Red Dead Redemption- Out Now

Any tips for fighting back against bear attacks? If its just one I can manage, but generally they attack in groups of 2-3 with another in reserve.

One shotgun shot to the head will kill them. Unless you are trying to fight them without a weapon they shouldn't be a problem, especially since you can outrun them on foot.

You sure about that? The core game or UN?

I could have sworn the only thing that could one shot them is a sniper shot straight to the skull or the buffalo rifle.

EDIT: In the core game of course. A headshot from anything will kill an undead bear if I remember correctly. If not that; then they are still extremely easier to kill than the regular bears.

Core game, I'm 100% positive. Not sure about UN since the only time I ever killed a bear in that was for the torch killing challenge.

May have to be a stronger shottie, not sure, but I know at least one of them will.

Thanks. It worked but was a little too close for comfort, guess I'll try sniping if I can ever get the drop on the bear.

I just started this last week finally. So far so good but it seems like it will take FOREVER to finish everything. Last night I opened up the ability to play Liar's Dice, Horseshoes and Poker - I spent an hour and a half just doing that.

I'm also not 100% clear on what I should be doing as far as the main storyline goes - I've been getting missions from Bonnie (I just helped her herd some cattle) but that's about it. I've done 2 bounty missions and I also rescued some sheriff and cleared out a gang hideout where they were keeping him. The sheriff died in the gun fight though.

Trust me you wont want it to finish. I spent a lot of time just hunting, and doing side things other than the story. Enjoy it while you can. Because once its over, its over. I mean that you cant get back that first time experience. I wasnt saying once you beat the game you cant play on, because you can. Just like any GTA game.

RStar unlocked and awarded the Gentleman's Attire, Lady's Finery, and challenge rewards and cheats for the hunting and skinning social club challenge. Apparently, they never started it or another one which unlocks a posse t-shirt so they just unlocked this one.

Its been awhile, but I believe all of the story missions will be shown on the map by big letters. Everything else is just extra side missions and stuff. So basically if you want to progress through the story, only do the missions at the big letters on the map.

From the dash checked my avatar rewards and the posse tshirts are now unlocked too. They weren't the other day, but are now even though I didn't play it today.

I know this is a slightly odd/old bump, but I do have some pertinent questions and prefer this board to others.

It's been a while since I played the game at friend's house, however, that being the case I bought a copy of RDR back when it was $20 at Walmart last BF and started to play through the game during the PS3 blackout. Did they ever fix the weird glitches that occur during random parts of the game? For instance, the most annoying glitch I've encountered numerous times, so far, is where the game will go into a cutscene and lose all sound. Thankfully I have subtitles on, but this doesn't really matter as the game will subsequently either freeze/crash during the cutscene or directly after the cutscene. I've had to eject the disc/reset to the dashboard several time and it's really fucking annoying. It screwed me up on getting tons of free ammo following the attack on Fort Mercer. I've tried skipping the cutscene(s), but it just ends up crashing/freezing afterward anyhow. I had to redo the We Shall Be In Paradise Mission about 3 times because it was freezing/glitching at various points and times (once right at the end, but before the save). Pissed the hell out of me because I ended up wasting like 45 minutes on that part.

Never experienced anything like that or heard of that issue and I played alot of RDR from day one on. Seems like clearing the cache is often a plausible fix for things or maybe try installing the game and see if it happens.

What do you mean by clearing the cache? I thought about installing it, but I just don't want to waste the space really if I don't have to.

you figure installing a game of this size and length would be nothing but good for you, wasting time having to go back and redo missions seems far worse than wasting HDD space. as for clearing the cache, if you go to your memory settings there's an option to clear the cache. Memory > options > clear cache (iirc)

Unless you have a 20GB hard drive, you should install any game you play on a regular basis just to cut down on the drive spinning. 360's are loud, even the slims.

Never had any issues with any glitches and I've got a full 100% achievement completion if that tells you how much time I put into it.

just a heads up to anyone who still plays this online.....

Quadruple XP July 1-4 and some "fan appreciation" dlc will be dropping soon.

i dont really play this game online very much but 4x xp yes please. zombie horde mode and co-op are always fun.

Well I got on this weekend and took advantage of the XP boost to get all the way to lvl50 (from like lvl24 hehe). I gotta say, assuming the selection of people playing multiplayer is a random cross section of players, the percentage of people just being dicks or griefing is insane. I mean it's like 10-20% of the players, who just get online to grief. I mean seriously WTF? How is that even fun, especially in friendly free roam where you can't even hurt other players.

