It let me watch the video and then I clicked on redeem prize and for like 3 minutes it just refused to load and finally it said "no more prizes"
Sad times. I was sitting in the living room with the family and saw that it was 11:59 here and just stood up and ran off without saying why lol. Managed to get one this time so I am pleased.

Ellie confirmed as only playable character in TLOU II. Pretty much all I need to know at this point. I'm sure they have their (stupid) reasons but seeing Joel sidelined for Ellie just tells me that they're trying way too hard to be progressive and while that's fine, I would reject not being able to play as Joel since he's a far better developed character.

It's kinda like if they made an Uncharted game that didn't focus on Nat. . .oh wait. . .
maybe play the game or wait for reviews before you decide the game sucks based on playing as a female character

True, but the reason why he’s a better developed character is because he had a entire game mostly focused on his story. So it makes perfect sense for the sequel to be Ellie’s Story.

Having a female protagonist is "trying way too hard to be progressive", got it. :eyeroll:

I'm really looking forward to the game.

Female AND (wholesomely) openly gay protagonist is a new one on me, so I see it as being very progressive which I don't mind. Not being able to play as Joel, I do. Without him, there is no Last of Us and simply putting him in the game as a minor character (as it has been hinted at) just doesn't interest me enough to play. I liked the dynamic he had in the first game and how well developed he was. Them throwing him away did the same for my interests.

Many of the BioWare games can have gay protagonists (depending on how you play). In any case, Ellie being gay isn't new information, it was pretty apparent in the Left Behind DLC. It's not as if they suddenly said, "Oh, let's make her gay!"

I like Ellie but am disappointed that Joel isn't playable. I didn't mind the Uncharted spinoff at all. But IMO both characters were major focal points of the original game and should continue to be in the sequel. We'll have to see just how much he shows up in part two's storyline, I suppose.

Hmmm, Bioware games you have the choice to make Shepard gay but here it's just fact. Not having a choice of the orientation for the character you play is what I meant as being a new one for me. And it wasn't news to me: again, the only news here is that Joel will not be playable in the second game. I want to play Joel. Simple.

Right, and equally I HATED that Sully wasn't in Uncharted 2 because he and Nathan played off each other perfectly. It was a blow for my interest in that game; was so happy when he came back in 3. It happens with any medium where you enjoy it because the people are what make it special, fictional or not. When you remove a key ingredient in any recipe, it changes how it tastes.

Losing Joel as a main character just makes it bitter for me.

I kind of feel like you missed the point of The Last of Us if you refuse to play as Ellie in the sequel (or even the DLC). The first game you spend trying to protect Ellie and form this father-daughter bond with her. Why so much animosity towards her now? To me, it's like the Walking Dead games, where the first game you played as Lee and basically informed Clementine's survival technique, and then the second game you played as Clem applying that practical knowledge. It might be done for clearly narrative reasons.

Joel was a pretty old, grizzled guy by the end of the first adventure...I think this might be telegraphing the fact that he dies within the first act or so? It would make sense for Ellie to head off on her own then.

I never liked Ellie's character in the first game, but it was understood she was a vehicle for the plot and strengthened character development for Joel. The 'Lone Wolf and Cub' vibe was perfect for the story since it pushed it forward and made you feel like a guardian, something most of us can relate to.

And Joel looked to be in his 50's by the time Ellie was a young adult, so I don't buy that he's this old man just waiting to die. Maybe if he was looking 70 or 80. . .

Joel is dead. How is this not apparent at this point? After that first teaser from PSX and the complete lack of mention of him since it's more likely than not he's dead. Odds are he'll be in the game, but only as a memory and in flashbacks.

That gameplay looked absolutely sick. I, for one, cannot wait for LoU2.

There's lots of folks here who haven't finished TLOU :)

On another note, what kind of game is Infamous: Second Son?  I'm assuming it's open world and I can spend tons of time just killing random baddies.  I'm kind of looking for a mindless time waster.

Okay, I totally get loving Joel and wanting to play as him. I also get not liking Ellie as a character makes you less interested in the game. But you said "they're trying way too hard to be progressive"; because of what? Ellie is the character she is. She is now the focal point of the next game. This is not the first (nor will it be the last) time a narrative game changes who the main playable character is (MSG2 anyone?) It comes across as you simply not liking the change because you think there is some more 'sinster' political plot and not just a story to be told.

It makes me wonder if you were/are as upset with the switch from Marcus to JD in Gears 4 or from Frank to Chuck in DR2 of from Cole to Delsin in Infamous. 'Cause it seems that the side story of Uncharted LL seems to have struck a nerve. Is it *really* just the change of protagonist?

I just look at it as the continuation of a great story. why would it matter if you play as ellie or joel? I get that joel is a great character and I was hoping to see this game be more of a 50/50 split. I would say we saw most of joel's story already told, ellie has so much more to give going forward.

I can understand the disappointment, but maybe just wait until even more is shown/revealed. you might just end up liking this one even more.

Open world, third-person shooter/action game.

I like Sully a lot, but I would’ve been OK with him not being in Uncharted 3 as it would’ve eliminated the stupidest part of that game by far (no spoilers).

Huh? Joel is directly referenced in the E3 trailer, though not by name.

It's kinda like if they made an Uncharted game that didn't focus on Nat. . .oh wait. . .
Getting to play as Ellie in the first one was a big surprise, commented on and appreciated by many. If there are any surprise guest stars oh, you can be sure naughty dog will not tell us in advance.

That said, Ellie is a Perfectly Natural star of tlou 2. Unlike some franchises in which it seems very forced, it seems absolutely correct that Ellie should be the star now

Just got all the trophies in clan of Champions that are still available, as I can't seem to connect to any servers to play multiplayer even if someone else was around which they aren't.

This game is the PS3 sequel to the wonderfully awesome Gladiator begins on PSP. There are some improvements, but if you own clan of Champions I suggest deleting it and just playing Gladiator begins again instead. There are so many things done horribly wrong.

For example, after a battle you can buy any armor or weapons you've knocked off the opponents. Sounds great, Until you realize you buy them at full price. You then can sell them to the store for half price, which will then sell you a level 1 version of it for full price. All stat improvements are through gems attached to armor and weapons. There's the standard combine to B gems to get a B+ gem, from d rank through s+ rank. However, this is expensive and has a chance of failure you need to constantly abused Cloud save to avoid losing that S rank gem that cost you a bloody Fortune. Did I mention that removing a gem from a weapon destroy the weapon? So if you spend the Fortune upgrading a weapon, then attach a B+ gem, you're eventually going to have trash that weapon to install a A+ rank in a different weapon.

Oh, and gems cost inventory slots. You have 60, which fills up fast with gems since it's so expensive to combine them. You need to buy the spoils at full price, remove the gems for a price losing the item, then spend tens of thousands to combine them.

Of course, there's DLC to add inventory slots. DLC for gems. Excetera excetera

The grind is actually enjoyable because I enjoy the combat... Like Gladiator begins you can knock off armor from legs or arms, although they got rid of limb damage for some reason. But honestly I should take my own advice and just played Gladiator begins again, it's the far better game

Just play Gladiator begins instead. You've been warned. My addiction in getting all of the offline trophies should serve as a warning. The only game that had more obviously abusive DLC was Valkyrie Knights 3. Thankful that I didn't buy any for either game

I had some amazon credit, wanted to buy PSN credit for PS+.

PlayStation card $20 and $25 are out of stock on amazon, anyone know how long it takes to restock? Don't want to miss out on the $50 special because amazon is out of stock.

From what I understand, they haven't had $10, $20 or $25 cards since mid April (that was when I last bought credit) so I have no idea.

Using Amazon credit to buy PSN credit is how I buy most of my games since digital sales are typically cheaper than buying physical, so I hope they eventually do restock.

Grab the $50 cards unless you want to miss out.

Thanks, I’ll look those up! Yeah never really played ps games before. I tried ps3 once but I didn’t like the controller and much preferred 360. I’ve heard ps4 controller is way better though so hope that’s true.

Everything Frisky said but the thing I'd add is that it is a super hero game so there is a big emphasis on getting new powers and having a bunch of really fun mobility options. I'd say the main reason I love the inFamous series actually is because of how much fun it is to zip across the map, they especially nailed it in Second Son.

As for mindless I am not sure how it is on easy but honestly on normal/expert in this series you've always died pretty fast so you have to be pretty mindful or you will be restarting an area a lot, can't really just go in guns blazing or you will die a lot. Not to say it's a very challenging game or anything but your time to death is pretty short.

I like the PS4 controller a lot. I had the 360 last gen so there was a bit of an adjustment but it seems to be a bit bigger and fits in the hand better than older versions.

The Dualshock 4 (PS4) controller is way better than the Dualshock 3 (PS3). For Uncharted, you should absolutely get the remastered trilogy and start from the beginning. All of them are worth playing, but 2 and 4 are masterpieces - and 4 won't have nearly the same impact if you haven't been through the series. Horizon Zero Dawn and The Last of Us Remastered are also incredible. Since you haven't played PS3, also look into the Heavy Rain remaster.
