Not super surprised since they messed up their HDMI 2.1 firmware on their TV recently too. Feels like they're not really ready to launch yet.

 
How many here are going to wait at least a year before getting a next gen console? I didn't buy a PS4 until the Darth Vader Edition came out. I have so many games in my backlog right now that I don't feel like I need a Next Generation console yet.
Seems too soon IMO.

Do we know if psvr games are going to look and run significantly better on a PS5? I love my psvr but haven't really seen Sony talking about it a lot.
 
I am completely happy with my Xbox One X and PS4 Pro... and I think they will be fine for the next year (at least.)  Add that to my PC, and I'm all good for a while. 

 
I want one but not yet. I'm not a fan of things not being ready. I ended up canceling the 4K TV I bought for it.

That, and I'm really not a fan of how the PS5 looks.

I'll wait till the slim just like I did for the last 2 generations. Phats aren't worth the trouble unless another PS3 situation of limited bc happened. And I doubt Sony would be THAT stupid to do that Twice. I do own a phat PS3 but it is not a bc model and I got it new from Amazon for 40 bucks which is the only reason why I have it.

They haven't been able to finalize either the code or the certifications for available drives. Simple as that - it's the usual crunch in the runup to launch; everything desired is never complete or available on day one.

Obviously they wouldn't lock out this feature by choice. That has benefits for precisely no one.

 
I have no desire to beta test a console for a company and will happily wait for a better looking version with better storage options and an acceptable number of games worth playing

This is my exact mentality. I didn't buy a PS4 until nearly 2 years after they came out and I imagine I will be doing the same this time. I'm actually hoping to finish my PS3 backlog first and that's going to take a while.

Same here. I didn't buy a PS4 and Xbox One until the respective Slim versions had been released. By then there were plenty of games to choose from. Between the two of them alone I have a huge backlog that will keep me busy for a while. Add to those my PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360, NSW Lite, and DS/3DS backlogs...

 
The hits just keep on coming:

1. No expandable SSD

2. No 3D audio

3. No 1440p

4. Peripherals released 2 weeks early so retailers will have nothing to offer at launch.

5. A list of incompatible PS4 games that is sure to grow with them using the community to beta test.

6. Destruction All-Stars delayed because it has no shot at being the next Rocket League or Fall Guys at $70.

I actually just started selling the sealed and rarer games in my backlog back in August I got from sales and such. Biggest one was smt 4 apocalypse. Paid 4 bucks for it and sold it for probably 40x that.

Debating getting a digital edition if I can next week. I have a shit ton of rewards points at Best Buy I need to burn but then again I may just wait. I’m in no hurry.
 
Yeah, I figure anyone who'd want those peripherals, and plan to buy a PS5 on launch, are probably the same people who would have bought the peripheral the moment they were available two weeks early too.

Was that from when Target took $15 off all 3DS games? I got one too, but i unsealed it because the pins were pressed up against it and i was afraid that they would puncture the cover art due to how cheap Nintendo was with those awful 3ds cases.

Sadly, my copy of FRWL on PS2 is still only worth about what I paid for it, sealed.

Last gen was my first time adopting early (I've been around since the Atari) and I completely regretted it. The only games I had were cross-gen (AC: Black Flag, Lego Marvel and Battlefield 4) and there were bugs, missing features, and an overall sense of "meh." PS4 honestly didn't become a great buy for me untl about 2016 (good games and PSVR), and XB1 has really only been great since BC and GamePass.

I learned my lesson, and I have no problem waiting.

Do we know if psvr games are going to look and run significantly better on a PS5? I love my psvr but haven't really seen Sony talking about it a lot.

Did you see the interface for Miles Morales? Looks exactly like Spider man. I know it’s not horrible but it just makes it feel like dlc.

I have a simple rule I use for determining when I buy a console: I’ll only buy it once it reaches a price that, added to the price of the game I most want for the system, is at or under the price I’d be willing to pay for that game alone.

It means I generally start a new generation a bit closer to the start of the next than the start of the gen I’m buying, but I have a large backlog, so that’s not an issue. And a console has little to no intrinsic value beyond its ability to play games, so the price I pay for a console itself is effectively a tax for the games I’ll play on it, anyway; it’s easier just to attach that to a single, highly desirable game than to try to anticipate how that cost will end up being distributed among all the games I’ll ever play on the system.
 
I'm hesitant on getting my PS5, but I'm 1000% sure I'll retire my launch day PS4. Playing some of those games enhanced since I never got a pro is a plus, and I already am using an external HD to play PS4 games for the most part. I'll play CoD with friends on PS5, which is good enough for now. Playing BF4 with friends helped me with the PS4 launch, which had a bunch of poopy games IMHO. I usually wait, but eh I got to order one so whatevs.

It is DLC, if there wasn’t a console launch, I guarantee it would have launched as $30 or $40 dlc for the base game. However, it’s a great base game and it looks like Miles Morales will be great too. But make no mistake, this isn’t a sequel to Spider-man, it’s a 1.5 type deal.

Frankly, none of the issues mentioned regarding the PS5 bother me. As long as it has relatively strong backwards compatibility and solid exclusives coming out in the future, I’ll be happy with my purchase.

I’d really like to get a Series X at launch, because I don’t care about console wars and like having access to all console exclusives, but I honestly can’t justify buying one without using MS credit simply because there are no launch exclusives and it’s been challenging to sell my 1X for a decent amount. I think PS5 will dominate sales this holiday season.

Well the downvotes I got on Reddit says it’s not Spider-Man 1.5 but I agree with what you said. I also feel the same about the Series X, it very much feels like upgrading your PC’s graphics card and ram but simply playing and enjoying the games you already have in a different way until new games come out.

Jokes on you, Target at least will be one week late with my charging stand order regardless due to it being perpetually back-ordered. Meanwhile every Walmart in my state shows as limited stock but when I call they can't find any.

I think the bigger miss here is NOT having shipped peripherals on-time to retailers.

It's no surprise things feel rushed this year, because they did. I still believe they should have delayed until next year, but companies took the business route of capitalizing on stay-at-home orders to give people something to buy for it. On the one hand, it seems like a consumer-friendly gesture but realistically there's nothing of value here besides next-gen graphics and load times. None of the launch titles exclusive to next-gen are game-changers, even Demon's Souls because it's just a remaster from 11 years ago. Godfall isn't even true exclusive either, now that they've stopped lying and shown it to be a 6-month timed release (it'll be on Steam/Epic store after). And Xbox has absolutely nothing but Game Pass, which is still fantastic--but didn't need new hardware to be good.

That said, I'm still buying both because I can afford it and want the new shiny next week. No other reason really other than because I can.

Reddit is always sort of weirdly sensitive ... love the site but their karma system is pretty broken. I think people are sort of sensitive given the content of the Miles Morales game and current events, which makes people react oddly.

My criteria for looking at it is, same engine, linked to the story of game 1, and at 8-10 hours it’s clearly not a full-blown release. I think it will be a great game and I could see a Spider-Man 2 that incorporates co-op with Parker and Morales, which has never been done in a Spider-Man game but could be really cool. Also, my fingers are crossed for venom, carnage, green goblin, hobgoblin, and other big name villains in the sequel.

I doubt I'll have any interest in buying a PS5 at the very least until they've done a slim redesign, however long that takes.

I'm usually quiet on here, but you are just legit delusional if you think anyone gave a shit about Destruction All-Stars prior to it being announced as a PS+ game or enough to make it think it's a strike against Sony or even the game itself in someway.
