OK, I'm finally jumping on board. I had oodles of GS credit and decided as a semi-surprise to get the 160GB bundle for the kids for Christmas. Yeah, it's really for me of course but it will be something else for them to open, anyway

.
I know everyone puts down the 160GB bundle but I figure Uncharted is worth $30 in GS credit as I could have gotten it used for about that much. I think it comes with some DLC game, too (Pain or some such?). So, let's say I'm paying $65 extra for another 80GB then. Yeah, yeah, I could put a 320GB drive in and all that. But given that I spent no real cash for this (which I would for a drive from Newegg or whatever) I figure I came out ahead anyway.
This is spurring me to set up the extra room we have as a home theater so I'm looking for the whole setup from HDTV to surround sound to seating. I'll probably pick up an HDTV soon (thinking about the Samsung HL61A750 that is on sale at CC this week so I have till Saturday to decide on that). I'm going with the DLP projection TV because I want it BIG (61"), yet cheap.
Anyway, that's neither here nor there unless anyone can think of a reason why it isn't a good choice with the PS3. It is 1080p of course and I think it scales 720p stuff. My current Sony HDTV does not and this is one of the main reasons I haven't bought a PS3 yet (720p stuff would get displayed as 480p).
I had a few little questions, though. For Blu-Ray playback, do I NEED the remote, or can I use a controller? Does anyone know if the $5 clearance remotes from Kmart ("Universal Gamer") will control Blu-Ray playback? They don't mention it specifically on the packaging, but talk alot about Xbox 360 and "Playstation" without being more specific there as to the model and functionality. This second question is aimed at Kmart clearance thread regulars (eg, IAmTheCheapestGamer) who may have grabbed one of these back when they were on clearance (6-12 months ago I think). I wouldn't expect anyone else to even know what I'm talking about .
Uh, let's see... OK, I know almost nothing about the games but I do have LBP. Will I want a second controller for that immediately to play with the kids? Can you play at the same time through levels? And create them together too (or is that coming later via a patch?).
I already have an Eye and will be sending one to my Dad so we can do video chat. He just bought a PS3 for the Blu-Ray mostly. Here's a big advantage of the free online component though vs the 360 - he'd never pay for any premium service so it's nice we'll be able to use those features without having to both have "Gold" membership like the 360.
I'm also having him buy some of the $5 sale games from PSN tomorrow. I signed up for a PSN account (Odibee like my 360 one) and since I'm not hooked up yet I'm going to have him purchase them for me. I put a $20 PSN card into the account. I hope this is easy for him to figure out since I have no idea how it works myself! From what I understand he can keep them to play as well even once he puts his own account back in, right?
