PS3 scheduled for $100 price drop to $499.99 after E3?

If the price drop is universal.. couldn't you get the PS3 at full price at Circuit for the 5 free blu ray movies, then force a price match once the universal price drop hammer falls?

I'm tempted... Until Ratched at Clank comes out, I think I still need to wait.

And yes, you can PM later.

The PM issue can be tricky, I've had problems PM'ing at Best Buys and Circuit Citys because they PM based on sale prices, a universal price drop doesn't count. Ofcourse it could be BS, because I go to a different location and its all OK.
I should have listened to Colbert....

Of course Sony is denying it. All companies deny it until official press release time.
Of course they admit it, silly rabbit. Remember when Microsoft admitted that the Elite was in production the moment word about an HDMI and larger HDD-equipped console leaked to the gamers? They were all like "yeah, we're totally making this bad-ass system, but wait for the press release that's forthcoming: it will blow your fucking MIND!"

Of course Sony is mum, Linkin. Like ANY company is ANY time changes leak before an official announcement. It ain't 7/12 yet, so they would like to get a few more non-CAG reading foolios to bite on the console before the official price drop, just like MS wanted a few more $400 pros sold before the Elite was announced.

can someone suggest 5 decent blu-ray flix that CC has in stock? i'm not familiar with the selection, thanx

btw, i'm into martial arts and sci-fi films, no chick flix
That's Japan though, MS always prices the 360 cheaper there.

And, Mana Knight, Castlevania: SOTN shits on any PSN release. So, until they put Final Fantasy 6 or some shit better than that on PSN, XBLA wins. ;)
barring the fact that the game is already technically on the PS3 making this whole argument kinda moot, SOTN is pretty overhyped, sorry. when it comes down to it, the gameplay is pretty mindless and not very engaging at all. it's fun to run around, grind levels and collect stuff, but the game is running purely on hype. When it first came out, it was the shit, but 5 or 6 castletroids later, it's time for a return to it's level based roots (or some other overhaul for 2D castlevania.)

Tekken DR, however, is good for a lifetime ;)

just my opinion, not right or wrong, but flame away :)

Damn dude, you should have quit while you were ahead. It makes it harder for me to stay out of this thread. Never thought you were such an ass, I'm attacking a console here based on what my gaming needs are, and you direct your attack towards me. Wow !

This is why everyone thinks Sony fanboys are just...fanboys.

knowing Chacrana, you're taking him too seriously.

but I understand, you need to make "Sony fanboys" look bad or else MS won't deposit the checks in your paypal account.

whoa there! just a joke.

It's your opinion, but I'm positive most people would agree that SOTN shits on Tekken 5's chest.

I'm not sure how I even became a Sony fanboy. I came in here and busted out Grammer Police Mode, and now I had sex with Kaz Hirai.

Barbies Horse Riding is more enjoyable than Tekken.

Xbox 360 can't play any Tekken, so PS3 wins.

Anyway, when I went out to retailers today, I didn't see any price drop yet. Didn't go to Target myself though. I might this weekend, but I'll probably see the drop next week.

I thought we were talking about XBLA vs PSN games, same argument from pages ago.

Okay, well, the 360 can play Halo/Gears of War. 360 wins.

We could be here all day with stupid opinions.

I have the PSX version but never played it. Just never got around to it.

I got the XBLA version, and I don't see why it would be considered a "crappy port". It supports widescreen, has enhanced graphics and sound effects and music, has rumble, and displays in 1080i, and although I don't care too much about them, it has leaderboards. I haven't beat the game, but I never ran into any problems that I would say was a crappy port.

EDIT: It also has Achievements, although not a plus for everyone, it is for me. I'm addicted to those suckers.

Does the XBL version do leaderboards for like time attack and stuff? If so, I don't think anybody but those speedrun guys will be able to place 1st and so on lol. I believe the fastest time I've ever seen for sotn was 6 minutes with Richter. And that's both normal and alternate castle.

Yes, there is leaderboards for time attacks.

