Stop with this bullshit justification story already. Hoarders always say "well, they would pull them if I didn't get em." No. What if another CAG walked in 30 secs behind you? What if he got a guide too?

It sounds like in Saix's case, they insisted on him taking it. Good for him. He got some nice trade bait.

But not every store will pull the guides instantly as soon as you check out. Like there's a Code Black event and all hands on deck to pull guides as soon as you walk out the door.

I know for a fact that my "good" store doesn't pull guides after I leave. I've gone back a week later and seen the guides still there.

If you're gonna hoard, then hoard. But don't pretend like you're doing BB, the environment, or other CAGs a favor by hoarding them.
That's true. I saw some old guides from the Oct. list (Bioshock 2, PoP). I think it depends on the store. If the management keep seeing a whole bunch of people just coming in and taking 10-20 guides all at one time to the register, it gives out a red flag. This is why I buy something or just take only 2-3 guides at the register.

Wish I would have gotten up earlier today as now I don't have time to check the Best Buys in my area before work. :( I'm new to the penny guide thing so is there any chance some will be available tomorrow or is it usually one day and done?
But I'm saying, if they say to pull all of the guides after you buy 1-2 to be nice n leave some for others, then it sucks to see so much good product get trashed just because no one bought it all up at that price.

At least if they were a responsible corporation and did like Target does with junked out stuff and donate it to Goodwill it might not be so bad. Then again, the Goodwills around here are like the Salvation Army stores most times and charge MSRP for a lot of stuff.:whistle2:#
How often does Saix's experience occur? 1 in 1000? 1 in 10,000?

Unless they say "we're gonna pull these unless you buy em", you have no idea if they will sit on the shelf for 10 mins or 10 days. You're just using the "they'll pull them if I don't get em" excuse to hoard. Which is such bullshit. Like I said, if you're gonna hoard, then hoard. But don't act like it's anything else. Call a spade a spade.

It depends on the store. u should try, but the hard to find FF13 LE and SMG2 LE is going to be gone.
I dont mine hordering, but they should have like a CAG meeting and everyone should share. Come on, who needs MoH LE guides x6?????
The trade thread for guides is just that. People trade penny guides for other penny guides and don't ask for an arm and a leg unless it's a CE guide in which case they want 2-3 normal guides or another CE guide.

Pretty sparse in NE Ohio, struck out 3 times and got a couple of stragglers (MoH, Sly, Zelda) at one store, which pissed me off more because I didn;' know if I got beat there or they just missed them during the pull.

Then. went to a Target where the electronics dude tells me they have 5 Starcraft CE's somewhere, but sure as hell couldn't find them anywhere. Then I got BLIZZARD'D on :(

Any chance we can get a new trade thread? It seems to me only a handful of people update their trade lists so it's a little stale.

I've had them say just that though, usually after a manager got annoyed I came up with a bunch. I've also come up with 2 of each(one for myself of each, one for the TL or friends) and had the managers limit me to one of each before and then give the order to pull the rest.

And then I've had them let guides from the last drop(Singularity, et. al) just sit on the shelf since the prior drop. One by one they've disappeared from the shelves, whether it was another CAG or an employee who was bored and decided to check old memos n pulled the few there.

Either way my days of grabbing everything are over, UNLESS something were to happen like did to Saix. Then I'll grab everything. But now I just grab the LE/SE/CE ones and anything I want for my own collection and leave everything else.

Ask Pookymeister. It's his thread, though the 'one post per person' thing certainly hasn't been followed in a while in there. Apparently very few know you can click 'Go Advanced' and then hit DELETE to eliminate their old post when updating to a newer slot.

Sorry.....where is the trade guide forum???
For all of the San Jose area CAGs (well, mostly for j-fever since he's the only other local CAG I know about aside from Donut - nice to meet you!):

Mountain View - wiped out or pre-pulled. Got there 30 minutes after opening and there were no pennied guides on the racks.

Sunnyvale - was pretty much wiped out; I managed to find a DR2 CE that was hidden behind some other guides, but when I left the only ones left were a stack of Spirit Tracks, Super Scribblenauts x2, Goldeneye x2, and Tron x1.

Santana Row - probably pre-pulled; Santana Row is usually really good about that. No pennied guides.

I also have it on good authority from Donut that Curtner and Milpitas are either empty or there's nothing good left.

If there are any other locals that hit Blossom Hill or the other couple of BestBuys to the north (Palo Alto, etc.), let us know what happened. And if you happen to see Castlevania, FF XIII CE, or Resident Evil 5, please grab extras for me! :D
lol im in san jose too. thanks for the heads up as u saved me some trips, though ive never tried to get penny guides from bb before.

I always try to get two of each guide. One for the collection and one for trade bait. It's rare when I get more than two of any one guide. I learned my lesson with the stacks of FO3 and GOW2 LE that I have. I know there are other CAGs in my area so I always try to leave something behind. That being said, if there is a guide that is hard to find, I will pick up as many as possible (always leaving atleast one).

