It's weird, I woke up at 4am this morning and decided to setup downloads for Nier and the No Man's Sky update on my PS5 and went back to sleep. When I got up for good, I saw they both had downloaded so I thought PSN must have come back up during the night. I guess downloading wasn't affected by the outage.

What kind of compensation are you looking for for a day's outage as a non-subscriber? You could have still played your games as long as they weren't online or gameshared.
PSP subscribers could as well though? I know, you have to defend Sony to the death, but still...

Sony really didnt owe anyone anything for the outage but imagine if they gave EVERYONE an extra week, or free week trial to their service? Maybe they could even get some people to try the free week and say "Hey I like this and want to pay for at least a few more months!".

I keep reading this as PS Portable subscribers but assuming you mean PS+, but I think whitereflection is saying is that it's hard to quantify compensation for non-subscribers. How much did the average person "lose" by not being able to play games online for a day?

For subscribers, they can just give out a few extra days and it prob doesn't cost them anything and makes it sound like they gave people something. For non-subscribers, it's much harder... but I feel like they could have done like a day of one of the upper tiers of PS+ free or something.

The 5 days might have actually fucked me. My sub is up next year around black Friday and I planned to renew with whatever BF promo they had on PSN next year, but if my renewal gets pushed too far I think I might not be able to renew with the offer...

Can't you still just "renew" to extend your sub? Or is that not a thing?

I also didn't realize there was sale during BF for PS+... mine expires in July. Man I really wish I did more of those $30-40 re-ups pre-COVID.

I’m thinking the same thing but I re subbed around the days of plays last year!

I was thinking that for myself too I re-subbed the first day of the deal, so hopefully the next BF deal will last longer than 5 days.

I had been investing in Bitcoin, watching the market closely and making careful trades. But no amount of experience could have prepared me for what happened when I fell victim to a sophisticated online scam—one that nearly cost me everything, It started when I came across what seemed like a legitimate investment platform promising high returns through automated crypto trading. The website was professional, had real-time market tracking, and even featured glowing testimonials from supposed investors. After doing what I thought was due diligence, I decided to invest, I made the fateful decision to invest a much larger sum—$75,000 worth of BTC, That’s when everything changed. Suddenly, my withdrawals were “under review,” and customer service became unresponsive. Then, the website disappeared completely. My Bitcoin was gone, and reality hit me like a ton of bricks—I had been scammed, Heartbroken and desperate, I searched for solutions online and came across Dexdert Net Pro Recovery, a company specializing in recovering stolen cryptocurrency, With nothing to lose, I reached out, explaining my situation in detail, Within hours, they responded and requested transaction IDs, wallet addresses, and any communication with the scammers. He explained how Dexdert Net Pro Recovery used advanced blockchain forensics, transaction tracing, and legal partnerships to track stolen funds and recover them. However, using their cutting-edge tracking technology, Dexdert Net Pro Recovery identified an exchange where part of my funds had been deposited. After tense negotiations, I received an email that made my heart race "we have successfully recovered your BTC. The funds have been returned to your wallet, I checked my wallet in disbelief—the $75,000 worth of Bitcoin was back in my possession. The relief was overwhelming. What I thought was a hopeless situation had been turned around by the expertise and persistence of Dexdert Net Pro Recovery, They are the real deal.

i paid $120 to get the founders version of civilization 7, with early access and I can't even play it. welcome to the digital future.
Kind of foolish to blame digital when discs require online checks, and PC doesn't suffer from PSN outages. This is why people are moving away from consoles in part, because of draconian service layers like PSN and XBL.

Hopefully some good stuff on the Horizon cause I don't know about anyone else but my gaming slate so far for upcoming games in 2025 is not a lot. Xenoblade Chronicles X, an otome game coming out April (love battlefield I think it is), something battle from the Danganronpa team, possibly Ghost of Tsushima sequel, and that's about it so far. Hopefully this presentation will give some other things or it will be large backlog year at least for the beginning of it.

They had an almost-sarcastic story on the NBC Nightly News (national) last night about the PSN outage. They showed a few snippets of incels screaming at their phone cams about the service being down, and mothers gloating that their sons can't play atm, get them to do chores instead. Always hate the tone when the news attempts to cover video games. Tho their point was that this outage could happen to any of our other vital services: phones, banking, etc.

XBC:X, Lunar collection, Suikoden collection, Avowed, Switch 2 and whatever games that comes with that. I have plenty for the year.

The only way Sony could get me to care about a State of Play is if they announced a new Wipeout or Jumping Flash or Omega Boost or something along those lines.
