I've never had issues with either which is why I refuse to pay for Live. Free>Not free. I'm not going to pay to have the honor to access Netflix after also paying for Netflix. Back in 2006/7 there was no argument that Live was better, but that was 6 years ago. PSN has improved a lot since then.

And based on what it streams so much better? If thinking that makes the money you spend on Live feel justified then cool I guess.
A large majority of people get terrible speeds on PSN compared to Live. If you don't, great, but if you don't think it's a legitimate issue then you aren't looking. They only now released a web store where you can purchase games, still offer no auto-download for games purchased on the web interface, and don't allow you to download when the system is on standby. I'm sure there's more, but that's what I could think of off the top of my head.

I've always gotten great speeds on both so it's never been an issue for me. The web store for 360 is nice, but it's not something I ever used. I don't see myself ever using it for PS3 either to be honest. I'm never in that much of a rush to buy something. Downloading on PS3 is fine for me too, I just start whatever and have the system do auto turn off when it's done.

360 has those nice features if you use them I guess, but they're not even close to being worth $1 to me much less $60. I don't even pay for PS+ even though to me it's actually worth the money.

Those are just my personal feelings about it. It's hard to pay money for something that's free on something else (and just as good IMO). I'm done though as to stop derailing the thread.

Derrick the Deathfin seems like it would have been a better fit on the Vita. It almost looks like a precursor to Tearaway.
Yeah, it does look like it would be a good fit for Vita but also fun on the big screen. I just finished up Mutant Blobs Attack and I thought it was perfect for Vita. Little platformers with digestable levels have a natural home.
Derrick the Deathfin is a good amount of fun. There are about 32 short levels, where the goal is to get from the beginning to the end of the level without dying. You have a "Hunger Timer" that quickly drains, so you have to be eating other fish frequently or collecting gems, otherwise you'll die. Gems and flaming tires are the two collectibles in the game, and each level gives you a bronze/silver/gold rank after you complete it, so there is a little bit of replay value if you want to go for 100% of the trophies. I'd say it took me about 5 hours to 100% the game.

The controls are pretty decent, they just take a little getting used to. It's a cute, fun little game that I'd say is worth $4.
Sounds good to me and thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to pick it up. It almost sounds like Feeding Frenzy with platforming, which is awesome. Short levels are always a positive to me with unpredictable gaming time.

Also, I agree with everyone bewildered by the hate that PS+ gets and that they want to get the "disappointment" over with once a month. What the Shaq, man? If it's so negative to you just don't subscribe to it. No one is forcing you to pay for it. The list of games is public so you aren't going into it blind to the type of benefits you'll get.

PS+ is currently my favorite thing in gaming and the value is just insane. I bought a Vita basically as a Plus machine and I don't foresee ever running out of content thanks to that initial hardware investment. Forgive the crassness, but a lot of people are just stupid.
How is Critter Crunch? For those who played already?
I liked it, cute little puzzle game, though it can get hard towards the end.
Sigh... The issue isn't that XBL isn't a good service or that people don't love free games. The issue is that we're trying to compare the value of 2 different things. I think paying for reliable online play and party chat are worth the extra money. I also think "free" games are worth the couple bucks a month I pay for PS+. I don't think either service is "getting away" with anything. I think they're charging for services and features people want.

The thing is people like to say that the quality of features between PS and 360 are the same but they're not... So here's the problem. It's a subjective discussion about how much you value X and Y.
Sorry, I wasn't trying to start an XBL/PSN debate. I was more laughing at the quote

Ignoring the XBL vs PS+ debate now because it's become an arguement about value and that's subjective.

because every single PS+ US/EU argument on here as well as all the arguments about whether or not PS+ US is doing a good job is based on the perceived value of the games to each individual, and is obviously very subjective. Sorry, I should have been more clear.

You're welcome, hope you enjoy it. I'd say it's kind of like Feeding Frenzy, but with full levels and collectibles, and with a less "casual" feel.

Ah, I see. yeah, it's the eternal problem of the world. I think one way and you think differently so one of us is right and the other is wrong.... Some times that's the case... most times it's not.
You're wrong about that though. My argument is about general perception, something a bunch of gamers so hardcore that we scan for deals every day are not really in on. So when the casual gamers(and make no mistake they're the ones that fuel the industry, not us cheap asses waiting for deals) saw Sleeping Dogs it had very little to do with subjective value or quality of the game and much more to do with the fact that it was simply so recent a game,

Same could be said about Retro City Rampage, regardless of how it played, it was still a very recent game that we were given free. The perception then becomes "Sony is giving us current relevant things"

The casual gamer who wanted to play older titles usually did already. The cheap asses here waiting until they were $5 have a totally different perspective and can be "Hey Darksiders, cool"

But the fact is the perception of the average gamer is what is important. Those people pay for Xbox Live without questioning the value simply based on experience, word of mouth and because their buddies do. So we aren't arguing the actual value of these games which would be subjective, we are arguing the perceived value of these games which is not. When EU gets hype for releasing a current game the perception goes down. Sony needs to watch that regardless of what you think. Hardcore people on gaming forums don't pay the bills, we are the core but we aren't the profit.

