At least this discussion got me off of what else I was lamenting for a few minutes.

Seriously, what is the downside to bankruptcy?  A huge portion of your debt gets wiped away, and the only drawback is you can't get any loans for a few years?  What am I missing here.  You're basically getting all the shit you buy for free.

I should just go on a luxury vacation all over Europe for a month, then buy a couple sweet new TVs and entertainment systems, then file for bankruptcy so that I don't have to pay for any of it!

Some employers look at your credit rating when deciding whether to hire you. That could be a problem. Other than that if you're able to not live off credit I don't see a real downside except that it's an asshole thing to do. "Yeah, buy me this. I'll pay you back. Suckaaa."

That's probably because in Weeds the main character is front and center and the focus of the show, whereas in OitNB, the focus is more equally split among the main character and the supporting characters (slightly weighted more to the supporting characters). If the series was 100% focused on Piper and Pie fucker it would likely be similarly insufferable.

I initially passed on the remake of Nikita but after the first season got such good reviews I started watching it and after the pilot binge watched to catch up with live for S2.Great series all the way through as after each season long arc it was able to change enough to keep things fresh.
Pie fucker. Not sure why that made me laugh harder than it should've but, free likes for you.

It just seems way way too forgiving to me.

I have a friend who works in collections and we always chat about it and it just floors me every time she mentions all the benefits to bankruptcy. It's fucking insane.

I wish they'd reinstitute debtors' prison.

Although it seems a lot of people declare bankruptcy these days because they can't pay medical bills, which is another entirely fucked up situation.

If you have a decent paying job its supposed to be pretty hard to file for the type of bankruptcy that wipes away the debt. But if you can get away with it or quit your job for a while and get it back it may be something you can do man.

It has what narcissist love, a socially acceptable way to draw attention to themselves Look at me, look at me, I'm doing something good, look at me, DUNK. Somewhat similarly I think the movie version of "All the President's Men" was one of the worst things to happen to journalism. A generation of narcissists saw two reporters get famous for writing an important story and didn't say "I want to be that person exposing corruption," they said "I want to be that person who got famous exposing corruption and have a movie with Redford / Hoffman portraying me." So now for many of those journalists, the focus is not on the news, it is me, me, me, MINE, my opinion of the news. Also rather than with , the personality's name is front and center in the title. It's THE REPORTER'S NAME with news.

Ah, another day of work where I spend all day trying to catch up, only to do it at the very end of the day.

I got Resistance vita for $8 with GCU.  Can't wait to get it in the mail and start regretting it.  I wish Tyler could stream it on twitch so we could watch him play while he talks about how much he likes walking and shooting and walking and shooting.

Stotch, BestKeeper, and Matt: if you can handle having another person who's never played TLOU MP before dragging you down, I'll play.

Velo hasn't responded. I know he has messages turned off or something, so unless he reads here then he'll probably miss out. You can join if you want. I'm starting soon, and I think Matty said he'd start soon too. Keeper will be on in a few hours.

It's not a hard MP to learn.

It's pretty apparent you've never fell on hard times financially Tyler. I hope you never do. Bankruptcy isn't a walk in the park.

My Dad had a very successful construction business that went downhill quickly after over 20 years of good success. My parents lost everything they owned aside from my moms car that was payed for, home included.

Just checked, median income for a single earner household in Utah is $49K. I qualify for Chapter 7. Even if I didn't, Chapter 13 still erases a good portion of my debt.

Did he not have the company setup as an LLC?

Charlotte is becoming the CAG PSN player hub of the SE it seems. I think the metro area here is over 2 times as large, and I do not know of another person in this thread from the area.
Forgot to reply to this. Hell yeah, more Charlotte CAGs. Welcome, PapaChillo!

AT&T announced they're bringing fiber speeds up to 700 Mbps to Charlotte right after Google made Charlotte a fiber finalist. And TWC announced some new supercharged Internet they're working on, too, in an attempt to remain relevant. In a few years we may go from a city with some of the absolute worst prices and speeds for Internet to one of the best.

do you have a mic, makes it easier especially for someone new. I finally figured out about the way to look through the walls... has helped immensely!

You're right, I haven't, but I also pride myself in the fact that I've made good financial choices all of my working life. Certainly I'm not immune to hard financial times (such as a major illness or injury) but beyond that I'm happy that I've set myself up where I am and will easily be able to weather most minor storms that may arise. And I really don't feel like it was all that much work that others out there can't do it as well.

I don't know many of the specifics, but he went incorporated when things were going good, but eventually dropped all that to try and stay afloat.

just takes discipline...

I agree.