Here's the achievements:

Apprentice (5) Defeat 10 consecutive enemies using only magic without getting hit.
Belmont's Revenge (45) Finish the game, including the inverted castle, as Richter.
Bloodlines (10) Defeat Dracula in the Bloodlines stage without getting hit.
Changeling (10) Obtain the Bat, Wolf and Mist transformations.
Demon Slayer (10) Defeat Gaibon and Slorga.
Familiar (10) Collect all five familiars in the game.
Money Bags (25) Collect a bank of $100,000.
Rampage (5) Defeat 10 consecutive enemies using the standard weapons without getting hit.
Seeker (35) Explore 200.6% of the game.
Topsy Turvy (20) Unlock the Inverted Castle.
Warlock (15) Unlock and Cast all eight of Alucard's spells.
Weapon Master (10) Defeat 10 consecutive enemies using special weapons without getting hit.

when achievement lists start flying out in a thread about the PS3, is it the "sony fanboy's" turn to start accusing people of being fanboys or what? (in quotations, since most people in this thread who like the PS3 also own 360s...)

Of course, not everyone is a fighting game fan. we're psycho because we can play the same game for years and never get bored. You're totally right though.

When given the choice between a game that requires an active learning process vs. a game that requires holding the D-pad in a direction and press the attack button for instant gratification, it's no contest. the masses would take the mindless one in a second and cry that tekken sucks when they get beat down by the AI. :)

What I meant on crappy port is that the sound isn't as good as the PS1 version, and it just doesn't display as good. Anyway, PS3 already upscales SotN due to the PS1/PS2 upscaler (and yes, I can play them in full 16:9 without that shitty boarder). Plus, the atrocious 360 d-pad makes the game unplayable.

You're viciously defending a video game console on a video game message board. Lets not go around calling the kettle black shall we.

Judging by how people are comparing 360 to PS3 here are my thoughts.

(Note : I do not own any of these consoles except a Wii, but I have played them)

The Xbox 360 now has some good games out and great online for only 50 bucks a year. The console already has Platinum hit games that cost 30 dollars for those with a budget. Also Microsoft has said (a few months ago I think) they will make the Premium edition of the console go down 100 dollars near the next holiday season. Another important thing is that the 360 is taking PS3 exclusives. (Soul Calibur 4, Virtua fighter 5, GTA IV) The only real problem with the 360 is the RED RING OF DEATH.

The PS3 right now only has a few games right now that are good, but is going to have better games near the holiday season like Ratchet and Clank and Heavenly Sword. Even though soon it will be 500 dollars the 360 will be 200 dollars cheaper again near the holiday season. The big thing about the PS3 turning 500 dollars though is that it is still a Blu-Ray player / game console that supports 1080P and FREE online.

It's not your pick of in stock movies.

It's a selection from this site.

5 free Blu-Ray's.

Which model of the 3?

The free online with the PS3 shouldn't really count for anything, IMO. It is so absolutely awful that Sony should be paying its costumers to use it.

I know several who plan to get a PS3 during the pricecut (although not as many as $400, but still). I'm just glad I'll never have to see that stupid, annoying, $600 price tag again against PS3.

With the ALMOST being-
no universal friends lists.

smaller marketplace, no ability to see what friends are doing at any time and invite them to whatever you're doing at that time.

no gamerscore to ADD(because that's all it is, kids, an addition you're paying nothing extra for, even on silver) to the replay value of games.

Leaving things up to developers, resulting in delays and less capable online (See R6V, MoH Airborne)

Games will eventually lose online support due to lack of central infrastructure, even on very popular titles like MGO from MGS3:Subsistence. In that game's case, it was less than a year before it was shut down. Meanwhile, you can STILL play mechassault or Counter-Strike from Xbox Live's launch today.

The last one is a major problem, as I was very disappointed about MGS3 being pulled offline. What happens to PS3 online games in 5 years when you want to play some classics? Oops.

Gotta save up for an HDTV first, PS3 will be cheaper by then, and have more games. Just like I did with PS2 and PSP, and I love those systems. Being late to the party has it's benefits.

