Hah hah, Irvin is totally blasting the Texans' decision on ESPN right now. Good stuff.

I like the Texans and want them to be successful, but this pick just pisses me off.

I can undersand them wanting to build defense, but that can be done in later rounds.

At least after tonight we can see less of Mel Kiper's stupid haircut.

I can't argue with the pick, I've always been a proponent of picking on need instead of value. The Texans need two things, good D, and a good line. Bush wouldn't have helped with either, and I don't see an O-Lineman worth a first rounder.

Could they have gotten more if they had traded down, say to the Jet's fourth pick plus a second rounder? Probably. In that respect it was a stupid move.

i know its really really totally their reason to draft mario williams is b/c i think they are worried about how to stop peyton manning. the texans have never ever beaten the colts at all. i know reggie bush will make the texans offense a lot better but u dont fight fire with fire against peyton manning. The only way u beat peyton manning is that u try to confuse him with many different defensive schemes and to pressure him as much as u can to make him make bad decisions. I know I might get bash for this but the Houston's GM came on yesterday morning before all of this came down. He was talking about Dwight Freeney and Edgerrin James being which one the colts will choose. The Colts came dwight freeney b/c its really hard to find a great franchise DE more than franchise RB. Seriously, its really hard to find a franchise DE than franchise RB. I know Reggie Bush is more than just a typical franchise RB but i think kubiak also thinks that u can play anyone in the zone-blocking scheme to run 1k yards. Also, Williams was going to be gone at number 2 to New Orleans so thats also y texans couldn't really trade down. Finally, Dan Patrick had a former GM on the show that said Williams was their number 1 on the draft board by up to half of the teams in the league.

Definitely not a number one pick, but he's a first round draft worthy. He was the number one OT in the SEC, I think the nation, started all four years at the greatest university on the planet, and gave up 0 sacks during his tenure. He protected Jason Campbell's weakside the year they (should have) won the national championship, and completely destroyed David Pollack when Auburn played GA. He's going to be a great player for whoever picks him up.

a lot of teams are being scared off b/c of his neck/back injury. he won't fit in houston at all b/c kubiak is running that zone-blocking scheme which is more on athleticism and technique.

Picking by need instead of BPA is a quick way to keep your team in the cellar. When you have as many needs as the Texans do, you take the best damn player available.

You can start addressing your needs in the later rounds, but on the first day of the draft, you take the BPA.

And if the Texans decided on defense, they should have traded down a few picks. Mario Williams more than likely would still be on the board around the fifth or sixth spot, and Houston could have picked up a lot more picks.

The Texans have a hell of a lot more to worry about than trying to figure out how to beat the Colts. At this point, that should be the least of their worries.

Maybe they should focus on putting together a winning season and maybe a playoff birth before they get cute and try to solve their Colts' woes.

Charlie Casserly is a joke.
Norm: Sources say Cowboys trying to deal Julius Jones

Rumor flying right now on the Ticket.

Apparently they want Lawrence Maroney in the draft, and something is in the works.
I hope this isn't true.

What I still don't understand is how Bush has extra value as a WR-kick returner. People get a little crazy with valuations. The risk of him getting injured returning punts or kickoffs seems a bit silly when he is supposed to be a feature back for years to come. Not to mention the questions involved in carrying under 20x a game (why burn the guy out with special teams). You're paying him to be a great RB with mild upside to catch passes. I would be shocked if Bush returns any kicks/punts his 2nd year as a pro.

In a similar vein, the craziness of Pittsburgh needing to replace El is pure insanity. They have solid WRs (are still built around the run), and spending a 1st round draft pick for a few gadget plays is how you destroy a franchise. What I like most about the Texans not drafting Bush is it slides all the RBs down a notch, and with a limited number of teams in need of a RB, it makes good odds for Pitt to draft a guy like White which as potential goes, is unprecedented at the 32nd pick.

I'd also like the Steelers to take White. It would be an excellent pick up for them.

In a division like the AFC South, the Texans needed a DE. It's 8:37 AM in the morning....why can't they start the draft later

I'd rather have the draft start now since it takes all day long... Plus the 9ers and Raiders won't be for another 1 1/2 hours when the draft starts.

Yeah, only time of the year i'm willing to wake up this early. I'm going to a friends house to watch it, told him if we draft Vernon Davis, i'm throwing a chair out his window.

Because you're on the west coast and they're in New York. You want them to bend over for you and start after 3 PM and last until 5 AM?

I'm just thankful the Texans didn't stay on the clock for the full 15 minutes. Hopefully, the Saints won't do the same either.

They have officially agreed to take Bush.
Smart move by Green Bay. They took the biggest defensive playmaker in the draft.

I predict Hawk will have a better career than Williams.
yea, the thing about linebackers, is they can rush the passer, they can stuff the run, and they can cover, mario can only attack at the line, and thats it.

vernon is a 49er

While I think both positions can dominate a game, I just don't think Williams is better at his position than Hawk.

Hawk is going to be a beast for years to come.
