Rainbow Six: Vegas - Gen. Discussion & Info

Do you guys think this game is as fun as Gears of War? From what I've read and from the pictures I've seen, the gameplay for both is similar.

They're similar and different at the same time. Both games revolve around taking cover and stratagizing a plan of attack. The differences being that in gears of war you are an armored up cog or an alien that can take about 30 bullets, in rainbow six you can take like 3 bullets. Both are fun to play but rainbow six takes more work to get good at and has the realism factor.
LOL.

It was an annoying part I agree, it took me like 3 or 4 tries. Just remember the enemy patterns, and shoot them in the sequence you remember them. Like, I'd always shoot the two in the middle, the two to the right, then to the left, then shoot them as they came. Also, if you have any more frag nades, be sure to just chuck them down onto the floor when they start rapelling in and coming through the main entrance. I also hid to the left of the computer, behind one of those black boxes.

Also, I'd love to get some online going. Anyone who wants to add me can.
I felt extremely bad and yet really good at the same time a few days ago when I beat this. I restarted the scene with a 100 bullet machine gun and beat it in 1 try, after the dozens of attempts previously. I had a bad weapon for that part of the game, obviously, and it cost me atleast an hour of frustration in total over a few days. It's done now, though, and I'm on the last Chapter.
Too good for YouTube?
Lol

Any who, that paypal 15 dollars of 30 expires at the end of march, any chance this will take a drop on ebay to around 35 (its at around 45 right now). 20 AR would be sweet!

I might have to restart this game and play on the "pussy" level. I'm on the second compaign (the first time going inside a Casino) and am at the part where you're hunting down the computer room to hack (I think). Anyway, I get to the Hotel lobby and need to go up like 6 flights of stairs, so far I have BARELY made it to the 3rd floor up before I get massacred. There's like a rush of 10 guys at once every floor you go up ... after restarting the checkpoint about 15 times I said "fuck this, I'm playing Saint's Row".

This door will lead you to a stairwell where you'll be safe from any hostiles. There's a room like this on EVERY floor, so use it to your advantage when taking out the hostiles. Everytime you go up a flight of stairs, you'll trigger more enemies to your position. So trigger them, then run back to the stairwell room. I would suggest that you bring the scout rifle with you on this level as well, or at least something with a good amount of zoom.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, that does help. I found it on the first floor but then got RAPED on floors 2 and 3. Does the stairwell go up to the next floor? Like can I just use that stairwell to progress through the floors (and taking the baddies out from cover)?

When you do get across the way from the stairway access though, watch out for the door on the next floor up as some enemies spawn and try to pick you off from the doorway of the stairway access.

So just take out whoever you can (drawing them out with pistol fire works too), and run to the next floor. If you trigger another set of enemies just run back to the same stairwell you came out of. I can't stress enough how important it is to have a sniper rifle with you at this level.

Smoke helps. Just throw one on the top of the stairs, haul, and sit in the smoke real quick, while bringing up your tactical map and look for the stairwell room like Markez pointed out. Then, haul into that room. And all this needs to happen within a span of a few seconds.

When you get in the stairwell room, send your teammates either to the next door, or upstairs (I cant remember atm), and have them pick off anyone that tries to get to you. Then, from where you entered the stiarwell, cover up against the wall, and pick off as many as you can. When you can't see anyone else, move to the next area.

If you still have trouble, I could post something along the lines of a video walkthrough, but I wouldn't really have enough time untill Friday afternoon/night. Or if anyone else is struggling somewhere else, and wants to see something actually done on video, I could show you.

Edit: Ok, just realized that you can get to the stairwell. Anyways, IIRC, there are other stairwells, no?

I just got the game today (from joshthegreat69, thanks) and I started out on realistic difficulty. I couldn't get past the first part. I that's only because I'm drunk right now. But I promised myself I wouldn't start out videogames on pussy difficulties anymore, so I'll get past that part sometime this week when I play it again.

