The Reduced Price Guide FAQ/OP has been moved to the SECOND post.

Actually I talked to quite a few of them in my travels, so yeah I know or have talked to many of them, even beginning to feel as if I had built a friendship with some of them.

But the overreaction on the managers part at the BB last night was really the final straw for me. I'm likely calling corporate today, since I didn't take kindly to being threatened with being banned from the store for trying to buy items their own people left on the shelves in the first place.

If that were accurate, then yes, it would be worth posting (not sure how anyone could know that, but anyway...).

Thanks to lox and whoever else contributed to the list/SKUs.

I wonder what finally prompted the pennying of the RE5 guide? By now, all my local BBs have just a handful of each guide, at most - but I've been rolling my eyes at stacks of RE5 for well over a year.

It's not like GS which there is 4 of in every town. There is about 1 BB per town between me and San Francisco and the 8 I checked were all pulled.

U should call. I got only two books and as i was leaving, lp stop me to look at the receipt. they then took a second look at my bag and receipt. he was shocked,. he said, how the hell did u get two items for $0.02? he then asked who ring me up. he then jumped on register to see if it really came up $0.01. he gave the bag back and let me go. This was the shady grove, md store. they are always not trying to price match even if u have the ad. what bad customer service
 
Normally I wouldn't call cuz I don't want corporate to get a heads up and maybe end up really cracking down and locking everyone out of this deal. But when they're getting on my ass for THEIR employees not doing their job right and talking to me like I'm a two year old, then I take issue and I want to file a complaint.
 
From all the use I've got from this thread, I figure I should contribute. I can confirm that the Taunton, MA Best Buy, which has never pulled guides before, pre-pulled before this drop. No luck at Dartmouth, MA either; looked like they pulled as well, since huge holes were now in the guide section.

A little OT, but this is about pricing matching headache...I got an EA Sports Active 2 at TRU for $20 and a co-worker asked if I could get her one....I had a GC at BB so I went to PM with the TRU receipt.

At the Customer Service, the cashier said he said that he had to get the manager's approval, but he didn't think it would get approved. I thought a receipt was better than a print ad, but he said it didn't matter if there was a big difference in price, the manager will not PM it with whatever reason he could find. A $40 difference.

So the manager comes over and looks at the receipt and asks:
1. Do you have an ad? I said I have the actual receipt from TRU.
2. TRU isn't a local competitor. I said I pm here before and TRU is less than 3 miles away and gave him the location.
3. When did you buy this at TRU? I said yesterday and the date is on the receipt.
4. We have call TRU and might sure it's in stock, I said no prob, they have a lot, but I wanted to use my GC here.
5. He starts to call them, then the customer behind me says "wait, BB doesn't PM when this guy comes in with a receipt? Are you f***** kidding me?"
6. The manager quickly hangs up and says "no we do PM" and overrides the register and walks away.

I thanked the gentleman and he says "that guy is an A******".

Final thought: A receipt is not any better than an ad.
 
Hit up three BBuys in the Tulsa, OK. The each had some of the pennied guides, but none rang up a penny. Oh well. Didn't see any Halo:ODST's anyway

I've had BB PM before using a web search of competitors' prices, such as Gamestop's website when they price dropped Kane & Lynch 2 and Front Mission Evolved to $19.99(which they've now jacked back up for some reason).

So PMing stuff to them IS YMMV, but not always. Funniest shit ever though was PMing a penny guide(God Of War II) from CC to BB using just a receipt, but I won't go into detail on that cuz most long time CAG's have heard that story A LOT.:lol:

did you see the screen when they scanned it, or just took there world, my sister got me a couple of guides from one of them and she got them for 1c.

Thank you for maintaining this thread the last couple of years IATCG. Please do not call corporate.
I would hate to see BB change their policy because of a customer service complaint.
It's hard enough getting penny guides these days, but some of us still do.
It must be frustrating you can't get penny guides because every
Best Buy and Gamestop knows who you are and denies you.
Perhaps it's time to retire from this thread and move on.
 
The fact that every gamestop and BB knows him is his own damn fault. Never draw attention to yourself.

That manager who PMed a receipt is a sucker. Receipts sometimes leave out words if the product description is too long. Or maybe the description is vague. If a receipt says "Sony PS3 Move Bundle" do they mean the starter kit or the console?

