EDF worth picking up for Vita? I've been on the fence every time it's been on sale. $10 is my buy price but $15 is probably okay too. Especially since there is that spend $50 get $10 back promo, but I don't know if I'll get there unless I pick up some stuff at /shudder regular price. There's been no announcements on next week's deal yet right? I didn't see anything in the OP and Frisky is usually pretty good about it so I assume this is the case.

2nd page of the OP, though Frisky has a typo in there labeling it deals for 10/1, those are really the announced deals for 10/8. There may be a few more but probably nothing major.

I'm passing on EDF. $10, free on PS+, or bust!

How the fuck are you supposed to play Hitman: Absolution stealthily on hard difficulty?  There's a thousand witnesses no matter what you do.  Everything I do ends up in a shoot out.

I may pick up THPS HD as my first PSN purchase. Is there a website with price history for these games?
I've been tempted by that, but it's on Steam with a normal price of $10, so it's a bit hard to swallow this "sale" price. I'm holding out for $2.50 on Steam (75% off), maybe $5 if I get really tempted.

Can anyone subjectively comment on the quality of the original Prototype v Prototype 2? I have #2 sitting on my shelf in queue, I was planning on skipping #1 (and still plan on it even for $10) but my mind could change if someone has a compelling pitch.
I enjoyed the first Prototype game personally. It was not an absolutely fantastic game, but I like the open world action games like it and inFamous. With that said, the sequel is more fun. It was not a challenge at all though. It was really really easy. The first one was very difficult to get the platinum for.

EDF has been dropping like a rock for Vita, isn't this like the 4th or 5th time its been on sale already? I don't doubt It'll be 10$ by the end of the year, I don't have the time to dedicate in it anyway

i bit on EDF and its satisfying. its only what, 12 bucks if you count the $10 back per 50. wont get cheaper unless its free. doubt ill be down to platinum it, but its worth a playthrough for that price.

Stop pulling my arm, I was just content with letting it go cheaper :)

It weirds me out that gamespot gave it a 90. It seems like this will mostly be a love or hate game. I still need to play Heavy Rain, I really don't get enough gaming time these days.
I'm a bit under the weather so I took the day off work and went up to the video store. I rented beyond two souls instead of dishing out the $60 for it. Hopefully I'll enjoy it as much as heavy rain. It was weird being able to rent something new on release day. Usually new releases are scarce for months.

Heavy on story, light on gameplay. It basically comes down to what draws you into games. I've always played games for their stories so I know I'll enjoy it.

I still remember the opening of Indigo Prophecy, and how fantastic I thought it was. After the intro movie, suddenly there you are, locked in a bathroom with a body, and people are moving toward you -- I loved the panic of it, and that there was no immediately obvious solution. How are you going to get out of this?

Yeah, that was a great opening for a game. I really liked it when my friend made me play it several years ago. After I did the first part, he showed me near the end of the game. I don't really want to know why the awesome game turned into Dragonball Z, but I lost so much interest in the game at that point. Heavy Rain was fun, though. I didn't really replay any of it, but when it was cheap it was totally worth it for a playthrough.

I really think the best part of Heavy Rain was replaying parts of it to see how it affected the outcome. I always wished those outcomes were more extreme or further reaching (i.e. a decision in the first chapter drastically affected the ending) but I think those decisions were pretty few and far between.

Beyond: Two Souls getting hit pretty hard on metacritic.
We've had this debate ad nauseum, so it isn't my intention to stoke the fire again. It's just really, really funny what "patterns" some people here like to point out while others they willfully ignore. Sony consistently places release-day embargoes on titles that score poorly. This most recent case, yet again, also shows that Polygon more often than not beats the critical average for Sony exclusives. I fully don't expect anyone to retract prior statements.

*crickets*

As far as I'm concerned, Beyond looks decent enough that I'd certainly tap that (get it? 'tap that'...ya know, 'cus that's all you'll be asked to do in the "game"). My issue with Heavy Rain wasn't so much the limited interactivity, but rather its disjointed and terrible story. I struggled through it. Looks like they may have at least improved in this department, though.

