" on the new console. I haven't seen anything about Gears other than MS bought the IP to keep it off Sony platforms. As for Fable, they've got some game coming that appears to have a monthly fee so they really fucked that one up. I haven't heard a single thing about Alan Wake 2 and that IP is not owned by MS so it could come out on PC or PS4 (if it ever comes out at all). Aside from those, I have to really think hard to come up with any exclusives that I really felt like I had to have on Xbox 360. Most of the games I liked a lot beyond those 3 that I played on the Xbox 360 were also on PS3 but they performed better on 360 and since I had both platforms I bought them on the Xbox.

Basically, there were 3 exclusives I liked a lot, only one of them has an announced title on the Xbox one and from what I've read of it, they've fucked it up.

While Sony is sticking to what got them here, good first party games from great studios that they support with money but give them freedom with what they actually create. Infamous, Uncharted 4, MLB the Show are amazing franchises that will continue. Then the rest of the studios are all making games and have had huge successes in the past that tell you the new IP's they come up with will be amazing!

I can't wait till E3 to hear more about all the games in development that have yet to be announced. From the recent Sony meeting that brought the announcement for the Vita Slim to NA, IGN stated that Sony also announced several new PS4 games and they are going to be amazing but can't say anything just yet due to embargo's. Next couple of months will be good!

Just picked up Tomb Raider because I never played it last gen, excited to try it out while I wait for Infamous next month!

LOL! Don't tell Timbo that's why you bought TR! He thinks people are buying next gen console to play the ports and not the other way around!
What is dumb about that... I sold my PS3 to finance my PS4, and now I don't have enough HDMI ports to get games on Xbox 360... and I don't even miss it!

Don't have a receiver?
Even with a receiver the ports go fast.

Mine has 4 HDMI ports and there all taken with the DVR, Bluray player, PS3 and Wii U. We have an old RPTV in another room, but no receiver and just two ports taken by a bluray player and a Roku.

I agree with this. I just got a PS4 (for under $300) and price was a big factor. I wanted to stay with Microsoft actually but for the price it's just not worth the extra money just to stay with MS. Sad really, I loved the 360.

Mine has 4 also. Blu Ray, DVR, 360, PS3. Then I have my Wii U hooked up to an HDMI port on my TV and do audio out to the receiver. I might have to swap the PS3 and Wii U because the Wii U can only do stereo in the setup due to no Dolby digital support in the console.

I never said that's why they buy them lol all I said was at launched ports were the highest selling games. Again in your logic games like titanfall and destiny will not make people jump to next gen seeing its on PC and last gen which is false in my opinion. I know for me I only own one xbox one only game rest are also on last gen. Games like NBA and bf4 are just complete diff games on nextgen.

What other choice did you have? There was only two Xbox One only games... You had no choice but to buy cross platform games. But people who have held out to buy a new console aren't going to make that decision on a game that can be played on a current system. My point is as we move away from launch, the people interested in going next gen will need a reason. Titanfall doesn't bring anything different to next gen that PC and XBox360 get except for a prettier look.

I feel bad for Timbo.  He's naturally going to get ganged up on in the PS4 thread I suppose.  In all fairness, he makes some points that I agree with respect to Titanfall.

Titanfall will obviously do well.  As to how many Xbone units it'll move, nobody will know for sure as the best we can do will be educated guesses.  However, we can at least identify the segments that it will cater to: Xbox 360 users that are undecided about making the jump to which next gen system to pick up, the current PS3 users that are intrigued by the Xbone multimedia functionality and are on the fence, and the new blood of gamers that haven't played the current gen.  These three groups are the logical ones that this game will help sway and increase the Xbone adoption rate.  There will always be the folks with great disposable income to afford both systems but this group really isn't significant enough in the analysis.

I'm of the thinking that altogether, these groups will move a significant amount of units just purely in that the gameplay will speak for itself.  Since the install base for the 360 is so huge already, their own 360 line may ironically be the biggest hurdle for MS to push Xbone sales.   We won't know until April I'm guessing.

I don't get why even have a 360 version of the game? If it was XBox One/PC only it would move a lot of units.

Yep. It's a huge budget game and needs the big install base of the 360 to earn a profit. Could use the PS3 base too, but MS paid them enough to offset that.

I really regret reading the last couple pages with all the Titanfall talk. It looks good but no way is it gonna sell a bunch of X1's.

Can we get back to some actual PS4 discussion?

So are there any newcomers to FFXIV? Beta is next weekend however phase 1 characters are not saved but it gives you a good idea of what the game is like.

I got my decals today, I like it!

that guy soon might get a knock on the door from sony for a pretty big pay day those are amazing and sony would be dumb not to come out ps branded decals

Timbo no offense (and I know I am offensive a lot) but the way you write was what Blaster was calling into question not your idea I believe.

Well I got a brand new controller back in the mail yesterday.  Shipped it out on Monday and returned by Friday. All it cost me was shipping.  So if anyone has the tearing problem on analog sticks don't hesitate to send them in.   I do live 2.5 hours from Fort Wayne where I sent my controller though so that could explain the quick turnaround.

The Playstation 4 is getting a Transformers game this year.

...I enjoyed the Transformers games on PS3, so it will be neat to see how this one plays on the new system.

I was immensely disappointed in the PS3 Transformers games.. Maybe this one will be better but I'm not optimistic.
