Official Nintendo Power = Gamestop
Prima = Best Buy

About my problem... Maybe I should have asked to haul those guides away? Man I really should have asked for a manager. Kingdom Hearts II!! Gone in an instant.
I hope I'll have good luck with my EB visit....

you think its bad that they throw out unwanted guides? Iw walked in one day to an EB as they were taking out the trash - anf it was FILLED with GBA boxes; they kept the carts and ditched the boxes and manuals.

Visc they just changed all GBA games that were new are now used. Some stores kept the boxes. I'm going out tomorrow to a bunch of locations and going to try and get as many good deals as possible.

I already missed getting a complete Onimusha Tactics for under $5, but I did get a complete Legend of Zelda NES classic for under $10 :) Also got a Scurge Hive for under $5 :)

Something I noticed on the BB site. The following guides were listed at $10:

NCAA Football 08
Medal Of Honor Airborne
John Woo Presents Stranglehold
Halo 2 (PC)
The Sims 2 Seasons
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars

In addition, it seems like New Super Mario Bros. has gone missing...

I managed to hit a distant BB (on a drive) and found a few guides.

Anyone looking for a Gears of War or Viva Pinata?

I could use Sigma or Final Fantasy . . . maybe others.

I'm in the leave the thread alone camp.

Don't make it easy for lurkers.

Checking once or twice a day works just fine.

You need a new one eventually. Can't just let it sit for 5,000 posts. Now is as good as ever since we just got over a big drop.

"Don't make it easy for lurkers"? A 1,300 post thread stands out more than a brand new 50 post thread. Besides, this site is about deals and a community.

a new thread probably isn't a bad idea at this point. However, it really doesn't matter whether we do it now or after Christmas, since, if memory serves right, the time between now and Jan 1st usually provides no penny drops.

New Super Mario Bros has been off the site for a few months now. Also a likely candidates for the next drop.

Although I think Tomb Raider Legend was off the site for 6 months before it dropped.

Add me for a 'no new thread yet' vote as well. If I knew I wouldn't become power mad, I'd ask for power to be able to edit/delete posts that even vaguely sound like trade thread fodder, since I'm pretty sure there's a ton more we could delete to make this thread thinner than it is right now.

It probably isn't news (or very CAGish compared to penny guides) but while perusing the internet, I noticed Target.com has a lot of older guides. Most were a few dollars cheaper than their MSRP.

Actually, I think Buy.com, Amazon and other places also have older guides, many @ .01 or close and with their free shipping deals, you can get a stack of older guides compared with a few bucks off MSRP.

Just a heads up, though I don't really recall which sites I saw older guides @, but I believe the two I mentioned were a good place to start.

EDIT: While all may not be strategy guides for video games, here's the list, sorted low to high on price, starting @ .01 and with one for House Of The Dead 2 starting out the list:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st/102-2053905-6226514?keywords=video+game+strategy+guides&rs=1000&page=1&rh=n%3A1000%2Ck%3Avideo+game+strategy+guides&sort=price

And for Neocisco, who I know was looking for this guide for a while now, the guide for Yakuza, the guide can be shipped for about $6($8 in 'new' condition). While not a CAG price, it's definitely better than searching forever and not finding it:

Animal Crossing's still there buddy.

I was able to trade with another CAG for it. Thanks for the heads up, though.

No problem neo, I know that was one of your main wants for a while. It's too bad that Amazon only allows 12 items per page, cause with all the listings for guides that came up, you could be there for HOURS unless you just do a search under the Electronic and video games heading for the guide(s) you want.

Most of the prices are pretty reasonable and many are .01 to begin with or $4 shipped(plus tax if Amazon charges it for your state).

Those penny guides are from independent sellers; free shipping doesn't work on those. =(

I just noticed that. Sorry bout that, though $4 per guide is still better than running all over or waiting and hoping someone on CAG has one or more of those guides. Plus, there's quite a few that're OOP on there and hard to get otherwise.

I believe I saw the Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance II one on there the last time I checked there for less than MSRP.

Circuit City has the Assassin's Creed guide on sale for $9.99. For a guide to a game that's not even out yet, that's pretty good. I mean, it won't penny out until sometime next year so if you get the game at launch, this might be for you. Had it not been for the awesome looking LE though, I might have considered getting it.

Don't forget though, Chronis, Ninja Gaiden Sigma's guide already pennied @ BB, so anything is possible with guides pennying really. Although, the chances of anyone really getting many guides anymore is getting slimmer and slimmer lately.

Thanks Op! I'll get it with a pm for $9 at BB.
actually yes it has. at Best Buy. The Pokemon Pocket Pokedex. The SKU is: 7862903
Confirmed. This is indeed a penny at Best Buy. FYI, it's currently not on the master list.
Not discounted but still totally awesome.

Hehe you'll hate me but it was pennied at gamestop where a friend snagged me a copy :)

I also got one when it was pennied at GS. I eBayed it long ago. Now I'm feeling very sick looking at the Amazon price.

I saw one at retail price within the last few months at Books a Million. It was too far away for me to drive back, but maybe that'll help somebody looking for one.

And wouldn't it figure that by the time they dropped those @ GS, my local stores were barred from selling or giving away anything like that. I probably woulda snagged about 4-10 of them if I could've, since I figured that they would've been collectable.

Wow... I have one... just spent half an hour tracking it down in my room

Yeah there are only a few GS's around here that let people take penny guides from the floor and they don't even put guides out on the floor any more at all, except for Mario Galaxy and whatever else the big release is that week.

None of the local Game Crazys had it left and I didn't think Game Crazy would ever penny it so I paid retail after looking at the online prices >_

When did that Resident Evil one come out? or drop?

Which Pokemon Mystery Dungeons are pennied??
My TRU has the Nintendo and Prima and so does my Gamestop and non of them rang up a penny.

Someone tell Game Crazy to drop more guides. I was in there today and they have at least 15 I'd love to grab.

I went to two Best Buys today that I thought were picked clean and found two Gears of War (regular), The Darkness, two Pokemon Battle Revolutions (Prima) and two Final Fantasy II's. Wierd.

Yeah, the only GS that used to let me get away with taking massive amounts of guides out the door lost all of their 'cool' employees and switched to a bunch of company line people, so I'm seriously SOL at most stores here now.

They're the only store that has any noticable amount of guides on the floor really, since most keep that one piddily little rack in front of the registers and that's it.

You know what would be funny, would be contacting some eco organizations and telling them about how GS and other companies 'trash' the environment with bagloads of products that could've been donated instead of dumpstered.

It's a wasteful practice, but I guess they still figure it's better to junk them than let someone else take them and maybe make $$$ on them.
Probably where I found the Art of WOW book Chronis, at some out of the way GS store that had it stuffed up under the counter or in the backroom.
Since he said it was $30 to buy it - probably not a GS ;)

I had gotten 2 of those Archives books when they were pennied at GS. Kept one and ebayed the other pretty recently...only got like $15 for it, so it's not worth THAT much...
Just asking; no need to jump down my throat about it.
Man, if you think that's jumping down a person's throat, I'd hate to see if someone really got mad at you. He was just being funny. *Notes the "LOL" in his comment*

That's a pretty cool book, but pretty steep for $30 plus gas. But, who knows what it could sell for in the future.

I bought it at a Game Crazy--about the only place left to find one.

And I think the prices just recently spiked on it. There was another Coloradan that auctioned his RE Archives on eBay yesterday and it was at a lil under $50 shipped with a few hours left when I was looking.

I just wanted to grab one while I still could :)

Really, Where? Ebay? I have one on my shelf, and don't care much for the content. Looking to sell for good profit.
