:ps4: Foul Play - $2.00 to $100.00 [customspoiler='Fine Print'] :ps4: Foul Play is a part of the PlayStation Heroes program, which means that you can pay your choice among a variety of price points for an item that is usually a theme for entries into a contest to win some prize with most of the money going to a charity. There are no details at the moment for what the prize for buying Foul Play offers, so I'll post that whenever it's announced.

Edit: From the PlayStation Heroes app on PS4, the Foul Play promotion is for a trip to PlayStation Experience in December. Once you purchase the game, you're supposed to go here to register for the actual contest, though you should wait until the page is updated for the PlayStation Experience promotion instead of whatever it's on at the moment.[/customspoiler]

Why in the world is pinball arcade season 2 on sale for PS3/Vita but not for PS4? Geez, I was all hyped up to buy season 2 today too. Oh well.
Probably because Season two was just recently released on PS4 but has been out for a long time on PS3/Vita. I would have purchased Season 2 on PS4 if it was on sale. Don't have much room on my vita for season 2 unfortunately my 32GB card if just about full and had to delete two games so I can download Woah Dave and Duke Nukem.

I'm going to go ahead and grab season 1 and pray that season 2 will go on sale within the next year.

Out of the games that you picked up for the holidays/new year, what game are you having the most fun with?

I just started Shadows of Mordor and it is amazing. Takes the best parts of AC and Batman with a great transition from mission to exploration segments.
Shadows of Mordor here as well. I haven't played the other games I picked up since it's so much fun.

I'm glad to hear that you guys like Shadow of Mordor. I hope many others will give that game a try. It's slow in the beginning like all games until you start buying some powers 10 minutes or so in. You can keep on playing forever even after completing all missions, quests and challenges. And by then you would have had all your powers, and the fun factor would be exponentially better. Don't forget that you get to play as 2 additional characters with the PS4 version. It's easily the funnest (and easy) Platinum I've had so far.

The PS2 ([customspoiler='Spoiler']aka PlanetSide 2[/customspoiler]) closed beta on PS4 hits on 1/20. They're still taking sign-ups here if you want a shot to get in.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/01/07/joe-danger-2-coming-to-ps-vita-on-january-13th/

Joe Danger 2 hits Vita on 1/13 with some new exclusive characters in Atoi, Iota, and Sackboy to go with Steve from Minecraft and the TF2 cast from the PC version. It also includes an additional campaign to go with the main campaign and has a level editor to allow for more levels to play.

By characters do you mean skins? I only see a female skin option on PS4. Maybe I don't have the right version? Should I wait to play the other game mode until the story mode is finished? Has anyone tried the DLC?

I died 2x in the first 30 minutes playing but that has been it so far. It is tough to start out when you don't have a lot of power and some orc poison snipes you and you get mobbed by 50 creatures from the shadows. After clearing most of the map of collectables, I purchased one of the 2500 abilities (the sword one) and now I get 20 sec of free executions and I feel so beastly.

This game sneaks into my #2 spot after Dragon Age Inquisition. Still have Alien Isolation, Battlefield 4, Southpark, and Infamous Second Son to start but for now SoM is my go to game.

I thought you meant PS2 games in PS Now. I don't think Planetside is popular enough for anyone to know that's what you meant by PS2. Unintentional rickroll.

Backlog time and I need some CAG input on what to play next on my Vita. I've narrowed it down to 5 games, all pretty much different genres so I can have some variety. My options are:

Danganronpa Happy Trigger Havoc
Killzone Mercenary
Persona 4 Golden
Rayman Legends
Tales of Hearts R

Just finished The Wolf Among Us (loved the story). I'm still grinding out the last few trophies on Soul Sacrifice Delta (Freedon Wars is on hold as I only want one hunter game going on) and cleaning up Uncharted but I'm ready for something new to dive into. Any feedback would be appreciated!

P4G

Only game I played through twice. And, back-to-back to boot.

