:ps4: Foul Play - $2.00 to $100.00 [customspoiler='Fine Print'] :ps4: Foul Play is a part of the PlayStation Heroes program, which means that you can pay your choice among a variety of price points for an item that is usually a theme for entries into a contest to win some prize with most of the money going to a charity. There are no details at the moment for what the prize for buying Foul Play offers, so I'll post that whenever it's announced.

Edit: From the PlayStation Heroes app on PS4, the Foul Play promotion is for a trip to PlayStation Experience in December. Once you purchase the game, you're supposed to go here to register for the actual contest, though you should wait until the page is updated for the PlayStation Experience promotion instead of whatever it's on at the moment.[/customspoiler]

So I've proceeded to forget about PSNOW two months in a row, and got $20 wasted on it...again. Set a calendar event on my phone for next month.

So now I have ~$7 left to spend out of the $100 before the promo ends, any ideas on what to get?

I grabbed Diablo 3 & Dragon Age, I already played through Tomb Raider not sure if its worth another playthrough when my backlog is so big already.
Just set psnow to not automaticaly renew, you can do that now.

Gonna grab Muramasa Rebirth DLC Collection and Dragon Age

Wondering if I go digital on Far Cry 4 and Shadows of Mordor or get 12 month PS+ to extend it.

I have a Disney infinity WiiU starter kit I picked up from the thrift. It's still sealed. Will the base work with my PS3? Want to pick up the digital version while it's on sale.

Definatly gonna get telltale games collection but idk if i should go digital on shadow off mordor and dragon age or wait till store updates on tues to see next weeks sales since we have till midnight on tues, what u guys think

Doing this Resogun Defenders stream. Trying a new set-up, so feel free to hop on and help me make sure things are running smoothly.

Edit: It's over.

I was under the impression that GCU had $10 certs on all preorders.. Even the best buy lady I purchased it through mentioned it.
just read the GCU stuff, it does mention "select titles" I never noticed that.
Yeah and the number of eligible games has drastically gone down over the last year it seems.

So I'm on the fence about DA:Inquisition.  I really like massive RPGs and the game has gotten tons of great press.  But I do have two questions:

1.  I was not a huge fan of the combat in DA:O.  It was just so many things to manage and I had a some what difficult time with keeping track of everything.  So how does the DA:I combat compare to DA:O's combat and is it something accessible.

2.  Is this the lowest price it will be for a bit?  I'm planning to get ES:O at launch, but I'll have time to play before then.  Think this price is as good a price as any?

Thanks!

How are people getting 2 of the ebay $50 cards?  After I bought 1 it's telling me it's 'out of stock', though it seems to just be because I already bought one.  Do I need to set up another ebay account?

I bought two just fine but I did wait a day in between before picking up the second code. I also purchased the codes on my iPhone 5s, not sure if that makes a difference. I was expecting to run into issues with the second code after reading about all the problems CAGs were having but everything went fine.

I don't think you need to create another ebay account. Maybe logout/login into ebay and Paypal. It seems like a lot of people are reporting problems with Paypal, which is weird because I've never had a problem buying through them.

I had a lot of issues with Paypal -- had to call them up with a code, then talk to a rep to get my account unlocked, etc. Never had that happen before trying to buy something, and certainly not on ebay.

What are you guys buying with your codes to hit $100? I'm thinking BF Hardline and a year of plus. I'm not into to buying a lot of digital.

You might want to check out the CAG thread on the sale. I jumped on the sale this time and was able to buy 2 early on without any issues, but the last time they were on sale, PayPal locked my account and by the time I unlocked it the sale was long over, so I think it's just general PayPal and ebay craptitude. I haven't been able to buy a 3rd code so my guess is there's a limit, and it's possible they might have even lowered it from 2 to 1?

How is Hohokum? That's the only game interested from the list. Is it more of a artwork showpiece type of game? Is there fun to be had?
I'd say yes to both. It's largely a sandboxy artwork showpiece type of game (with a great soundtrack)...and it does a pretty good job at that...but there actually are objectives in the different levels and stuff. They just don't tell you what they are, and the point of the game is to basically go to all the different levels and mess around until you stumble onto what you're supposed to be doing and how to do it. If that sounds like your type of thing, I'd say it's worth a buy at the sale price.

Keep in mind that the promo goes until 11:59pm Pacific on the 24th...so, barring any psn outages, that basically gives you a window to shop for the rest after the store updates Tuesday. Might be worth waiting to see what's on sale next week before trying to hit the $100 mark.