Final Fantasy VI-IX are all great and the store usually updates anywhere between 4-7PM. Can you tell me this since I answered your questions, do we get to keep the free games when our PS+ expires?

No.

But if you ever get PS+ back you get access to those games again.

Sarcasm VI - IX are good.

We all know the store updates on Mondays and Thursdays. I love getting 2 updates each week.
Couldn't pass up VC2 for 10 bucks. Loved the first one.

Sucks we'll never get the 3rd.
Just be ready to face palm with the story. May do something against the ToS if that fan translation of VC 3 becomes a reality.

Special thanks to whomever was behind the nearly 1 GB "update" for Playstation All Stars (Vita) I had to download yesterday.

My memory card is very appreciative.

Not.

Very good game, though there is a bit of a learning curve and gets pretty difficult at the end levels.

I noticed that the THQ catalog on the EU PSN store received a permanent price drop today. Any news on the US store getting this drop? They are listed as Permanent drops on the store.

No news as of yet, it would be cool if Vigil Games also put Darksiders 2 on US, regarding other news I love what they are doing on Europe letting us choose what we want I'm voting for Ni no Kuni and mass Effect, cool games and even cooler free even though they are examples and might not come who cares: Ni no Kuni in there guaranteed vote from me.

I know some people in this thread were curious about Let's Fish! Hooked On and now IGN has a review up for it. The review isn't too favorable.
VC2 is a Sega game, which means it'll likely go on sale for $5 soon.
Usually that would be about right but they tend to price their JRPGs at a fair price: the DLC for the first game took forever to drop; the last time this installment saw a price reduction was when it was bundled with its DLC for $22 this time a year ago - it was then removed and I think remains removed; the Phantasy Star games seldom saw price reductions, were abruptly removed from PSN and still remain gone. Considering the lukewarm reception of the PSP and even lesser with Vita in addition to the fact that you need to transfer this title from a PS3, I would be more worried about this game being removed from PSN than any further price drops. $10 is still a great price for this game. In fact, other than this Final Fantasy sale occurring right now, I can't think of a single other JRPG hitting $5.

But by saying 'paying for reliable online play' infers that the PS3 doesn't have that. I've put tons of hours into Warhawk, Battlefield 2 and 3, and other games without issue on my ps3. All of my buds have mics - mostly people I found randomly and gelled with during a game or two. I watch Netflix several times a week with a great picture and no lag.

And it's free. It's not some broken ass online system like you infer - it's perfectly fine.

And while yes, 'cross-game chat' has been the rallying cry of people who hate psn for many years... I simply can't imagine it. I don't need it or want it. Sure, I want ps3/4 to get it to stop people complaining about it, but if i'm playing Battlefield 3 i want to talk to my team, and if i'm playing an SP game or watching a film I don't want to talk.

re: charging for psn next gen -- I seriously doubt they will. They've built up a following based on free online pay, and came up with a way to supplement income with PS+ that is catching on and doing well. I don't see themselves shooting themselves in the foot.

This lol, if it's that important to talk to other people playing different games, just get their phone numbers.

What a dumb argument against party-chat. Party chat is one of the best things about XBL. I'm not crushed about it but I do miss it now that my PS3 is my primary console.

Yeah, but arguing that PSN is inferior because it doesn't have it is equally stupid. Cross game chat is such a frivolous feature compared to what's really important when gaming online.
Looks like Sonic Heroes might be coming to the US PSN as a PS2 Classic soon, as it's been re-rated by the ESRB for PS3.
Cool, I have it on Gamecube. Hope Shadow the Hedgehog gets added as well. I never played or own Shadow.

Looks like I should have waited a bit longer to renew my PS+ subscription. Nothing this week for me that would make use of the subscription.

Probably get Valkyria Chronicles 2, even though I have the UMD in my backlog. Just to support the cause to hopefully see VC 3 someday get translated and put on the PSN.

I personally don't care for cross game chat because I don't want to talk to people that aren't playing what I'm playing. Wouldn't that just get in the way of my game?

But I can't say that it sucks either because I've never had that experience, so who cares. If I get extended time to try it, then I might like it. I might not as well, but as of now I can't have much of an opinion on that.

What's wrong with just playing your games? Don't care what you game on. That is your business. Just like how I game and what I choose is my business. Plain and simple no?

As for Critter Crunch... what a steal. I've had this since almost launch of the game, and it is fun. This price is just insane. Go Capy.

