:whistle2:k Will price tank if i wait till Monday? :whistle2:k

Have 9 games = $98.19
I think it'll depend on the types of games you have. If they're newer releases that fetch a high value (e.g., Infamous: SS, Dark Souls II, :ps3: MLB 2k14, Titanfall), then I can see them tanking within the next couple of days. Older releases with lower values, not so much.

Then again, who can say? I'm not all that familiar with Target's algorithm for lowering TIVs.

:oldman: :oldman: games.

Just finished Assassin's Creed 1. Played ~1 hour of AC2 afterwards. Man, what an upgrade.

Then I realized that I also bought Bloodlines in the recent sale. I guess I should play that before 2, since Bloodlines stars 1's MC and has much closer gameplay to the first game. I doubt I'd want to step back from 2 to Bloodlines, based on how much better 2 seems to control so far. Oh well, it's 7.5 hours long according to HLTB. That's not too bad.

So is 2 generally regarded as the best in the series? Or is that B or R?

Just finished Assassin's Creed 1. Played ~1 hour of AC2 afterwards. Man, what an upgrade.

Most people would probably say 2 is the best. Black Flag has had a really good reception as well. I personally liked Brotherhood a little bit more than 2, but both are excellent. Revelations and 3 have had the worst receptions (except for 1) but I haven't played those yet.

I like 2 the most. I just started the SP for 4 this past week, and so far I really like it. It might end up being more favorite than 2. I thought I was going to hate the ship stuff after 3, but it seems a lot more refined in 4. Plus, pirates are fucking awesome as long as they're not being run into the ground by Disney.

Why is 2 the best? For story reasons, or do they introduce gameplay elements later that don't work out well (aside from the poor ship approach in 3)?

I'm sorry for your loss of money. I guess if you're that dedicated to the series that you bought it, then play it, but the only thing it really offers are some minor bonuses to AC2.

AC2 was really good, especially that ending, but their desire to exploit Ezio for two more games that add nothing to the overall story was a shame.

the addition of a couple famous pirates is also more enjoyable than it seems at first.

Finished Call of Juarez: Gunslinger on Hard Mode. What a pleasant surprise that game was--I loved the storytelling technique and overall aesthetic, plus the gunplay was very fun. By the time I play a NG+ for the remaining collectibles and skills plus complete all Arcade Mode levels (I don't have the time or patience to try 3-starring all Arcade Mode levels), hopefully I should be ready to start Wolfenstein :)ps4:) on Tuesday. :bouncy:
I started this yesterday and agree. I was playing Saints Row IV which was extremely disappointing after I loved The Third. Decided to take a break from it and try something different and was floored by how much fun Gunslinger is. Highly recommend.

Jump in quality from 1->2 is big, and then once you've played one Assassin's Creed 2-style game playing basically the same exact game a second time isn't as interesting. If for instance, one played Brotherhood or Revelation first and then went back to 2 they would probably say whichever of the 3 they played first was the better game.

The ending, much like the one at the end of the first game, opened it up for some really awesome things to happen as your mind raced to wonder what it means and where they'll go. Then they saw how well AC2 sold and decided to put the overall story stuff on hold in a comically cartoonish fashion. The continued success of the Ezio epic trilogy lead to them thinking that the best thing for AC3 was to go all-in on that Animus story, which means you don't even play as the main character for several hours because they were so full of themselves that they thought that was a great idea.

At least ACIV allowed them to just reset things a bit with an incredible real world set-up and focus on the ship combat and the core mechanics of the Animus simulation. [customspoiler='Awesome ACIV Spoilers']You're a newly hired game tester at Abstergo Entertainment, makers of AC3 and Liberation, that is given the task of playing these parts of Edward's story to see if they're good enough to be included into ACIV, which includes a ratings system.[/customspoiler] It's just a shame that they blew what was leading up to be a great overarching story and wrote it off as an unimportant part of the game now.

As much flack as AC3 gets, I'd say it's he best in the series just on being able to pull of the colonial era alone. I liked the story and the plot twist. Also I liked how the environment changed as you build your own community.