Remember I'm the guy that lives in a world of puppies and rainbows and I'd love every game ever made to succeed. Obviously that isn't going to happen in reality though. There's no doubt these devs are over-valuing their games. I enjoyed Revenge of the Titans for a few levels on PC, but then I moved on. There's plenty of great tower defense games on Steam, consoles, and even mobile, and I'm sure some of them cost a lot less than Revenge of the Titans. I'm sure they work really really hard on their games, but they are over-valuing them as if they've created something amazing and revolutionary, which they clearly haven't.

This is the same developer who is charging $13 on PSN for a glorified Space Invaders clone. When Titan Attacks released a few months back I thought it was only going to be about $5 based on the look of the game and was shocked when they revealed the price. Who wants to pay $13 for a Space Invaders clone?

The situation reminds me a lot of Ethan: Meteor Hunter. The devs came out and said the game sold like shit and they were super disappointed and sad. They played the "poor us" card more than the "fuck all of you" card that puppygames is going with, which I think is a better way to go. Begging for money usually works out better then screaming "fuck you, you know you have some money. Give it to me you greedy fuck."
That's also the problem of developing on the PC platform as opposed to consoles. Each console generation they get to reset customer's expectation of prices as if you buy a console the first year you are going to be paying $50-60 dollars a game or you will have an idle machine. As the years pass it is harder to justify paying that $60 price as new games are not just competing with other new games, but quality catalog titles that are $10 to $30. As the quantity of catalog titles grows, it becomes easier and easier to wait for a price drop on new games as you have so many other games to play first.

PC has no such reset point, a new game is competing with a million other cheaper catalog titles for customer dollars. You can regularly get older (4-10 years), great looking and great playing PC titles on sale for the $2.50 to $5 range when you stack that up against a cheap looking retro atheistic game it's hard to justify paying their asking price. You quality can't be only average and expect to get $15 to $20 for your indie game.

That sucks. Sounds like he was trying to do the right thing for the business and ended up doing the worst thing for himself. I hope he has recovered from all of that.

Haha yeah pretty much. Unfortunately we probably talk about credit card debt more frequently then we bang.
The real question is does she only bang you because she knows you are not in debt? She may be keeping you as a back up plan since at least she knows you aren't a deadbeat (except in the eyes of the CC companies).

So people really feel pressured to donate? These people do know ALS isnt a new disease right? I mean where the fuck are these people every other year? If these people are that easy to pressure into donating to something I need to figure out what fund I can start.
Probably didn't know about it, which is the point of this campaign. I've never heard of it before this shit started. I just wish the challenge was harder.

I'm glad someone brought up the PC aspect, because I had similar thoughts in my mind.

To add to that, Steam/Humble Bundle/Others have really made PC gaming the best outlet for the cheapest of the cheap. Gamers bitch about PSN and XBL prices being too high, but that really does benefit developers quite a bit.

This puppygames dev sounds like he belongs developing for console and not PC. The entrance costs are higher (though they've come down over the years) but he'd probably enjoy the results more. Sounds like the kind of guy who would prefer 10,000 people pay $5 for his game rather than 50,000 people spend $1 on his game, even though the profits would be about the same.

They're doing ok now, his business is slow but steady. It wasn't like he made terrible decisions. He couldn't have predicted how things went. Hard to do any work when there's none available to do. The construction business in our area just went to crap literally within a few months.

Yo guys. You don't dump the ice to get out of or avoid giving a donation. You do it because it's a fun, easy, harmless way to raise awareness. If you dump the ice, you're still supposed to donate. Most people say $10 if you dump the ice, $100 if you don't. But don't be a dick and just donate what you feel comfortable with. What I hate is the people on FB who post email confirmations of how much they donated. That's just showing off with "Hey look how much I did!"

And I have a ton of friends who have donated and had no idea what ALS was until this summer. Some people just don't know about a disease until it has an impact on their lives. Something like this gets the word out and gets people to take a second and learn about something they may not have been aware of.

But really, being a negative nancy about this just makes you look like a real DB.
I'm okay with posting confirmations, it's to make people feel like they're being cheap if they donate less. That's why charities announce big donations.

She's probably have a better time with someone with a lot of CC debt. For example we went to Popeye's today and used a coupon code from a survey on the receipt from the last time I went. Two meals and a soda (which we split, of course) for like $6.xx.

I'm pretty sure someone with CC debt would be a lot more willing to treat her better.

My prorated refund check for Xbox Live finally came in today.  I had 11 months left on my account and somehow according to Microsoft math that entitled me to a $96.70 refund.  I would like to thank Bill Gates for buying me a 64gb Vita memory card.

and then one day boom, you're hit by a drunk driver or bam, cancer, and then depending on the quality of your medical insurance (heaven help you if you don't have insurance) you're buried under a mountain of medical debt. The price of health care fluctuates so much from hospital to hospital it is literally insane. http://www.medpagetoday.com/HospitalBasedMedicine/GeneralHospitalPractice/47248
