Rainbow Six: Vegas - Gen. Discussion & Info

Man I didnt hear about the new maps at all, and all the sudden they are out. Im gonna have to get these asap.

And for crimsonpaw, the 2 new modes are both pretty awesome, I still prefer team survival but conquest is really good.

No new modes with the Black map pack. Streets Redux is nothing really new, just dark (night time). The other maps seem really cool but big which may steer people away from them (for some reason people hate the bigger maps).

because the characters are slow, and it takes so long to get across the bigger maps. You spend 20-30 seconds walking to an area, get shot, and start all over.

I play the game, but nothing like I did 2-3 months ago. Plus, I was hoping for added weapons, ranks, and etc too. I'll more than likely pass on this DLC.

theres your problem. ligten up on armor so you move faster, and don't get shot (use teamwork)

;)

...also use a gun with some range on it so you can kill dudes from across the map - saving you some walking.

so with two new packs to D/L, are people online starting to play a more varied set of gametypes/maps?

I'm curious because I stopped playing a while ago because all I would run into were Campus/T-Hunt and Calypso/Attack+Defend. Got boring.

Also I'm burnt out on GRAW2 for playing it straight for almost 3 weeks and would like to get back into R6.

I meant slow in comparison to the stage size, for example Mashalling Yard. I run with 3 bars on armor & -3 on mobility. I use can every gun down to light assault, mostly the P90, Famas, &/or 552 commando. Let me guess, you run with no armor & a MP9 or the Spas.

I run with no armor but only use ARs, currently using the SCAR. I honestly love the big maps along with the small ones cause it gives a change of pace and isnt just a grenade fest in one room (like the vault room in Casino Vault). When I played Marshalling Yard I loved it because of the size it allowed for multiple ways around a map so teams couldn't just camp one spot and wait for you. I found plenty of ways around, and yes it may have taken longer, but it was smarter to take those routes. Plus, if you're running 6 vs 6 or 7 vs 7 games, you'll still get the kills on bigger maps. Just my 2 cents anyways.

3 bars armor (2 bars legs, 1 bar chest) and an AK47 (acog) w/ Desert Eagle (mag).

the larger maps arent so bad. give them a chance. the thing is that you have to work as a team to cover the map effectively and it turns into less of a camp/explosive fest in 1 or 2 chokepoints allowing for more tactical routing of enemies with more flanking opportunities.

Very well said about the large maps. I looked at Border Town as a bigger map but it is also one of the best communicated maps as far as team work, basically cause one passed person could change the pace of play for a team. Plus, on a bigger map, the chances of getting trough a spawn camping are better cause the travel distance is greater to get back to the camping spots.

I, for one, am NOT downloading this based on what is included. This DLC is getting out of hand. Don't get me wrong, new stuff that extends a game's life cycle is nice but (if the price holds) they want another $10 for just 5 maps? I felt the Red pack was marginally overpriced for what it offered. I didn't really get into Conquest and Assassination created extremely short games. The maps were good but for $10 I got new game modes and maps. Now another $10 for only 5 maps. So for $80, I can have the game, 10 "new" maps and 2 new game modes (being a cheapass, it's closer to $60 for most of us). No thank you, the Black pack should be 400-600 points and discounted for those who purchased the Red pack. How about throwing in something other than maps and 2 new game modes for $20? Or some new weapons or ranks or accessories for free. I felt the same way after downloading the new maps for CoD2.

I'm beginning to think MS uses the point system so most people will not realize how much something really costs. DLC is the best new concept for the gaming industry in many years but is extremely lacking. If these companies continue to overprice and underwhelm, DLC will not survive.

Looks like the Black Pack may have been put out there in error: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/28/rainbow-six-vegas-black-edition-goes-awol/
So, the Rainbow Six Vegas Black Edition DLC really did appear on Xbox Live. It was brief, but it was there. But now, as you have already found if you've attempted a download over the past day or so, it is most certainly not there. The good Major offers little help on his blog, saying only: "This has been pulled. I'll let you know when it makes a return." Wow, cryptic.

