PS2 going down to $129.99 this week
Its old ass hardware, the origional Xbox is such a better deal(hardware wise).
guess you also bought the Jaguar & 3DO over old ass hardware like the SNES & Genesis
I am NOT gonna be that stupid AGAIN to buy ANOTHER PS2, NOT at $129, unless I'm getting it on the cheap.
I find it hysterical that people like you blame Sony for issues with their PS2. How many millions have they sold? If they were so horrible at making consoles, it wouldn't be selling into the six figure area. You've gone through how many PS2s? I've gone through all of none. My first one's been working for 5 years even after I've modded the shit out of it. What do you think is more likely? Sony has sold 100,000,000 faulty consoles and is still in business, or theres some circumstance unique to you (and a few others) that make you eat 3 PS2s in 6 months. If you buy them at the same store, it could be the fact that the fuck monkey they have drooling in electronics uses them to build forts. It could be your carpeting even! A very thick, dry carpet produces a lot of static. You should short out the PS2 every time you touch it. It could be the power socket you plug it into.

If the common denominator was "$oni R fukking STOOPUD!" then you'd probably see something more like 100 million unhappy customers instead of.... you.

Am I saying their consoles are perfect? No, I've had DREs too, all I had to do was clean the lense. Is it Sony's fault that their electronics aren't immune to dust? My GameCube has had DREs! OMFG NINTENDO R RIPPING ME OFF!!!!! No jackass, shit gets dirty, clean it. I'm surprised you aren't complaining your 20 year old Nintendo games flicker when you load them up.

Nothing is 100%, but given how they've done ONE HUNDRED MILLION transactions, I think they're doing pretty well. I don't know about you, but I occasionally make mistakes too. Would you care to make Sony a factory that can mass produce consoles non-stop with a 0% error rate? Didn't think so.

What I find even funnier is the people who are on their 5th PS2 and want to blame Sony for making an inferior product.

How about we blame your mom for birthing an inferior product? I mean, you spend that much money and you're mad at someone else?

it begins

If you have a buy.com account they are sending a 10% off coupon to members (dunno if its all members or what)

But the 10% off coupon can be used towards a ps2 :)

So its even cheaper 129.99 - 10% = Happy times

p.s but im still buying my ps2 at bestbuy for the service plan :(

Yeah. I love that one guy who went through 2 PS2s and 3 Xboxes. Jesus Christ. That's BAD.

OK, I admit, I can't pass up a bargain. Not that I consider this to BE a bargain, but still, I had $107 something in credit from FYE and they have a $30 rebate deal going on with the price drop too, making this $99 after the rebate.

So, considering that I only paid about 30 bucks for the 100 plus in credit I used to get this, I'm getting a PS2(after rebate) for $30.

Now, THAT is a great cheap ass deal, if you ask me.

Listen here "kayden", I bought my first PS2 in 2001. And yes, it started to crap out on me within 6 shaq fuing months!?!?!?! I didn't move it, I didn't jar it, I kept the area it was kept in flippin clean. So all of a sudden, you're a big Sony expert, huh? And, for your information, I kept it off the carpet, slappy.

I was simply stating MY experiences with the PS2 consoles and I had my unfair share of bad luck. Yeah, maybe the idiots at Best Buy used the PS2s I bought as shot puts and tossed em around like footballs before I bought them.

I don't know what happened prior to me buying them, but I didn't have one of the 'common' PS2 problems, I had my first 2 PS2's going to a blue screen in the middle of playing a game.

Thats right, a blue screen, no friggin DREs, no scratching discs, none of the other problems that are semi common with these pos's.

And yes, I bought a PStwo today from FYE, it plays great, it looks great, we shall see though.

So, before you comment, slappy, THINK!

Anybody who ever worked in a situation where they would have to return game consoles knows the sony's are junk. I know from personal experience. I worked at an Eb games and would say I returned at least 50 systems in my time there and people were able to do so because they purchased the extended warranty. In that same time I returned maybe 8 Xboxes and 1 Gamecube.

True FriskyTanuki, and I know some people who have had PS2s since launch or a lilttle after with no problems. Yet, I keep my systems off the floor, well ventilated and away from most dust, however I end up with the most problem prone PS2s of the entire run.

I had 2 PS2s from the year after launch, paid $300 for the first one and $50 for the BB replacement warranty to get reamed a year after getting that one.

Both went to BLUE screens while playing a game, I checked the wires, none loose, none disconnected, yet the problems continued.

So yeah, maybe I am in the minority, but then, why would my local indy game shop have STACKS upon STACKS of PS2s, BROKEN, laying about?

Answer me that........

