My MM New 3DS has shifted to preparing order, so I guess that will ship today. Sweet! Even more surprising is that the CE of the game that shipped late yesterday is out for delivery already. Guess it's time to decide whether I'm selling it.

Edit: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00RUMLPTG/

I'm selling it.
Holy crap, now I might just sell both game CEs instead of keeping the statue from one of them.

My son's MM LE is out for delivery too. He is going to be excited when he finds out it arrived/is arriving. I had told him I thought it would be next week.

Those TVs with the really high refresh rate look kind of weird. I don't have one so whenever I see it at Costco/BB/whatever it's hard to get used to. I'm sure it's better but something about it just makes everything look like a soap opera.
Thats not a high refresh rate, thats the motion setting thing. High refresh just means its a smooth picture for fast moving stuff, doesnt mean it has the soap opera effect.

Nice. I never noticed that advertised on those TVs, just the high refresh rate, so I thought it was the refresh rate at fault. Nice to see that the MI option can be turned off in most TVs. It doesn't look good at all IMO.

I remember I was bitching about this when I was at my brother's, because his crazy wife prefers that soap opera effect. And it seemed at that time that half this thread prefers it as well. fucking weirdos.

Yeah, no shit. I was just playing around in Amazon celler central to see what my take would be after fees and the one that was listed for $200 is gone now. I generally don't like to list things until I have the product in my hand, but I'm tempted to strike while the iron's hot.

Edit: Wait, now the $200 one is back. I can wait for my package to get here then.

Edit 2: It's gone again. It is fucking nuts that people are willing to spend $160 for that little statue (when you factor $40 for the price of the game).

Yeah, 2160p sounds dumb. 4K was weird at first but is much better than saying "twenty one hundred sixty p." or "twenty one sixty p"

Also I know you were kidding but I wouldnt bother with a 4K TV right now because nothing is shown in 4K yet and most TV is still 720 even.

I liked The Shining and loved Full Metal Jacket. Every other Kubrick movie is just plain strange and downright dumb. I am looking at you Clockwork Orange. How anyone could enjoy that movie is beyond me. It is just sick. And dumb. Pointless. And yes I know its based on a book. The book had to be worse. I see it was written in the 60s so its obvious the dude that wrote it was high as a kite.
I like Clockwork for the weird lingo the main gang uses. I actually used a bit of it last night before y'all started talking about Kubrick (#CAGstradomus).

Movie is pretty fucked up though. I remember showing a scene from the reprogramming in some college class and then talking about it related to school shit. Probably a writing class? Or Psychology? Something.

Its good for sports but everything else is poo poo.

Goes without saying I think that it is not good for the videagames, introduces some decent input lag.

Fancy a bit of the ultraviolence?

Man those prices for the MM 3DS game are tempting. I ended up with 3 (one to open, one to keep sealed, and one as a gift for the best man in my wedding since he missed preorders) but maybe I'll sell the sealed one after all. Hard to see it going much higher than the $250ish on Amazon right now

I would like to nominate Thinner as the worst Stephen King movie.  Couldn't stand that shit in the theater.

Stand By Me is good and y'all already discussed the Shawshank and Green Mile and IT and Shining and Pet Cemetery.  Carrie was also good and old-timer cheesy.  And Misery was also damn damn good.

I watch Under the Dome with the wife.  She read it but I didn't.  She can't remember much of the book though, so she can't tell if it follows it or not, even though I read they kind of moved away from the book ending with King's blessing.  It's pretty cheesy and the teenagers can't really act worth a bag of dicks, but it's pretty entertaining.

I really want them to make those damn Dark Tower movies/TV show/movies again because that shit is the shit.  I also really wanted to see his Insomniac novel turned into a movie.  Or Duma Key.  Or Bag of Bones.  Or the Talisman.

Fun Fact:

The elementary school building I went to when I lived in Maine for three years was apparently the high school building that Stephen King attended.  There were rumors that the high school track coach was one of the people that a Stand By Me character was based on.

