Microsoft treating Sony customers better than their own. Odd times.
I mean they’re giving free codes away for Reloaded to people who owned Gears of War Ultimate edition (and many people who even didn’t own it are also getting free codes). Plus it will be on GamePass.

I think MS is treating their customers generously in the case of Gears of War Reloaded.

I recently got the PS5 Pro and I’m digging it. I had a Slim before that and traded it in toward my Switch 2 pre-order at Gamestop. I made sure to transfer my stuff over before I did. Maybe sell your PS5 Slim locally to help offset the cost of the Pro if you decide to keep it?
I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying the Pro so far. I was hoping my sister was interested in one of our Slims. I traded a couple of Wiis in to get the Switch 2 and considered it for one of the PS5’s last week.

I’ll have to ask around to see if anyone wants a PS5. I hate having to deal with Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. 😭

How does one get a free code? I'm pretty sure I've bought Gears a plenty in the past.

i mean, xbox fanboys will deny it, but even microsoft knows nobody buys xbox games, especially ones that are on gamepass.
Yeah except MS has less of a vested interest in Blurays since they lost the HD-DVD wars and is trying to quietly phase them out now to be fully digital. I 100% guarantee next hardware they do will have no disc drive with the option to add external. Same growing pains when Apple took away the headphone jack but digital is now the dominant format. Gotta go with the flow.

If they are selling first party games as code in the box, I don't see them bothering with external disc drive in the future.

Can u get access to the GOW beta by pre ordering a physical copy or is it strictly for digital pre orders?

seems like digital only nvm

Off note, I recently turned on my vita to take on a long trip. I found a lot of games in my download list that I never knew I had. Thing is I never paid for them. Motorstorm RC, monster monpiece, deadly cross, crimson land a few others. They don't say demo and don't have a expiration date like ps+. Anyone know if they gave out these free at one point. I think they motorstorm was given out free.

Motorstorm RC was free. Did you download any of them? I know a lot of PSP games aren't labeled as demos in the download list, but they are.

Did you buy a bunch of cross buy games on the PS3 or PS4 that included Vita versions?

No I never even heard of deadman cross. Would they be the same size as the demo file size.

I did but I know which one I bought. I think I had a demo of crimson land on ps4 at one point. I tried searching seeing if we got some of them free but no luck. I guess they probably are demos

I know this is the PS thread so might be a bit biased but am I wrong to think GOW or GoW is God of War and NOT Gears of War?

GoW was already out, winning awards, selling copies left and right, and offending people before Gears of War even came out. I've always shorten Gears of War as Gears.
I mean the first God of War came out in 2005 and first Gears of War in 2006 so not like it was years between them. And the first Gears was a pretty big hit (actually looks like it had 5.8 million in total sales vs 4.6 for the first God of War) and critically acclaimed as well. Just saying.

Not saying one is better than the other but can’t act like Gears hasn’t been a huge seller too. They’re both big franchises.

Do agree it’s probably easier to just use Gears for it and GoW for God or War.

Yeah it's confusing. Kinda like ac is animal crossing or assassins creed.

Gears 1-3 was probably a bit more popular than GoW 1-3. However 2018 and Ragnarok are just in a different galaxy than the entire Gears franchise in terms of popularity.

The acid reflux inducing one is "GPU". Quickest way to tell everyone else that you are in your own naive little gaming silo. "GPU" means something else to 90% of other gamers in your exact same hobby who aren't stuck on a single platform. It has been a well-established acronym for about three decades.

I thought this whole time we were talking about American Chopper.

I finally got around to playing and finishing GoW: Ragnarok, and platinum'd it. Really good game overall. Excellent story, world building, and beautiful environments. The high point of the game were the gorgeous character models and the custom armor skin that makes into every cutscene in great detail. It was a game made for 4K HDR and that's exactly the type of new (story / FMV) experience I'm looking for in an action game. I'd say the first several hours felt like a 10/10 game but the repetitions start to drag after awhile. The rewards system was pretty good overall but there are several abilities and armor you rarely use, and the lesser puzzles began to feel unnecessary. It finished around a 8.5/10 game. But I am astonished by the presentation and fluidity. Excellent game. harsh ending too! Nothing feels better than throwing the Leviathan Axe.

I loaded it on my PS5 pro for one of the PS stars collectibles last month. Haven't played it yet. I own the GoW LE PS4 Pro console and platinumed the forst one many years ago. Do you feel a need to replay the first or to watch a summary movie before playing ragnarok? And what was your overall play time with getting the platinum?

Also, what's your setup when you played the game? OLED tv, base or pro PS5? Home theater or headpones?

For the last few games I've played, such as Hogwarts, Tales of Arise, Astrobot, Stellar Blade, I got to a point with nearly all of them that they felt too long and drug out, that I forced myself to finish most.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is in stock currently at Amazon if you've been waiting for a physical copy. Such a fantastic game!

