i think im gonna buy more tomorrow. i left quite a several left at the gardens BB but it was still the same and untouched.

im hoping they put the brawl guide back on the shelf. next time ill someone what they can do about the missing UPC.

Stopped at a BB tonight that looked cleaned out. Except for the large stack in the game aisle of Resident Evil 5's. Grabbed a couple and checked out...got carded at BB for the first time ever....for a guide. Good times.

FFXIII, MOH, AC:II all came up full price at my bestbuy, I'll have to go to another one tomorrow or something and check there.

Though I don't really trust the guy who checked the price though, and I dont remember whether or not they were the limited editions or not

If you checked the softcover versions of those, then they weren't supposed to be .01. No AC:B guides were pennied either, just II.

Well, I can tell you that FFXIII CE and MoH CE aren't $19.99 msrp, and I have a feeling you took AC:B up.

Def took AC:II up

The guy who checked the price gave me a wierd look though, and seemed like a bit of an asshole to top it off.

I did go to the bestbuy where I've had the worst experience though, it was closest to school so

I called my friend just now and he checked the other bestbuy and got them all for 1cent. Hes juts gonna give me a copy of all 3

Just came back from 3 local Best Buy in the NYC area. Two of them were all pulled but the last one had a bunch including the ones I wanted:

Final Fantasy XIII CE
Super Mario Galaxy 2 CE

I'm going back tomorrow to grab the rest.

checked another bestbuy today and they were pulled, also my online orders are in purgatory apparently since they are still processing with an estimated pickup of yesterday.
Alright. Apparently the one manager at the further BB from me knows me to see me and now they're cracking down super hard at that store.

I went in to check the store today. They had apparently pulled most stuff, but left behind a bunch of guides from one of the old drops. But I did find 2 Super Scribblenauts, 1 Zelda: Spirit Tracks and one opened Goldeneye guide from this drop.

So I asked the one employee from the media section if they would honor the price I saw on the website yesterday for them. He said they would. We go up to the register to ring them up and I guess this lady manager was barking in his ear to not complete the transaction till she got there.

So she says to me 'you know we're not supposed to sell these' but you try every time and it seems like you wait until I'm not here to try for them. But she said her guys know not to sell them or so she says. Apparently not too well cuz I still find them after the drop most times.

So then I found out the guy I was talking to was a media manager himself, so I joked with him that I guess I was going to have to wait till both of them weren't around to try for them next time.

He then talked about having them snap a pic of me before I left n banning me from the store.:whistle2:# Yeah. I guess I was THAT much of a jerk in times past.

But they both gave me assurances that I'm not banned, though I guess this store is off limits for guides anymore now too. I REALLY miss going to Syracuse(NY) area now, where the employees didn't bat an eye at ringing up 3-4 bags full of guides from 2-4 drops that they had languishing on the shelves for 6 months after the drops.

I just wish when BB said they're 'sending guides back to get credit' they actually were and not just junking them in the compactor. What a fuckin' waste.
What, did the manager at your local Gamestop get a new job at your local Best Buy? ;)

If we are gonna have 500 posts per drop and 500 posts between drops, maybe we shouldn't have a guide thread? Once one of us discovers the list of drops we can just start a new thread and kill it after a few days.

Oh stop with this nonsense. It's not about waste. It's about destroying the guides. Publishers want retailers to destroy the guides. This is usually done by removing the cover. (I believe they used to require you send back the covers as proof since it's easy to ship but not sure if Prima/Brady just trusts BB/GS.) This is to prevent people from taking "destroyed" books/guides and reselling them.

Junking them in the compacter or throwing them in the dumpster is just another way to "destroy" the guides. They don't expect people to dumpster dive.

Publishers don't want guides they give credit back on certain guides only to have them end up in second hand stores. (Gee I wonder if that's happened with anyone here.)