I think we've already covered all of the great Stephen King movies. The Shining is definitely #1 for me. Then Shawshank. I've only seen 1 person mention The Mist so far, but that one is pretty awesome. For sure the most recent "great" adaptation of one of his stories. But that shouldn't be surprising since Frank Darabont directed it. He seems to have a knack for doing King's stories (Shawshank and The Green Mile).

Edit: And I used to really like/be scared shitless of It has a kid. But man is that rough to get through now. Tim Curry does kind of make it bearable, though.

The problem with Stephen King is that he puts way too much detail into his books. To the point where it can sometimes be overwhelming and annoying. He'll just sit there and drag on for pages and pages about stupid shit that doesn't even matter. And then one line of that will have a key plot element that you might not pick up on.

Then trying to turn that into a movie either works, or fails miserably. TV is even harder, because networks want something that's going to last, and the days of a good miniseries are long gone. But that's how UTD should have been. One season, 10 episodes.

Solution?

Dont read books. Seriously I see and hear so many people complain about movies because "it isnt as good as the book" or "they left out my favorite part" bla bla bla. SHUT IT!

How else am I supposed to feel smug and superior to the rest of the people in the theater and message boards?

<snip>

I WAS able to use the Agera to beat Pharma's average speed score by 0.1 MPH on The Getaway (the second to last event)

Just have 15 or so Jack Spots to locate and I'll have the plat.
I do not like the sound of this. I thought the Bugatti didn't handle worth a shit so I was hoping the Agera would be better for when I went back to win that race. :(

Man, the actual 100% on this game is pretty brutal. An obscene number of collectibles and the races are already getting too tough for me. I'll be amazed if I manage to finish through most wanted #5.

Christine I also enjoy, though I would agree Shawshank Redemption is the best.

How is the adaptation of the Stand? I've been meaning to watch that at some point.

Brutal? With the games you play and plat/100%?

You cant be serious. -Surely

Nah, you can read books. And then you can hate movies. I don't dislike those things because they're not as good as the book, but usually because they're shitty movies or tv shows.

But since I'm old now and can't really get into reading as much as I used to, I think I'm just going to Wikipedia every book that's the basis for a movie or show I want to see.

Stand was pretty rough.

Every SK adaptation I'm aware of was American. I get that, but it'd be nice to see some of his stuff get picked up by BBC. They're a lot better about miniseries, which is really how the bulk of SK's stuff should be handled.

Got a 2nd MM 3DS console order in at Target.com.  They say in stock right now for whatever reason, though lots of people think they'll get canceled.  But I figured I'd grab a 2nd one in case it goes through.

Those LE prices are crazy....have me flip-flopping on keeping mine as well.

Damn you suck. Clockwork Orange is awesome and 2001 is even better.

Yea debating this too. I have shadows, metro redux, and soon the order. trying to keep the ps4 backlog down. Never really got into fc3 and this one is supposed to not be as good.

Although tyler got the plat so it must be pretty easy.
Your plats are Resistance Vita and Walking Dead. You make Pharm look like a major league gamer.

I did the same, though it's just my first order. If I'm somehow able to sell both game LEs for $130+, I might do the crazy thing and keep the MM New 3DS XL while selling off my current Mario & Luigi XL, but who knows?

It's totally fun, but I realized last night that I have like 120 out of the 350-400 collectibles (combining cameras (mostly done!), billboards and gates). And then I was all 'that's a shitload of collectibles, how did I not notice that?'. Then I realized gator wasn't done yet who has a fair amount more time and skill than me (even in racing games).

But I'll agree that I play shit that's considerably more brutal.

Got to unlock (and possibly pro upgrade, that's what I did) impact protection (offers more control than stock), track tires, long gear, light frame, and your preferred nirtrous. It is still difficult to handle, but its a lot better than the shitty Agera. Also a tip, if you are having trouble staying on the road at the beginning of the race with those sharper turns, drive in oncoming, the turn is gentler. Then cross back over to the proper lane for the straight away. Also once you come out of the airfield you might be better off driving in oncoming too. Not only is that turn pretty sharp at the exit, but halfway between the exit of the airfield and the finish line there is a steep hill drop on the right side of road that always causes me to fly into the air, and run into the wall at the bottom of the hill.
