I'll admit, I don't know any of his work. I'm open to both an unknown and a well known dude here. I know Javier Bardem was in the running at one point.

And seems Matthew McConahuey might play Randall Flagg, which means nothing to you since you haven't read them.
McConahuey would be a great fit for Flagg. He just oozes asshole and douchebag in every role. I can't imagine anybody better for the part.

You've probably seen Idris Elba even if you don't remember it. He plays Heimdall in the Thor movies. The big black guy that doesn't do much but looks really imposing at the bridge thing. He was also the older robot pilot in Pacific Rim and Charles Miner from The Office. You should absolutely check out Luthor. It's on Netflix and the fourth season airs on BBC this month (only 2 episodes, though.) The entire series so far is like 15 episodes so it's not a huge time sink. Fantastic show, though.

I did not know that Randall Flagg was a character in the Dark Tower series too. I know the character from The Stand though.

Any of you nerds read Stephen King's Dark Tower saga?

Seems Idris Elba is in the running to play Roland.

Can't wait to see these on the big/little screen.
Apparently people who've read the entire series say this is a bad idea because there are some plot elements directly referring to Roland's white-man-ness (he looks similar to Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name), but maybe they're just Stephen King fanboys and it could work anyway.

My apologies if that came out as Thermian. I meant to convey I thought they had finally made the multiplayer kind of fun, but then removed it altogether in the last couple of iterations. I know some people loved Wolfpack. I hated it just like I hate 99% of competitive MP. I do tend to really like co-op MP though.
I get it man.

and wolfpack was total shit. I had more fun playing it solo than I did with people by leaps and bounds. they had a relatively good idea - coop assassination with extra credit for synchronizing your moves and targets that had different abilities. the execution is basically terrible though as you have to either a.) go fast and disregard any sort of synchronization/sneaking around if you want to make it to the end with enough time (and of course you're auto-detected as soon as you kill one of the four targets so it turns in to a big mess anyways) or b.) go slow and plot your kills and forget about 'winning'... uuuuntil like the 6th round where suddenly they can start to detect you if you cough at 50 yards.

the 1v1 and 4v4 were fun until they started focusing on dumb skills like animus hacks instead of stabby stabby and sometimes poison. and all of trophies were excessively stupid timewasters.

What's your opinion on it? Feel free to leave the quotes from reddit on it.

You've never watched The Wire?

As I said, I haven't read the books, so I don't have one. The people I was referring to are on Ain't It Cool News, which tends to have really pathetic comment sections on its articles, so that's why I said they could be wrong.

Sounds like people who are closet racists to me. I can not think of a single reason why it should matter even if the books say he was white why the role could not be played by a person of a different race. I am pretty sure that King would be involved in the casting and if it is OK with him everyone should shut up.

Hey Zimm do you know if there will be any Cartwheel deal for a XBoner?

Two people I know are looking to buy one for Christmas.

-SorryPSNot
Right now there's a 10% offer for the Halo 5 bundle and a 15% offer for all other XBoner bundle sets. Both last through the end of the day Saturday.

That's never stopped me. :whistle2:k

Yeah, that's how I feel about it. Idris Elba has been awesome in every movie with him I've seen, so I'm more inclined to trust in his acting.

Nothing about it sounds closeted.

Having said that I can't think of a single black main character from Stephen King movies/shows. Green Mile and Shawshank are the closest I can recall. Maybe I'm forgetting somebody but he's certainly due to have a black actor represent his work, I think.

We talkin about books? Not a game...not a game...not a game. We talkin about books! Not a game. Not, not … Not the game that I go out there and die in and play every game like it's my last. Not a game, but we're talking about books, man. I mean, how silly is that?

I guess you missed my prior posts about reading and books. I wasnt kidding. I really dont read any books. And this post captures one of the main reasons why. Seems like such a waste of time to spend hours and hours reading books when you can watch the same thing on the TV in 2-3 hours. yeah yeah, details.
i love books so much. i just found out that Coraline was written by Neil Gaiman so now i gotta read that book too. My daughter just picked up some smoke and mirrors book of his short stories and i need to read that when she is done. I used to have coworkers that would take smoke breaks and I would read the whole time. I used to read everything Palahniuk wrote but i havn't read his stuff lately.

i always think of that seinfeld quote about keeping books like trophies is silly. iv got 5 bookshelves full and i need more cuz books pile up here. I tried reading conrad's heart of darkness a few days ago cuz i read it influenced ish spec ops and apocalypse now and it was so rough to read but gotta try to give the classics a go.

also Idris Elba is awesome. he rocks so hardcore

also shout out to one of my all time favorite books 'aint nobodies business if you do, the absurdity of consensual crimes in a free society' peter mcwilliams is a hero. rip

That guns up game any good?

I got into the Dark Tower books late (between books 4 & 5) and there was no prospect at all of it becoming a movie/TV series at the time.  I also worked a lot of overnight hotel shifts back then so I had loooooooots of time to read (since I couldn't earn trophies back then).  Was all caught up by the time book 5 came out and read 5-7 right as they came out.  I still haven't read the one he put out after 7th book though.  I should get on that.  I have a couple of the comic collections though.  My favorite book series so I'm super excited it's finally looking like the movie/TV series is gonna happen.