Either way, I'm taking a chance again, but I'll say it again, it only took me $30 in cheap games traded to FYE to amass the $107 in credt I used to help get me the PStwo today and they have a $30 rebate deal.

So, its like I'm spending maybe $30 or so to take another chance with Sony. I just hope this system wasn't used as a shot put by the stock clerks, as the box had a huge dent in it n was falling apart when I bought it.

But, the system was in perfect shape, nonetheless.

This is a freaking steal for people. I really dont see how anyone couldnt buy a ps2. There are so many cheap games for it to satisfy anyone, no matter what they like.

u people are retarded and stupid if u go through 3 ps2s in 6 months. if u work out the percentage of broken ps2s to the amount that went out, its just as any other piece of hardware. ive had my fat ps2 from 2002-2005 and nothing went wrong, now i have a slim one and nothings been wrong with it either, BOINK BEEP MAAAAAAA

That's why there were two class action suits against Sony for the extremely high defect rate? They settled the first one and the second one is pending settlement in late April/early May.
hahaah xbox's huge ass control is the 2nd worst of all time (IGN)
While the Duke controller did suck. The S controller is one of the best controllers of all time. It's much better than the GC or PS2 controller.

Only if you have the hands of a woman or child. j/k Seriously, people with larger hands generally find them hard to use. I absolutely hate the PS2 controller, it's the worst modern controller I've ever seen, and I hate the S slightly less. The Duke is better, but the black & white button placement sucks. Right now I'm using a Gamestop branded S controller because it's the lesser of the evils I could find (smaller, but has B&W triggers). The Cube controller is a fantastic design. Even though it's small enough for children to use it's still comfortable for me. I like the DC controller too, but that doesn't scale down as well.
I'm sorry if this has been mentioned but at the TRU I work at, if you buy a PS2 ($129.99) you get a game $19.95-19.99 free. We posted signs up but I don't know if this is for all TRU's so YMMV.
I'll have to check my TRU out....but I need a new controller and want to get GoW, and then I can trade in my old PS2 and old Ethernet adaptor...after said and done, it would be like getting a slimline for $40 or so. That would be pretty decent. Thanks for the info.

I don't know if this has been mentioned in the thread yet, but Meijer is giving an additional 20% discount for using your meijer credit card today and tomorrow, I'm not sure if this stacks with the discount for opening one, but this would allow you to get to a PSTwo for like $104 before tax, or possibly $93 if the discounts do stack, and if you work there, take off like another $9 to make the final cost $84 before tax.

I think he's mistaken, from the Unadvertised Deal list I checked, buy a PS2 and any $19.99 game, you get a second game of equal value free. I'm fairly sure that's the deal. But don't expect to see any signs. Most of these the employees don't even know about. Just like the free Star Wars controller with game purchase of last year.

I was mistaken, I checked again today the sale is

Buy any 2 $19.99 games with your PS2 and get 1 $19.99 game for free. Sorry

Hahahaha Americanpierg, I didn't say 3 PS2s in 6 months. I said 2 within a year and a half. And yeah, I may have moved one of them alot, taking it up my one buddies house to hang out n play some of the latest games. So yeah, maybe all that moving about had a little to do with the failure rate.

But I still don't know what the problem WAS, as no one I know had that problem, most had the DREs or other varied problems.

"Strawberries has an in-store sign in the games section that mentions a $99 PS2 (or was it $99.99?) after rebate. No other details or forms in plain sight and I didn't ask since I wasn't looking to buy one. YMMV of course.

Even though there isn't a Strawberries in Ohio, you might want to check out whatever local Trans World Entertainment (TWEC) owned store near you like a f.y.e., Coconuts, Wherehouse Music, Spec's Music, Planet Music, etc. to see if they have the same offer going as it was a generic sign with a pic of PS2 and the price after rebate."

* Cut & Pasted from a deal request reply post of mine since this might be relevant here. Anyone see or know anything about this offer?
Yes, but the rumor is the xbox 360 may go down 100$. Deal or No Deal............
Don't bet on it. M$ has absolutely no reason to drop the price this early. I have not seen a premium in stores on the shelf ever. It won't happen. It may not even happen this year because they have to know that no matter what they do the PS3 will still sell out so lowering the price won't help to combat Sony until next year. We need a bet thread! I will bet all my CAG cash.

I went to TRU yesterday and there were about 30 premium systems just sitting there. I was like, if it were still November I could retire early...

The only exclusive PS2 game out there that really appeals to me is Guitar Hero, but it's against my religion to spend 200 bucks basically for one game.

Anybody heard if it's coming Microsoft's way on the old XBOX?