I can't even figure out how to put it on Realistic difficulty :(

10 maps is pretty fucking sweet. Despite releasing a new instalment in their series annualy, Ubisoft knows how to make a game last.
I can't even figure out how to put it on Realistic difficulty :(
I don't think you can change it mid-game. If you want realistic, you have to start over. Also, beware, there is some glitch where the difficulty will somehow reset to normal, and you won't get the achievment for beating it on realistic.
IGN states today 5 new maps (actually three new and two relit) and two new game modes.
Yeah, but that's just the "red pack".

I'm pretty sure there will be another pack... maybe a "blue" pack. Personally I'm hoping for a "pink" pack.

Sounds like the Ubisoft that we have all come to know and love.

Well, I was able to get to the top floor last night on my 5th attempt, talk about having to memorize where to step ... please tell me there aren't alot of firefights like this one.

Anyway, get to the top floor and what happened here to DT778 happened to me. I snake-camed the room, was trying to decide which guys to tag and how to open the door, then RAT-TAT-TAT -- all hostages dead thanks to the terrorists ... MOTHERF***ER!!!! I put the controller down, turned off the 360, and took 5 minutes to calm down. I'll try again tonight now that I know what I'm up against.

From there you have a perfect vantage point on how to execute the entry plan for your team. Just pop the terrorists closest to the hostages while sending in your team at the same time, and it should be a piece of cake.

Actually, you just can't take your time. I listened to the dialouge the first time, and yeah, won't spoil it, but you can't take your time.

Anyways, heres the takedown down sucessfully, and then me messing around after:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AQYQP120

I also have a vid of the whole fighting up the escalators part, and a failed takedown after(only because it glitched, you'll see), but I won't be able to get that up until tommorow.
Actually, you just can't take your time. They give you an ample amount of time, even on the realistic difficulty. You just need to be precise.

My bad, didn't mean to make it sound like the ladder took too long (I'll even admit, I didn't even know there was a ladder). It's just because he said that he didn't even get a chance to get in the room, I knew he was taking way too much time.

Edit: I just watched my own video, and now I see it >_

I recently got the game and must say im happy i did. I tried the face mapping and finally made a guy that looks somewhat like me...except he has a really annoying mark on the top of his head >.< I guess a hat will fix that in the future

anyhow, i played the entire co-op with a friend friday, and its a pretty lengthy/satisfying adventure.

Since i beat the game once, i wanted to just play it on realistic for single player, but sadly it seems the glitch where it switches the difficulty to normal is still there :( Anyway around this?

Also i found a glitch when i was playing, i tried to get against a wall and throw a grenade in a room but it wouldn't let me. Not only that, but i couldn't get off the wall anymore and nothing i tried would, so i had to just let my friend finish the level ;(

Just started playing the game a couple days ago. So much fun.

Stupid question, but does anyone know how you get into the face mapping program? I already made a custom character for XBL, without using the face mapping, and I can't seem to be able to change it.

After you enter Xbox Live from the main menu in Vegas, it's somewhere in the last menu option where you can check your rank, clan tag/prefix, etc. You need to reset your character's appearance to change the face, when you choose your face, the last option should be the Vision Camera.

I want to use the shield in t-hunt so I'm going through the missions solo now since I'm pretty sure it wont let you pick it up in co-op story. If I pick it up can my roommate use it too or does he also have to pick it up on his own solo story mode? We are playing offline splitscreen if it matters.

No, he has to pick it up, but he can pick it up from you. Just turn on or off friendly fire (whichever makes it so you can kill eah other). You have a shield, he kills you, take your shield, then he should be able to select it in the equipment. Or, play a level, find a gun a T drops, you swap your sheild for it, he swaps his gun for your shield.

I'm fairly sure that would work. When I play with my friend in Co-Op t-hunt(offline), if he takes one of my weapons when I die that he doesn't have(not sure if you have to finish the level, its been a while), he can chose it in the equipment the next game.

