Yeah, I didn't find out about that until near the end of Pittsburgh when I was faced with my first shiv door I couldn't open due to lack of shivs. I had only used a shiv on an enemy once out of necessity (clicker standing in the mall near the ladder who never moves.) I did a search to find out if Survivor has enough parts to unlock all the shiv doors and discovered the glitch way too late. Now I have to wait until I find enough shiv parts and melee weapons to make that happen.

 
Sounds like BS to me. The game is done and they are likely just going to manufacture it anyway and sit on it. They must be tracking Doom Eternal and are seeing weak physical sales even with shipping and curbside pickup options. FF7R will tell them how well a major exclusive will do in this situation.

^ Yeah and I think it may be more tracking RE3.  People want to play Animal Crossing escapism right now, not post-pandemic suspense.

I'll bet FFVIIR does extremely well.

Incidentally, I have been playing through the first Last of Us (PS4) for the very first time over this past week. I'm currently on my second playthrough (Survivor+) right now. Overall, I thought the presentation was great. Graphics, story, voice acting, mood, all that stuff really hit it out of the park. The gameplay itself, however, was the weak spot for me. I'm not a fan of stealth games and this was basically "Stealth Game: The Game." Move too fast near a clicker and you're either dead or have to waste one of your precious shivs (which are the only way to get into storage rooms.) Get heard or seen by any sort of enemy and it spawns a whole slew of them to take you down. Not fun having to waste over an hour or two in one hallway trying to sneak past an army of zombies, especially when your freakin' companions keep getting in the way or alerting the enemy.

I'm just saying; I wouldn't put it past any business to want to cover their butts in that manner.

I'm skipping Grounded because it's not required for the platinum. I honestly didn't want to play it through a second time on Survivor, one time was enough for me, but those darn trophies keep calling me back. I imagine the online mode is going to be a slog since I already want to move onto a different game and I'm not really a big fan of tacked-on online modes.

Not unless they lower new game prices for digital. Many collect and many trade in after they beat the game, you can't do that with digital. I only buy digital when on sale or it's a multiplayer game like battlefield that I can play with my son online and share psn.

I would also like a PS+ family plan type thing. I have 3 kids, so my older son and me share PS+ and the two younger share my Xbox gamepass/live with me. Would be nice to have a bigger option like the Nintendo family pass, specially since they are getting older.

The US needs way better internet before digital can take over. Where my family lives (and i lived for a few months) there was only one internet service available and it was so slow it took a few days to download a 40GB game

I'm one of those weird people that thought Resident Evil 3 was the best in the series, so I am hyped for it's release in about 100 minutes

 
motorstorm apocalypse was delayed in 2011 because it was supposed to be released right after an earthquake and tsunami happened IRL.... and the race tracks had catastrophes happen in each one, such as quakes and tsunamis. I ended up importing a UK version because it was delayed much less than the US version.

Yeah, plenty of titles have made their launch dates just fine. I think it's a perfect storm of Sony being greedy for sales and sensitivity of the game's plot. Bad call IMO, but I'm not exactly excited for the game either so couldn't care less.

I find it interesting that this is how you read it.
I didn’t read the explanation of the delay as them being sensitive to how it relates to COVID. Instead, it sounds like they just didn’t feel great about one of their biggest franchises launching out like a wimpy wet fart. Sounds like they want to wait until stores are open like normal again so that they can really have a normal/proper launch day.

I think it’s Sony once again being clueless to the actual market. Best Buy, Target, Walmart and amazon are all open and shipping or letting people pickup. Digital sales go on unaffected and people need things to do more now than when shit is being put back together and people are catching up with work and school. If it’s done they should have pushed it up, gained some love from the public and boom sales go out like doom and animal crossing are benefitting from.

Yes, it's only for store credit at Rite-Aid, but it's not hard to find cleaning products, medicine, candy, or toilet paper there.  Also, the GameStop credit can be used to purchase either PSN, Nintendo, Steam, or (additional) XBOX credit from the GameStop website.

 
Did the preorder skins for RE2 ever become available on the PS Store? I didn't preorder RE3 and would like to get those at some point.

Except they’ll miss all the physical in-store purchases, as well as the marketing-based sales. Not to mention the fact that many people who would have purchased the game currently have no income and have to worry about food, rent and bills instead.

EDIT: GameStop in-store purchases I mean. Also, I forgot to mention that some people aren’t willing to go to physical stores right now even if they can pick up at Best Buy.

For me, I wish they would release it, but I do see the reasoning for doing it. The game would have a less than ideal launch for many reasons.

The media backlash for releasing a game set in a pandemic during a pandemic is just asking for trouble. It is a Sony exclusive so the press would squarely be focused on them and I am sure the last thing Sony wants is negative press leading into a console launch. Not hard to understand the delay.

RE is about a virus and that game seems to be selling pretty good...

I don't know why many people still think it's because of pandemic in real life vs the game. Neil Druckmann has stated that they might do a digital release but many retailers don't have the infrastructure:

I think resident evil would have also been delayed if it had a May release window. RE3 was already shipping and arriving in stores mid to late March before things started getting bad and by all estimates April into May will be the peak in the US.
Last of Us has probably not gone gold/started pressing to disk so it is much easier to delay.
 
I feel like when people see the Resident Evil games, they automatically place it into the "Zombie" category. Zombie media seems to get a pass in situations like this regardless of whether the zombies were created by a virus or not.  I know it's splitting hairs, considering the "monsters" that are in Last of Us could be considered as zombies, but I feel like LoU hasn't really crossed into that category yet.  Media watchdogs see Resident Evil released and they think, "Oh, another zombie game." They see Last of Us released and they see, "Game about a global pandemic."

RE 3 mentions the words "pandemic" and "quarantine" in the intro, I've seen no backlash

movies focused on a pandemic are being watched constantly on netflix and other streaming services right now

the pandemic is not a good reason to delay

This is what males me think it’s more out of business concerns. If anything the game would draw more interest with the pandemic going on. But getting copies distributed and having stores accessible enough to sell them is questionable. Probably the right move overall

I suspect it will be around $5ish eventually. It's falling maybe not as fast as say a RE or an Assassin's Creed, but it fell in price relatively quickly. Most games do. Especially AAA titles.

 
The Last of Us is touted, marketed, and praised specifically as part of this sort of politically-woke games movement. Resident Evil, on the other hand, is not just not part of woke domestic politics, it's not even a product of the domestic market at all. In fact, it's about as far from woke US politics as possible: it's a game developed in Japan.

Make no mistake, the game is definitely being delayed because they expect decreased sales due to fewer people going out to stores. But they can definitely pass off this kind of an excuse much easier than other games.

The RE3 vs Last of Us comparison falls flat on its face when you consider that they are more than a month apart in release dates. In the current climate of uncertainty, that may as well be a year plus. We're in a global recession, supply chains are broken, etc.