They're just doing what is necessary to recoup funds from the publishers. We, luckily, get to exploit a loophole in their inventory system.

frosty - we need the guide thread because we need the OP FAQs that people don't read. But seriously, we need the recent drops too because sometimes you stumble upon them at random stores.

I just talked to a manager and asked "There were some guides I was interested in getting last week that aren't here this week. I was really hoping to get them since I just got paid." The response was a big ole "Oh they were pulled to be sent back to the dealer." Ultra fail.

Well, they are following company policy. They throw it away because they get credit and could be a defect on product. They consider it stealing. Even the "free with purchase" could get a employee fired if they take it.

Is there a way to make the list 'static' so that it's not possible to copy/paste it? I know it would be more difficult (having to take a photo of the list, access via smart phone while out, etc), but seems that someone would have to put a lot of work (rather than the lazy hash job) that way. :). Probably not feasible, though, really.

I also support the idea of a Penny guide social group ... I actually enjoy reading the back-and-forth banter ... plus, maybe Frosty/Lox could post the 'early' list in the group only and then post the actual drop the day it does so? (an exclusive group maybe, with known posters/guiders)

They did the same thing (tearing covers off) with Barnes and Noble when I worked there several years ago during college. They would leave the Coverless books in the bins for employees to take if they wanted. I ended up with a lot of good books that way! :D

tl;dr:
Slickdeal cultists are poo-heads!
Penny guide social group = good idea

gamestopped his best buy.

My "go to" store either got hit by a fellow CAG/SD'er/FW'er or they actually pulled some stuff. That said if anyone still needs UFC 2010, they've got plenty.

I used to buy books from a local bookstore when I was in high school and they were all missing covers. I was like "wtf!" and then asked someone what the deal was.

Did B&N send the covers back or was it just credited on trust?

Back when I wa there, they sent them back, at least to certain publishers. I just remember 'free books!'.

I would actually be quite happy a lot of the times if Best Buy/Gamestop would tear the covers off and just let me use the maps/etc for some of the games I play! :) (blasted Crackdown 2) every time there's a drop, I decide I want to work retail at these stores, LOL (particularly GS with their free codes AND guides!)

While Penny-guiding today, it was the first time I noticed the 'used game' sections (with all that yellow plastic) and one employee was trying to get me to bring in all my used games for credit ... I told him I had plenty of used guides I could trade for credit as well, LOL (while holding a Super Scribblenauts guide) :D

My friend who use to work for a Borders told me that it depended on the publishers, sometimes they would need to send back the covers, and other times he said he had fun jumping on hardcovers and breaking the spines *cringes*

I like the "free with purchase". If GS would give you the penny guide with the purchase of the game (either used or new) I would definitely buy more games from them. Heck, I would almost have to become an edge member. I'm positive they would make more money/profit from the game sale than whatever Prima or Brady give them. More importantly from a business perspective, they would get a considerable increase in customer visits. And let's face it, how many times have you walked into a store to purchase one thing and walked out with 2 or 3?

If a brave GS manager were to try this for the next few drops I'm pretty sure their profit margin would go up. just a thought.

On my 4th and final store, I totally lucked out. I held out a softcover MOH guide to the guy and said 'Do you have the hardcover version of this guide?' "Sure", he says. Goes into the back room and gets me one. I wish I had asked for two.

It's not just about the money they get from Prima. If you knew you were gonna get a guide at a penny eventually (with game purchase), you have no incentive to buy either the game or the guide until it does penny out.

They don't want you to condition yourself to think this way. That's bad for business. Plus, publishers would go apeshit.

Hell, most of us won't even buy guides at $3 because of what we know about penny drops. They dont want that type of behavior.

I really like this idea. The extra posts, like this one, are just ridiculous. And as far as the old drops are concerned: You can copy and paste the previous drops, which are on the first page of this thread for all you newbies, and keep it on a word document or whatever program you use. Just add the new drops to this document and you will always have the list on your computer. Need it on the go? Just email it to yourself and don't erase it.