The sloth damsel is cool. Or it would be if it wasn't a stupid Easter egg you have to unlock in painful fashion each session. Disappointing.

select the pug damsel over and over about 100 times and he changes into the sloth. Only lasts until you quit Spelunky

I have a question about the ps4 installs and why they are so big. When I bought Infamous (disc) and it fully installed, did it install all of the data from the disc? What happens to disc thereafter and subsequent times you play the game? Does the ps4 constantly spin the disc and read the data like on ps3? Or does it only spin the disc every so often to authenticate the disc and install but is running the entire game from the hard drive.

I tried listening to my ps4 when running a game and I can't hear the disc constantly spinning like the ps3 (which constantly read discs even after install). It seems like with the ps4, I'm only hearing the hard drive, processor etc.

Does anyone know the answer to these questions? I'm wondering about the wear and tear of the ps4 disc drive and whether it is an improvement in this sense over the ps3.

That was one thing that annoyed the hell out of me in AC1 - the lack of persistence. It pissed me off that I could go around slaughtering guards and always have more pop up in their place almost immediately. That was a nice thing in Infamous 1 (which I also played recently) that I wish AC had had. Do later AC titles ever add that?

AC3 was soooooo big. Big in a bad way. I was always traveling traveling... Really butchered what could have been a great story. I have been desperately waiting a digital sale of ac4....

I think the lowest it's been was $25. AC3 still hasn't dropped too low, but at least it was PS+ already.

I always go into each AC game thinking it's going to be mediocre and almost all have surprised me. AC3 surprised me the most. I started out hating the game but slowly fell in love with it. AC4 was awesome too It was my first PS4 game and it was well worth the money.

Is anyone else excited about those ps1 imports? Sarara's Little Shop sounds awesome - hopefully it's less cutesy than Recettear. Tokyo 23 sounds original. No doubt these old Japanese games will meet the high standards I've set in my mind.

I haven't played it, but I've heard nothing but bad things about some weird tower defense thing they included in Revelations.

It installs the full game, but you need the disc for verification purposes so you can't just sell it disc for a cheaper game. It's also done because the disc drive is the weak link now in determining load times and all that compared to the fast RAM, processor, and all that in the PS4. I'd imagine for that reason that the drive isn't running while the game is running, though you could probably do a test by taping a long piece of thread to the top of the disc and seeing what happens if you really need to know.

PS3 installs weren't necessarily the full game most of the time, but just data that would be more useful if it were accessible from the HDD instead of the disc.

Since I like you guys, here's a free 7 day PS+ trial code:

PR6J-57N4-BJ8L (it says expired 3/31/14 but may still be valid? )
If anybody in here doesn't have PS+ then they're in the wrong place.

In other news, I'd been hating on Dante's Inferno because it just felt too hard in an unbalanced way. Turns out I'd set it to hard mode at some point and had no idea. Switched it to easy and suddenly it's way more fun. Like, bosses go down in 30 seconds just from blasting them with holy crosses fun. Nice.

I'm not good at all in 2D fighting games like Street Fighter, but I got all the way to the final boss of Skullgirls' story mode before being unable to beat an AI fighter. That's more because she has three cheap hit-filled forms that tests the limit of my limited training mode time and button mashing skills. The training mode is quite good and explains a lot of the mechanics pretty well for me, an idiot when it comes to 2D fighters, which makes me wish Capcom had an ounce of desire to do something similar in its games for me to care about them. The only issue I saw is that they only refer to attacks by LP, MP, etc. and not the button you've assigned to them, which I can sort of understand why it's not there by default despite it being at least a nice option to have for those that would remember moves better that way.

Fighting games are boring.

Thanks, And I pre-ordered Wolfenstein and Watch Dogs from Best Buy (GCU) so I'll be good to go over the next few weeks.

I hope Youtube can provide some much needed server muscle to help Twitch iron out its issues, but I hope that doesn't come with increased content blocking and gating of features that YT does to newer/lesser used channels.

the tower defense was dumb but not game breaking. Ac3 sucked because it seemed to have more glitches than any other ac. And the cut scenes were the worst offender. And it was so big and boring to traverse.

Sounds like you need to git gud.

I'm surprised Tyler isn't blowing up in here about how Watch Dogs is going to be bad because it has an embargo for the day or release.