So this Captain Crunch game is pretty good from what everyone's saying? I'd have to buy a new psn card just to get it as I will not put my credit card info in the ps3.
Guys, shut the fuck up about PSN vs. XBL and Final Fantasy. I don't want to see this thread bumped again until next week's sale is announced.
Sorry mom.... Didn't know I was forcing you to look in this thread when you clearly know that no new info is coming until the weekend.

About cross game chat. It's incredibly useful to see that my friends are playing such and such. So I hop on chat and see what they're up to. Playing SP or MP? Just checking out what the challenges are for this week? Going to be on for a couple hours? I don't have to boot up the game, hop into his game, just to find out that he wasn't even there and it's just sitting idle... Want to chat about this weekend? whatever.... it's just so much more convenient to hit them up right there. It also means that if we get DC'd we don't have to wait on him to jump into our game to chat or if we're in the middle of a match we can chat it up while we wait on him to join us. Plus the chat is super clear. There's no in-game chat I've used that's been anywhere near as clean as the party chat is.

I guess if you don't have a cell phone that might be useful.

Or some type of instant messenger. Or Skype. Or just send a message on XBL.
I don't even like talking to the people I'm playing with.

I dont even like people
People that play PS3 are antisocial!

Why would I use those other things if I'm already on my Xbox? That's like saying sending a letter is more convenient...

I think we found the real culprit! Now it's a matter of the chicken or the egg. Were they anti-social before they started playing on PS3 or because of it?
No news as of yet, it would be cool if Vigil Games also put Darksiders 2 on US, regarding other news I love what they are doing on Europe letting us choose what we want I'm voting for Ni no Kuni and mass Effect, cool games and even cooler free even though they are examples and might not come who cares: Ni no Kuni in there guaranteed vote from me.

We had that survey here in the US as well, a couple months ago.
Critter Crunch is NOT playable on the Vita right?
No. It's a PS3 game.

Well I may pass on it then... I was going to pick it up to play this weekend. I just don't have time for those types of games when I'm in front of my tv. Stupid backlog challenge!

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I have never been interested in party chat at all. When I play games (be it singleplayer or multiplayer) most of the time it is "my" time. If I really want to chat with friends I would rather go meet at a bar or somewhere else and be social in person. The games will always be there when I get back anyway.

Maybe that is me being old fashioned and not relying on technology like most people do these days to be that social outlet.

Back on topic though... I probably need to look at picking up FF4:CC and Dissidia Duodecim since have those on UMD and would like to play on the Vita.

Oh yeah, I love hanging out in person but for some of my friends that not really an option. So instead of trying to drive several hours to hang out we can hop on chat while we're gaming.

i can understand not using CC details anywhere, but it's potentially just as 'dangerous' to use CCs at stores as online. Heck, gas stations are the worst for it, but other chain stores have had issues with employee cc theft.

Sony already had one hacking incident (which wasn't nearly as bad as the media made it out to be... and mind you, I've had my CC data with them since day 1, and haven't changed it, and never had any issues) so if anything, they're more secure than most places since they've had to re-invest in security.

You can see what all your friends are playing on PS3 by clicking the ps button (even if you're in a game), and going to your friends list. It will even tell you what map/game style they're on, and it will usually tell you 'in menu' if they just logged on or are idle (in which case, just send them a quick note).

I've never had to boot into a game just to find out what people were playing.

They're cheap enough that I just went ahead and picked up origins (1+2), 4 complete for PSP, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Tactics: war of the lion, and Dissidida 012. I'll probably never play them all but I'll never have to worry about not being able to, shame 3 wasn't on sale too or I would have picked up the whole set (minus crisis core which still isn't on PSN).

For those that have gotten the bonus 3 PS+ months, does it show up at all in your transaction history (or anywhere else)? I redeemed a one year code and forgot to check my expiration date beforehand and I didn't see any messages about the additional 3 months.

Edit: Looks like (assuming I never redeemed any additional months) it worked fine based off of my first PS+ one year redemption.

hey guys thanks for your help. got 100% on GoME. Ended up winning a 45 min round with 35 kills as Agandaur. I had awesome support with Radagast, Eowyn, Galadiel and Helifon guys. terrible at names but something like that. They had 20+ assists each :) Hardest part is not getting canceled out of your shockwave move and then having to wait another 45 seconds. I ended up getting a few quad kills and super over powered on 1 lanes. Peace all

also anyone try the Skyrim Dragonborn dlc? is it as bad as fallout 3 or playable? thanks

This is my problem too, but less because I care about my backlog and more because I just don't always feel like turning on the ps3 for smaller games anymore. I want to bang out Critter Crunch, Unfinished Swan, and Closure, but since I can't play them on the Vita I just kind of ignore them for now.