Anyhow, rant over. I love RDR (spent like 3-5 hours this weekend in SP just riding around visiting different locations and playing casino games) but the multiplayer really falls flat for me. Why oh why could they not make more SP content? It seems that Undead Nightmare was very well received- they couldn't take a hint from that?

i really took advantage of the 4x xp myself. went from level 37 to 50...prestiged and back up to level 35. i had a blast doing co op missions and undead over run. i rarely ran into griefers in friendly free roam, bunch of them in normal free roam though. my over all experience was cool friendly people. i also wish they had more single player content seeing that i didnt buy the 2 MP focused DLC but i understand why there making a push to try to compete in the MP arena. i have to say i really like playing RDR online where as GTA4....no thanks.

Once they added friendly free roam I have played that exclusively. While not perfect, the griefing is much better than in the other modes. I've only had a handful of times where people try to do annoying things like killing your horse. Maybe I have just been lucky.

I wish I was able to take more advantage of the x4 XP. I only got to 40 from 35 on my fifth legendary. Only 10 more to go for my zebra donkey...

I'm sure everyone knows, but there will be a new FREE DLC released this fall for RDD. I think it's all mp, but better something than nothing. Will include the old gunslinger as a playable character in mp.
I'd take advantage of this weekend if I didn't get my achievement for reaching level 50 during the 4th of July event.
What are the quickest things to do to level up faster? It's taken me a while to get to 38 and I'm a day one player.

google it, there's tons of videos and links showing examples of lvling up quickly in both free roam and multiplayer.

Havent played yet to confirm, but xbox support tweeted that there will be 3xp for rdr this weekend. I'd like to play this and finally finish levelling up, bug there's also gears 3 2xp and i'm only to level 6 in the uncharted 3 campaign which I wanna finish before cod comes out. Decisions, decisions.

Just did a little googling and found some nifty info about future 3xp events as listed below with start day:

Thursday, November 3 (Starting @ 4PM Eastern)
Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Event (including Undead Nightmare)

Friday, November 18 (Starting @ 4PM Eastern)
Red Dead Redemption & Undead Nightmare Event

Thursday, December 15 (Starting @ 5PM Eastern)
Red Dead Redemption & Undead Nightmare Event

This link is to the social club page detailing xp events and will probably be updated on the new year:

https://socialclub.rockstargames.co...-multiplayer-events-series-calendar-for-.html

Also, I just started using twitter (for giveaways and such mainly) so I think I'll follow rockstar for updates on surprise xp events. Anyways, now that we know there are more upcoming events soon, I'll skip this one and play in the next two.

im gonna jump on now to see if its really 3x xp today because that would be awesome. the bad news for me is these 3x xp events are on thursday nights...when i work! boooo!!!

The special live streaming events are console specific and are for a few hours either thurday or friday night depending on the event, but the 3xp is supposed to be for both consoles and last through the weekend to monday morning each time there is an event.

Hi just wanted to ask for advice on buying red dead redemption original vs. the game of the year edition. The original I can get for $12, or I can wait for the goty version to come down in price not in a hurry at all.
Thinking about re-purchasing, is the online still active?
Pretty active. Every free roam game I've joined on the 360 has had more than 10+ people in it. The PS3 online is pretty average. When I've joined PS3 free roams maybe 5-6 people in them.

Anyone else still playing this game?
Does anyone still play this and want to get some of the online achievements with me? Randoms are usually assholes, lol.
I'll join you this next weekend. Set up a trade with a member on here and he/she is shipping the game out Monday. I need the online achievements as well.

just got the goty edition. Had already played and beat the single player, never touched MP

Wouldnt mind giving it a go, if you see me on toss me an invite.

I randomly ran into some dudes from x360a and we ended up getting most of the achievements; however, I still have a few I need, including getting to Level 50, which will take forever. I'd be more than happy to help anyone out with some of the online achievements if they need it. Please send me a friend request/message. Here's the link to my GT since the thing on CAG hasn't been working right for a while: http://live.xbox.com/en-US/Profile?GamerTag=PrarieD0G

Just recently picked up the GOTY edition as well. Would love to join on some MP achievements with you guys, maybe some good CAG poker too :D
