I think you may need to run a connection test and set it to wireless or something on the 360... then go to the windows media center to "allow" the xbox to be part of your network....

ok i got it to download..and now I have the 360 on..and I did the media connection test. It found the wireless bridge, its connected to the wireless adapter, and the IP address is confirmed. The PC selected failed.

Now I'm confused :(

Well I'm pretty sure the computer part is working.
When I do the media connection test on the 360, it comes up that everything is fine until it gets to "PC Selected".

Ok I'll work on the Media thing some other time. That's not that important right now.

I just have a question that pretty much anyone can answer. I had sent my check for the 2 year warranty. I had sent it about the 30th? (September, that is) Not only have I gotten my warranty from them--but the check has not cleared yet.

How long does this process take??

So should I call them and let them know and do it over the phone? ALSO, would they make it where I don't get charged TWICE for it?! Meaning I call them up and explain to them that my check never cleared and I want to buy a warranty over the phone..and I do it--and then say they get my check days later and they process that as well...i don't want that to happen :(

Sorry if its already been asked, i got tired of lookign through threads.

I see deals on the ps3 hdmi cables. is there a deal on 360 vga cables? (ie. monoprice)

tia

Speaking of VGA cables, I just got mine and have a question. I have my monitor (21" CRT) set to 1280 x 1024 and everything looks great, but all the 360 games have black bars. Is this normal or is there a setting I can change to make them go away? I don't really mind them as the games look really great and Perfect Dark even seems to run at a much better clip, but for some games I would prefer the game take up the whole screen. Before I just assume that they are there so that things don't get cropped off, I figured it would be worth asking.
Is it a 4:3 monitor? Is 1280x1024 the native resolution?
yea it is a 4:3 monitor and the native resolution is 1280 x 1024. I have it set at 1600 x 1200 though (dual input monitor) and when I set it to 1280 x 1024 nothing changed.

I don't what I was thinking before. It's because all 360 games have to be at least 720p, which is widescreen. You'll always have the black bars on a 4:3 monitor. If you can go down to 480p on your monitor, try that. It should be full screen, but it won't be HD.

I kind of figured that, but thanks for the clarification. The clarity is well worth the black bars IMO so I won't be changing anything.

Hey guys I want an HDTV but I still watch a lot of regular analog broadcasts and the like. However. I don't like that strectch effect that most low end TVs have. I know it needs Panorama or Theaterwide viewing options for this. Tvs I've been looking at don't have this in the description but I know they're capable. So what is it I sholu dlook for in the desciption for this option?

Also, I have two XBL accounts. My original form the old Xbox and my free 1 month from the 360. The free one is due to expire soon. Can I migrate my old, use it up while keeping the new on in silver staus, then once my old runs out switch back to the new again?

I bought my first 360 today, it was awesome! Then I brought it home, plugged it in, powered it on for the first time and got the red ring of death.

So I went back to gamestop, and I got my second 360! It's awesome. Runs quiet and cool. 100% satisfied now.

I would suggest checking the AVS forums for TV info.

You can migrate both accounts and keep both accounts on your system, use the one you want when you want. I currently have 4, 2 Gold, 2 Silver. No problem.

Does this mean I can use the name of the new one while using the subscription of the other?

K I'm havin some annoying connection problems. This has done this a few times, but seemed to have resolved it self? ::shrugs:: Now it's not, and I need to know what exactly to do. Please don't be really technical because I look at microsoft support and they really do put it in a way that I don't feel like figuring out, lol

This is how I'm set up. My computer is run via wi-fi from the PC downstairs. My Xbox, which is also in my room, is also wireless. I assumed that it would catch it from the wireless router, but it looks like it runs from my PC (because I had my PC off one time, and I couldn't connect!)

Well I go to Live today, and I had to test the connection (Which, BTW.. everytime I turn the console on, I can't connect and I have to test the connection--which turns out OK. It's annoying to ALWAYS 'test the connection'...) and when I was running the test I got the balloon on my PC that said "Windows System Error- IP Address Conflict there is an IP
address conflict with another system on the network"

I don't have a firewall on my PC. My connection is unsecure, and I don't have any keys/passwords to put in.

Sooo...please. Someone help? :(

I was going to make a thread for this, but I didn't want to clutter the boards. I have a few very particular questions about XBL and Microsoft's policies. I'd appeciate if anybody could help answer them.

1. Do all 360 consoles still come with a 1-month free trial to XBL? If so, do they expire?

2. I still have a 2-month free trial that I got with Halo 2. I remember people used to be able to call up MS and get a new code if they had expired, do they still do that? Since the code is for the original Xbox Live, would it work with the 360's Gold membership?

3. You know how the Xbox Live 12 Month Gold Kit comes with that rebate for $20 when you buy a 360 game? In all the stores I've been too, they all expired in June, and the same goes for Amazon. Once again, does anybody know if MS is extending this expiration date? Seems silly if they don't, since it's advertised right on the box in big letters, and I'm sure somebody would raise hell over it.