A fond farewell to the constant stream of free updates to Soul Sacrifice today with v1.30 - a bunch of level 10 difficulty stuff that you'll undoubtedly sob through with a bunch of lousy randoms as they steal your trash mobs. Really though, 5 months of extra content for free after release just ain't too shabby.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/10/08/soul-sacrifice-updated-today-with-16-new-quests/
What does "steal your trash mobs" mean and why don't I want them to do it? I haven't started playing Soul Sacrifice yet.

That's what I'm hoping. I always liked the general atmosphere, settings, and minimal gameplay in QD's games, but the storytelling in both Heavy Rain and Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy was just so darn awful that it ruined the experience for me. Based on the demo, ti does seem like they made some strides forward with Beyond, but it's hard to say, because their games tend to get more ridiculous and nonsensical the more you play them.

Also, if Colin Moriarity found a way not to review a big sony release over at IGN, you knew it was not going to be good.

The blog said Crash Team Racing and the other Crash and Spyro games would be $2.99 for PS+ and $4.99 for non-Plus, but they're all showing up as $3.99.  Hmmm.

Short version - you replenish your attacks (generally) by killing little piddly monsters that roam around the area and sacrificing them. So, you have to use your limited use attacks to kill the piddly monsters (aka trash mobs) so that you can replenish a greater number of attacks (mathematically it works, trust me) and continue wailing on the boss.

It's not uncommon for the less considerate to swing by and sacrifice your trash mob kill, thus making the attacks you used on it a total waste. For you I guess, not for the stealer. Sometimes it's by accident, sometimes it's by necessity, and it's still less frustrating than being on a team with someone who thinks they can solo a high level cerberus by sacrificing all three teammates.

That game is fun as hell, just writing about it makes me want to go back to it.

Same here. I feel that's why I enjoyed Last of Us and despise/bore of GTA5. I thought the demo was very cool but I can't pay full price, so I wait.

If they do that and say you die, do you still get the full benefits of beating the boss? I think SS will be my next Vita game.

It weirds me out that gamespot gave it a 90. It seems like this will mostly be a love or hate game. I still need to play Heavy Rain, I really don't get enough gaming time these days.

After enjoying the Beyond demo I decided to finally play Heavy Rain last week. It did not disappoint! I ended up pre-ordering the game and will pick it up after work. Those average review scores kind of scare me, but I think I'll enjoy it. I'd recommend picking up HR since it's pretty cheap now.

nope! if you get sacrificed, you miss out on the equivilent of xp for saving/sacrificing the boss, but you get an extra offering for being a sacrificial lamb. after a while you won't care so much about the offerings and will get miffed about missing out on the xp, so there's plenty of rage to go around. definitely go in for it next, it's great fun - most of it can be done solo but the online really is handled magnificently and (in my experience at least) performs very well.

Ohhh, that fuckin sucks then, I'll probably just stick to solo.

To be fair most companies do this. People who think otherwise are just being naive. That said, Sony tends to allow most of their big exclusives to be reviewed early regardless of score.

On a different note, I can't quite figure out what to make of Polygon. They seem to focus more on gaming's impact on society. Always reviewing or critiquing a game with an eye towards elevating gaming as an art form/experience rather than discussing a game's technical short comings. Personally, that's not what I look for in a game review.

fwiw that scenario is pretty rare and usually that person will get kicked before the next round (or if they're the host everyone leaves). people that don't suck outnumber those that do and they're pretty good at moderating (or at least they were a few months ago when I was still active). don't shy away from it on my account.

Getting high level spells from a few online matches really speeds the solo along. The AI companions are pretty sucky and you'll be able to attach to groups that can kill 9-10* difficulty archfiends long before you could do it alone.

Even if you get sacrificed and miss out on XP, you get a decent offering out of it -- which is more than you'd get for failing alone.

Bottom line: online is totally worthwhile.

I have no idea what any of this means. I'll try it out and see if I like it, I'm sure I can find a group of good people to play with and just stick with them.
