Did everyone's PS3 Slim have a circular seal sticker? Mine just has a rectangular piece of tape sealing the top that's off-center. Just want to make sure it's not a return.
So I finally purchased a PS3. Received it on Monday. Watched three movies today totalling about 5 hours over an 11 hour span. So there were substantial breaks in between. The third DVD would not eject. It was just making noise. Tried turning it off and on. Nothing worked. Eventually got it out. Is this is sign of things to come or if it is fine now should it be okay in most circumstances? Thanks
check the disc maybe? It was a looong time ago but I had a movie from maybe blockbuster where I peeled the sticker off the top of the dvd and did not clean it enough with Goo-Gone. it ended up being a pain to get it out of the PS3.
I am in need of an HDMI cable. I was looking through monoprice and there is like 3 different kinds of cables, theres HDMI 1.3a, 1.3b, and now 1.4 is coming out soon.
Which cable will work best for the PS3? Should I wait for the 1.4 HDMI cable.?
Is there a workaround for the sign-in process yet? I've been offline since the last update a month ago and I'm sick of DL'ing completely useless features. Just want to play the games.
So im about to order a new ps3 and a hard drive enclosure for the 640 gig hard drive I had in my ps3. Is that hard drive enclosure going to get me all my game saves if the hard drive has nothing wrong with it? Or is the ps3 not going to read it and say something stupid like it's not fat 32.
I have a 40GB PS3 that turns on but doesn't read disks. I also have an 80GB w/ backwards compatibility that has the blinking red light issue and turns off after a few seconds. Is there anything that I can switch from the 40GB to the 80GB PS3 to get it working. I rather fix the 80GB.
I got tired of disconnects and trying different things to get my PS3's wifi connection to work better when someone else is on a computer (PC is wired directly to router). So I used the PC in my room and set the Ethernet to share the wifi connection, an connected the ethernet cable from my PC to my PS3. Seems to be working a LOT better. It is a lot smoother and I actually had to adjust to playing BFBC2 slightly (lacking the slight jerks/lag that I thought were part of the game).
Can also switch over to my 360 and don't have to drag the thing into other room with the router.
I am just curious as to WHY connecting to another machine is better then using the signals sent directly to and from the PS3...
Dumb question. Got bored and bought and downloaded Burnout Paradise pack with the extra island. Downloaded and installed fine. Went to play the game and I dont see any extra island or anything.
I dont get online with my ps3 much so wtf did I do wrong or what am I missing?
My problem was I needed to play Burnout while online so it could "update" the downloaded game itself to get the Island portion to work.

Thanks - good to know. I just bought and downloaded the full $30 bundle last night but haven't tried it yet.
Im looking to get a slim ps3. I have a back up copy of my current ps3's harddrive. Would I be able to restore it on the new ps3? Or will I have to redownload everything?

You can restore it on any PS3, but some things might not transfer. Things like locked saves. If you have both PS3s at the same time, do a transfer via Ethernet, that should transfer everything.

someone told me there was an option on the console to deactivate your accounts on the ps3. not sure exactly where you it shouldnt be too hard to find.

Would I need a crossover cable? Ive been reading online that Sony is supposed to come out with a transfer cable/migration cable similar to the one the 360 has. Does anyone know if or when its coming out?
Also with a back up does it back up all my user accounts or will I have to deactivate and reactivate the accounts. I have quite a few from game sharing.

