PSN Off-Topic - Happy Thanksgiving Chumps and Chumpettes!

So I was actually considering looking into what I'd need to start streaming PS3 games on Twitch, since I enjoy streaming and that would probably help encourage me to work more on my PS3 backlog.  But reading about it, it sounds kind of tech heavy (which I suck at) and also sounds like I'd need a good computer because I guess the computer has to do the uploading or something.

So, does anyone know how hard or easy it is to get all that set up?  And by anyone, I mostly mean Ninja since he's a pro at this stuff.  But anyone else can weigh in too.

Hopefully one day they'll develop a semi-functional PS3 emulator like they did for certain download PS2 games on the PS3.

Also I am going to laugh if get my 100 melee kills trophy in Vanquish just from killing the crystal viper in round 1 occasionally and the bogey in round 2 of challenge six with boost kicks.

Yes, but it's Dawson actually. Not sure why I keep calling him Dawkins.

EDIT: Oh, it was Zimm who called him Dawkins. That's where I got it from. Asshole Zimm.
That explains why I typed Dawkins into Google even though I knew it was Dawson. After the results I thought, "Who is this nut job? Oh... I somehow typed Dawkins instead of Dawson."

I was trying to find a picture of him where he was holding the question card with his pinky finger sticking out like a boss.

ETA: First it was Bob Hubanks instead of Bob Eubanks last week and now this. Zimm likes to fuck up game show hosts' names, confirmed.

I posted that right as a meeting was about to start. I can't be bothered to do research. Y'all knew who I meant.

But from now on I'm going to intentionally misspell names to see who I can get to believe me just to spite you assholes.

The biggest invest is a capture card, which will run you at least $100 maybe more, depending on how nice of one you want (but that's a baseline). Actually setting up streaming with OBS isn't a ton of work, even less so if you aren't bothered with all the webcam/chat/overlay nonsense I toss in with it, though you will need a decent computer to be able to encode the video decently (though unless you're planning on trying to stream at 1080p/60fps, which you shouldn't be anyway, I imagine most computers made in the last few years will work fine). I can walk you through setting it all up if you want, though I imagine there are tons of videos online that do a better job than me.

Thanks. Any specific specs I should be looking for on my laptop to make sure it can handle it at at least decent streaming quality? It's an El-Cheapo black friday laptop so it's very possible it isn't up to par. I'd hate to invest in a capture card just to have my laptop not be able to handle it.

It's almost entirely dependent on your CPU. Just open hardware manager and tell me what your CPU is and I'll see if it's something that can stream well. At the worst you might just have to lower the streaming settings to a lower resolution, which most probably wouldn't be bothered with anyway.

Wait, who gave it a 5/5? Vigilante? Guessing it's in someone's signature but I can't see on my phone. Fantastic movie. Don't tell me you don't like it, lol. Same guy who did John Malchovich and Eternal Sunshine.
I hated it.

And how can you not refer to him as the guy who did Adaptation? That one was amazing and why I bothered with Synechdoche in the first place. Eternal Sunshine was good. John Malchovich meh, I think I need to watch it again now that I have a little better understand of his style.

I'll do this when I get home, thank you.

Something like an El Gato is what I would need, right? Hardware wise, that is.

Adaptation is the only one of those mentioned I haven't seen. I've been meaning to watch it though. I liked John Malchovich and loved Sunshine

I'm not afraid to admit when I don't understand movies.  And Synecdoche didn't make a lick of sense to me.  It was one long, dull, drab, confusing mess.

Adaptation is awesome.  I had to watch it twice to get it, but the second viewing was enjoyable and hilarious.

Yeah, that would likely be the one I recommend (at least in that price range), as most of the other top choices have issues with OBS (the streaming software).
Thanks! Sorry I use you as my IT guy, hopefully my questions/requests are a bit more stimulating than the "Why is there an eyeball when I type in my password on Facebook?" and "What's Dropbox? How do I get a Dropbox? How do I share folders on Dropbox?" questions that you probably get from most people. Those are the type of IT questions I get from friends and family, anyway.

I tried those Root Beer cookies recently.  They arent very good.  Strike 2 for Zimm today.  Though the wrong name thing is something I do all the time.

BTW, I was away for a bit talking to someone about a new job.  It would be a nice bump in pay and the annual bonus would be at least double what I get now.  I am only a candidate at this point but probably the leading person to get it.  I just have to officially apply and then speak to 3 managers, all of whom are pretty high up.  #nervous

So basically if Vig or RPG win that contest, we give them an asterisk because they're using guides? I wouldn't have suspected Vig, but I knew RPG would never be able to finish a puzzle game without a guide.

If I didn't know all of the movies you're talking about, I would assume you mean "directed" when you say "did." Which is funny since Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine, and Synecdoche are all directed by different people.

Lab is only one mode, but I admit that's not much of a justification. There is absolutely no way to get the point trophies with a guide, though.

It's cool, I'm happy to save someone the time of searching for all of this info from various unorganized places on the internet like I did.

And yes, it's a lot more interesting than tring to teach my mother how to cut and paste for the millionth time as she tries to understand what gmail is.

Of your 47 plats I have 28 of them. The rest are sports games, rpgs, or fighting games which I admit I do not play. You have started 5 games I have the plat in and you do not: GTA 4, Red Dead Redemption, Little Big Planet, Uncharted 3, and Prince of Persia. I guess all of those only take 30 minutes but you couldn't be bothered to finish them?

Congrats on the one game I started and you have the plat and I don't: Mirror's Edge. I hate that game and didn't even finish story mode.

Have I played a lot of Japanese games lately? Absolutely. A friend sent me 18 of them in the mail to play and I am trying to get them done and sent back to him in between rentals from Gamefly.

At least when Jay gave me shit, he wasn't someone who also had played Hannah Montana, Terminator Salvation, Megamind, Sega Genesis collection, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, TWD and others for easy plat grabs just like I had.
Wasn't giving you shit, I knew you had non-auto plats.

The Hannah Montana/Megamind class of plats is fantastic if you spend a weekend with friends and force yourself through terrible games. Honorable mention to Terminator Salvation for its GOOD SHOOTIN' GUYS scene.
