Simply put, I haven't been interested in any of the offerings. The one game I might have tried was Vanquish, but that was EU only. They got another game recently I'd have tried, but I can't remember it atm.

But they're free. Why not try them? You may be surprised.

I would still pay for Plus if they got rid of the free games and kept cloud saves, discounts, and automatic updates.

Man, EU PS+ owners got Sleeping Dogs this week, What the fuck is up with that? I guess us Americans can't have everything go our way ;)
the best feature to me is the ability to download and installing patches/updates overnight
This, to me, is the worst part of plus. The ability to download & install patches/updates when it's convenient should be free... The way the Non-plus PS3 handles it now is so dumb it blows my mind.

No way I'd pay for plus without the free games. I'd drop plus and probably only use my PS3 for blu-rays (like I used to before the IGC) The 360 just does everything better and that's where all my friends are.
One really nice thing about this thread is that everyone is pretty much able to express their opinions rationally and like an adult. I may almost 100% disagree with some of you, but thanks for your input guys, I find it interesting to see what everyone thinks.
I completely agree, I also like the vibe I get from this thread.:grouphug:
I'm tempted to finally get Critter Crunch. $1.40 is a steal. I enjoyed the demo too.

I'm in the process of knockin' out my backlog though. Down to 14 games. I'm hesitant about addin' another to the list.

How long is the SP for Critter Crunch?
I take it no one has CC then? Lol.

This.

As someone who was initially in the boat of "man US PS+ sucks compared to EU", after finally getting around to playing some of the free PSN games that I really knew nothing about like Quantum Conundrum and Outland, I went a head an renewed for another year.

Since I don't plan on stopping buying disc based games any time soon, I'm fine with getting a good mix of both full retail and PSN games for free with PS+.

If I ever get a Vita I might be interested in cloud saves more, but right now all I use PS+ for is free games and extra discounts, and I'm happy with it.

Yeah, as Jim Sterling said - that and trophy syncing isn't a feature, it's a fucking fix. At least it's not like XBL where they keep things like Netflix behind the iron curtain.
No idea. Most the people who have suggested it said they're tired of "weekly disappointments" and would rather get it all out at once. Which is terrible logic. Maybe someone here can give a slightly better reason as to why they'd prefer monthly updates over weekly ones?.
Who wouldn't like to know what's coming for the whole month instead of just waiting until every Monday to see what will be out the next day? They don't have to show everything since deals and such can fall through, but games would be nice since those are generally locked down far enough in advance to facilitate that.

I'm not quite sure how long it is since I don't think they have stats to tell you how long you've played, but it has quite a few levels in there that can get fairly challenging. It's still a lot of fun to play as they introduce new wrinkles to the mechanics throughout the campaign.
Any opinions on heroes of might and magic on ps3 vs ios?

It's $7.49 psn vs $4.99 ios currently. I don't have an ipad to play on, which touch arcade says is the way to go but wanted to see if there were other opinions?
I don't think it would be a very good game for an iPhone/iPod Touch since the screen is so small. The campaign takes about 35 hours to complete with all side stuff done, which works well to play in long, addictive chunks or short bursts on a console. I've played through it twice (DS, PS3) and I'll probably do another run with the XBLA version later this year.
I love the game, but I think its pretty shady that they used a Kickstarter to come up with money for the Twilight Zone license, and then turn around and ask double for it when it releases. I will still buy it eventually, but i'll make damn sure to game share it.
Why is it shady? Compared to the normal costs of putting out most tables, the Star Trek and Twilight Zone tables have a number of licenses to work out that are more costly than the vast majority of licensed tables out there. Rather than constantly apologizing to fans that wanted them about how they were too expensive to fit the model that they're working with, they took a chance and were able to crowdsourcing the licensing fees to help offset a large part of the financial risk of doing those tables, which would've resulted in more expensive tables had they not gotten them.

All of those people got their tables along with the rest of the DLC as a thank you, which was more than most paid for in the first place. If they didn't come through for the developers, you wouldn't have the table at all and then the issue would be about why they won't license the tables, so this seems like a much better alternative. The tables still require a little bit extra to cover development costs and all that associated with bringing the table to the game since they're still a business and have to try to make money so that they can release more tables. They've even gotten more licenses signed as a result of those Kickstarters, so it's pretty much win-win for everybody that's willing to understand what all went into bringing those tables to the game.
You guys don't get flipper lag with Pinball Arcade? I tried to transition to the PSN versions from 360, but I found them unplayable on the PS3 due to lag in the exact same setup that had none on the 360.
Works just fine on my Vita.
Would love the ST Next Generation Table to come to life.
It'll be coming along in the near future since that was another successful Kickstarter for them.
Yeah, as Jim Sterling said - that and trophy syncing isn't a feature, it's a fucking fix. At least it's not like XBL where they keep things like Netflix behind the iron curtain.
I agree here too. It doesn't use any of Microsoft's servers to facilitate Netflix. So there's no reason for them to require money from you to use it. But they appear to be working on making it open to silver members too. (like it should have from the start.) In fact I'd love to see a gold members option to use smart glass with netflix (for added info and stuff) and the basic version for silver members.
PS+ still has a way to go to catch up to XBL but it certainly is impressive. A definite move in the right direction by Sony.
If by way to go you mean they would need to fall off a cliff, then I agree. PS+ has been exposing Xbox Live as the rip off that it is for some time now.