I'm a little tired of the "discussion is bad" and "must only post once a month" mentality.

The guides fucking dropped. If you read the OP, you have everything you need to know. And some of the people here report where they found a lot or no guides and that helps other people.

yeah, I understand in the middle of a dry spell when someone posts "any drops today?" that it's annoying because you might get an alert think there's a new batch. But once a drop happens, are we supposed to all just shut up about it?

I'm not talking about Target clearance. I'm talking about guides. If that's OT, then I don't even know what to do.

I dont even shop at Gamestop anymore. Bugs in cases and associates are not nice. Game guides are a waste because they cant give away and I know what the manager looks like in my area. He travels and work between 3-5 stores.

Tried to buy a couple Tron guides and AC2. The cashier called the manager and he said, "You aren't buying those for a penny, I can do $12 a piece." I said "No thanks" and walked away.

I picked up one of every copy except of the elusive FFXIII CE. Now I total about 200+ guides where about half wont sell, I can donate some of these to libraries around my area. Its still a book and Im sure the library would be very grateful, maybe giving u a tax receipt based on the retail value.

The only posts I think are useless are ones that go... I got x amount of guides with no information about whether a store has items in stock still or not.

Example:
The above post alone is a waste of a post, but if I add that all California Bay Area BB's have pre-pulled their guides... it is worth posting.

Ha! :applause:.....wait, now im doing it, lol

I'll contribute: Chapel Hill Mall store in Akron/Cuyahoga Falls, OH was a waste. The assholes there even cancelled my site to store orders like the tools they are.

Fairlawn, OH had 2x FF 4 Heroes of Light that I grabbed along with the 3 MoH LEs that I had waiting. Macedonia, OH already had all of them pulled, but a nice guy went to the back and grabbed me a super scribblenauts and sly collection when I showed my cancelled site to store order to them.

So now I know what stores in my area are nice about selling dropped guides. Today I hit up 2 BB and found guides from the last 2 drops still on the shelf. I grabbed what I didn't find at the stores yesterday. I found SMG CE and a couple others. I go up to the cashier and she has this look on her face that was priceless. The manager comes up to me and asks if I work for BB because only employees know about these guides. He then told me that he can't sell them to me because they get fined $1000 for each guide that isn't sent back. I just walked away and said no worries.

I go to the next store and grabbed another SMG CE & a DR 2 CE. The employee that pulls the guides was going to start the pull. He saw the books in my hand and says you can't buy SMG 2 CE or the other books. Takes them right out of my hand and puts them on his cart. I didn't make a scene cause penny guides aren't worth it. I never had an employee at a store take books right out of my hands.

If you go to a store that is good with drop guides just ask them if it's in the back. I got a DR 2 CE that way!

Actually it wasn't even the managers at my Gamestops that were the issue(well except for the one toolbag at the store their DM used as his main office), it was some higher up at corporate who decided to ban me from the stores. All because I did some trading they didn't agree with and I wasn't trading in $60 games for $15 in credit and not having bonus promos applied.:D

You know what amazes me is that my whole post for PS3 trade/sells got deleted for saying I wanted a particular part of a CE. 99.9% trade/sell PS3 and .1% none game and the whole thing gets deleted, but the admins can't delete any posts in here that aren't about where/when/what gets dropped.

I'm tired of skimming through everyone's personal stories of fail or success to find out if anyone in California knows any stores that are in stock.

On another note: Does anyone know any store in California or Washington that is in stock with dropped items so I can get my hands on some SMG2, DR2, FF13, and LOS guides.

Dems da breaks...mine was deleted as well, I didn't read the OP as I should have.

Luckily, I had another window open of the same and was able to copy and re-post my reply.

Do you know about every single employees at every electronic retail in your city? I bet you're recognized fairly well by all of them :p

Anyways, heading back to my best buy once again tomorrow to get more dup guides or any guides I missed. I hope I get the same employee again