There are, of course, plenty of delightful theories as to why the pack pulled a Judy on Family Matters. Some think that it got on to Marketplace too early, some think a critical bug was discovered. We like to think that Ubisoft was so racked with guilt over charging $10 for five maps (when that amount previously got you five maps and two new modes) that they pulled it. We admit that's not really likely. We'll be sure to update this post when it triumphantly returns.

GREAT NEWS!

Straight from Major Nelson.

Ubi has send me the official word on the RSV Black Pack (which went MIA earlier this week) and it is good news:

‘Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas Black Pack Downloadable Content for Xbox 360 Live was originally intended to be free content for the fans of Rainbow Six Vegas. We apologize for the error. All players who purchased the Black Pack will be reimbursed automatically. The Black Pack will be posted Saturday June 30th and will be free of charge. Also, as a token of our appreciation for the Rainbow Six community, we are making the Red Pack free as of Friday July 6th as well. Thanks for playing and we hope you enjoy this free content.’

Make sure your account information is up to date so we can properly apply the credit!

As I understand it the content should go out after 0300 PT.

Wow, that is superb. I wasn't willing to pay $10 just for new maps, but the free release is just great. And to get both of them free in a week? Wow. I spent the whole day playing, and I can't wait for next weekend.

Does this mean all the DLC for R6:V is now free (or will be, rather)? Or are there other addons that one needs to pay for?
Darn...well I'll get the refund, but I wish they can refund the 800 I spent on the red pack 2 weeks ago =/
Hell, I want the refund for the red pack I D/L'd along with the black one on Tuesday. Oh well, as far as getting some gaming going before Thursday, I'm always up for it.

The extra motivation on these map packs may include the fact that the PS3 version is going to include both DLC map packs for the same price. Now, personally I think getting the game months ahead of the PS3 was worth maybe missing out on a free pack or two, but Ubisoft clearly didn't want to upset their 360 user base. Either that or Microsoft pushed them into it, but that wouldn't fit with releasing the black pack on accident for $10.

Anyway, kudos to Ubisoft for keeping the playing field even and giving away something they really didn't have to.

Same here. Don't know exactly how much hermit action i'll be doing this weekend, but i'm definitely up for this at some point. Feel free to shoot me invites, i'll make room (got a bunch of homebrew beer to get through before it goes bad anyway)

Downloading now too.

Found it under Featured Downloads.

Wow... These maps are huge

Warzone: 70 Terrorists
Red Lotus: 50 Terrorists

Have yet to try the other maps.

So is anyone up for some Vegas later? I'm on a 360 Tom Clancy binge, back to GRAW after almost a year, and I'm going start Splinter Cell back up.
Overall how does everyone like this game, may have to get it once it drops a bit in price.
Probably my favorite game on the system.
I like it better than Gears. The controls are a lot better. I would suggest trying the Demo on Live Marketplace.

Also starting Sunday, Vegas (360) will be $39.99

Wow, on sale right when I was in the market to pick this game back up...perfect timing, Thanks for the info (the store is Circuit City, btw, for those who don't want to click thru).

I just prefer Gears because I had it first and all my friends have so we play it on Live together. But Vegas is definitely the better game in many ways. Not taking away from Gears, Gears is more addicting to me.
I tried the MP demo and must say that is quite fun, does it support clans so like team CAG vs Team X ?
Not really...It lets you add a prefix (3 letter code) to your name. For instance:

[CAG] LinkinPrime

This way, everyone can see who's with who, but there's no actual clan support. Its a blast though you have to get it, and for $39.99 at Circuit City, this week, you can't beat that.
this makes me wish i got this instead of gears...and damnit that CC price is tempting me :bomb:
do it man, cough up the $40 and taste the Rainbow.

you won't regret it, and you'll have a good number of CAGs to play with.

anyone good at those terrorist hunts and need the achievement? I need the co-op one for all the stages, and story mode too, but I'm doing those one by one..
