I can't argue with the pick, I've always been a proponent of picking on need instead of value. The Texans need two things, good D, and a good line. Bush wouldn't have helped with either, and I don't see an O-Lineman worth a first rounder.
Could they have gotten more if they had traded down, say to the Jet's fourth pick plus a second rounder? Probably. In that respect it was a stupid move.
Picking by need instead of BPA is a quick way to keep your team in the cellar. When you have as many needs as the Texans do, you take the best damn player available.
You can start addressing your needs in the later rounds, but on the first day of the draft, you take the BPA.
And if the Texans decided on defense, they should have traded down a few picks. Mario Williams more than likely would still be on the board around the fifth or sixth spot, and Houston could have picked up a lot more picks.
