To be honest, I use FW every once in a while too. It's just the "OMG gotta grab everything and put in on eBay" mentality that pisses me off. I mean, Whisky Tango Foxtrot, how much do they actually think they'll get by eBaying these guides?

Well, my original idea when I got into grabbing guides was to Ebay them, but I learned quickly that you have to plunk them up there as soon as you get them. I was trying to grab buttloads of them and then put a bunch up in bundles or something after I had bought up some 'inventory'.

Boy, was I wrong.....:whistle2:X

The only real reason to grab extras is for trade . . . I used to do tons of guide trades (about 2 years ago) but the movement toward the new consoles has changed things quite a bit.

I know my bunches and bunches of common guides aren't worth crap to anyone, even on Ebay, so they may get traded to the one local shop once they open their new location just down the road from me.

The RPG guides I have, on the other hand, ARE up for trade, but only if people have my WANTED guides.

And, if it's not on the list in my trade thread, I don't want the damned thing. I can't even count how many people have said 'I'll give you (the most common fuckin guide in the world) for your Tales Of Legendia and/or Disgaea 2 guides'.

I don't even respond to those people anymore.

You're a more than capable person, Rocko. Any reason you don't edit the wiki when it needs it? You're in this thread often enough to track the drops.

The penny wiki is not something I was ever looking to take over, it just sorta got left at my feet when 66 left us. I didn't have the time for it then, I really don't have the time for it now. Don't see any of my time being freed up in future, either. So if anyone's wanting this responsibility, please be my guest.

Unless of course, y'all just enjoy hearing yourselves complain about the time it takes me to getting around to updating the wiki. ;)
It doesn't seem to be open to public edits.

No dice at GS and TRU. Grabbed a copy of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and GRAW2 at BB, also had a copy of Shadowrun without a UPC over shrinkwrap, but the lady went and grabbed one with the sticker which rang full price, so I didn't get that one.

Well, unless I'm missing something in this thread, there's no mention of the Forza 2 guide dropping down to a penny on BB's website:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8380726&type=product&id=1179165374038

It's showing up as a penny right now, and not sold out like the other guides. I just placed an in-store pickup order for one, we'll see it goes through like the Shadowrun order I placed last month.

Halo 2 for Vista, Sims 2 Seasons and the C & C 3 guide for Windows are all down to $9.99 on the BB website as well.

Nope, this just happened this morning. I got an order in also. I've been watching the site for the past couple of days since the old guide drops showed up.

Thanks Shrike...I almost missed this. Hopefully I can get in too like Shadowrun.

UPDATE: Woot! Just got Pick-up confirmation!

I haven't had much luck with penny guide in my area. BB was really my only source and they've tried up.

For those that weren't able to get the GTA: SA guide from TRU, I have about five extra copies. I got these a long time ago at a local GS after they threw them away. This was before the store got a new manager who is anal about destroying guides and will never sell a penny guide.

In for one. Thanks. Also ordered Dark Crystal on DVD. I didn't want to do in-store pick-up just for a penny guide, and I never seen Dark Crystal. Hope it's good.

fucking BB. Forza 2 is showing OOS at all the local stores.

Edit: And at the one store it is showing up in stock at (the Newport News BB), it says it's OOS when I try to check out. fucking BB.

Some guides are gone from the site. The total number was in the 70's the last time I checked. I'm pretty sure New Super Mario Bros. is one, and I'm trying to figure out the others.

Gear of War LE?

UPDATE: Woot! Just got Pick-up confirmation!
As did I. :D
Is Viva Pinata still $9.99 at BB?
Supposedly, though it's gone from the BB site. Not sure if it pennied out or not. Might be worth a check for someone.
And, are there any $5 off guide coupons out there for BB?
According to Twen, there are ones in the October GamePro that are good until Sunday, though no one's posted a scan of them, as Twen doesn't have a scanner.

The old one supposedly still work, because the UPC's haven't changed in months, just the valid date on the coupon.
I had Viva Pinata checked last Sunday and it was $9.99.
Problem is that BB changes their guide pricing on Mondays, not Sunday.

The guides that were $9.99 on Sunday may be pennied out, and they're gone from the site, which makes me think they may have been pennied out.

These were the ones who dropped down to $9.99 a month ago that I'm aware of:
Pokemon Ranger:Road to diamond & pearl (8144821)
Elder Scrolls IV: Shimmering Isles (8313684)
Viva Pinata (8313728)
Super Paper Mario - Prima (8327385)

Picked up the following today at various BBs, all for 0.01

Forza Motorsport 2
Viva Pinata
Super Paper Mario (Prima)

Checked the following at various BBs. All rang up regular price.
Gears of War LE ($30)
Super Mario Bros
Mario Party 8 ($10)
You & Wii ($5)

All are going on my guide TL.