According to this you can use either a normal cable or a crossover cable, doesn't matter.
It also suggests to deactivate your source system and says you need to activate the destination system. So I'm guessing that, even if it transfered the other user accounts, you'll still have fun getting all the gameshared games to work.
I believe that if it's either tied to your PSN account (PSN Games/DLC) or the old system (locked saves), it won't transfer over in that type of backup. If the backup was done to the same system, everything would transfer over.
If you had the old system with you, you could use an ethernet cable to directly transfer everything without losing any of that locked content.
I just got a slim and am trying to transfer my saves from my old ps3. I got a hard drive enclosure for the 640 gig hd that i had in my Fat but my computer won't read it. I also have anther external hard drive that is fat32-35 compatible so the ps3 can read it. Right now im not quite sure what to do about it. Does anyone know if i can put that 640 gig hard drive in my new ps3 slim and hook up the ps3 compatible external hard drive to gain access to my games and saves before i have to reformat it. I didn't really want to put that hard drive in my new ps3 but now that i think about it that 640 gig hard drive might only be compatible with ps3's anymore. My old ps3 got the blinking red light so i can't connect the systems.
You're SOL.
You can't read a PS3 drive on a computer.
You can't use a PS3 drive in a different PS3.
Unless you get the original PS3 fixed you can kiss your saves goodbye.
Man, that sucks. You can't have the PS3 read it through USB? And I guess it'll just tell you to format it if you stick it in as is (if not, you could swap it, copy saves off, and swap it back). Seems like a bunch of Playstation saves are locked anyway, which is lame. Although the Wii takes the cake for that.
That's weird about the loudness...I thought they were supposedly quieter? I've never actually heard one though, and while it's using 45 instead of 65nm chips, it's also smaller sooooo that could negate that.
I'd be prepared that maybe putting it in the system will wipe it...but then you'd lose it anyway so it's worth a shot!
You can't have the PS3 read it through USB?
No
And I guess it'll just tell you to format it if you stick it in as is.
Yes
Everyone should keep a backup of their saves on a flash drive.
My ps3 slim is making game discs hot and i just got it. I aslo noticed the system is getting about as hot as my fat and is just as loud.
You probably did this but will post in case, make sure all vents on the PS3 have at least 2 inches of space open to them for air flow and that the back of the system has 12 inches of open space and is not enclosed in an entertainment center or on a rug. But it sounds like your system is not working properly if discs are getting hot and its loud. I don't even hear my fat.
did sony or anyone ever say why some saves can be copied to a drive and others cant? i did my weekly backup today and i couldnt copy my asasasins creed 2 saves.

If you have not already, just buy the cheapest one (1.3 whatever). You wont even notice the difference.
I have one on the way to me, it was in my goldbox. $4.81 shipped otherwise. Good deal for that spec and brand if you have prime or doing an order for free shipping.
did sony or anyone ever say why some saves can be copied to a drive and others cant? i did my weekly backup today and i couldnt copy my asasasins creed 2 saves.
I think it's just the publishers not wanting people to not skip parts of/entire single player games.

Some saves are locked and only able to be backed up by either the transfer utility or full backup, so I heard.
We had a small thunderstorm last night and I lost power for a little bit. I have all my electronics plugged into a surge protector. Anyway so after the storm I am testing all my devices to make sure they work and I am not getting any signal from my PS3. I have it hooked up via HDMI through my Denon receiver. It worked without a problem in the past and now nothing. I also have no cable or internet but my 360 and Wii work fine.
So I disconnect everything and try to hook up the PS3 again. Nothing no signal. So I break out the old component cables from my old TV and I get the picture back up. Everything is a little different looking my theme is not displayed and I can't sign in because of no internet.
I then try the option to connect via HDMI and get nothing. a Blank screen. So I turn it off and try again. On start up it says you can now connect using the compatiable HDMI connection. Would you like to connect via HDMI I say yes and I get no signal still.
Then I try to bypass the receiver and connect straight to the TV with HDMI. Blank screen again. I turn it off get the same message about trying to hook up with HDMI. I say yes and blank screen again.
I tried resetting the display setting by holding down the button and still can not get a connection with HDMI even though I just watched a Blu-Ray last night without a problem.
Can anyone help me. Do you think I need a new set of HDMI cables? Is it possible that I have an issue because I can't sign into my profile because my internet connection was down. Any help would be appreciated.
I only have two component hook ups on my TV and they are being used by my 360 and Wii. I have plenty of HDMI ports and btw I tried them all and still could not get the PS3 up and running via HDMI even though it has been working since February fine when I bought my new TV.
Did you try other hdmi cables too? Your theme not being displayed is strange because that should not be affected by the internet. That almost sounds like the PS3 lost it's data or something. During storms you should unplug them because surge protectors can only take so many surges before they don't provide any protection. Was it an old surge?