Still no word on 10% off?
It's only been a couple days since they told us we'd get it within a month. Technically, the 'word' on the 10% off is still that we're getting it sometime in the near future. Patience.

There's no need to even download. All you have to do is go through the checkout process for the games. I was doing that for the PS3 and Vita games before I owned the consoles to play them on.
I buy everything free on PS+, even if I know I'll never play it in a million years.

Killzone Mercs is a fantastic bite size fps with lots of replayability if you enjoy beating missions in different ways (assault, stealth, etc). It's also got great MP imo.

Rayman Legends is a fantastic platformer (and I hate platformers) that plays beautifully on vita. Or wait, maybe i'm thinking of Origins, whatever, both are supposed to be good.

P4G is high school drama with SMT combat. Not my thing, I'd rather play other SMT games. I always want to love Persona games but the kid drama makes me run away.

ToHR - haven't played.

As of right now my favorite game would have to be Shadow of Mordor. The game was a complete surprise and has helped with the long wait for Arkham Knight. That I got it from best buy on black Friday for only $20 makes it even more awesome.

You have some good choices there. I'm interested to see what all the fuss is about with Danganronpa so I'd likely choose that one. However, I've heard it is heavy on narrative and story and you just finished The Wolf Among Us.

I've started both Killzone and P4G and both are excellent. For me, I need to be in the mood for that type of game in order to progress. I think I'm still in the tutorial for P4G after a few hours of gameplay. Its been so long since I played that I'm going to have to go back and start over again.

Rayman looks awesome if you are feeling like a platformer - it is another game in my backlog as well.

I've played other games in the Tales Series and love the combat system. Heard good things about Tales of Hearts R on vita and would try it out if I could commit myself to a longish JRPG. Between P4G and Tales, I would probably choose P4G.

From the newest KickStarter update, Broken Age will have Cross Buy and Cross Save support when it comes out for PS4 and Vita:

We had another fun announcement for the project last month at PlayStation Experience in Vegas. Broken Age is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita alongside its PC release! The game is already up and running on Vita with PS4 next on the list to tackle. With Cross-Buy, Cross-Save, trophies, and another pass on polishing up controller support, Broken Age on PlayStation will be a great option whether on the couch or on the go, or both! (Like, say if your couch had wheels on it, and a motor.)

Yes! We're talking about the same thing. There are 3 different characters that you can play with total. I believe the princess (the girl) is a free downloaded DLC, Talon (the main character) and a third awesome male lead character that is already on the PS4 disc but you'll still need to download it from the disc itself iirc, and one that I'm not going to spoil here. In regards to those three 2,500 points powers, you got the best one by far, so you're doing it right. Good hunting!

I'm not into FPS but you might want to go Killzone firstjust to have an action-y game as a palate cleanser from the story of TWAU. Aside from that, I'd say Danganronpa next. The gameplay is a bit -meh-, but the story is really good. While I really liked D:THH, P4G is clearly the best of that bunch. It's just a time sink. You can easily put in 50+ hours into a single playthrough and you'll (likely) want to do a new game+ to max all the social links and face the optional boss(es).

I bought Danganronpa on the last sale (still fairly pricey) due to all the hubbub. I wish I read up on it more, if I knew it was a VN (visual novel) I'd have saved some money.

The story is cool -- it's a sort of really dark/messed up murder mystery. You explore your surroundings, and converse with your 'friends' and try to solve a series of murders. The gameplay is exploration (if you want to call it that, go into every place and click everywhere to find 'clues' and have conversations and then the trials.

The trials are a bunch of what are effectively minigames. For example, you have 'truth' (evidence) in a gun -- as the trial dialog scrolls across the screen (done well) you need to select the proper 'truth' bullet and shoot any false statements. There's some other minigames along those lines.

Supposedly the story is engaging if you like VNs and high school age kids rambling about murder mysteries. I shelved it for pretty much the same reason I shelved P4G, even though they're very different games.

Thanks, Sony, for putting Pinball Arcade on sale...for PS3 and Vita :/

Why the hell this thing isn't cross buy I'll never understand.

