I was into death/speed/thrash (much of it was imports) metal more then the hair bands. Not to say I hated ALL the hair bands but I disliked many of them. Some bands didn't start off as horrible hair bands but changed into them later. Out of your list I liked early, Def Leppard, Gun N Roses (upto and through the double live album), Van Halen (till 1984 album) and a handful of Kiss songs. Most these bands jumped the shark at some point and I tuned out. Bon Jovi had one or two songs that I liked but I was never a fan. I also liked the first Cinderella album but that is about for them as well. First few Ratt Albums and even early Twisted Sister.I find it hard to believe when people say they don't like hair bands. You don't have to like all of them, but there's got to be something you like! Def Leppard's Pour Some Sugar On Me? Guns N Roses Paradise City? Poison's Every Rose Has A Thorn? Bon Jovi? Van Halen? Warrant? Kiss? So many options for the discerning music connoisseur!
One band that went from Hair band to hardcore was Pantera. Their first album was very hair bandish. Each album (and their apperence) got more and more hardcore.