Thanks for checking. I know for a fact my BB had Viva Pinata and SPM Prima guides last time I was there. Damnit damnit.
Thanks for checking. I know for a fact my BB had Viva Pinata and SPM Prima guides last time I was there. Damnit damnit.
Ditto here. And now that they've been pennied out, calling them about it would be a bad idea, as it's an instant red flag.

So this is interesting, at least to me.

I went to a local BB and looked up the BB guides online at one of the kiosks they have on the floor. The instore BB website had Forza 2 listed at 19.99 and not 0.01.

When I got home, I checked online from my home computer and it was listed at 0.01.

I read about BB getting investigated I think in Vermont by the Better Business Bureau and I think the Sales & Trade Commission for running a seperate internal website that was being used for supposed bait and switch tactics. Apparently alot of customers had filed complaints about online prices not being reflected in store and that the local BB's in that area were going off their own internal website even when a customer brought in a print out of the price.

Take comfort in knowing that they lose money off that situation as well , as demonstrated in the Anime BB thread. Prices on instore kiosks are long-ago clearance prices, aka cheaper than online price. For example, one set is 31.99 instore and like $170(granted the $170 is waaaaaaay overpriced) online.

Thanks for the info. Also, I can confirm that Xenosaga 2 is indeed $0.01 at TRU.

Going tomorrow now.

Went to one of my BB's which usually pulls the new penny guides first thing in the morning, well I'm guessing no memo went out this time because they had copies of Viva Pinata, SPM and Forza 2 sitting on the racks marked at regular price. They all rang up 1 cent. Also found a GRAW 2 guide actually marked at a penny which I picked up as well.

Well, I have a copy or Forza 2 ready for store pickup. I suppose I'll look for SPM and Viva Pinata when I pick that up. Not sure when that'll be. I really want Viva, though.

Viva Pinata! Finally!!! Will swing by tomorrow on the way home from school (need new workout shorts anyway, works out good)
Scored Viva Pinata, but SPM rang up at $17.99.
Make sure SPM is the Prima version (with the red stripe at the top).

I went to Best Buy they had Super Paper Mario in stock I took the three copies they had to the register the guides rang up $0.01 but the employee made a big scene about the price and called the manager who overrided the price to $16.99. I was pissed but I did not say anything. I learned two things I will no longer take penny guides to male cashiers and I will only bring up one copy first to test the waters. I might go back again tomorrow just in case they put the guides back out and I can get a different cashier.

Unless you know the cashier, I wouldn't push your luck with multiple copies of one guide. Hell, I even know two cashiers at my BB who always let me get away with penny guides, and I'd still never try multiples at once. Better chance of getting denied, I'd think.

Isn't that illegal? If it's marked/ringing up for a penny, don't they either have to sell it for that price, or just flat-out refuse to sell it at all? I didn't think they could adjust the price back up to full price.:bomb:

A while back I took a copy of Splinter Cell DA and Pokemon Ranger to the register (already had multiple copies but figured what the hell). I went to a cashier I now try to avoid, who asked a higher-up. She said "Oh, yeah, well the computer just does that sometimes." and proceeded to adjust the price. Great reasoning.

Elder Scroll IV Shivering - 8313684

Forza 2 - 8380726

Viva - 8313728

Pokemon Ranger - 8144821

Super Papr Mario Prima - 8327385

Seeking 2 Vivas have extras of others to trade! ( I would do 3 for 2 Vivas just to save shipping 2x) ... I have a couple games I want to match with the guides...

and you might want to head there ASAP both stores I visited had them heading to the dumpster and let me recycle them...

Crap, I didn't know Shivering Isles was pennied out. Feh. I think my BB might've had one of those, though I can always try later in the week, which won't be until Saturday.

I did pick up my pennied copy of the Forza 2 guide from my BB.com order, though they had other pennied guides, ripe for the taking. I ended up with:

Forza 2 (x3)
Super Paper Mario (Prima) (x3)
Viva Pinata (x1)

The VP guide might be going to donut for one of his Shivering Isles guides, otherwise it's up for dibs, and I'm keeping one Forza 2 guide. The SPM guides and other Forza 2 guides are available.

Shrike, I may be able to give you a Shivering Isles guide for the Viva guide if your other deal falls through, but I'm not sure when I'll get to BB.
Shrike, I may be able to give you a Shivering Isles guide for the Viva guide if your other deal falls through, but I'm not sure when I'll get to BB.
That would work as a backup plan. I know I won't be able to run out to one until Saturday, as I have a baseball game tomorrow and a family dinner on Friday night.

I'm hittin BB and TRU tomorrow too so I'll see about getting you one as well if need be.

I had done it in the past without any problems all female cashiers though.

They gave me a similar story earlier today.

Earlier today the manager marked up the price to $16.99 after the ahole cashier made a stink about the guides being $0.01 he probably bought the guides after I left.:bomb:

Isnt that only in Michigan where they have some sort of price scanner law?

I'll have to swing by a few Best Buys in the morning before work. Since this seems like a stealth drop, I might actually have a decent chance of getting some good guides.
