So I think I'm watching the VGX awards (I just turned it over from the MLS cup. :whistle2:()  Is this the worst thing ever?  I don't even get how the layout of this is working.  Have I missed any cool announcements?  I guess there is a Telltale Borderlands game coming out or something?

I've had it on in the background for the past few hours and its bad, but not as bad as years past. I guess they finally realized that no one cares about the actual game awards and they just want to see announcements. So it seems to be more like e3 with developers coming in and debuting trailers/demoes. That's cool, but all of the announcements I've seen were leaked weeks ago (Tomb Raider ultimate edition, telltale game of thrones game, cranky Kong playable in the new dk). The only thing that was news to me is the telltale borderlands game (I would be surprised if that's any good), Elijah wood is in the new double fine game (who cares?), and the Joe danger guys have a new game (that actually looks pretty interesting,).

Gotta love Naughty Dog.

I don't know if I'm gonna be able to A+ chapters 10 and 13 on Hotline, shit.
i dont know if they changed it when they patched the glitched trophies to work or not, but when the game launched you didnt actually need to A+ all the levels to get that trophy.

Well I got through the trials of Archimedes on my first try (on normal). The first wave was the only one that gave me a bit of trouble.

Ah, thank you, good sir. I had no idea what he meant by "tidies." I thought it was some obscure reference.
Yes meant tedious. Am tired and was using my phone. There's nothing wrong with people enjoying trophies and achievements but for me it's not fun. The Japanese RPG's are some of the worst of these where the trophies are completely absurd. Ni No Kuni, I finished the game, I'm not going to go grinding for hours on end to collect a bunch of stupid fucking monsters that have no purpose since I finished the game already. It's almost insulting because they clearly think your time is not valuable.

gamers have always wasted time on tedious tasks. At least you have something to show for it now.
No I don't, I don't upload my trophies because I don't care about it. I wish there was a way to not synch achievements on Xbox Live but there isn't.

It's pretty obvious you care.

Bummed I missed the Ethan discussion Friday night. It's an OK game that tried to do too much. I was one of those 6/10 reviews they mentioned. And I agree that if I wasn't reading that PS Blog a lot, I'd have never heard of it. I would have definitely regretted spending $10 on it, but for $5 or less it'd be ok. I think their assessment that they spent too much time on more levels and not enough on more soul is spot on.

Obviously I didn't mean "you" but gamers in general. And why do u care enough to NOT want to synch? If you truly didn't care about them then you wouldn't care that they pop or synch. What are u hiding?

Definace is ok.  It's not really a great FPS nor a great MMO.  It had some interesting ideas and is complete mindfluff.  Take that from someone who dropped $150 on the CE.  (facepalm)  Oh the CE's I've bought sucked and the ones I SHOULD have bought the CE I've spent hours and hours on.  Go figure.  At $2.50, if you play it for 2 hours you've easily made your 2 hrs worth.  It's cheaper than a movie... :)

I don't even know if the other guys above even played the game. It is absolutely worth the $2.50. I had purchased it awhile ago for $8, but just started playing it this week. It's been 5 days, and I just couldn't put it down. There's so much to do. The main campaign is enjoyable, but then there's the Arkfalls (where everyone gathers there and joins forces to take down these events), the Shadow Wars (where you join one faction to face off against another faction), PvP mode, Co-op mode both of which I have yet to try. To each his own I guess! But personally, I'm having a lot of fun with Defiance.

Is Defiance worth it. Seams like it will unsupported soon. Any thoughts?

I've been enjoying it myself, $2.50 well spent.

Agreed. It's a solid game that is probably better than it really has any right to be as a licensed MMO. The controls are really what makes it work.

Thanks for the feedback. Spending $2.50 shouldn't be a problem for anyone. I just didn't want to pay for something that will be shut down soon (MMO side). Price tanked gradually over 2 months and It seems likely to loose support from the Devs.

Oh, I played the game.  I felt bad cause I wasted the CE money on it.

But to be fair... shooting games aren't my thing.  I think the "rampage" mode or whatever it was called was the best part.  I thought that was fun.  Everything else was, eh.  I also was there the first week/2 of launch so things may have gotten better.  But again.. it's 2.50...

I also thought you'd have more pull with the show episodes.  They were fairly disconnected.  Oh she went from the show to the game.. ahhh... eh.  I had more fun on TSW.

So Terraria is coming out on the 17th...still no word on cross-buy. No one is outright denying the possibility, very frustrating. It will support cross-save and cross-play, though.

If it supported cross buy, they would have announced it already. That's not something you keep secret.
It is if the PS3 version is only $3.75 currently (50% off), though still, for $7.49, that's a pretty good price. I assume that will be the same price for the Vita version, though perhaps PS+ members will receive a 10% discount like many new releases.

If it were single player I'd probably get it for that price. I don't like playing online.

gamers have always wasted time on tedious tasks. At least you have something to show for it now.
It's funny because I always assumed the trophy obsession was a thing with the newer generation. I mean, yeah, back in the day I would do the odd task here and there or attempt to 100% games, but I don't think I ever indulged to the extent that trophies now require. There's a difference between "obtaining 120 stars" and "obtaining 120 stars in under 2 hours while blindfolded using the jump button only twice per stage". If that makes any sense. People truly did shit like this in 1992, lol? It's cool that they offer an added challenge -- I definitely enjoyed it with Tearaway. I guess the main thing I'm still ambivalent towards is how they make players approach games. If you're an efficient trophy hunter you're likely to examine the list and requirements before you start. I assume, perhaps wrongly, this sort of "trophy consciousness" impedes one's enjoyment of the game. But, then again, when I was going for the platinum in Tearaway, I was admittedly annoyed at some of the (avoidable) backtracking. So, yeaaah, I don't know. My opinion that no one asked for.

I used to see how many times I could beat Mike Tyson in Punch Out prior to going out to play for the day during one summer. I think I still have the password memorized (007 373 5963). Or how many consescutive 4 liners I could setup in tetris. Or how long I could tolerate the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles NES game. Qbert runs without escape disks. Super Mario speed runs.

Self made obnoxious challenges existed before trophies/achievements.

Back when I got Final Fantasy 6 (at launch in 1994), I tried to get every character to level 99. I got two of them to that point then decided it was too tedious and time consuming - and I didn't even have other (new) games to play! No they give an achievement/trophy for getting each character to level 99 and thousands upon thousands of people grind for hundreds of hours to do it and they've got massive backlogs of games they've never even played! I don't understand it.

The only RPG I can think of with 200+ hour grinds like that is Star Ocean, and fewer than a thousand people have put themselves through that. Or maybe you were using hyperbole?

I love trophies. I used to do all the stupid things to max out every game, and now I get little dings along the way. I've met cool people trophy/achievement hunting. Yay trophies.

Yeah SO4 is horrible for that. There's some others that I can't think of off hand too. If the number of people that got any particular trophy is in the 100's, you'd think the devs should realize they fucked up.