Geez, so many games I never heard of on sale this week. I managed to narrow my maybe list down to the following:

Final Exam

Hohokum

Magus

Mars: War Logs

Q Bert Reloaded

Odin Sphere

Are any of these worth picking up?    Leaning towards Hohokum and War Logs.

What are your thoughts on buying digital? I'm nervous about making the commitment and not having the option of trading or uninstalling/reinstalling off disc to save space.

I like your avatar. you and himi sp? are pretty creative taking the boring default and making it like the way you do.
Thanks. I actually had the default for years and, at some point, just decided it would be amusing to throw a few filters/effects on it in an art program. Figured people skimming the forums might catch it and do a double take :)

My thoughts if it's cheap or PSN exclusive or it's a PSP game for my Vita i'll buy digital. If it's avaliable as either a cartridge or disk I will always go for it. I still remember buying a few games digital than getting physical later (P4 Golden and Dragon's Crown Vita)....I should have just waited. If you want to not have to buy cartridges/dvds and just switch games on the menu go digital.

Just have to remember even physical PS4 games take up wayyyyyyyy too much disk space when installing.

You'll find the digital vs physical debate in a ton of the threads on this forum (or any gaming forum for that matter)... I, personally, prefer physical and usually only buy digital if it's really cheap or only available digitally. Here are some of the pros/cons that often come up.

Digital:

pros: convenient, buy it now and download with instant gratification, can re-download, sometimes crossbuy, can play without getting up off the couch to put a disc in (lol), no wear on your blu-ray drive

cons: can't sell them back, they probably won't be available forever (let's face it, someday, the psn servers for older systems are going to shut down...so they're effectively very long term rentals), some take up huge amounts of HD space, you're at the whim of Sony (i.e. Don't like the new psn terms of service? Too bad...click agree or you lose your account)

Physical:

pros: You own it and can play it as long as your console works (albeit maybe without patches in the future), can sell it back, you sometimes get booklets and things like preorder/LE goodies, they take up less HD space (some still have big installs, though)

cons: You have to go to a store or order and wait, you have to get up to put a disc in, wear on the blu-ray drive, you only get the version you buy (except in a few instances where the physical ps3 games come with the digital version for vita), they take up space on a shelf

Odin sphere!

Thank you for all of the advice posts on digital vs physical. I'm going to think about it a little longer and wait for the Tuesday sales to pop.

Debating on picking up Dragon Age Inquisition/Diablo 3 since I have the physical copy but I like not having to swap discs all the time.

Unfortunately all the trade in options bring in way less then I'd pay for them digitally.

I too am thinking about jumping to digital for Far Cry 4 and Shadow of Mordor. it would be an even swap if i trade them to Best Buy and maybe profit alittle.

Right now Im looking at

Muramasa Rebirth DLC - 7.5

Dragon Age - 36

Thats $43.

Far Cry 4 and Shadow of Mordor bring it to $105. Or I can go with a year of PS+ and find some $7 filler to get to $100. I think Im gonna wait and see the next sales before committing

I generally buy Disc and not digital, but there are exceptions..

i'll trade the disc in and replace with the digital version, when the digital game is on sale and the trade in is worth it. I'm not going to buy a new release for $60 digitally.. unless thats the only option and I really want the game. And then there's cross buy to consider..

And since i have a Vita and PSTV.. Buying the digital version of a PS4 game is much easier for me to remote play whatever I want at any time.

So when I decide I want a game, I'll look into both prices and then decide. For a Vita only game, I will pay a few $'s more for the cart rather than digital even though I have a 64GB memory card for it. But most of my Vita games are digital just because of the PS+ stuff, cross buy, huge discounts on sales..

I still need $35.03 to put me over the $100 mark..

Only game I'm thinking of now is Tomb Raider, but I own the complete game on PC.. (was like $6-7 on steam with all DLC) But thats only $14..

Maybe DA:I

I got it in my Gamefly 2 month trial.. I liked what I played of it. (a day..) but it wasn't a game i feel the need to buy just yet. it would be a buy and "get to it eventually" game.. I may play TR. But again.. already can play it on PC.

I'm just hoping that next weeks sale is good. My luck would be that Sony decides that next week... there is no sale. fuck

anyone know if the Focus sale is going to come to xbox? Theres a few games i want like of orcs and men and .. forgot the name, the sombie side scroll shooter game. However i have a bunch of MS points that they are for some reason deleting if i dont spend them in a few months, so if this sale is going to be there id rather get them on the xbox. It says 'this week sony' on the banner so im thinking they will do a MS one? Or did they arleady do it?

