Not every PSN sale week is going to be a good one, but that's fine. I skipped the sales this week, but did buy Super Mutant Alien Assault for PS4 (haven’t tried it yet, but it looks like a great little arcade style game). Doesn't upset me when the sales are mediocre, I already have a huge backlog.

In All Deals reducing the list to games & bundles there is QBert (cross-buy so the 3 copies count as 1 and even then this game has been on sale, I think, since launch), The Loot bundle, The Banner Saga Complete Pack (bundle of both games), The Banner Saga, Color Guardians (cross-buy), Daydreamer Awakened Edition, and Fluster Cluck. I'd count that as 6 games despite 1 being on permanent sale and another being a bundle including one of the games being sold separately on sale.

Re-Play sale has 11 games (as I think all are crossbuy). I'm not counting the soundshapes addon dlc as a game. It's on sale as are a bunch of icons and themes in the All Deals page but I don't count them as games.

In the PS+ discounts page, it shows two other bundles. One for Ghostbusters move + game, and another for Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds that has been on sale for what seems like forever and has no end date. I wouldn't count either in the weekly sales.

So all in all there are 11 new games on sale this week, 7 of which have been on PS+ as free.

So easily one of the worst sale weeks ever.
I mean, there aren't even any typical barely advertised Atlus sales or random Sega games or anything. The point isn't a complaint that there aren't games on sale, but that this could be another sign that like last year on the 3rd Friday... this, being the 3rd Friday coming up, is more likely the Flash Sale. Granted not everyone keeps PS+, but still that's only 11 unique games in the new sale. Forget the 23 number as that's with all those cross-buy duplicates and a dlc. 11 unique games. 7 of the 11 have been PS+... so for anyone that maintains their PS+ account and gets the licenses every month for the past ~two years (like me)... there are only at most 4 games possible to purchase from this sale.

I see there are some other games on sale still like Gravity Badgers... but yet they don't show on the Sales pages and it appears it's for the entire month. So not really part of any weekly sales. So really there's even less that should be counted when discussing weekly sales and how this Week stands out as completely odd. So few games. An unprecidented percent of those games being former PS+ freebies and likely the rest having a very high percent chance of becoming PS+ freebies due to being tied to the same PLAY promotion at launch.
I used the OP for that count, just in case you're wondering. ;)

Unless you're actually going back through every update to check the numbers, calling this the worst sale ever is hyperbolic BS. If nothing interests you, that's cool, but that doesn't really qualify it as one of the worst ever. Every low key week seems to cause these same kinds of hyperbolic reactions.

The reason for the 23 number is that's the number the store shows when you click on the sale...

Didn't say it's the worst sale ever, just pathetic.

And 99% of the reason for PS+ for me is the freebies. Only play MP with 2 people, don't play with random players anymore. And those two are a long time friend of mine, and his son.

The monthly top downloads/purchases list show the freebies are near the top most times don't they?

I think you quoted the wrong post since I wasn't responding to you there, unless both of you are the same person.

That's fine if all you get are the free stuff, but that's the minority of PS+ members. That's why sales of games that have been free before aren't worthless offerings.

They don't put PS+ games on the Top Downloads lists. It's all purchases.

I've only had PS+ for a month or two.  Since they don't repeat the free games anymore, I'm glad they'll still put the titles on sale in the future.

I thought they were on that list? I remember rocket league on ps4 being much higher than Xbox one in terms of downloads, mainly cause it was free that month.

Really this is the only week I have posted anything about it being a weak sale. And it's cause of the high # of ps+ games in the sale.
Which made me think there will be a flash sale this week.

I got excited when I saw Deathspank The Baconing on sale. I'm not sure if the DS games have ever been on sale, on either console. I figured for sure all three games would be on sale. Nope, just that one. Wtf?

I'd be very happy if they worked with publishers on discounted DLC and Season Passes when there isn't a strong lineup. I think if some season pass or any good DLC (I know the smaller and free to play games DLC does go on sale, but that's not the point I'm making).

TBH, I really need to cut back on my spendings and I'm catching back up on Assassins Creed Rouge, and working my way through the the Uncharted collection (ok so I already technically played these games, they just hold up so well).

Cheers (Hype! ... Sorry still watching all the GDQ speed runs)

Precisely. I am sure a lot of people pay for Live/PS+ just for online MP and don't pay much attention to the monthly freebies.
The ones I don't get are the many people who do pay attention to the monthly games and then just choose not to take the 30 seconds to claim them in case they change their mind down the road.

They were, a very very long time ago. I bought the first two on sale back when Baconing came out.

The point of this week's sale is to tell us not to buy any of the Play games next week, since they will all be on PS+ soon.
The only game on the the Play Game lineup from last year that were eventually free with PS + was Galak-Z. The other games (N ++, Journey, and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture) have never been free with PS +. So..............

You can't yet claim that only 1 game was eventually free from the 2015 PLAY lineup as time is till moving forward. Games from the PLAY event typically go free after the first year. The 2014 lineup is the only one to all happen in less than a year. in general, some take as many as 3 years but most happen after the first year.

Anyway, here's the actual data for anyone interested.

Play 2011:
Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition
The Baconing
Payday The Heist (10/2012 ... over 1 year later)
Bloodrayne Betrayal (8/2012 ... 1 year later)
Renegade Ops (7/2012... 1 year later)

Play 2012:
The Expendables 2 Videogame
Sound Shapes (8/2015 ... 3 years later)
Papo & Yo (3/2015 ... just over 2.5 years later)
Counter Strike Global Offensive

Play 2013:
Stealth Inc. (4/2014 ... just under a 1 year later)

Cloudberry Kingdom (7/2015 ... 2 years later)

Duck Tales (1/2015 ... 1.5 years later)
ibb Obb (11/2015 .. over 1 year later)

Play 2014:
The Swapper (1/2015 ... 6 months later)
Rogue Legacy (2/2015 ... ~6 months later)
Hohokum (5/2015 .. almost 1 year later)
Counter Spy (3/2015 ... ~9 months later)

Play 2015:

Journey
N++
Galak-Z (3/2016 ... ~9 months later)
Everybody's Gone To The Rapture

Journey has been a PS+ game, granted it was the PS3 version which gave me the Ps4 version also, but it had been prior to the Play promotion.

To be fair I think they only announced it a like two weeks ago tops and so pre-orders we're only only couple days tops. I only found out about it because I accidentally clicked the banner thing for the game on the GS site.
Not sure if you care but I was able to get one from GS's site on Tuesday. Looks like they might be out of stock for PS4 again tho

I think this whole sale of things many of us already own is just to soften us up and make us desperate to get new games.

And then bam....we spend MSRP $40 on Kerbal.

Very sneaky Sony.

Velocibox was on sale last week as well (part of the Week 2 Mid-Year sales) for $4.99 / $3.74 (PS+).  Pretty odd to see it back so soon and at a worse price.

You think saying it's a 'half baked ps1 game isn't joking or exaggerating at all?

I mean, I've played, and it wasn't really my thing... but PS1, seriously? I think if someone is really into the genre they'd dig it.
No. That is honestly how I felt. I'm a super nerd and I rate all the games I play no a spreadsheet. This game sits at the very bottom and I've been keeping this spreadsheet for years and years (it keeps me entertained at work). I was not exaggerating. It felt like a failure Zone of Enders clone on the PS1. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Did the ship just go right through an asteroid @ 0:13 ? I hope my gut is wrong, but I just don't think the game will live to expectations/hype
My gut feeling is the same and also is there for The Last Guardian and FFXV. I think FFXV has the best chance to be something great. Just wait for reviews before you purchase.

I'm cautiously excited about No Man's Sky. Hopefully there won't be a review embargo so we can get a decent idea of how it turned out before release because I probably won't be able to stop myself from buying it otherwise. I honestly think I'm looking forward to the new South Park game more than anything else for the rest of 2016 at least.

Oh, hey, I just noticed that another game that I purchased previously, Color Guardians, is showing for purchase like I don't already own it. Why the fuck does this keep happening? I noticed this with A Boy & His Blob a few weeks ago.

Maybe you played a different game. The one I played had decent graphics, solid controls, and played well. A little slow for my tastes, but all in all, just fine. I didn't love it, but I've played hundreds of worse games. It wasn't broken, or unplayable, or anything else.

More to the point, it looks and plays nothing like a PS1 game, which is why I'm even defending it. Calling it a 'half baked PS1 game' is sillyness. I doesn't look nor play like a ps1 game, and feels just fine as a ps4 release.

So are we expecting a flash sale tomorrow?
I am fairly sure it'll happen based on data alone. If anyone is interested in the stats there's a blurb below. There's actually a lot more to this prediction than just a random guess as the data that supports this prediction goes back to August 2014.

Dates for the flash sales for the year so far compared to last year...

Jan 22nd-2016 23rd-2015

Feb 12th-2016 13th-2015 (Tied to Valentines Weekend)

Mar 18th-2016 20th-2015

Apr 22nd-2016 17th-2015

May 20th-2016 15th-2015

Jun 24th-2016 26th-2016 (Tied to 1 week after the end of E3)

July 2015's flash sale was the 17th, today is the 15th. It is no guarantee they wont push it 5 days the other way like in April & May. But keep in mind too that outside of April, all of the Flash Sales so far have matched up to the Friday position in the previous year. What I mean by that is even May, with a 5 day gap, was the 3rd Friday of the month in both 2015 and 2016 as were all other months (except April) matching their previous year Friday position. Another Example, March was the 3rd Friday of the month in both years.

More data to consider as well is starting August 2015 through June 2016, every single flash except April & May 2016 has been within 2 days of the previous year's flash sale for that month. Meaning August 2015 is within 2 days of August 2014's flash sale. So the data from August 2014 forward has been VERY steady and predictable. But again, May is actually fine if you consider the Friday of the month position being a factor as they still match up as the 3rd Friday despite being 5 days off from the previous year.

There is no guarantee it's today. If I had to put a stat on it, I'd say I'd say I'm 75% sure it's today. We are within 2 days of last year's flash sale. We are at the same Friday of the month (3rd Friday) as last year. It seems highly likely. I look forward to seeing if the data matches up and we an even stronger case for predicting these things going forward or if we get an anomaly like April. There's one other factor I'm considering too which is that in April 2014 the flash sale was on the 18th... which is a higher date number than the 2015 flash sale. So 2016 went back to a higher number. July 2014 was on the 11th which is a lower number than the 2015 flash sale. So it seems more likely if they consider the 2014 data that it'll be possibly prone to go lower in date. But again, this all statistics and even the best statistics can't predict everything perfectly. Still I find it fun to try. If I'm wrong, oh well. I've been right enough about these predictions I can take a loss.

I'm probably the only person that pumps their fists in the air at statistical analysis predictions coming to fruition. :D/ I almost don't even care what is on sale now.

Page for the flash sale... https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/flash-sale/cid=STORE-MSF77008-FLASHSALEWEBLP

Aren't the Flash Sales on the third week?

After E3 i don't even know when are they anymore >_>
Read last post above. It's all pretty predictable based on the data collected since August 2014 forward.
