Casserly picked the Rose Bowl as an example about not picking Reggie Bush because that was a game most people could relate to. He said you don't pay a guy $9mill a year to be used part-time...Mario will give you every down. He played only in half of the time (as in half of USC's offensive plays)
In the middle of Casserly's lecture to the fans, he slips and says "Mario is a better human being..." and then pauses as if catching himself before saying something else. But he did say it, he says he was a better human being. What do they know that we don't?
Also houston was a bit worried after bush came for an interview in houston. The mixed signals came even before Bush arrived at a news conference that concluded his visit in Houston. Team officials hesitated before letting him stand in front of the backdrop covered in team logos for the event.
Quote:
"The Texans are keeping quiet about the top draft pick. Coach Gary Kubiak didn't answer questions about Bush during a separate news conference earlier on the 2006 schedule"
Then the very next day, they get Mario Williams to Houston.
The Texans couldn't say the visit with Bush went unwell that because they didn't want to derail any trade up suitors but I never got the feeling that Bush was in love with the Texans and vice versa, the way it should have been since Bush was in the media's eyes "the consensus #1 pick" and we had the first pick and wheelbarrows full of money.
If you know you are the first pick and you really want to go to that city, you sell yourself like crazy to the locals. Bush never did that.
I think something's up with Reggie's attitude that drove him away from the texans. i think maybe bush just thinks about bush and not the team. Also, money and ability to sign before the draft came to play as well (especially the money). Why did they bring Mario Williams in the next day after Bush?
Well, NO is going to have to match that offer or better if they even think Reggie is going to step on that field. Especially with the $3.2 Million law suite about to be slapped on him from the marketing company that took care of his family while a USC.
I would not want to be in NO spot right now, nor Duece's spot because Reggie is going to sell tickets for that team and he knows it and so does the Saints. Now he will put the pressure on them and they are going to have to get him in there right now if they want to sell those seats.
If anybody that saw the st louis game last year knows the real reason we took mario ... a 3rd string rookie from harvard, ouch. actually that could go for most any game last season. like the first game of the season when JP Losman torched us in his first game (and then proceeded to look like a bust against everyone else). if you saw larry johnson & shawn alexander's 200+ yard days against us, mario's your new best friend. jacksonville & indy both putting up 38 points against us last season arent some of my fondest memories. getting hammered into pulp by the steelers & losing to the 49'ers second string players isnt high on my list either.
More and more now, I think the texans made the smart decision as crazy as that sounds since i wanted reggie bush as well. i dont think the usc/parents stuff wasn't a factor in the decision but i think his part-time play at USC (not playing every down)/his attitude/money were the key things that tumbled on him. williams seems now a more of a fit to houston now to help improve that awful defense. he has the complete package and i'm rooting him a lot to do very well b/c he didnt deserve the bad karma or the boos at all. He derserves a chance. I think i really liked his attitude and interviews more than reggie bush as a person. nice job gary kubiak
here's some quotes from him
"I'm going to play with a chip on my shoulder because nobody thought I was worth the top pick except the Texans," he said. "They don't have to worry about me being a bust. I'm going to reward their faith in me. "I'm proud to be a Texan, and I don't take it (booing) personally. I'm used to being the underdog. Reggie and Vince are great players. I wasn't on TV all the time like they were, but that doesn't mean I can't be a great player, too. I'm going to win the fans over." Finally, before he left New York for Houston, Williams was asked what he would do to celebrate being the top pick.
"Yeah, I am going to celebrate," he said. "I'm going to celebrate by working out."
Go Super Mario!