Nah. I'm not gonna retire from maintaining this thread just yet. But I know that at least part of the reason it was so tough this time was because of a pre-pull order.

There wasn't really anything I truly wanted or needed from this drop, so it wasn't a big deal when I didn't find anything, but the way I was treated IS a big deal to me.

Then again, I suppose BB and the like treat all of their known devil customers in the same manner, since we're not the ones buying $2k tv's with $100 HDMI cables and protection plans that none of us ever use.

The only thing I'd miss is their semi tolerable trade prices on games and the fact they have Amazon gift cards I could convert that credit over to more useful credit with. Otherwise Worst Buy can join Circuit City and Hollywood Video as far as I'm concerned.

It depends on the manager and if the Best Buy store is a crappy store or not.
I tried to price match Halo. They call gamestop and then said Oh, this must be a clearance item. We can't price match $150 to $60. FYI- A employee pull up the screen for price match stores and I notice that they do match PC Richard and some online stores. I didn't see Gamestop listed, but they listed as other.
 
I think next time everyone should not try to per order the guides online because it gives the stores a red flag. They are not to sell penny items because it's company policy. Remember how they crack down on the Best Buy coupon glitch? They may end the penny guides soon.....Only time will tell
 
I've price matched many times at my BB, they seem to be really cool about it. They've even PMed some Kmart deals for me (like when FFXIII was 59.99 msrp but it was 29.99 at Kmart) So yeah, it just varies from store to store.

You said "pre-pulled." That means pulled before the store opened. Unless you're there at opening to see that there aren't any on the shelf, I don't know how you know they were pre-pulled; maybe you just got there after other CAGs. Since most BB stores open at the same time, that would mean being in 8 places (spread across 50 miles or so) at the same time.

And if you've developed the ability to be in 8 places at once, then I think you can buy every guide at full price from now on without concern.

Totally, my closest Best buy PM's everything with just an add or even online as long as it's a local competitor. The one a few miles out doesn't PM period. "The manager does not price match at this store". Still haven't called corporate about that one...........maybe when I need a GC I'll do it.

Gamestop typically updates on thursdays though so it would be odd if it pennied out today. I will check with my gamestop source though in a bit and see.
 
I too would like to know. My local gamestop had tons of these stacked in there back room (at least 20 to 40) I would like to know to try and pick up 1 for myself and 1 or 2 to trade.

I can confirm it dropped, my local gamestop didn't have any though.

If anyone can grabbed a spare that would be cool.

Had no luck at BB. They pulled all of the ones from the recent drop. So I decided to go to Game Stop to find the Super Mario Galaxy 2 CE since it was drop last month and the guy there was really cool. He said that I could come by and get the ones that I wanted as long as I didn't go and blab to everyone and their mom about how I got a free guide book.

I got a Halo Reach LE from Gamestop today. Penny yay! Final Fantasty Four Heroes of Light pennied as well. But that's all I got. Don't know if anything else dropped.
 
Alright. I really am hating whoever is running that one flea market stand selling guides that have pennied at $1.99 each(even though that's still a fantastic price;)). They had a stack of 5-10 LOZ: ST LE's out today with a black line in marker over the BB sticker price. Luckily this is on the OUTSIDE of the shrinkwrap on the guides.

They also had STACKS of the two code books that dropped YESTERDAY from BB. Sent back to the publisher, my ass.

Anyway, I'll hold off on adding the newest GS drop till we get a possible verification and compiled list of what dropped. It'll be a lot easier to just edit the second/third post ONCE rather than adding stuff all willy nilly.
 
I love how you're angry at someone for having penny guides when you yourself wouldve prevented them from going back to the publisher if you could help it.

Yeah, I just had two very nice employees tell me it (HReach CE) pennied. The one guy told the other to go look in the back to see if they had one to give to me, but he came up empty. Still cool of them though.

It's a different story if it's some ordinary shmoe like me, but chances are this is a BB employee buying them all up to resell. Not that I've done any different.:cry: But that's about to change.....SOON. I gave the one female BB employee who used to hoard from both stores about 5 years ago her first negative on eBay for 'overcharging for shipping' since I recognized the eBay user name as an employee name from one of the local BB stores.:evil:
