Just thought I'd point out that GCs are typically 100x better when it comes to getting penny guides than EB/GS. Maybe it's because the people that work there are pretty cool and don't like the idea of throwing guides out. I don't know, but I do know that at multiple GC stores today the people were totally cool and let me look through boxes of guides they were going to trash.

I've compiled a list of everything since the last update which was - too long ago. Gonna pull out dupes and abc and blah blah blah to actually update the wiki and posts 2/3.
Question: Confirmed. now to organize.
Second question: The guides such as Rogue Galaxy at BB (which often have a price changing upc sticker), this is what I'm thinking on these. I'll list them in the wiki as any other penny drop guide. But as folks mention that a particular title often is restickered (either by shrinkwrap and sticker or just a new upc sticker slapped directly to the book), I can make note of that in post 3. Does this sound like a practical plan for y'all?
And you GameCrazy people are killing me. I am insanely jealous of the finds y'all score.

Actually, I thought I scored the guide for the WORST game of 2007, that being the Fantastic Four official movie game guide. Although, I will say that with it's moonlike physics, the Transformers movie game comes in pretty close to the bottom too.
I had a little convo with the local GC people tonight and they confirmed that they are told to do like GS does and 'destroy' the guides. I was even told they're no longer even allowed to take any home.
I must've spent a good 2 hours in their store, since they had about 3-5 boxes of PS1 titles not up in the Classic Plastic bin. Unfortunately, any good titles(they had a SINGLE copy of Threads Of Fate as well as one of Alundra 2)were snapped up by the employees working there, as usual.
However, I did get a 99 cent copy of WWF Royal Rumble for the Genesis, which was one of my favorite Genny wrestling titles back in the day.

It really is quite amazing how the penny guide shopping experience differs so much among different Gamestop/EBs. Some stores are glad to give away the guides or sell them to you for a penny. One employee even apologized to me for throwing out the last few Shining Force EXA's a few days ago. Then there are the hardass stores that block you at the register, even when they fail to do their jobs and pull them from the shelves. There really is no consistency at all from store to store.

They are of the 'rip the cover off, then give them to him in limited quantities' school around here. And well....none of those are worth squat, with or without a cover.

Oh I know, which is why I commented on that. Everyone else has long since eliminated it from their stock, except for TRU.
And, like I also said, if I had better luck here, I might try for at least a couple copies of the San Andreas guide, but last time here they limited me to one at the one store and ripped the covers off the guides at the other one. So, from that perspective, it's not worth my time or effort.

I tried, for once, at the TRU in Wilkes-Barre, PA, since they had a small stack of copies of the guides for GUN, The Warriors, True Crime: NYC, as well as lone copies of COD 2, LCS and San Andreas.
BTW, it's the Xbox/PC version that's pennied(or it might be both, since I saw both at this store months ago during the last drop.
I tried for a single GUN, Warriors and their only SA guide and the clerk called a manager over who did the 'we have to return them to the publisher' routine.
I felt like arguing a bit, so I pulled the 'but they're on the floor' thing. Still no go, so I left.
Getting guides isn't a snap anymore, unless you have either A) someone you know waiting on you, B) someone who doesn't give a shit or C) someone who thinks that it 'must just be on clearance'(or the other kind of person who doesn't give a shit).
Can't say I didn't try though.
BTW, it's the Xbox/PC version that's pennied(or it might be both, since I saw both at this store months ago during the last drop.
I tried for a single GUN, Warriors and their only SA guide and the clerk called a manager over who did the 'we have to return them to the publisher' routine.
I felt like arguing a bit, so I pulled the 'but they're on the floor' thing. Still no go, so I left.
Getting guides isn't a snap anymore, unless you have either A) someone you know waiting on you, B) someone who doesn't give a shit or C) someone who thinks that it 'must just be on clearance'(or the other kind of person who doesn't give a shit).
Can't say I didn't try though.

Or it could be that that posters local store is like the one FOnewear mentioned awhile ago, where they had JUST tossed out about 100-300 guides, some dating back to 1998 or so.
Sick part is, I had hit the mall that store was in and never thought to ask if they had any OLDER guides I could grab.

That sucks dude. I've gotten so sick of that letdown feeling that I've given up. Yeah, you don't get anything if you don't try, but standing in line, arguing with an employee, and still getting shut out just bums me out too much. I may start trying again in a few months once some of the "heat" from the article is off.

Wikis (and second post) have been updated up to and including BenBoxers TRU drop. (thanks, Ben!) I didn't need any sleep this week anyway.

LOL Well, truth be told, the one younger employee let me get out of the store with 65-70 guides about 2 drops ago from TRU, so I've had my extremely lucky streaks there.
But lately, it's been 'we can give you them, but we gotta rip the cover off' or 'we can't sell these at all'.
And, in my area, I think I'm not the only one, since someone who works at the one local BB told me some 'smelly guy' comes in looking for guides from the newest drops as soon as they open on the drop day.
Of course, the funniest drop that ever occured was when the Prima guides were $10 off retail early in the year I think. Having them ring up .00 and having at least one store here let me walk out with 4-6 of them for .00 was quite hilarious.
I'm blocked by the DM at most(if not all) of the local Gamestops, stopped by them yanking the guides too religiously at BB anymore and blocked by the manager types @ TRU if I get the typical 'I gotta call a manager about this' dumbass employees who actually give a shit about what they sell.

LOL ozzyman, I think there's a few here who are on both too though. I'm not sure if it's FW or SD, but I'm on one of them also. Though, I think I've only ever shamelessly stolen deals from them that I didn't find on here.