You might want to thank Farsight for the sale, not Sony. They decided what to put on sale and at what prices. Since all of the tables are licensed, there could easily be licensing issues involved in the decision or maybe technical reasons since Zen Pinball 2 is technically not Cross Buy on PS4, as you have to purchase them elsewhere first to get them for free on PS4.

That doesnt surprise me at all. The very things that I liked about P4G are the same things I like about Danganronpa. Neither 'game' is particularly challenging (DG mini-games can be frustrating/finicky) so the 'enjoyment' comes from the character development. If you're not into the 'high school life' premise, yeah, both games are a 'skip'. It's funny, I had never heard of Danganronpa till it went on sale and some CAG described it as Phoenix Wright meets Persona 4 set in the world of Zero Escape/999. I bought it right then and there. It's probably my game of 2014 (hence my avatar). Playing the second one now.

I picked them both up for $30 a piece physical over the holidays. One of the best things I did last year.

I really wish Farsight would put Cyclone out sometime as I'd really like to have that table considering I don't have the room in my arcade for the actual pin.

RIP my PS3.  It's been getting difficult to start up lately, so I bought a new one tonight.. came back and the old one won't boot up at all now.  Good timing. :)

If anyone else is in the same boat, Target has some nice deals for PS3 bundles going on now.

Its definitely me and my wife's favorite Vita game for 2014. Did you watch the anime as well?

I didnt know there *was* an anime till a couple of days ago. I've watched about 4-5 episodes via hulu. I *did* read a translation of the prequel novel-ette Danganronpa Zero. It puts the events of THH in a different light (also spoils the shit out of the ending/twist).

Dangan anime's pretty shitty. It's hard to cover everything from the game in a few episodes, and it's just not on par with the game at all.

Goodbye Despair has plenty of improvements over the first game, but I think the actual 'game' parts of it are fucking atrocious. The new mini games added and the new version of hangman's gambit are abominations. Nothing's more frustrating than restarting the game multiple times because the mini game is too shit to comprehend.

Love the game, but wow they really went out of their way to make it an awful experience at times.

does whoa dave ever change or is it just the one screen try to get a score?
The lava rises at some point and platforms get knocked about by the UFOs.

At first glance there is not much to it, but after playing for an hour or so you'll realize that there is a fair amount of strategy necessary for high scores and survival. One thing I found out was that if you get a whoa block early on, you can hide on the bottom platform in the middle and nothing will get you until the enemies evolve to flying monsters. This allows you to maximize the number of enemies that turn to coins after using the whoa block. If you trigger the whoa block when other blocks are also on the screen, more coins pop out.

I'd honestly just YouTube it and save yourself the $30. It's a visual novel so all you'd be missing out on is doing the clicking yourself. And some of the comments from the uploader are hilarious - I've been watching one playthrough where the guy flips out every time Teddy (I forget his real name. Momoku?) shows himself, or calling the robots Gundams.

To each their own,but that doesn't seem as fun!

I feel that Danganronpa was unique enough and addictive enough for me to finish it within 3 days...playing evenings and nights. I would recommend playing it. There is a decent amount of gameplay compared to pure visual novel games like...umm Clannad. I wouldn't Let's Play it....just my humble opinion of course.

I'm a fan of Phoenix Wright and Persona so I'll give it a shot when I'm not broke.

If I pickup Danganronpa, should I start at the first one or skip to the second?
The first game seems to be out of print, so it'll be hard to locate. You should start with the first game b/c the 2nd doesn't explain everything to you that occurred in the 1st. Also the 2nd game improves upon the mechanics, so it might be harder to go backwards if you play DR2 first.

For someone who hasn't played Bastion, would you say Bastion > Transistor?
I don't think I'd say that. They're both great, but I think the Transistor battle system tips it in that game's favor for me. Bastion's more of a straight forward action/shooter RPG with a dual-wielding system that lets you mix-and-match weapons to suit your playstyle that is where a number of Transistor's ideas originated.