I don't follow? Sony still has a terrible interface and doesn't have the party chat feature that MS does. Don't even get me started on the need for first party game servers...

Thanks. I'm gonna go ahead and get it. Haven't bought a puzzle game since Super Puzzle Fighter anyway.

Imminent despair ahead. The freaking Dark Souls DLC is going to take me forever to get to due to me beating the game. Sad part is I'm like 20 hrs in on the 360 version right now. I can't take this.

Just updated so that you can do airplay over iPhone/iPad and Apple tv. Not saying that applies to Sony at all but I think it's a step in the right direction to get HBO Go onto other devices.

Xbox Live doesn't have "first party game servers" either... but that's not really my point. I think the approach Microsoft laid out back in 2005 for the Xbox's online is better than Sony's, no doubt about it, even though that has shrunk to being really small in 2013. But that's about where the praise stops. There was a more recent article that I thought summed it up even better, but this one sums up about how I feel:

http://kotaku.com/5939245/gold-vs-plus-how-sony-is-making-a-mockery-of-xbox-live

Summary, Xbox Live charges your for stuff it has taken away from you (that $30 DVD players have) like Netflix and Youtube. Sony charges you and actually GIVES you something in return.

False. You need to kill the gargoyles, Quelaag, Iron Golem, Ornstein/Smough, and the Hydra. It goes very fast, I went back in a fresh NG++++ and it didn't take me long to get there at all.

There really is no excuse for xbox to charge you a fee on top of a fee to watch stuff like netflix and i have no idea why they thought it was cool to make you have to pay for party chat when it used to be free.

Have you played any of the newer tables on your Vita? I have the first four and they look and play great on mine, but people are raging over on pinballarcadefans.com about the declining quality of every table released since on the Vita. They have screenshots for TZ on there that look pretty bad, and they're saying Scared Stiff is the worst looking yet.

Well ok, was just getting into it with my 360 character but I guess I go back to PS3 for a while. I will for a fact be playing this game forever due to my love for it and that is very impressive that you are NG++++

I partly agree but you are short changing M$ and XBL. If their service sucked then why does Sony give away free shit. It certainly isn't because they love us. XBL is extremely profitable business midel for M$ and IMO the better online service.

I just played Twilight Zone for an hour on my Vita and think it looks fine. Certainly not as good as on the PS3, but still good and certainly playable.

I much, much prefer Sony's approach. Free online for all. If you want to pay, it's completely optional and in exchange you get the IGC, discounts on games, and some fancy services that are cool but not needed (auto-updates, etc, trophy syncs, etc).

Giving away 'free shit' was part of Sony's approach. They wanted to encourage people to buy ps3s in part by providing something MS didn't -- free online. Yes, XBL is very profitable because many people in the US own xbox's to play various multiplayer games. Hopefully next gen they realize that best be free.

I think you are missing the point. Sony gives away free stuff because the point of the service is to give away free stuff. You seem to be implying they give away free stuff for some other reason. You get the exact same online whether you pay for Plus or not. The service is strictly a loyalty program. In that respect, maybe one could argue that it's an apples/oranges comparison.

The only thing I agree with is that obviously Live is very profitable for Microsoft. It's something they "got away with" this time since the competition either shipped with effectively nothing (Wii) or took several years to get things together (PS3). I can't imagine they will be able to do that this time. Finally as someone who is a current subscriber on Plus and paid for 3-4 years of Live, there's no question to me which is the better value. I grudginlgy paid for Live feeling like they had me over a barrel since I only wanted to online game occasionally. I happily pay for Plus.
The only DLC table I have is the Twilight Zone table and it looks pretty good to me, so I don't really have the experience with it to be that obsessive about it.
Who wouldn't like to know what's coming for the whole month instead of just waiting until every Monday to see what will be out the next day? They don't have to show everything since deals and such can fall through, but games would be nice since those are generally locked down far enough in advance to facilitate that.
Me. Like I said, it gives me something to look forward to start my work week. I actually LOVE how Sony is currently doing things.

Thursday = Blogcast and usually an announcement of some upcoming sales
Monday = PS+ Update
Tuesday = PSN Update, which sometimes reveals even more sales that weren't announced.
If by way to go you mean they would need to fall off a cliff, then I agree. PS+ has been exposing Xbox Live as the rip off that it is for some time now.

I like you. Well said. I got my most recent year of Xbox Live for $20 here on the trade thread from a guy that was desperate to unload. I don't think I'd even pay $35 for it at this point. Most of the best sales on XBLA aren't even locked behind Gold anymore.

I actually have a sneaking suspicion that Sony is going to try and charge for online play on the PS4. They are trying to rope in as many people as possible with PS+ now by making it a ridiculously great value and get them "accustomed" to paying a $50/year subscription fee. Then they're going to lock online-play behind PS+ for the next generation, but will still continue to offer free games as well. Just a random thought I had.
I know I'm late but Dokuro is pretty awesome. Finally getting some Vita play time in since I'm sidelined from surgery.
Dokuro is great. It and Gravity Rush are my favorite Vita games so far.

Ignoring the XBL vs PS+ debate now because it's become an arguement about value and that's subjective.

These things you've mentioned on the blog are all the same with a monthly update except for the monday part. Still get Thursday sales updates and the Tuesday store update. And Monday instead of getting our IGC revealed we still get the bonus sales and other promotions revealed. So, you still get what you're looking for AND know your IGC games well enough in advance you can be excited for them longer or be disappointed once and look forward to the sales.

Now that's funny!

Looks like the new Home update adds some new things for PS+ people:
PlayStation Plus Improvements
 • Extra functionality has been added for PlayStation Plus members.
 • PlayStation Plus members will now be able to select custom colors for their hair and make-up.
 • The color menu now has an additional customize option containing a color picker.
 • The last 8 custom colors that you have used are also kept in a palette so that you can select the exact same colors again if you need to.
 • The D-Pad can be used to switch between the color picker and the palette.
 • The number of character save slots for PlayStation Plus members has been doubled from 24 to 48.
 • An additional 8 pop up colors will also be available for PlayStation Plus members.
 • PlayStation Plus members can choose to display a PlayStation Plus icon on their character label.

Your PlayStation Plus subscription must be active to access these features.

Not really, but I'll hop on every few months when I hear about interesting games on there.

I just said this same thing to my wife a few days ago.
I am very scared that this will happen but praying it won't.
For the record, I don't think it's crazy to pay for Xbox Live I just find it to be a bad value that's gotten progressively worse as time has gone on. And here is that article I was trying to find:

The only reason sony is offering what they offer is because they was so far behind in the online race. For years it was rediculous. Downloads taking forever. They are headed in the right direction but once they cacth up see if games are free.

I don't think Sony will start charging. Xbox Live had many subscribers cause people were already sort of locked in that ecosystem. I think with the next generation, free online will be a big selling point since PSN and Live are almost on the same footing. They'll likely have party chat or whatever this go around as well.
Now that's funny!
Sigh... The issue isn't that XBL isn't a good service or that people don't love free games. The issue is that we're trying to compare the value of 2 different things. I think paying for reliable online play and party chat are worth the extra money. I also think "free" games are worth the couple bucks a month I pay for PS+. I don't think either service is "getting away" with anything. I think they're charging for services and features people want.

The thing is people like to say that the quality of features between PS and 360 are the same but they're not... So here's the problem. It's a subjective discussion about how much you value X and Y.

I would give up all the games we got for U.S. PSN for party chat. I really miss that when I had an xbox. And I agree it is really subjective as someone else probably plays alone and it wouldn't matter to him/her.

I can see that, but I can also see Sony charging for online play AND including free games and discounts with the service.

They'd still be able to claim a better value than MS, since XBL Gold doesn't offer free games.

Live is more reliable than PSN? How so? Really the only thing Live has over PSN is party chat and I wouldn't be surprised to see it on the PS4 considered the Vita has it now.

And it's not really that strange to compare the two. They both cost the same and one gives you a lot more than the other.

Well, I just upgraded my 160 GB HDD to 1TB (931GB) HD. Now to start downloading everything again. Thank for the advice everyone that helped me.

Xbox Live is so successful since Microsoft had that platform in development since the 1st xbox. PSN was only created along with the PS3's launch. Sony had to learn and make mistakes as they went.

Over the past 6 years MS has not done anything to improve Xbox Live except a price hike and adding more multimedia apps to justify the paywall. Sony has slowly added in-game xmb, trophies, PSN store app(it used to be literally a browser), and PS+.

http://us.playstation.com/psvita/apps/psvita-app-party.html
The PS Vita can already do party chat, so the PS4 will most likely receive that feature as well. The only reason to pay for xbox live gold is cause you have to in order to play with your friends. Would anyone here really pay for xbox live gold if the online was free for everyone?

Live servers are so much better.

Everything that requires the internet streams so much better on 360 then PS3

I've never had issues with either which is why I refuse to pay for Live. Free>Not free. I'm not going to pay to have the honor to access Netflix after also paying for Netflix. Back in 2006/7 there was no argument that Live was better, but that was 6 years ago. PSN has improved a lot since then.

And based on what it streams so much better? If thinking that makes the money you spend on Live feel justified then cool I guess.

I feel I have a much better experience using Netflix and Hulu Plus on my PS3 over my 360. Maybe it's just me.

Back on topic, Critter Crunch and Closure so far for me this week, as well as the All Star new characters and Ni No Kuni familiar.