Either the hdmi cord is bad (didnt you try any other devices using the same hdmi cord?) or your HDMI port on the ps3 is toast. If thats the case, there is no fix other then sending it to sony. If its been 1 year or less and you have the receipt, its a free repair. If you do not have the receipt, its 150 or so depending on the model you have.
You could also just use component from here on out, but if you have a 1080p tv, i dont think the ps3 likes to output 1080p over component.

I tried everything and it looks like the HDMI port is gone bad. I have tried the cables with other devices and they work fine. I have tried my PS3 on multiple TVs and it still did not work. I can get it working via component but I don't have free ports on my main TV(360 and Wii).
I think by resetting the display output it resets the theme as well. I did a test yesterday.
This is a launch fully BC PS3 so I'm either going to send it back to get fixed or buy a new model and put this one in my bedroom.

Forgot to add, surge protectors also do not always block surges, even if they still have protection left in them. So unplug your PC, TV, game systems when there is a storm and definitely don't use them during a storm. Just putting all that out there for everyone.

I think it also says not to use a surge protector in the PS3 manual. I remember reading that because I have a heavy duty-protector (for a treadmill) that I am not using.
Just read that: Don't have a lot of electronic devices connected to 1 surge and many surge protectors will insure you for your items if they were damaged while plugged into the surge! I remember when I bought my last surge it had this.
Now even though Sony says not to use a surge, I don't think I'd listen to that unless the PS3 has it's own surge that works very well. It does not seem that using another surge does any damage so I would still use another surge. I've heard of people's PS3's being destroyed due to surges. Maybe the game companies even say not to use a surge so they can get more people who need repairs.
Considerations
Both the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii support sites suggest that you not use a surge protector with those consoles. Sony recommends only that you use a polarized three-prong outlet that is properly grounded for your PS3. http://www.ehow.com/facts_6208619_surge-protector-ps3_.html
So I reconnected my PS3 yesterday with component cables and optical for audio. Everything seems fine and working normal again. The only issue is that Blu-Ray max resolution is 1080i via component and you can not upscale DVDs via component cables. Not that big of a deal really and not a reason to buy another PS3 yet. I think I need a new laptop before I buy another PS3 because of a bad HDMI port.
when you type in a text field like google search box and the PS3 suggests words you have used before on the right of the PS3 keyboard...like my email address for example from logging into it....is there a way to clear the list of words it remembers that you entered from showing up on the list ?

I was trying to figure this out for website searches & text inputs it automatically saves I did on PS3 for a long time because deleting the predictive dictionary did not do it. I finally realized I just needed to delete the history and/or cache from within the browser.
If I was selling my PS3 what would I need to do? I've google'd tons of stuff but couldn't really find an answer as to what information is actually stored on my PS3. I don't have a CC stored on there and I'm not sure if my address is on there. Basically what is kept on the PS3 and what do I need to make sure gets deleted? I read just to delete the User off and format it, is this it?

I have the same question as well. I read you have to deactivate your user name...do i have to do this? Also do I have to deactivate all of the software I downloaded so it does not count towards the 5 downloads and how would I go about doing this? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
Another question, with the Slim models is there any difference in skus or are they all the same? I know there is a 120gb and a 250gb, but after that is there anything else i should be looking for when I purchase one?

This Youtube video walks you through the process for deactivating your account.
After you do this, I'd reformat the system AFTER you get everything you'd like to keep off of it and onto your new system. That way it should be clean.
Hey, so I'm looking to sell my 60GB and buy a slim model. I'm trying to use the backup utility, but it gives me an error before any progress can be made. I figured it was a space issue at first, but I now have a 6GB flash drive hooked up and it still gives me the problem, all that's on there are game saves so I doubt space is the issue.
Anyways, my second idea was to manually copy over each and every game save on there (at least those that can be copied) since that doesn't seem to cause any problems... is this basically the same thing the backup utility will do? When I sign in on my new PS3 will I just be able to copy these over? Is there anything else I need to copy over?
Does anyone know why the audio for Uncharted shows up as PCM on my receiver and not Dolby Digital? The back of the box shows Dolby Digital and most games show up as such. I have my PS3 set to bitstream, and it does so for all DVDs and Blurays.