If they do allow you to access the xmb from the PS button, then that will be very helpful with inviting friends, seeing what they are doing, etc. Such a little change will make a huge difference.

Home already allows for ingame XMB access. If you're bad-ass enough to have it, that is.

There are a lot of misconceptions about PSN (not being able to see what people on the network are doing at that moment, for example). It is, in many ways, vastly inferior to XBL. However, there are a lot of people who seem to disparage the service offered by making claims that simply are untrue. I would, if one wants to criticize PSN or PS3, put their hands on a system and find out for themselves what is or is not true before saying something they're unsure of.

Damn you home-beta users :bomb:

Of course people have misconceptions. I mean, the PSN would have to totally suck. After all, Sony raped everyone's mother and ate all their children.

The "smaller market place" can be easily addressed. This is what I am REALLY wanting to see at this years E3. Just what is Sony's plan here. Sony has tons of content from all over the entertainment field to add up there. Also, the different regions have different amounts of content. Japan is flooded with PS1 titles currently.

Gamescore=Home's trophy room?

Leaving things up to the developers... We don't know just what Sony offers in terms of help here. I personally like the lack of need for them to pay Sony to moniter things and thus saving me some cash. The PS2 seemed to have this same issue starting off so we'll see. Also the games you mentioned are ports/multisystem games. I wouldn't think the online issues would apply to games being developed for the PS3?

You mentioned the future lack of servers/support too. One cool thing about WarHawk is that users will actually be able to use the power of their PS3's to host games directly like a server. Only thing that could happen is that they deside not to track stats any more (but really how much could that cost?), but players could still aways find/host matches. I hope to see that ironed out and put into more games.

from what I've been told, MGO was supposed to be temporary in the first place. It was a test of some sort, hence why they pulled it even though it was still very popular. Someone who knows more about MGS can fill this in...

No...the PSN is horrible. I'd much rather pay the $4 a month for all that XBL offers then the 'free' PSN that feels like Windows 3.1.

The console itself is a super computer with 10 times video processing power of regular PC. Only if I can use it as a regular PC with winidow OS, it'll be awesome.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Xbox live wasn't the greatest when it started. For the price PSN is decent. It still has a long ways to go and I'm sure just like MS they will continue to update and improve it. For me the PSN is better because I like to play on-line but I don't have the time to do it very often. It would be a waste if I had to pay a subscription fee. That was one of the factors that lead me to buy a PS3 over the 360. There are a lot of great games out for the 360 but I wanted the Bluray functionality, free on-line service, backwards compatibility, better hi-def connectivity (this has been remedied somewhat with the Elite system), and built in WiFi that Sony offered.

I'm not one of those dumbass Sony fanboys that hates all other systems. I like the 360 and PS3 but in my case the PS3 was just a better fit.

That is not me, that is a bunch of people in this tread with very short term memory. You are right though, the PS3 has only been out 9 months and within that time the xbox wasn't nearly as appealing as it might be now.
you mean 8$$ a month
It's $50/year which is like $4.XX/month and you can get it cheaper if you look around hard enough.

If I had a job this summer I'd be in for a PS3 now. $500 for the system + you get the 5 free movies seems like a good deal. Also since it plays PS1/PS2 games, it makes it an even better deal. I guess my 360/Wii will have to do me for now though since I don't have the cash :(

don't ask me, I didn't make the damn game.
take that up with Konami, considering it was their decision to take it down, not Sony's.

another thing, perhaps the most important thing of all, is that people don't understand that the PS3 is a work in progress that has a ton of room to grow-- where the 360 is basically stuck where it is. by the end of the year, the PS3 won't be the same system it is right now.

The structure of the XMB is completely wide open and modular, where as the the 360 dashboard already looks and feels a bit outdated and tacky (on a side note---orange, purple, and neon green? swoosh sounds? what the hell were they thinking...)

Hey, I like the 360 dashboard. The PS3 has a classy dashboard but I'm more than happy with what the 360 provides. If the PS3's dashboard is Monte Carlo, the 360's is Vegas baby.