As far as the race of Roland, who cares.  Yeah he's modeled after bad-ass Clint (as Gator said), but I don't remember any specific white people things he does that would need to be kept.  I mean if the people bitching about are just quoting passages that say "..across his pale skin..." or some shit like that, then fuck those people.  Anyone that can portray bad-assness is cool by me.

And no I haven't seen The Wire, but I know the bridge guard dude from Thor.  And I saw a trailer for Luther in front of the Sherlock blu-ray the lady friend borrowed me.

As far as Randall Flagg, he's every damn where.  I love all the interconnectivity of the whole King universe.

I remember someone telling me that Jack Reacher was described as a big/tall dude in the books yet Tom "The Shrimp" Cruise played him in the movie.   Who the fuck cares.  Is the movie good or not is what should matter.

strategy guides don't count as books, dork. even if they are versus. (been re reading this versus ff7 guide, so good, getting ready to play the game, final attack+phoenix ready to go)

i love books so much
I used to read fantasy books constantly, one a day usually, but I got so sick of the tired save the world nonsense. The Game of Thrones type books (large cast in a war-torn world) don't appeal to me at all anymore either. Every once in a while I'll come across something magic of sci-fi that's more about a character's life and personal goals, modest coming of age and such, and I'll read that but mostly I just don't read novels much anymore.

iv got witcher 3, wasteland 2 and a bunch of other great games sealed up and im here playing f2p gems and gunsup etc.

guns up is alot like battle islands. you make a base and attack other bases. it is good enough altho you def need to level up alot before you can even attempt defenses. my stats on defense are like 1win and 44 losses while im not there so idk. but yeah, its a game and im a sucker for games that dont require much effort to get into

Used to be big on fantasy books myself. Haven't read many/any in recent years though. I got stuck somewhere in the 3rd or 4th GoT book. Just got too long winded with too many characters that didn't particularly appeal to me. Been reading a lot more non-fiction and memoirs lately. A bit shorter and more consistently engaging for me. I think I've read 4 or 5 books this year? More than I've read in the past few years.

I saw a trailer for Luther in front of the Sherlock blu-ray the lady friend borrowed me.
Is this another Wisconsin-ism? The people I know from there use borrowed instead of lent and it is like nails on a chalk board to me. Strange Therm-like pet peeve, I know... Please do not use on-line instead of in-line too.

I did a search before posting and saw the wiki page about him being in 9 books. I just scanned the list, but it seems to all be books I did not read and I do not recall him in any of the movie adaptations for books I had not read. Not sure how I could have missed all of the other books with him in it.

i try to read alot but im pretty slow and try to 'enjoy' it and think about it. my oldest daughter on the other hand can read those thick harry potter books in a few days. the bookstore is useless cuz i will buy her a book and she will have it read by the next day, so the library is our friend now. She reads it so fast and then i try to quiz her and she barely knows what she read so i think she just speed reads but her comprehension and retainment is lacking, lol. i dont read much fantasy anymore, but my wife and her love all those hunger games, divergent, city of glass/city of ash, cast house of night books, etc. im more into the books you can't get anymore (loompaniacs, uncle fester, etc) My dad had a small library and when i was a teen he left and i got to keep most of his books. He was a far right wing military man but if you got far right enough it goes left again like a circle so here i am.

Jack Reacher is also supposed to be black IIRC. Honestly I can get this criticism a lot more than complaints of white people taking colored roles; there are so few big movies that source a colored main character (from real life or other form of fiction) that replacing those few opportunities with a white actor just seems shitty. Hollywood likes to cast young actors/actresses based on older roles as well--Jennifer Lawrence's new movie Joy is a good example since the character is supposed to be in her 40s with a kid during the events of the movie.

OTOH Hollywood casts based on what they think will sell best. It's an investment and you have to respect the approach they take with such things. I'm not sure I agree that less people will go see a movie if the main actor/actress isn't white, but I don't go watch Tyler Perry movies either so it's hard to argue that point.

the worst book i ever bought was 'naked girls smoking weed' best of 420 girls by rob griffin. Barely any of the girls were hot and it just was not a good read.

FO4 peeps: Do I need to carry around the junk that consists of materials for upgrades/settlement stuff? I haven't gotten to a real vendor yet to sell off extra weapons, but I'm frequently hitting my carry capacity thanks to all of the random stuff I'm picking up because I don't know if they're made of materials that I'll need.

I think colored went out in the 70s for the most part.

I would have to read a bit about it to understand what is going on but yeah I bet that would be a good one too.
Konami pulled a contract restriction bitchfest to prevent Kojima from showing up at the Video Game Awards. They got called out on it by the host of the show. It was great.

Sounds like a dick move. Also Konami in general is failure now right? Are they even going to make video games anymore?