Sounds like you need to git gud.
Isn't that what I said? I suck at 2D fighters, but Skullgirls has a really good tutorial mode to make it easy to understand the mechanics it has and get better at it. Even playing a few of the lessons helped me nearly beat the boss of the story mode while I might be only able to beat one fighter in a Street Fighter game because they can't offer a basic tutorial mode for people like me. With the 15 versions of Street Fighter IV out there, you'd think one of them might want to teach people like me how to play their game.

Just finished my Grounded playthrough on Last of Us.  They definitely oversold how hard it would be, but it was still really fun.  I had forgotten just how damn good that game is, even though I'm sure most of you hated it.

I havent played it yet but know I would hate that grounded playthrough

Has Tyler ever said that about releases and embargoes?

And about Ass Creed, I wanted to love 3 so bad, because I am in love with colonial era history. I just couldn't do it. One of my biggest complaints was actually something that was mentioned here; it was just too big. The fast travel spots were far too spread out, and half the time your objective wasn't anywhere near one. So you waste 10 minutes running to it, only to have to turn right around and run back. The frontier was a cool concept, but eventually I'm just sick of running through the woods. At least with the Italy based games, they mostly kept you in the city.

And I actually liked that minigame in Revelations.

It really wasn't any worse than Survivor.  Humans flank you faster, and infected hear you easier, that's about it.  I played way too conservatively and ended up with tons of ammo and items on the last level.

My list of Assassin's Creed games, from good to bad:

1) Assassin's Creed

1) AC Brotherhood (It could be a tossup with 1, since Cesare Borgia really elevated this game)

3) AC Black Flag

4) AC 2

5) AC3

6) Revelations

Wait, assuming that Twitch acquisition is true, why would YouTube want it? I didn't know they - or video games, for that matter - were a big deal. As far as I know, I nor anyone I know has ever watched a Twitch video.

How is it actually different from Survivor? naughty Dog didn't really make it clear anywhere that I caught it.

There's no HUD, so you don't know how much damage you've taken. You can get a good idea if you're in the red, though, because Joel walks differently and holds his side. And you don't get a counter for bullets on your equipped gun, but you can switch weapons to see how much ammo you have. Also, some checkpoints are longer. If you die anywhere in the hospital, for example, you have to start back at the beginning of the chapter.

Besides that, I think you take more damage, and infected battles are definitely a bit tougher. They hear you much easier. Humans gang up on you a little better. But if you made it through Survivor, you'll make it through this. I had less trouble on this playthrough than my Survivor one. It helps that everything's a pattern 98% of the time.

Control over a rapidly growing video site and its userbase that does something better than them (streaming).

What do you mean assuming it's true? It's on every news site out there that Google is in talks to buy them. Some are reporting it's done, others are reporting it's still being finalized. Not sure what other proof you need.

And you might not think Twitch is a big deal, but why do you think it was such a push for the latest generation of consoles to have live streaming and Twitch support? Just for shits and giggles? Just the dollar amount of the purchase alone should show you that it's a pretty big deal.

I don't think I've ever mentioned much about release date review embargos, if I have I don't remember it. They're definitely not a sure-fire sign that a game is going to be bad, I actually think people overreact when they hear something has an embargo til release day.

I'm also not that interested in Watch Dogs. I hope it'll be good but I won't be getting it til I get a PS4 which is still a ways down the line. The hype has definitely died a lot with the delay and downgrade-gate.

You'd think with the last 25 years of 2D fighting games people would pick up at least some sort of basic understanding on how a game works. Not everyone grew up in the arcade, but expecting someone to hold your hand through every step of just learning how to play a game is ridiculous.

The joy in fighting games originally came from seeing a move list, attempting a few and seeing what that move did in relation to others. Then you adapt, learn, and better yourself with what you've accomplished so far. Those tutorials are decent for people who've never played a fighting game before, but it kills the joy of finding things out on your own.

Then again we live in a world where the most popular games have hour-long segments of just walking and having people talk at you to explain everything that could be done by just playing the game on your own, so who knows.

When I look at this list in all it's accuracy, I'm glad I didn't waste my time after playing that shitty first game

I don't think anything about it now when a game has an embargo. Just as many highly reviewed games have them these days as poorly reviewed ones.

There was someone here who mentioned review embargoes always equal shitty games, but it wasn't Tyler. I believe we all even started posting examples to prove that person wrong. We probably drove them out with torches and pitchforks, too.
