The most bizarre thing about European soccer to me is that the regular season and playoffs (Champions League) over lap.
Before today, Wolfburg was in the final 8 of the Champions League, basically one of the 8 best teams in Europe. They're also somehow 8th in Germany right now in their country league. Like, how can a team that's been able to advance in the Champions League against the best of the best struggle so much in their own country?
(The answer, I assume, is that the Wolfburg coaches have been prioritizing Champions League matches, making sure all the best players are rested and ready to go for those, at the expense of the regular season in the German league. It's still weird.)