I think that some of the "hoarders" are new to penny guides and are caught up in the moment. I also know that others are just douchebags who only think of themselves and don't have a sense of community. Just my two cents.
Any chance we can get a new trade thread? It seems to me only a handful of people update their trade lists so it's a little stale.
I'll take a look into that.

In other news, I just cleared out some posts which were asking for guides. That belongs in the Trade thread. And a bunch of in-fighting about hoarding. Guys (I'm looking at you) learn to let arguments go. If you want to discuss in the discussion thread, that's fine.
Notice I said, "discuss." Not name call and get everyone agitated.
But some of you HAVE to learn to let some things be, or you're going to wind up on the ban-wagon as well.

Yeah, i was telling my gf today that I just don't get excited anymore for price drops. It's good to find some LE guides but I don't really need anything and I just like the LEs of games I like. (Like ME2, that was awesome.)

I've got a Nier guide from one of the BB drops. Am i ever gonna get to Nier? nope.

LE is the way to go. At least they have some collectibility value.

Actually one of the non CE guides that turned out to be collectible was Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga.

I passed up so many of those from the 'good' GS stores around here when they dropped and now I groan when I see it's value.:whistle2:#

Yeah I agree. I only got guides for games I own and actually wanted to have for my collection. I left Super Scribble, FF 4WOL, Sonic Colors, Spirit Tracks, Tron Evolution, Golden Eye, the new Pokemon guide drop, and a few others. Then when they told me to get em...I did. I think I left those cheat code books, I didn't even look to see what ones were on the shelf and match em to the list because they were 100% useless for me.

The following Bay Area, CA stores pulled everything:
San Carlos, East Palo Alto, Mountain View

One of my two in-store pickup orders went through (other was cancelled), and I was able to get SMG2 CE, Dead Rising 2 CE, MoH CE, Lost Planet 2.

In hindsight, I should have placed more in-store pickup orders, didn't realize how difficult it would be this round.

How did my post go deleted? Anyways ... my point is just like with meeting ragingstorm. We coulda gotten the rest but left them there still so others would get them. Actually if i recall right, I picked up a few guides from the last drop because he left 1 of each in SJ for me. It at least made the time and gas worth while. Given today being the first drop, it's ineveitable others would be following within the next hour.
Yeah, it was more difficult because some guy posted on SDs last night, talking a bunch of nonsense towards CAG and its members.

Anyway, thanks Lox. I got lucky today :D Really appreciate the info. Did you manage to find a Dead Rising 2 C.E.?

This was a crazy drop for me. Best Buy has been notoriously good at pulls for about a year now. I've never had luck at the closest store, but they had 4 guides in stock last night, so I did store pick-up.

Not only did I get my store pick-up, but they had damn near every other guide on the list, including most of the hardcovers, in multiples! It was nuts. They never have that many guides. I grabbed one of each and had no trouble whatsoever.

Hit another store for 3 more guides that I bought online, and they too had a bunch from the list, though not as many and very few multiples. Looked like someone had tried to hide the penny guides behind the others. I only grabbed a few, in addition to my pick-up.

This was my first experience using store pick-up for these. The stock locator trick is cool, but it was very inaccurate. At least it was inaccurate in my favor.

Thanks, lox and IATCG!

Lol, did your SMG2 CE pick-up occur at Mountain View? When I walked in, saw an employee bringing up that guide to the front desk area!

I'm still not sure whether or not in-store pickup orders contribute to the pulling of guides or not. Mountain View was pretty good about not pre-pulling the last drop, but this time they were on top of their game. Or it was hit by slickdealers. *shrug*

Grabbed a SMG2 LE guide, Sly collection, and DR2 LE guide. They had a bunch of the others ones like ghost of sparta and tron, but I only grabbed what I would actually use. I wanted spiderman but they didn't have it.

Thanks for the thread IATCG and for the info lox.
my best buy was very lenient (or at least the cashier was) so i went back again and got more. should've got more but the hoarder in me was gone?
Was that South Tampa you hit up? They always have large quantities of guides there.

One of the managers at another Best Buy was trying to get me to take some RE5's. I told him I didn't need it but he said they had so many to get rid of. Even had a sign out for penny guides.

Flat out denied at one of my nearby BBs. Some kid that looked like he was about 15 raced up to the cashier and said it was a "computer mistake" that they rang up for a penny. Then he grabbed the stack of guides and took them over to the customer service area.

I'm pretty sure it's the OP. But here you go. http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175548
There's 33 pages of trade posts and only the last 3 have been updated in the past month. It sucks to search for a guide and then realize the "Want" post hasn't been updated in 6 months and probably is no longer relevant.

I actually wish people would start selling guides at a reasonable price. It seems like if you got the recent guides, you got most of them so it's harder to trade. (At least for me.)

---

For those who ordered Site to Store, was DR2 CE always backordered?