Does anyone know exactly how the Normal/Realistic difficulty glitch happens? I beat the game on Normal and am starting over on Realistic. Just want to make sure I avoid the glitch (if possible) or else I'll be REAAAAALY pissed after I beat the game and I don't get my 100 achievement points.

IIRC, when you get shot, on realistic, is doesn't show where from.
IIRC, when you get shot, on realistic, is doesn't show where from.
The difference on realistic is that your crosshairs won't turn red when you have it pointing at an enemy. Makes it more difficult to aim. Bullets also do more damage.

As for the glitch, I believe the safe way to do it is by going into your system blade. Going into your hard drive and deleting your checkpoint save file. Then start the game all over from the beginning on realistic difficulty. That's the last that I've read about it.

As far as I know, selecting the normal difficulty at all screws it up and you'll be able to start at Realistic but when you resume your save it will default to Normal. I tried deleting all the save files associated with RSV through the dashboard but that didn't work either. Not sure if they've patched it yet but I doubt it. For a hint, your reticule will light up (orange/red, I think) when it hovers over an enemy on Normal but not on Realistic.

EDIT: Too slow.

So if i never played on normal i should be all set? I beat the co-op on normal so i wanna just go straight to realistic for single player.

Guys, I have a big problem.

On the Dam level, I've brought the technician to the computer, and he told me to go hack the computer (that's on the "old system") in another building to give him access to the floodgates. So I get a checkpoint, and run down to activate the thing. No matter how fast I get Kim on the computer, it always gives me the messege "you didn't open the floodgates in time."

How in the hell do you get past this part? No matter how fast I go I always can't do it in time.

It's probably because the terrorists destroy the controls before he finishes. They like tossing grenades. There's one main group that comes from where you entered the outdoor area. Then there's two more that toss grenades behind you, coming from the dead end with the garage doors. Two guys pop out from there. Just have the one free guy set up with you near that garage door. He'll try to hold off the main group, while you watch out for the two behind you. A quick grenade toss as the doors open or a C4 right at the opening should take care of them. After that, just snipe away at the group incoming so they can't get close enough to destroy the console.

damn i justgot this game, its pretty hard...i guess because i'm used to the GoW style of play, so its different. maybe if i play it more, maybe i'll like it..but so far, not my preference. kind wished i saved the $40 to use towards crackdown or mlb 2k7

Always take cover. If you are moving into a new area, make sure to snake cam doors and set up your attack. Choose the right weapon for your situation. If you are indoors in smaller areas use a SMG. If you are out in the open with more range, use an assault rifle.

For tougher situations, smoke for cover and use thermal goggles. This bit helps out a lot in the game.

I think the most important/helpful feature in the game is the map since it plots enemy positions. It lets you know exactly where they are and lets you set up the attack.

Don't give up. It's a great game. You just have to get used to it.

I felt the same way as you when I first played it but after about a week, it really started to get into it. Just remember, the MP7A1 is your best friend on Live.

Definitely make use of your squad. Do the leap frog movement where you have them move about 15 feet in front of you to cover, go to them, then repeat the process.

Thanks man, I actually figured it out myself, which I'm slightly proud of.

I C4'd the pick-up truck coming in, then I shot the main group until just about when the back-doors opened, and as I took out the two guys coming in the back door, I detonated the C4. I was actually able to take them out fast enough that I never had to revive any of my awful CPU-controlled teamates.

rly723, I kind of know what you mean, because the first time I played Ghost Recon I was frusterated, but actually this game is really pretty damn easy. I've only had to restart at some parts where I stupidly run around a corner, or don't realize there's a grenade under my feet.

Other than that it's actually extremely easy. Just get used to it.

I wish I had played on Realistic instead of hard.

Much easier than GoW.

In MP it's up there in the corner, but in SP you have to press the back button, which means for me taking my left hand off the movement stick.

Takes way too much time.

As such, I absolutely NEVER use the map. Back in Mexico there were points where I tried to use it to figure out where to go, and it just confused me.
