The Reaper only appears if you do the opposite of what you're saying. If you blow through floors you'll never see him. If you linger on the same floor for too long, he appears.
Really? He only seemed to hassle when I was trying to get through floors as quickly as possible.

I haven't seen anyone mentioning this- I was looking through SEN and the new course for Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational- Northern Fox Course (normally $2.99) is coming up free. I was able to download and confirm that cross-buy does apply.
If you already bought it for the Vita version, it's free for PS3 due to Cross Buy support.

He'll only spawn after you linger for a certain amount of time on a given floor (~10 minutes for most floors, shorter for random special floors such as all chests or all gold shadows). Pulling a skull card in shuffle time shortens this time.

I guess it might have been due to trying to find the exit only to run into dead ends. Regardless, Persona 4 Golden handles it the best. As whenever he spawns, he's locked in a chest that you are warned about up front if you try to open it, so the only issue is hearing that creepy Reaper noise for an entire floor.

I actually hated the Reaper in P4G... He never showed up whenever I wanted him to >.<

They should make a secret dungeon where you would only find Reapers :)

Purchased Critter Crunch and Everyday Shooter. I didn't look too far back in the thread, but is the store not updated with this week's complete sales? I had to search the store for both CC and ES to buy them.

Front page. Frisky does a much better job than the official PSN store. Lol!

They should hire him to keep that site updated.

I don't know if it's a glitch or what, but for the past few weeks, I've had things randomly disappear from the store listings. For instance, when I first checked the PS+ "New Arrivals" section, it just listed the deals, but not the new game (Metal Slug XX). I pushed circle to back out one screen, went back to the "New Arrivals" section, and then Metal Slug was there. The same thing happens on the deal pages; sometimes it shows everything, sometimes things are missing.

If you don't like JRPGs, Persona is not going to change your opinion of them. However, if you enjoy a well written mystery, excellent tun base combat and questing for bigger and better loot (in this case fusing personas) then it's certainly worth a spin. You can always rent the game before deciding to buy it.
OK if I like the monster collecting aspect of Persona 3 with its card system but did not like the recruiting aspect of SMT IV I'm still cool with Persona 4, right?

The people behind Guacamelee are giving out codes for the new DLC on Twitter today. I just scored one for myself. Looks like they'll be doing it all day. @DrinkBoxStudios is the handle to follow.
I wonder sometimes why I even bother with these things, sitting there for an hour or so refreshing, refresh immediately when it comes up and somehow they are all magically consumed.

I second this, Frisky's got my vote! I used to get so frustrated with the PSN store wondering if it actually updated properly or if it was the way my account displayed items in the store. Then I found out this was the norm. I think it has improved a bit more recently but the "SEARCH" keyword feature at the top of the store page used to be so woefully inconsistent at producing accurate results that it drove me up a wall.

I got mine at 9am, so maybe that helped, as all the ninjas were still sleeping.

No Madden on Vita? Weird, and disappointing, after it had its own bundle last year. I was looking forward to an improved version of last year's game. Wish Sony would have helped make that happen.

Isn't 999 still $20 on Amazon?
Yeah, but when it's been $20 for two or three months that becomes wholly unreasonable unless I want to play it right this second! Otherwise I can wait until it goes on sale or it looks like it's about to sell out for good.

Yeah there's no Madden on Vita this year so I'm sure there's no FIFA either.
There's FIFA on Vita this year, that one's too big to fail.

what makes the difference between the 2 persona 2 for the psp.. is one of them better...
Persona 2 Innocent Sin is the first game. It never came out in NA for the PS2. It only came out for the PSP.

It has slightly better graphics/sound

Persona 2 Eternal Punishment is a bit of a side story/continuation of Persona 2 IS (although you can play it without having played EP)

I think it's pretty much a direct port of the PS 1 game. (PS 2?)

PS1 on both games which sounds weird that games were still coming out for the PS1 in 2000 like it was some ancient mythical time.

If you kept reading, you'd have seen Tyler's post where he looked into it and saw confirmation that FIFA 14 is coming to Vita. Madden's weird in that EA's paired down the number of systems it's on to just Xbox 360 and PS3 at launch with Xbox One and PS4 at their launches, while FIFA's on almost everything.

Well it's obviously about what it sells on. Madden does it's sale almost exclusively in the US and even when it was on all the platforms it only sold on PS3 and 360. FIFA destroys Madden and sells everywhere there's video game consoles so it makes sense to be on platforms that sell better in other territories.

I don't know. EA released Madden on the PSP every year for a long time and kept running into the wall with Madden on Wii, so they weren't that hesitant to try it out on other platforms last gen. This gen, they've only released one game on Wii U, 3DS, and Vita and probably aren't going to return despite two of those versions being at least a decent game that could do well on the platform with some better support and a proper launch.

thank you for posting this because I managed to snag one of the codes they put up about an hour ago. DrinkBox really does seem like a great developer

Here's a good trailer for the Everyday Shooter and Critter Crunch sale. Jonathan Mak of Queasy Games and Nathan Vella of Capybara Games each wrote a letter about their game that is on sale:

Five years ago I released my first game, Everyday Shooter, in which you play through an album of musical shmups, where every sound effect is a guitar riff or note harmonizing over an all-guitar soundtrack. So as you play the game, it feels like you’re jamming along with the music. Each level/song/track has a different vibe, look, sound and gameplay mechanic — kind of like how songs on an album flow through different moods.

At least that’s what it is for most people. In actuality the game was built on ten years’ worth of failed experiments. It’s a game about growing out of the art-game-theory-I-am-a-genius-look-at-me BS I had built in my head. It’s about shedding my ego and getting back to the basics of making a simple, GOOD video game. It’s about becoming the student learning from the masters.

I packed a lot of personal memories into this game: I see the little Lego tanks and spaceships I built as a child in level 5, my obsession with strawberry picking in level 7, the first three-chord progression I ever wrote on guitar in Level 1… and I see all the undeniable influences of the time: Every Extend in Level 1, Warning Forever in Level 2, Miyzaki’s Porco Rosso in Level 4… and I cannot deny the inspiration I found in Rez and Lumines.

Everyday Shooter is probably the 8th, or 10th, or 12th (I’ve lost track!) game I ever made, but it was the first game I was truly proud of. Right now it’s on sale for a dollar. A dollar! I’d love for you to try it, and if you do, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

– Jonathan Mak, Queasy Games

Many years ago Capy wasn’t making the types of games we are now. We worked on games for big movie brands on a platform not a lot of folks cared about. Out of that dark time came one bright light: a silly little arcade-style puzzle game starring a cuddly orange blob who used his tongue to feed critters to each other. That game, originally called “Top of the Food Chain” before being officially dubbed CRITTER CRUNCH, became our first console title, launching on PSN in October of 2009.

Looking back, I can say that Critter Crunch happened because of Everyday Shooter. Not directly of course, but in a very real, indirect way. As we toiled in the furnaces of work-for-hire, our good friend Jon Mak was releasing a crazy, personal, aesthetically-driven game on a major console. Everyday Shooter was inspirational to us, and to be honest we felt like we needed to make better games because of it. Around the same time our friends at Metanet released N+, and it was these twin forces that gave us the courage to make games we truly cared about. Critter Crunch was our first step in that exciting direction. It was our first truly ‘independent’ project in the new era of Capy, and set us on the (amazing) path we’re on now.

We wanted to make something with the beauty of Miyazaki or early Disney animation, but at its core was a love-letter to games like Dr. Mario & Magical Drop. We wanted to cram it with jokes and charm and character and multiplayer modes you could play with friends or significant others.

To this day, we still love the heck out of Critter Crunch. And we hope you love it too, or will love it if you buy it while it’s on sale for $0.99.

– Nathan Vella, Capy co-founder & president
Jon also goes on to say that they have something special planned for Sound Shapes' one-year anniversary for August 7.

Yes. P4 takes all of P3's systems and refines them. Some people like the story of 3 better (I personally think 4 is tons better, but it's very much a matter of opinion), but the gameplay in P4G is pretty much undeniably better than P3's.

Golden also refined almost everything from the original game to make it even better. Most of my issues with 4 are gone with Golden.

Information about the game Rung Rung: Ozu no Mahoutsukai ~Another World~ (a PS1 import on PSN) is scarce, and it's a great game IMO, so I've decided to rip the soundtrack.

I'd highly recommend the game to anyone with an intermediate level of Japanese.  It's great as a first step away from furigana-using games.

edit: Started uploading tracks from Favorite Dear: Enkan no Monogatari as well.

What were your issues with 4? Golden is nice, but it's way too easy.
It's nothing huge, but they fixed a lot of small things that didn't break the game:

  • Not being able to choose the inherited skills that demons randomly get from the fused demons.
  • No easy way to see what demons can be fused from what you have in stock.
  • No way to tell how far you are into reading a book.
  • The ability to save during that long opening sequence.
  • The ability to warp to the next floor after finding the exit, which lets you continue exploring the floor without having to run back.

These numbers aren't 100% accurate I'm sure but they seem inline with what I've seen mentioned as rough totals elsewhere for PS3 and 360 so I think they're credible enough. Look at the disparity from 360 and PS3 to everything else, Vita maybe sold 250K copies and WiiU doesn't look like it will have cracked 40K by end of year. Then ROW sales are barely over 10%.

http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=madden+nfl+13&publisher=&platform=&genre=&minSales=0&results=200

Now look at FIFA 13. Nearly twice as many units sold total so while the Vita version moved about the same number of units (250K) there's still a lot more brand appeal. If I'm an exec and going to axe one of the two under performers it's going to be the one that only sells in North America and half as many copies.

http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=fifa+13&publisher=&platform=&genre=&minSales=0&results=200

Is Odin Sphere worth buying at $5? Screenshots look cool...
Vanillaware is known for their art more than anything but I enjoy their games at least.

VG Chartz is one way to kill a discussion.

To clarify, I don't care at all about sales or anything like that. The point was that FIFA games are on everything and they're pretty faithful to that core experiences while Madden took some odd turns rather than focusing on that core experience on every platform that they developed on.

I'm truly trying to understand what you mean here, but alas, I dont...know.

FIFA games on other platforms don't stray very far from one another while Madden games can stray quite far on other platforms, which isn't a surprise since the Madden team has been kind of lost this generation with what to do with the series.

http://www.giantbomb.com/madden-nfl-football/3030-34245/

Madden on 3DS. There's no MP and the biggest mode offered is season mode, so it has less features than SNES Maddens.

http://www.giantbomb.com/madden-nfl-09-all-play/3030-22683/

Madden All-Play for Wii. They made a Madden game for people that don't play games. Madden 07 at launch was a great Madden game with all of the modes you'd expect and good motion controls.

The Wii U and Vita versions of Madden 13 were pretty good versions for their platforms.

OK I get what you're saying.  I think we're making the same basic point just rationalizing it from two different angles.  Maybe.  :whee:

Hey, I was wondering if anybody knows with a question I have pertaining to PS+.

So right now on PS+, I can download all the PS vita games they give me for free (but I don't have a Vita), and just store them in my download history. Did Sony say that I could do the same for the free PS4 games they're giving out like Drive club?

they did not say. it really depends.

there is a decent chance you'd be able to go to the web store and 'buy' those free games.

but there's also some room for Sony wanting to reward early adopters...

since they allow it with vita, and the same reasoning works for ps4 (if you already have a pile of free games for it, more likely to buy it) i'd say it's highly probable.

I don't think they have officially said this, but I thought I heard them allude to this on the Official Playstation Podcast (not sure of the actual name). It seems likely, but I doubt Sony wants this to be publicized too heavily since it gives people an excuse to hold off on purchasing a PS4.

So just finished world 4 of Stealth Inc.  It's a pretty sweet game and so far no regrets on my purchase.  It plays great on the Vita and is the perfect fit for the handheld.  It's getting pretty tough, and I expect the 2nd half of the game to get even more difficult.  I thought there would be a little bit more focus on platforming and precise stealth timing (similar to Mark of the Ninja) but it's actually much more of a basic puzzle game with block moving, button switching, doors opening and closing, etc.

I don't see myself 100%'ing it, getting an S-Rank on every level is a major commitment of memorizing each level and then pulling off a perfect runthrough.

hmm ps2 classics like Disgaea cant be played on a vita by chance can they? May be fun to play it port ably.

Not when they have PSP/Vita-specific ports they can sell you. ;)

But nope, PS2 classics can't. Some PS1 classics can.
bah, lame. Id think the vita could handle it, guess they didn't want to bother. Anyone else feel a bit cheated by the lack of vita functionality and features? You got to thinking tons of games would be cross buy.. theres like a tiny handfull, and a lot of the remote play and other features just arent there, blea.

Yeah, but when it's been $20 for two or three months that becomes wholly unreasonable unless I want to play it right this second! Otherwise I can wait until it goes on sale or it looks like it's about to sell out for good.

There's FIFA on Vita this year, that one's too big to fail.

My bad I totally overlooked FIFA 14 on Gamestop's page. Kinda easy to do when it's not an itemized list like the other systems and it just every physical game cart on the platform and you have to look under the box art to see if it has a future release date.

Yeah, I'm sure that they could write an emulator that would let the Vita handle it or set them up for streaming from the PS3.