Two things... it says shipping next month. So not in stock, just a preorder.

$20 or bust for me. With the flop of how it launched (poor physical stock), and lack of steelbook/deluxe editions at launch, I'm just waiting for a massive price drop if I do pick it up.

A new developer releases a new IP that modernizes turn based JRPG combat and is front runner for GOTY. There's no monetiziation BS, no DLC, and they only ask $50 for it and you're nitpicking because it doesn't have a steelbook or because they didn't know it would be in such high demand? Man, gamers have to be the most miserable people in the world.

Miserable? I only buy physical and typically a steelbook. If there's an LE or CE option, I won't buy a base edition. I own 127 PS5 games now and countless last gen games. The game can be considered GOTY best ever, I don't have the need or time to play it, especially paying MSRP for a base plain copy that I won't be playing any time soon.

Also I consider any game broken at launch and won't play any new release for six months, to wait for QoL patches and bug fixes. That is why I'm playing Stellar Blade on PS5 pro now, on a 4K OLED 120hz display. I feel the experience would have been ruined playing it at launch on a base console.

Clair Obscur is proof of concept for furthering your success via Gamepass.

Going back to the main point: you've got to put out a great game first. don't put the cart before the horse.

Also proof that development studios can put out a top notch game and still make great money for only $50. That's probably the most important thing that has happened in gaming in 2025. Show companies the proper way of doing business; take the GAAS plans and shove it.

The huge success of E33 and Oblivion at $50 make MS's choice to charge $80 for Outer Worlds 2 even more baffling. They are sending that game out to die.

Agreed 100%. unfortunately I have friends who love the subscription model. It's a back and forth battle with GAAS and physical media that you own.

Look at music today... you can truly no longer buy CDs, nor play them anymore. Everything is streaming now, via apple music, pandora, or spotify.

Gamepass is having an amazing 2025. It's good to see.

I still think there's a snowball's chance they could sweep the populace off their feet and earn a (platform?) leading share of users via PC gamepass in the future.

There was a steel book edition, it's called the Lumiere edition. It sold out, but it exists, so not sure what the critique is about. The restock pre order for the steel book is available at gamestop if you want to pre order that. But absolutely wild to call anything a flop because it sold too well.

Oh and anytime I order something on Amazon showing a later delivery, the order updates a few days later and I get it in a week. That's what happened recently with Lunar.

It's incredible that a game like this (new IP from a new dev) has sold so well and was happy to support it at the $50 price point, especially when games are now launching at $80.

I stated the launch release was a flop. I tried and tried to get the steelbook edition pre launch. Even have connections within gamestop. Some of the managers I know told me the stores didn't even receive the lumiere edition or the CE. Plus on launch day, most stores didn't even have standard copies. I stopped preordering from gamestop for shipping as the last CE I ordered, Metaphor CE for PS5, an employee purposely and intentionally damaged it and then shipped it.

Yes the game may be great, though as a collector I want the 'better' edition. I can wait for a 'complete' edition or it to drop to $20, as even if I had a chance to own the lumiere or CE today, I wouldn't be playing it for a long time... which is why I won't pay $50 for a basic copy today. I did preorder the new reprint lumiere edition from gamestop.

The actual nail in the coffin for me was the scam the studio is trying to pull with the CE reprint. Charging extra for potential tariff fees, then saying if it changes, the fees are not refundable, isn't legal. I was ready to buy the $120 reprint from the studio last month, though they wanted an extra $70 in taxes and fees.

I mean I do get the point that you like many were unable to obtain a copy of the game at launch. Though calling it a flop is still poor choice of words. Poorly handled would work better.

Granted they likely didn't know that it would be as successful as it was.

Now really bad launches would be tales of abyss and tales of hearts r. Bamco was so inept at hearts especially since they didn't print enough copies to even cover day 1 fricken preorders. I had to wait over a month to finally get my copy. I ordered within hours of when preorders opened. Which should have been well in advance. People overloaded Amazon with preorders to make matters worse since no one wanted to go through crappy gamestop. Which is was physical brick and mortar exclusive.

Oh and let's not forget the vita TV fiasco too. They were originally compatible with it in jpn. Then bamco took it off the list via update. Only around a month later or so to add it back.

Abyss they were just being dicks printing only 10k for eu. I mean seriously wth?

MS made the call on this so they're weaponizing Nintendo's greed to push Game Pass appeal. I can both fault them and not at the same time. Nintendo threw the first stone.

I'd say it's more MS pulling a "we have to price our games at $80 but look, you can get gamepass for a few months for the same price and get so much more" play. They're basically going to do what Netflix did with streaming- great value/cheap early on and then slowly get people used to it being shittier over time.