1. No, not really. You can create a Silver account using your 360, and right now they're upping them to 1-month Gold accounts. You can basically make as many as you want.

2. They don't replace them anymore, but sometimes they still work. If it were to work, you could migrate the account over to your 360 as well, yes. The account would work on both consoles, just not at the same time.

3. That's something I don't know, but a call to Microsoft might help before you actually go out and pick one up. I'd imagine they do, but just to be sure, call them. They make you cut out the UPC of the game, so to me, it's not really worth it. Some people are able to get just a photocopy to work, and some aren't.

Thanks for the answers, Trakan. Looks like I'll be making a silver account on my 360 when it arrives and upping it for a month, then getting a Gold Kit and just using that for a year. The kit is only $10 more than the card, and I know I could use an extra headset, because the one I had a few years ago for the original Xbox broke within a couple months. Plus, you've got the free MS points and the Billiards game. I don't know if I'd even go through with the rebate if it means maiming one of my cases, heh. I'm psyched about getting a 360 though, I already grabbed a new XBL and everything (hence the empty gamertag).

One more thing I'm wondering, why would you need more than one Live account?

Some people make Japanese or some sort of European account because those regions get certain games/videos/etc. that we normally wouldn't, as well as keeping their US Live account

Ok, maybe Im being stupid here but I just recently decided to get a 360. Im going to get a Premium system but I dont have a HDTV, the cables that come in the Premium package will work with a regular tv with AV Inputs right? Secondly, what is the difference between a Gold and Silver Live subscription? And finally are people still having problems with current 360's bought? I dont want to buy the system and in six months it explode on me. Thanks guys.

1) Yes, the cables that come in the Premium package work with a normal tv with AV slots (yellow, white, red).

2) The only difference between silver and gold is that gold members can play online.

3) Mine has been doing fine (bought back in I believe March). I would still get the MS 2 year extended warrenty just in case.

Just to chime in from the previous thread.... I personally am in a minority about the play and charge kit. I've never needed them. I picked up the nyko quick charger that comes with 2 batteries for $30 and it's been great. Highly recommended.

First off....I have tried using the search feature and have gotten a fatal error about memory on CAG three times....

Now, I have a question about the xbox 360 batteries. I have gone through two packs of batteries on my 360 controllers, mainly because I'm an idiot, but also because I'm lazy and haven't bought the rechargables. I saw in another thread a mention about a Play and Charge kit ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000B6MLS2/ref=nosim/cheapassgam08-20 ) and was wanting to know if this is all that is required for the controllers. It claims to give 25 hours of battery life, but is this just a charger or everything I need? Suggestions? Thanks

EDIT: When I say two packs of batteries I mean two packs of 15 batteries each....

yes, that is all you need for one controller. when the controller says its low, you plug the charger into the console and into your controller, it will charge while you play, or charge as you do nothing.

if you have more than one controller, you can buy just one more rechargable battery only. then you can flip the charger to each controller as they drain.

Well to be honest, if you want to be a real cheap ass, you can go to Costco or walmart and pick up a generic AA charger and 4 batteries for well under $20. That should do you fine.

The play and charge kit comes with a rechargable battery and cord to play and/or charge it.

Or you can get charge stations with 1 battery for $30 Microsoft brand. Or charge stations with 2 batteries Nykyo brand for the same price. (the route I went)

Yup, every better it can charge via USB (so you can leave it plugged into your computer)

I'm not sure if anyone will find this information helpful, but I found out yesterday the hard way, that 1600 point cards must be region coded.

I have a friend from Finland, her microsoft passport is set to Finland. We tried to activate two point cards on account and it kept saying invalid code.

Called Microsoft and they didn't know either.

However, when we activated the cards on American accounts, they worked fine.

I don't know if this is common knowledge or not. But I know some people like to have multiple accounts for different regions, so it might be a good thing to know if people can't get their code to activate.

does anyone know how much it is to change your gamer tag?

is it all transparent if you do? i.e. everyone on your friends list get notified/updated? thanks

I believe it is 800 points, but don't hold me to that.

I have a question, scanned this thread quickly so I don't think it's been asked.

I'm going to stay with my folks in the UK for Christmas, intending to take my region free 360 games and buy a UK 360.

Does anyone know whether the Hard Drive from my US 360 will work in a UK 360 ?

I'm thinking best case scenario all my game saves and XBLA games work, worst case it potentially tries to re-format the drive

Ok, a newb question.

What exactly is the difference between a ranked match and a regular match?

I initially thought ranked matches meant they were for leaderboards or something. While regular matches were for practice. Is this not true?

Youre right on ranked. Regular matches are where you can play with your online friends. Friends are not allowed on ranked matches unless you happen to get matched up by coincidence. This way there's no foul play to the leaderboards.

But isn't there more to ranked matches than that? Like, isn't it trying to match you up with someone of your same score or something like that?

Yes, sorry I thought you knew that. With ranked matches, the system tries to match you up with players of your same skill and with regular matches its a free for all, noob vs expert...etc.

Ah. That's what I was trying to verify. Thanks!