Big letdown for me today, at least after the last BB drop. For Sac area CAGs, here's the bad news:

Elk Grove - nothing
Woodland (yes, I went there) - nothing
Folsom - nothing
Citrus Heights/Sunrise Mall - nothing
Arden - a few. I saw/bought Blood Stone, RE5, LP2 (left at least 1 of each). Got last of both cheat books because I was so frustrated at finding nothing all day, and randomly, the WoW Dungeon Companion Vol 3.

Maybe the stores here are just better at pulling, or keeping newer stuff out, I dunno. There's plenty of stuff I'd like to see drop like Borderlands GOTY, Fable 3 LE, etc, but we'll see. Bad day overall. Off to the trade thread to beg.

Oh, and my 4 in-store pickup orders? Not only did none of the stores I ordered from have any of those guides out, but I haven't gotten any emails saying my stuff is ready. Makes me wonder if someone went in first thing before the employees could even pull them for me and bought what they had.
Pooky wants to keep it as is.
No offense, but it needs some major cleanup. Same deal with the PS3 game buy/sell/trade master trade list.

There's no point in having an OP in a trade list thread that says 'one post per person' when people have 20 and no one goes through and cleans out the dupes like they said they would when they started it.

Like confoosious said, the thread is cluttered and most of those older posts are likely no longer relevant and/or people forgot they made them there.

But aside from PMing every person to post in the thread to ask if they would delete their duplicate posts and update to a newer one, what other course of action could be taken to help facilitate a cleanup?

Let me know if I can be of any assistance in helping to get those threads shaved down somehow and I'll do what I can.

Ya today was a great day to go hunting, no traffic at all. Hit my 3rd BB by 10:45, but nothing, all three everything had been pulled. Oh well. Here's to hoping some BB worker puts some back on the shelf.

Not when the site first updated, sometime around 2:30 - 3:00 am est it went to backordered. Everything on the site was showing in stock at around 2:10 a.m. except Mario Galaxy 2.

thanks. I must have just missed it.

Got most of what I wanted today - well, actually everything except for Castlevania. But I have a couple friends from out of town checking, so hopefully one of them will find it. My store actually puts .01 price stickers on the shelves for the guides. :p So there's no hassle AT ALL buying them.

Keeping that thread would be fine if it had been maintained in the slightest. I agree, it's ridiculously bloated and needs to be thoroughly cleaned up or just scrapped and start a fresh one.

But therein lies the rub. If a new one is created, how long before that one gets bloated as well? Unless folks know how to delete their old posts after making a new/updated one then it would be back to being cluttered within 6 months.

Had a surprisingly awesome experience at BB with guides today. Thanks IATCG and the terrific CAG (the username escapes me) who gave the info yesterday.

i got everything on the list right at 1001am. some guy saw me in the parking lot and asked if he could buy some off me and wanted all my le's for 1 cent each. i told him to suck it lol

Same with Star Ocean Second Evolution and Star Ocean Last Hope International. Finally got the latter for about $17, still can't find the first cheaper than $50.

Anyways, went to Mission Valley Best Buy in San Diego shortly after opening. They either pulled most of the guides, or someone was there before me. Only managed to get about 5. They had about half a dozen MoH:LEs left. Went to the Santee and La Mesa ones as well, they only had MoH:LEs.

IMTCG,

I'm not 100% sure about this but please add this to the op if verified. It might be a YMMV.

I went to a very good BB when it opened. And for some reason all the guides were pulled...usually the store manager is very cool and sometimes doesn't even charge me for the guides...but today the guide shelf was cleaned out.

Long story short, I spoke to the manager (very casually) and he told me that someone placed an in-store pickup so he cancelled the order and pulled the guides (just in case he/she came to the store and found the guides on the shelf and argues about why the instore pickup didn't work). I told him I understood his reasonings....but then he told me to wait a sec and he came back with a DR2 LE ,MoH LE,SMG2 LE, Front Mission, and Golden Eye. One each and all of them were free.

The manager told me that he doesn't like to selling the guides for a penny and he hate the in-store pickup because he has to fullfill the order if he has the guides on the shelf. He rather just hand out a few for free. Hence the cancellation.

Can anyone verify if the in-store pickup rising big Red flags/pulls at BB?

Thanks for reading.

PS-IMTCG...I'm going to pm this post to you just in case you miss this.

Which Best Buy was this? I think you're in my area and I was at a Best Buy this morning that usually leaves the guides out. I grabbed some guides weeks after drops and was shocked not to see them there this morning. I only wanted one or two of them. I was thinking something like this had happened when I heard people placing store pick-ups on them.

I'm pretty sure the DS DE was a truly limited special edition and as such wasn't produced for very long, hence why the guides are sought after and valuable.

Thanks for letting us know. I know Roseville did not have anything but AC2.

My BB has been good on pulling everything. And just when I was so used to their outstanding incompetence in every other measurable facet of that store.

If anyone has an SMG2 LE guide, I'm really looking for one. I don't have a TL at the moment but I am having a lowball hopefully soon. However, if you want to be totally awesome and ship it to me for cash, I'd appreciate it. Obviously I'd expect CAGness over FW/SDness around here, if you catch my drift.