I'm with this guy. Odin Sphere is probably my favorite PS2 game of all time. If you can get Muramasa Rebirth, get that too. But I prefer Odin Sphere.

What are your thoughts on buying digital? I'm nervous about making the commitment and not having the option of trading or uninstalling/reinstalling off disc to save space.
I was totally against it at first, but it's extremely convenient to be able to select the game that you want to play at any time. And the best thing about PSN is that you can have up to 2 of each system so if your system breaks, you can just re-download your games again onto another system.

Many CAGs have also bought larger hard drives to install in their PS3s and just re-downloaded everything on the new drives.

If you're still on the fence about digital games, focus on buying just the ones that you can only get on PSN that aren't available as a physical disc. That's what I had planned to do originally but now I've got over 100 games each on my PS3 and 360 systems and probably around 40 on my Vita. The cheaper prices for downloads and the fact that I didn't have to keep finding places to put DVD cases was why I started buying digital for some retail releases.

I love being able to just select the game without switching discs as well. I feel the industry wants us in digital. Less cost for then and possibly more sales due to people cannot sell a digital game used like a disc can. Unless your set up an account for each game you guy digitally. Then you can resell that account. For that reason, I dislike digital for all games except favorites for past gens, or something cheap. Most games these days lack enough content to pay full price digitally. A skyrim/da:I/bf/cod type stuff where you are getting 100 hrs can maybe be justified. Again, ymmv on this as everyone is different.

Does it counts toward the spend $100, get $15 back offer if you use a PS+ code? The card itself was $50.
I'm pretty sure the answer is no. You have to spend the $100 from your psn wallet, meaning you could buy a $50 psn card, add it to your wallet, and then buy a year of ps+ on the playstation store, and that would work. But I don't think entering a card code you bought elsewhere for the service itself will count.

Vita sold me on our digital future.  It's just so convenient.   I have a couple physical games but rarely think to get them out and play them when I have so many digital games installed.

It all depends on the price, though.  I usually wait for deep discount sales to get things.  If I was going to buy Day 1 I'd definitely go physical, beat it, and sell it.

digital is fantastic, as someone who hates clutter its great having Sony store all my games for me and me redownload them whenever I feel like playing.  With a 100 mbit internet connection it takes maybe 15 minutes to fully download most games, and my internet speeds go up every year.

Keep in mind there is no disc footprint difference at all with ps4/xbone games, whether physical or digital they both fully install and run from the hard drive only.  The disc is only there to verify you own the game, nothing is read from it after install while you play the game.

My general policy is to buy physical at launch for GCU discount, and if I really like the game I'll rebuy digitally when it goes on sale and I didn't finish the game already.  This week has been great, traded in my copies of DA:I and Shadow of Mordor and bought DA:I, Telltale Games, and a few other things to hit the $100 discount mark.  Along with Diablo 3, Destiny, and GTA5 its half a dozen games that last forever and I can swap between without ever having to get up.

and thats truly the American Way, playing video games without having to get up

Far Cry 4 and SoM are pretty good games but both are 20-30 hour games and don't have much replay value, whereas DA:I, GTA5, Diablo 3, etc are 100+ hour games imo and better for digital.

Speaking of Diablo 3...

another CON for buying Digital.

When D3 came out on consoles, I was reading about the slow load times on D3 if you had the disc.. but the digital install ran fine. (PS3)

so.. I bought digital and all was great.

until Reaper of Souls drops.. guess what? you can't buy the expansion without buying the entire game + expansion together. Like you could on PC, so I skipped RoS on the PS3 and went back to playing on PC for a long time.

I bought D3:UEE on PS4 eventually on sale, and it's my most played title, but it was the point that blizzard wouldn't sell me the expansion by itself they just made an entirely new game instead.

I'm not sure how many times game companies have done similar stuff.. but it is possible.

Once I get google fiber in this year I will probably switch to more digital titles. As it is right now I'm not patient enough to wait on my slow ass "high speed" connection.

So will we able to wait and see this coming week's sale before the Spend $100 get $15 back promo ends?
You should, has worked in the past. As frisky always says while waving his finger in a grumpy dad voice "The longer you wait though the more likely it won't count." Aka decide and buy after the sale goes up and not at 11:59.

Is this a definite thing? I thought I remembered reading about some people who got burned doing this in past sales. The promo ended when the site updated on Tuesday or something.

If it's in the terms it should run until then. I've never had a problem when I've done these of buying after the store updated. Keep your time stamped emails and such in case you need to contact them.

Digital is also great if you have more than one of the same system in your house or if you have another family member / close friend that also has that system. Can purchase the game one time and it can be used on two different systems.
